The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Nicki stirred suddenly, awakening finally from what she called her "Overload Sleeps". They resembled comas but were not effective to her brain in a negative way...often she would awake and find her powers nice and laser like. Hopefully, since she was in a place where she could do some training she could keep them like that. God bless the Mansion...
As she opened her eyes she realized that she wasn't in fact in the Mansion...she was in a medical room she had never seen before. Where was she? For a moment, she became panicked.
Suddenly it all came back to her. She was in the Labs, with Kaz and Katrina and Vibe. The Mansion had been attacked and she was part of a Resistance to get them back. Nicki sighed heavily and looked up to the ceiling. She tried to remember what made her sleep. She thought it might have to do with Vibe. Because Vibe was so open with her thoughts, Nicki's power might have been stretched a little more than normal...it was a realistic possibility that it made her head cave.

One of the attendants saw Nicki stir in her bed as she was walking by. She called Nicki's attending doctor, who went to a nearby phone and called Kaz's desk. If he didn't pick up he'd call the cell phone.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kaz was going over the daily documents running his hand through his hair occasionally, "How does Hunter do this stuff constantly?" Then he remembered the man had hundreds of years of practice. He had been keeping himself busy with paperwork, daily workouts and training, not to mention the resistance, mostly to help keep his mind occupied so he didn't worry about Nicki. She'd been in what the doctors were saying was coma. They weren't sure when or if she'd come out of it, though they said they couldn't find anything 'wrong' with her or what caused it.
The phone began to ring, once, twice, he let it go, not feeling up to listening to who was on the other end. On the third ring, he picked up reluctantly. "Yes." He said flatly. The voice on the other end he instantly recognized as Nicki's attending doctor. "Mr. Corydon, Ms. Thomas has just woken up. All her vitals are fine, I thought you'd want to be informed as you're the closest to.." The line went dead as Kaz hung up, already on his way to the Medical wing.
He was through the doors and in Nicki's room before anyone had time to say a word to him. The first thing he did was give her a big hug, it didn't occur to him that he might be hugging too hard or not, as he was glad she had woken up.
Nicki had just starting thinking about Kaz and if he was alright when the man with the silver locks ran into the room and attached himself to her. Nicki chuckled slightly, nuzzling her cheek against Kaz's. "Hey there little boy..." she smiled happily, kissing his cheek.
Kaz looked slightly different than she remembered. Nothing major...maybe he had gotten his hair trimmed or maybe he had lost a little weight, just something minuscule enough to be proof that time had passed since she had been out. Nicki sighed, taking Kaz's hand.
Kaz detached himself from Nicki as he sat on the bed, letting the girl breath freely, though not before stealing a kiss or three. He rubbed his thumb over her hand, "Yeah, a bit over a week actually." Kaz had cut his hair short and spiky, "I was starting to get worried." In truth he had been worried the entire time. "The docs didn't know what happened, they said you were in coma, though all your vitals were fine. Didn't know when or if you'd wake up." It was clear from his voice he wasn't happy with that information.
Nicki smiled as Kaz stole a couple kisses, happily settling back into her pillow. She had been out for a week? That was standard for her Overload Sleeps but she could understand how it would scare most people...especially someone like Kaz, who was worried about her when she was crossing the street.
"A week huh?" she sighed, playing with Kaz's shorter hair. "That's a little much. And Kaz, I know you were worried the whole time but I'm sure you thought about the fact that it might have been an Overload Sleep right? I told you about those." Nicki smiled, stroking Kaz's hand lightly.
"How are you?" she asked. "And everyone else? Katrina? Did Vibe get hurt or anything? What happened when I went into this Sleep anyway?"
Kaz listened to Nicki, enjoying the sound of her voice, to the point he nearly missed the Overload Sleep comment. Nodding, "Yeah, kinda." He hit himself mentally, realizing that might have sounded like he didn't care or that it didn't matter. "I mean, you did tell me, and it did cross my mind, but....I don't think I was being rational the whole time." He gave her a sheepish smile. "When I found out you were here, I was asking the doctors tons of questions, not sure if half of them made sense now that I think about it. I was just worried about'cha."
"I'm a bit stressed. I don't know if this 'In charge' thing is for me. A lot of work for a guy like me." He chuckled lightly. "Vibes doing as well as she can be, considering." He trailed off a bit, as his mind went back to the resistance, the camps, and the work. "Kat helped with the group training we did. If I'm remembering correctly, she's helped Hunter and Iris a few times as well with what they're doing....though I'm not sure how I feel about that whole thing." All he could do was shrug.
Nicki shook her head. "Kaz, stop beating yourself up over everything," she smiled, lifting his hand to her lips and kissing it gently. "I know that you care, I know that you remember what I told you and I know that you care about what happens to me." Nicki shook her head again before leaning back in her bed. "I just wanted to remind you sweetie."
"Hey, you are a great leader and I know that you can step up and be whatever it is you are needed to be. You're amaziing," Nicki smiled but quickly shifted in thought. "What's bothersome about Iris and Hunter and Kat hanging out? Outside of the fact that I still think Hunter's a little...untrustworthy..." Nicki shrugged.
Kaz smiled and shook his head at himself. It was hard to be depressed when he was around Nicki. Especially when she was feeding his pride and ego. Then came her comment about Hunter, Iris and Kat. Sighing heavily. "They're dealing with the Church of Humanity. If they're going to spend time with her and such, I wish they wouldn't involve her if they're dealing with the church." Kaz didn't think he needed to get into it more, the CoH was well known, and so was their outlook on mutants. He figured it spoke for itself.
Nicki sighed, nodding slightly. Yeah, she understood exactly why it would bother Kaz that Katrina was working that closely to the CoH. It was a hostile environment to say the least. "Have you brought up the fact that you don't like Katrina around those zealots?" Nicki asked. She didn't like the idea of the little one being so close to that kind of crazy. "Or have you told Kat? Cause I'm pretty sure she would listen to you..." Nicki smiled as her own words triggered her memory. "What with her being completely in love with you and all."
Kaz shook his head, "No I haven't said anything to Hunter yet. I understand what he's trying to accomplish. Contacting him about this could jeopardize what they're doing, not to mention possibly put them in un-needed danger." It seemed to Kaz that it was sort of a no-win situation. Kaz couldn't help but laugh a bit when Nicki commented about Kat loving him. "Well, if she is, I highly doubt it's in any way romantic." He shook his head again, "I haven't said anything to her about it. She's had a lot to deal with already, I'd rather not put more on her plate to deal with." He sighed, "Besides, now that things have gone as they have, what sort of suspicions would arise if she didn't meet with Hunter and Iris when planned? How might that complicate things?" Chuckling sarcastically to himself, <A rock and a hard place...>.
Nicki smiled. She loved hearing Kaz talk himself into a corner. She smiled and sat up straightly, moving in and kissing him gently. She pulled back, sitting up but still lounging. "It's okay. I understand that you don't like it and to tell you the truth, I don't like it either but like you said, rock and a hard place." Nicki smiled, shrugging slightly.
"How's everything? You been fighting?" Nicki asked as she leaned in a little closer, stroking his cheek. "You look a little spent..."
Her hand on his cheek was calming to his soul. Shaking his head slightly, but not enough to move Nicki's hand from his face. "No. Not really. Calley had asked me to give him a basic fighting lesson." As he mentioned that he remembered when he had shifted, he had grown a tail, which hadn't happened since then when he shifted. "Beyond the obvious," He chuckled as he realized there were probably a lot of obvious things, "Just drained and...I guess you could say I'm feeling...restless? But at the same time not..." Kaz shrugged.
"I'm probably just anxious to be done with this crap. The damned law, the camps, the robots, all of it." That wasn't the case, even though Kaz didn't know it. Something was off and he knew it, he felt it within him. As if something was wrong, or not wrong. Kaz didn't really think about these things, he acted more on instinct and impulse. "When all this stuff's over, what do ya want to do? The first thing that pops into your head."
Nicki watched the man she loved move. His actions were subtle, almost un-Kaz like. His hair was short again, his very air becoming more of a man than a boy. Kaz had always been older than Nicki but for one of the first times she was looking at him as a man, a word that Nicki usually reserved for people considerably her elder. Nicki smiled slightly. She could tell Kaz had something on his mind, but he didn't bring it up and Nicki was sick of poking into his head. It took all the mystery out of life.
"First thing huh?" Nicki smiled, deciding for a moment to take a page out of Kaz's book and truly tell him. "Well, I was gonna lie and say that I wanted to go back to the mansion and continue my training and move in with you but I'm gonna tell you the actual thing that popped into my head. I want you to come with me to my home town: meet my mother and my asshole father and brother. I want them to know who you are, what you are and everything that I love about you. I want them to know that if they don't like that you're a mutant they can shove it up their asses because what I want to do after that is make sure that you'll be in my life forever. I want to marry you Kaz."
