The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Katrina was running. She was feeling the wind in her face, her ponytail whipping back. She was loving the breeze. Ahead of her was a golden light. She was trying to reach it. Faster. Faster.
She heard gunshots and glass breaking. The raid all over again. Behind her there were dark clouds coming and beneath them, hundreds of mechanical monsters. They gnashed their teeth and their eyes glowed red in the descending darkness. She was running in slow motion.
The light was close. She could see two people there. Her parents. They were dancing. Her mother in a gold dress. Her father in a silver gray suit. She was almost there. She reached her hand toward them.
She was grabbed roughly from behind by two clawed and scaly hands. She looked up into a masked face that smiled wickedly down. The masked person was wearing an all black uniform with an angry red X across the front.
She opened her mouth to scream. No sound came out. She jerked away. She tripped. She fell. Her parents saw her fall. They kept dancing and smiling. She was falling down and down. She would fall forever.
Katrina woke with a start. The darkness in her room was unfamiliar and unfriendly. It was smothering. She clutched the bear Hunter had left for her, hugging it close and trying to calm her breathing. She tried to close her eyes and fall asleep again, but she couldn’t get the images out of her head; she couldn’t get the feelings of fear and abandonment out of her head.
After a few minutes she had calmed down, but was still restless. Maybe some milk would make her feel better. She didn’t like warm milk, but cold milk seemed to do the trick for her just as well. Katrina pulled on her bathrobe and walked out into the hallway. It was the middle of the night and no one was around. The lights had been dimmed from their normal glaring brightness and now it was more of a pleasant glow with enough light to get around. Katrina started walking toward the canteen, still holding the bear.
Kitra bolted upright blinking in confusion.....something felt wrong.....shaking her head in order to rid herself of being sleepy and in hopes of stopping all the thoughts about the meeting running through her head, she got up and slipped her feet into slippers and pulled on a long robe and walked out of her room......about five minutes later she caught sight of a small figure holding a teddy bear winding their way to the Canteen....."Katrina? Are you okay?
Katrina jumped a little at the sound of her name. Turning around, she saw that is was Kitra, the girl she had seen at breakfast and at the meeting. Kitra who had offered to give everyone tours and who had a sketchbook that she had brought to the meeting. "Oh, hi Kitra," she responded. "I'm okay. I was just, um, getting some milk."
Katrina didn't want to blurt out that she had nightmares because she was afraid it would make her seem like a little kid all over again, even though it would probably help her to get all of those images out in the open, in broad daylight where they would be less scary. It was hard work to seem grown up when she was several years younger than everyone else.
"Where you going to the canteen too?" Katrina hoped that she was. Company would be good. It was always better to have someone to talk to after having bad dreams, because people have a way of bringing you away from surreal and haunting visions and back into reality.
Kitra smiled, "Yes, I got woken up from a nightmare and decided that a snack and perhaps some milk might help." She grinned and held out her hand to Katrina, "I think food is better with company. How about you?"
“Food is definitely better with company,” Katrina answered, taking her hand. They continued to the canteen together.
Even grownups had nightmares it seemed. “I had a nightmare, too. Maybe it was because we had that meeting right before going to sleep,” she reasoned. She set her bear down at one of the tables on a chair and went to the refrigerator to look for milk. “What was your dream about?”
Kitra smiled, "Perhaps so. Mine was of my parents....." She trailed off unhappily and then smiled as she realized she had gone silient for a couple minutes...."I'm sorry Katrina my parents and I were never and on good terms." Kitra walked over to the fridge as well and grabbed a bottle of milk and a piece of chocolate cake. She walked back over to the table and grinned, "I know chocolate cake isn't the best snack in the world but the milk is good for me." She ate a couple bites and took a swig of her milk...."Katrina, what was your nightmare about?"
The milk here came in small individual bottles. That was probably a good idea with all the teenage boys wandering around; community milk cartons could never be trusted when there were boys around. Katrina eyed the chocolate cake as Kitra pulled it out of the fridge. That looked really good. And there was another piece. And her mother wasn’t around to tell her not to eat cake in the middle of the night. Katrina helped herself to a piece as well.
As she sat down next to Kitra, she tried to think of a way to explain her dream. “There was a lot of different things combined together in my dream. Part was about the raid, then those robots were chasing me, then I was attacked by an X-man, then I was falling. My parents were in my dream, too. They were dancing, but I couldn’t get to them.“
She paused, “I know that doesn’t make much sense, but dreams never really do.” She was glad that she had told Kitra about her dream, because already it seemed less real now.
"Ah." Kitra looked up and smiled as Katrina ate some of the excellent chocolate cake as well. "Dreams and nightmares are usually a warped reality....especially when everything happens at once. You've been through a lot in the past couple days." She sighed, "That meeting didn't help either is my geuss....it was rather stressful." Kitra put down her fork and ruffled Kat's hair. "Things will always work out in the end." She nabbed her fork again and finished up her chocolate cake and took a couple of swigs of milk again....."What do you like doing? Maybe we could do something to take our minds off our nightmares and make us tired enough not to dream when we do go back to sleep."
Kitra was good at this getting rid of nightmares thing. Katrina took mental notes while she polished off her cake. First, talk them out, second, eat cake, and third, distractions until falling asleep again.
“I like playing oboe and riding horses and shopping, but all those wouldn’t help us go to sleep.” Katrina thought for a moment while she put her dirty dishes in the sink. “Reading is a nice quiet activity. We could go to the library and see if there are any good stories to read. I was there earlier so I know how to find it again, I think.” Katrina was a big fan of fairytales herself. They always had an ending that seemed just right, even if it wasn't always happy. She liked the magic, too.
She smiled and got up and put her dirty dishes in the sink and was going to wash them before she was waved away by one of the workers....she turned to Katrina, "Alright let's go to the library." Kitra held out her hand once more and then she and Katrina navigated their way to the library through the huge maze that was Mondragon Labs.....only to get to the library to find a tiger!!? curled up in front of the couch....."What the!?"
Indeed, there was a tiger curled up in a loose ball, with his tail tip touching his nose and none of his paws showing. Indeed, he was in the cozy cleared area central to the bookshelves, where a few dignified antique-looking chairs and darkly polished mahogany tables formed a loose, comfortable circle on a warm oriental carpet. And yes, he was in front of a couch, using a neatly folded pile of clothes as his pillow.
Perhaps a little background was in order.
Calley never slept in human form, when he could avoid it—he was in the inconvenient habit of waking up in fun and exciting non-humans forms if he did. That was not something he wanted to deal with, with all three factions plus a few freelancers in the building. So he was planning to sleep in an animal form every night from here on out. Since his back story put him as a tiger shifter, the choice of forms wasn’t exactly hard. And it was really really comfy and furry and warm and familiar. What was a tiger, but a house cat large enough to live out the dream of hunting men for sport?
As to why he was sleeping in the library, well... to be honest, he usually slept in the infirmary, since he tended to be semi-conscious or in horrible pain when he had cause to sleep around here. He did not have a room. He did not want a room. To have a room in this building would be getting a little too comfortable. He didn’t particularly care to keep sleeping next to Doc Jimmy’s Happy Fun-Time Zone, though, so he’d upgraded himself to the library. A nice place, but clearly not one that he’d be living in forever. Thus: perfect. And Slate liked it, too.
"What the!?"
His left ear swiveled forward, and his right eyelid slid slowly up. His tail tip twitched and brushed against his fanned whiskers. Slowly, like a mountain unfurling, the large Bengal tiger raised to its feet. It padded soundlessly towards the two lovely young ladies that had so carelessly interrupted its slumber. It appraised them with baby blue eyes. Sleepily, it blinked twice, slowly.
Then it began to give a thunderous purr to match its size. It twined in a figure eight between them, still a little too asleep to realize that a tiger’s twining was much more likely to knock people over than a housecat’s twining.
They arrived at the library to find a tiger curled up amidst the furniture. At first Katrina was confused and a little nervous to find a tiger roaming free at Mondragon labs. She was too thoroughly awake for it to be a dream. Then she remembered her earlier visit to the library. She had spent time discussing mutations with a certain individual. If she was right, this tiger was the same individual she had met here earlier. “Calley, is that you?” she asked as he started purring loudly. He began to twine around them like an overgrown house cat and promptly knocked Katrina to the floor. “You’re too big to be doing that,” she said laughing. She reached up to scratch behind his ears.
And the overly big tiger starting purring and twining around them promply knocking them both over.....'Did Kat just call that tiger Calley.....he has serious explaining to do....later of course.' "Calley?!" She rubbed his back and laughed....."So you can turn into a tiger...That is seriously awesome."

Calley
((ooc: If I God-Modded your faces, do feel free to yell at me. ))
Calley had temporarily misplaced the knowledge that Kitra didn't know he was a mutant. Heh. Whoops. On the bright side, she seemed to be taking it quite well. He nodded his broad head at both Katrina and Kitra's questions of "Calley?", and then sat his large rear down, blissfully half-lidding his eyes as Katrina scratched at his chin and Kitra gave him a back rub. Oh, pettings. He loved pettings. Double-teamed pettings even more so. His purrer rumbled up to Maximum Thunder.
Kitra thought his power was awesome, did she? Heehee. The reward for that was, of course, a face wash. He balanced up on his hind legs and lightly set his large paws onto her shoulders, and proceeded to... taste chocolate cake? Oh yum! When Kitra was clean, he dropped back to all fours, and gave Katrina the same treatment. Yummm...
Tigers had very big tongues. Very big sand papery tongues. Katrina was sure that if there had been any crumbs on her face, they were most assuredly gone now. When Calley was done licking her face, she stood back up again, straightening out her bathrobe.
"We didn't come down here to take tiger baths. We came to find a story to read. Do you want to listen too?" she addressed the tiger-boy.
