The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Katrina was in math class. The teacher was droning on and on about dividing powers or something like that. He just kept talking and talking in one incredibly long unbroken sentence. I've already got powers, Katrina thought to herself as she looked out the window. She saw something out in the woods on the edge of the school yard. Was that a tiger?
The striped feline was indeed a tiger, and it was looking right at her. Somehow Katrina could tell it wanted her to come outside. It sat there next to the trees, swishing its tail impatiently. Katrina glanced back at the teacher. He was still writing on the chalkboard and not paying any attention to Katrina in the back row, so she silently stood up and opened the back door of the classroom.
It was a beautiful day outside, warm with a cool breeze and the trees were beginning to change colors. As she reached the edge of the school yard, the tiger turned and walked into the woods, checking over his shoulder to see if she was following. Katrina picked her way over roots and through piles of leaves. Where was he leading her?
Suddenly there was a loud noise like a gunshot, and the tiger sprang away. Katrina tripped over one of the roots and fell, tumbling into...
Kitra. Kitra had caught her. Katrina panicked and looked around. What was going on? There was the tiger from her dream, but now they were in a library. The tiger was climbing into the lap of the human hating red man. Abyss was his name, if it was the same person Kaz had mentioned. Kitra's hello confirmed this. Katrina scrambled to her feet, instinctively looking around for an escape route. She didn't trust this big red scary man, who knew what violence he was capable of after that speech at the meeting about making congress bleed?
Woah. Calley was used to getting picked up and carried, but not in tiger form. Cat, yes. Human, occasionally, and by the throat, generally. But tiger? This was a first. He was in shock for a small moment. And then he curled his paws up, and tried to help Abyss' case with Katrina by tucking in his paws close to his chest and making adorable tigger eyes down at the little girl.
Something occurred to Calley during this: Abyss was really, really strong. Really.
Kitra gently patted Kat's shoulder. "I wasn't meaning to be rude and I should have worded my question better. I meant to ask, why are you here so late? Were you not able to sleep as well?" She pulled Kat closer to her, Abyss was a frightning being. Especially to younger ones. 'What the heck?! Oh my, he's strong, really strong.' Abyss had picked up Calley in his arms, and Calley being Calley of course, had curled in them and was purring like a freight train. Also with the adorable kitty eyes.
Katrina shook her head to clear her senses. Her body told her it was still the middle of the night, but she had been up very late, so it could just as easily have been early morning. Katrina listened to Abyss laugh at them and their reactions to the rude awakening. It seemed a little cruel to laugh at people you had just frightened. Then again, what could she expect from someone who had been proposing violence to humans as revenge? His first impression on her hadn’t been favorable.
Everything he said seemed rude, from his sarcastic comment, ‘I can read you know’ to his mocking attitude. She glared at him a little. He obviously thought he was being funny, with his comment, ‘And I was trying to read at this very table when all this snoring and purring kept distracting me, so I slammed my book shut and here we are.’ Katrina didn’t think it was funny at all. He could have just gotten his book and gone somewhere else to read if it really bothered him that much. She wondered how Kazelf could be friends with this person. They seemed so incredibly different.
His semi apology, ‘I hadn’t meant to scare you little one,’ might have made her feel a little better about his manners if he hadn’t stood up right afterwards, distracting her from his words. He was big. The ‘little one’ hadn’t been a sarcastic comment her own youth, it was simply a size comparison. He was big and he was scary. Katrina tried to tell herself that she shouldn’t be scared; she was 12 after all. Somehow that didn’t change the fact that he towered over her in a very threatening way.
He was also holding Calley in his arms. Calley was a giant tiger and Abyss picked him up like he weighed no more than a sack of flour. Was he trying to show off his strength and seem even more impressive? Katrina was already impressed enough to be shaking slightly. His size and strength wouldn't be so bad if he hadn't been so perfectly willing to use them for violent ends against humans like her father, who happened to be part of congress.
Calley didn’t seem to mind being picked up, in fact, he seemed to trust the man completely. Calley was odd though, so Katrina wasn’t sure she should trust his judge of characters. Kitra seemed taken aback by Abyss’ strength as well. This was not reassuring, since Kitra was the one that was supposed to be protecting her.
‘Would you like your pet tiger back?’ It almost would have been funny if he wasn’t so violent, rude, and terrifyingly menacing. In her current state of mind, Katrina was half afraid that he would hurt Calley. She was afraid to say anything though, who knew what he would do next?
Calley twisted and turned, and finally succeeded in getting himself out of the chair Abyss had set him in. Chairs and tigers? Not a match made in heaven. Amusing, though.
He padded over to Katrina’s side, rubbing his head affectionately under Kitra’s hand on his way. He set himself up next to the young girl. He wasn’t quite sure what she was scared of—Abyss was one of the nicest funniest reddest mutants Calley had ever met—but maybe having a tiger on her side would help.
Kitra winced inwardly, 'He looks hurt by Kat's reaction, I can't blame her though. If I was her age I'd be a little freaked too.' Calley passed by her and as he did he rubbed his head under her hand so she skritched his head. "Kat, I'm sure Abyss doesn't mean any harm." She looked at Kat and winked, "He frightened me a bit too when I first met him. He won't hurt little ones either."
Katrina had somehow managed to find herself in another awkward situation of her own creation, once again the center of unwanted attention. She had obviously made him feel bad by being afraid of him. She had responded to him the same way most humans would have responded; fear for what is different. She felt no better than the humans who were locking up mutants because they were afraid of what they could do.
“I can leave if you wish,” Abyss had offered in a sad voice. Katrina avoided his gaze by looking at her feet. The big red man was just as tired and stressed and worried about the people in the camps as everyone else. Now he had to be worried about mot being welcome even by others who were in the resistance.
“I'm sorry, you don't have to leave because of me,” Katrina said in a small voice. She might not agree with his views, but she hadn't given him much of a chance and was feeing bad about it. “Maybe we could start over. I saw you at the meeting, but we haven't been introduced. I'm Katrina.” She walked forward a few steps and held out her hand to see if he wanted to shake. They were on the same side here, and although they didn't start out on the best foot, they could always start over.
Monkey tail… of awesomeness… swishing… like a long, ropey target. Clearly, Abyss was asking for a tiger to catch him by the tail. Calley, in a great show of self-restraint, sat down.
Katrina seemed to not be scared anymore, which was nice. Though Calley kind of envied the young girl for her Instant Grow-A-Spine. He really needed one of those…
swish
Okay, that tail was really asking for it. Calley’s own began to slowly traverse the floor, as he inched his chest lower to the ground.
How did Kitra know Abyss? Besides that whole alleyway thing, and he didn’t remember her making a stellar impression on the big red guy then. And did she really think Katrina was going to appreciate the ‘little ones’ line? Calley personally thought—
attack!
Abyss' tail never saw it coming. He could pounce a lot further in tiger form than as a house cat. Straight over Katrina’s head, in fact.
"Calley No!!" She covered her face in her hands as Calley leaped over Katrina's head and straight for Abyss' swishing tail.. 'Well at least Kat is trying to fix things up and so is Abyss. I soo don't want to look at what's gonna happen.'
Abyss' hand dwarfed Katrina's as he shook it. He was surprisingly gentle. He jokingly teased her about treading softly around her if she was sleeping. She smiled a little at that. She knew she wasn't the easiest person to be around when she first woke up.
“I am Abyss, sometime later if you want I can introduce you to my brothers,” he offered.
Katrina wondered if his brothers were all like him except in different colors. Instead she said, “Sure, I'd love to meet them. I'm an only child, so I've never had brothers or sisters around. Are they older or younger than you? Do you get along with them well?” Siblings were kind of fascinating to her. Not ever having had siblings, she was always curious to hear about other people's. She secretly thought it would be nice to have brothers and sisters.
“I assume the same thing that brought the rest of us here applies to you as well?” he asked next. He was treating her like an adult, which was nice. She still wasn't sure of what to think of him, but that was a point in his favor.
Katrina nodded, “I was going to go to school at the mansion, but it got attacked before I even went to any classes. I kind of wonder what happened to all the other students at the school though.”
The conversation had been relatively normally until Katrina heard Kitra yell, “Calley, no!” Before Katrina could react, there was a giant orange and white blur flying over her head. In the process of half turning toward Kitra's yell and trying to see what the orange blur was overhead, Katrina lost her balance and sat rather suddenly on the floor. Calley landed on the other side of her, apparently he was after Abyss' tail. For some reason this situation seemed hilarious. Katrina laughed. A boy who turned into a tiger just pounced on the tail of a big red mutant in the middle of a library. Hilarious, truly. Once she started laughing she couldn't stop. Just. Too. Funny.
Alert alert alert: target on the move. Target... attempting to deliver come-uppance! Well that wouldn’t do at all. As Abyss went after Calley’s tail, Calley (happily dragging Abyss’ tail in his mouth) circled after the big red mutant, and attempted to pounce his back. Claws retracted, of course. Purring engaged, of course of course. Errhm, except for when Abyss actually caught his tail. That produced a very startled “Murr!” amidst the rest of his self-pleased thundering.
Katrina’s laughter mixed very well with his own rumblings, he happened to think. And if Kitra kept up the face-covering, she was just asking for some of this to come her way.
Kitra kept her face covering and was shaking in mirth. "Oh, Calley you are funny." She was laughing so hard that tears were streaming down her face through her hands. "I think you truely are part cat Calley, human or tiger form." She took a deep breath and let her hands fall to her sides, then realized she could hardly see. She scrubbed her eyes with her fists and brought them down again only to have the world still be fuzzy.
The hilarity continued as Calley caught Abyss' tail in his mouth, then Abyss caught Calley's tail in much the same fashion. They chased each other around with no regard for the bookshelves and the furniture in what looked like a red and orange blur through Katrina's tears of laughter.

Calley
Calley finally end up on his back with all four paws raised in a loose defense. The purring really detracted from the defense. In any case, he’d just tussled with a giant red monkey-tailed Santa Claus. He was a happy kitty.
"So, are you guys gonna sleep in the library all night or are we eventually gonna head to the barracks. either is fine with me."
Calley rolled back to his stomach, and curled up into a warm ball with his head over his front paws and his tail tucked neatly under his nose. His answer: the library was cool by him.
Kitra had fallen over laughing. Those two were sooo funny. She got up slightly and crawled her way over to Calley. "I don't mind the library, what about you Kat and Abyss?" She really didn't care either way, she was having a lot of fun. Fun that she really hadn't had in awhile.
