Description of abilities: Telepathy, Felidae morph/telepathic animal communication Power Description: Acheron has the ability to alter his body to that of any animal within the Felidae family (and subsequent sub-families) just by seeing a video of it (or seeing it in person). However, he tends to get stuck in one form or another – particularly when he's upset. He has an affiliation with creatures and can understand what they're saying through the noises that they make. He also discovered that he can understand them telepathically. He can't yet communicate with animals or people telepathically – only verbally. Nor can he 'hear' human thoughts yet.
Cons (weaknesses) of abilities: Emotions play a part in Acheron's ability to shift. His shifts sometimes tend to take over, especially when he's upset. That is, if he shifts to a cat and gets upset or loses focus, the cat brain takes over a bit – he's conscious of it, but he can't control it. The animal brain is always lurking when in animal form. He cannot shift partial feline mixes (i.e. part lion part tiger, etc). Electricity has a negative effect on his powers, making them go haywire (more on that pending).d
Fighting style: Nothing specific. His past encounters have mainly been animals, and in those cases the animal brain/instincts take over.
History of your character: His name is Acheron Judas, born Andrew McKillan in a small town in Oklahoma. The first five years of Andrew's life was uneventful. He grew and developed like a normal child, walking at eight months and potty trained by twenty-nine. The emerald eyed boy's first word was 'dog.' It was unusual because his parents had never referred to the family pet as 'dog.' It had always been 'Jake.' The boy rarely spoke, and was labeled language-delayed by a psychologist.
When Andrew was in the first grade, his body made its first change. Unfortunately for him, he was in school at the time. It was recess and he made the change in the middle of the field, much to the horror of everyone else. His first form was that of a feral domestic cat, as his class had viewed a video on feral animals that morning. A very confused Andrew ran away from school, students and teachers alike chasing him and throwing things at him. He was injured from a sharp rock that was thrown, and took refuge beneath his house after finding he was unable to enter it. Some hours later, his body changed and he was able to get into his house, crying. He was curled up in bed when his parents returned home an hour later. His mother thought he was simply feeling ill.
However, half an hour later, a man came to his house. Andrew eavesdropped, and overheard the man speaking about how Andrew was an abomina- something. He didn't understand the words, but got the gist that he was somehow different from other kids. His parents and the man came into his room, and the man grabbed took him away. This upset Andrew greatly, and he changed into a form he had seen on television - that of a lynx, and escaped with the help of Jake.
Andrew spent the next three months wandering and learning to survive the hard way. Finally the form gave way to his human form. He yearned to learn more, and wandered into a town, where child services took him in and put him in a foster home. Being that he refused to talk, they gave him a name. What it was is not relevant. He was there for a grand total of four days. He bounced from town to town, attempting to settle in long enough to learn more. The amount of time in each place varied from a few days to a few weeks, and he'd figured out that hearing animals conversing wasn't normal. Then again, nothing about him was normal.
An article about him appeared in one "Weekly World News," featuring him as the Cat Boy. Andrew knew how to read, but he couldn't write very well. This was due to the fact that most of his time had been spent without opposing thumbs. When Andrew was approximately thirteen, he gave up trying to go to school, and instead spent his time observing both humans and animals, and watching TV through people's large picture panes.
A little over seven weeks before his seventeenth birthday, a mutant with precognitive skills recognized him for what he was and brought him to a safe haven. Two months later, Andrew found himself a new name. The Greek 'Acheron' because it meant river of sorrow. Judas was reference to Judas Kiss – and he definitely considered his parents to have betrayed him.
When Acheron was eighteen, he was nicknamed Scorn when he fell into a group of mutants who were – as he found out six months later, not the right crowd. They had captured – perhaps kidnapped would be the better word – the wife and teenage daughter of a minor influential senator. And his new found friends had wanted to execute the two in the most gruesome manner. Acheron had refused, going so far as to physically oppose his new crowd, which earned him the beating of his life – they'd left him for dead. He was avenged: he later found out that his now-former crowd was captured and executed. All but the leader. The women hadn't seen her, and apparently neither the wife nor the girl told the authorities about him.
It had confused him.
A week after the death of his old crowd, there was a similar incident. Only this one didn't involve the wrong crowd. Nor did it involve other mutants. Three human thugs armed with knives had cornered a young woman and her even younger daughter in an alley. Acheron had been sleeping there in the form of a domestic cat. Needless to say, the thugs were shocked out of their wits when Acheron chose to shift to the form of a great big tiger. No, he hadn't killed the thugs. Instead, he'd injured them enough that they couldn't go anywhere (but not badly enough that they would need serious hospitalization) before shifting to human briefly before shifting back to the domestic cat at the sound of a police siren. The woman and her daughter had stared at him and he knew they were going to turn him in as a mutant.
One of the thugs came to as the police arrived and when his brain unfogged, he babbled on about a giant tiger that had appeared behind the woman and attacked them. The woman had stared at Acheron, who sat watching the thug fighting the policeman's grip. She had surprised him then, that woman. Acheron had looked at her when she spoke; she didn't know what the thug was talking about. There weren't any tigers in the city. He was hallucinating, clearly on drugs. Why, they'd injured themselves on those sharp pieces of metal they carried. The police bought that and led the thugs away; the woman had said she would come by and give her statement after taking her daughter home.
She had thanked him then, for saving their lives, and told him that she didn't believe mutants were evil. The daughter had stroked his head, and he found that he'd quite enjoyed it. He purred contently as the woman left with her child.
The incident had given him hope. And a reason to work for the greater good.
Acheron spent the last fourteen months in the wilderness, observing what he'd come to think of as his 'wild kin.' He recently wandered from place to place from Montana… to New York.
Sample RP: Scorn jumped up as five of his group hustled into the hideout with a pair of struggling female figures.
"What the hell is this?" he demanded, though it was not his right to do so.
"What's it look like, Scorn baby?" drawled a sultry voice that belonged to a female expressing a hint of fluid felid movements, though she was not a felid mutant. It was what she had always reminded Scorn of. She grinned, showing off a predatory smile. "That," she pointed and hooked an arm around Scorn's neck, "is the wife and daughter of Senator Idiot." That wasn't his real name, but that's what Sheila always referred to the man as.
Scorn stiffened as the woman touched him. "What are they doing here?" The hair on the back of his neck was standing and his muscles twitched. He disliked being touched, but even more so, he didn't like the fact that these two women were here and that they were connected to someone who opposed mutant existence.
There was so much tension in the hideout as other mutants got up from wherever they were and began stalking toward the women, who had now been flung to the ground. Part of Scorn was angry. Women like these, married to anti-mutant humans and born into anti-mutant families, were the reason why Scorn lived a life of solitude.
Yet another part of him could almost smell the fear emanating from them. Maybe the woman hadn't known what kind of monster she married. The girl didn't ask to be brought into the world by anti-mutant parents. They could be entirely innocent in this game that the anti-mutant humans seemed to be playing.
But what if they weren't? If the woman knew exactly what she was marrying; if she herself came from an anti-mutant family? And the girl, she would be tainted by now, as old as she was. Daddy probably drummed it into her well. "Mutants need to be contained and under control at all times," is what he'd said during the last press conference that Scorn had seen.
Still, Scorn couldn't allow these two to be tortured and ripped to shreds. He stepped forward quickly and stood before the women.
"No." He stood there calmly, eyeing the thirteen mutants before him.
"What?" growled a voice to his left, "you dare oppose the desires of the group?"
The speaker was a large being, hunched and broad-shouldered, with one golden eye and one blood red. His teeth, canines in specific, were larger than the average human's, and he had a strip of bristly hair that usually laid flat against his body. They were, at the moment, standing straight out from his neck. He glared at Scorn, his canines gleaming in the dimming daylight.
Scorn met the sharp gaze of the man, "Yes."
Outraged cries broke out among the group and Scorn bared his human teeth at them. "You've kidnapped two women. Two women that play no part in the human-mutant war!" he cried above the din.
"You know not what you speak of!" snapped the hulking form. "She married an anti-mutie! She carried his baby and now his child is standing before you with anti-mutant thoughts running through her tainted mind! She, like her father, will strive only to eliminate us!"
"How do you know that?" Scorn challenged. "How do you know that she doesn't have an opposing view? How do you know she doesn't secretly have a mutant friend?"
"What would you know about friendship, SCORN?"
"What would you know of it, Bartemeus?" he countered, "you told me yourself you spent your entire lifetime fighting the humans. Have you ever tried to put yourself in their position? Many mutants are stronger than them; we can do things they only dream of; they don't understand us."
"They're xenophobes! Why should we have to live with them?! I say we kill the girl first and send a message to the senator!" The speaker spat on the ground in contempt.
"I can't allow you to do that," Scorn said.
"Scorn." The voice was soft, calm, and carried the weight of complete authority. It belonged to the leader of the group, who was female but whom they never saw. All they ever saw was her silhouette, as they did now. She stood on a platform on the far side of the room with a bright light behind her. All eyes were now on her, including Scorn's.
"Kill him."
The order was so callous. With glee in their eyes, the entire group turned on Scorn. To his surprising relief, however, the woman and girl escaped as he shifted forms…
