The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

She shot at look at him for being sassy with her. "Well you could have had you healed up properly enough. I didn't expect you to while on deaths doorstep."
What to tell people about the miraculous healing? Hmm. "Well... You could mention that you caved and finally went to see a doctor. There are a few in the city other than me who have the ability to heal. I know of one personally who works at a school here who can fix people up much quicker than I can." She paused, "I would have urged you to go there first had I thought that you actually would."
She let her head tilt back on the bed, snaked taking the opportunity to slither about as much as they could and take in the smells all around.
"It would probably be for the best if I drank something and had a bite to eat. Hospital food isn't the most nutritious believe it or not and this does take quite a bit out of me." She settled her free hand in her lap to try and get more comfortable.
"I heal a little quicker than most naturally, but I cannot heal wounds on myself the same way I can do for you, nor do I replenish my blood supply any quicker. I will be a little weak and shaky for a bit after."
Lifting her head again, she smiled at him tiredly.
"But, is it worth it if it means getting you back on your feet and healthy."
Zaid has the etiquette to look sheepish as she sassed him back. ”Ah, well, yesterday it was not so dire. Bruised ribs was one thing. I don’t know what I rolled over in my sleep, but it took my ribs from bad to worse.” it didn’t help he regularly slept like a starfish, legs flailing and often ending up on the wrong side of the bed. If he had so much as a leg twitch last night it could have damaged something.
”Okay, I’ll text him. And school? Jude mentioned someplace like that. His mom is there, and his brother. He told me I should meet them. Small world.” Zaid felt this mysterious school had a lot of mysterious he wanted to look into. Well, not immediately. This was already an adventure and a half for them both.
”Don’t worry, I’m a great cook. I will make you some soup and get you something to drink and patch you up like you helped me! I, owe you forever. Like forever forever.” he blushed a million times over. He was feeling preppier as the healing worked, but mortified still the same.
With his free hand, he pieces together a text to Jude obediently: ‘Heads up, kinda took a spill over a fence, busted rib. Everything fine now, had a doc fix me up good as new. Black eye also gone so thought worth mentioning. Friend is helping set up neighborhood patrol though so I shouldn’t get jumped again.’
Hmm. Looked fine. Enough to put concerns at ease he hoped while still gathering a little conversation and maybe sympathy.
The cogs in her brain were a little slow sometimes, but right now they snapped into motion quicker than flicking on a switch.
"ARE YOU DATING A X-MANS SON!?" She slapped a hand to her mouth too late. The words were already out there. She really shouldn't have been surprised, it's not like the X's didn't date or anything.. she had dated one herself, after all.
But this new kernel of information brought a whole new meaning to what it meant for Zaid to have just send that text message to Jude. He wasn't dealing with your average New Yorker as a boyfriend.
Other than who his mom was, she really didn't know a whole lot about the boy. She had only ever interacted with him in passing from what she could remember, due to living on the same property as him.
"I used to live there, a long time ago. It's a school that takes in mutants who are having a hard time working through their mutations. I have never met Jude myself more than in passing... but his mom is a wonderful woman."
She giggled and blushed at his determination to pay her back. "I appreciate that... really I do. Thank you, Zaid. How are you feeling currently?"
Stars, he felt his ears twitch in surprise but he managed not to jump. That would have been very painful considering their linked arms. He gave the most adorable head tilt and looked a little sheepish. ”Uhhh, I have spent a lot of time as a bit of a shut in. I don’t really know what an Xman is. it sounded a little super senshin to him. Were there costumes? That would be cool. It would make sense Jude didn’t follow in those steps though with his new line of work. Zaid didn’t bring that up, though.
”Yeah, his mom sounded really nice. I was born in Japan so we shared some similarities. I just never went toward that school or I guess was introduced to it because there isn’t much to learn about my mutation. It just, is.”
How was he feeling? ”Better. I no longer feel my ribs digging a tunnel through my lungs to the other side,”he noted happily. ”Are we safe to stop using your blood? I really feel bad about this.” the sooner he could get her refreshed from this, the better.
It was her turn to look sheepish. "Some of them do. I know one personally who refuses to wear anything else but spandex." Ah, Saph... what a ... gem.
"They aren't the only ones in the city who wear suits and dress up either. There are a number of other 'Heroes' who do their own thing." She occasionally saw them in line of work after all.
She glanced at her watch for the time. "With how sever your side injury has gotten, I would be more comfortable if we went a little longer at the very least. My blood works quick on most wounds, but since I cannot see exactly what is going on inside you it is best if we give it more time."
She fiddled with her smart watch, setting a timer to go off in 15 minutes.
"I will stop before I get too dizzy. With that amount of blood in your you should be fine healing up the rest of the way without is linked like this."
Lapsing into a short silence, she took time to look over his place once again.
"What did you mean when you said your first kiss tasted like bubbles?"
Spandex? Zaid got a mental image of Jude in sondes and his whole world imploded. Stars! That was some anime level nosebleed waiting to happen! He struggled to free his brain, red rushing full force across his cheeks. ”Ah, well, to each their own. That just sounds insanely hot-t——t.” Hit, and hot. Oh aces, why did she have to put that idea in his head?!
He was pretty sure the snakes sensed his distress. He wasn’t sure if the movement in the corner of his eye was them plotting his demise or there was comfort wishes involved. He got a grip and breathed. At least he COULD breathe now.
>>”I’ll stop before I get too dizzy.”
”I wish you wouldn’t push it that far. I can find my way to another doctor.you make me feel like I’m taking advantage of you letting you do so much for me. I’m pretty sure this is a debt I can never repay.” he sighed sadly. His ears flopped down with frustration.
Then, another question that cut into his dying ego. ”Bubbles? Oh...OH! A Uh, mutant cursed him to wash his mouth out with soap until he proved we were on a date, and then, we did. But, bubbles. There were bubbles.” not the anime adorable ones either. When you dream of your first kiss, always be sure to be specific. Bubbles are romantic unless they are coming from someone’s mouth.
Okay, it was still cute. He really wasn’t complaining. Kiss still happened after all.
An image of Saph in spandex flashed through her mind. Yes... he was attractive, but she wouldn't say that that the spandex added to it in any way. To each their own she supposed indeed.
She snorted a laugh at him in a very non-Andrea like fashion. "I would not consider it a debt. Blood replenishes itself with time and nutrition. I would bleed like this for any of my friends." She angled a little smile at him. "It puts my heart at ease knowing that with this you will be whole again, and I won't have to worry about you as much. I think you were making my hair fall out earlier today."
She attempted a glare. It made her head hurt, so she abandoned the idea.
"That... is a very interesting power." She had never met someone who could honest to goodness hex you. Terrifying.
"At least that first kiss will always be memorable, right? The best ones always are."
Good lord, was she qualified to be talking about romance? With all her failed dates under her belt and a failed marriage to boot.
Zaid wondered what about the outfit had not appealed to Andrea. Zaid has always found spandex terrifying. Everything was just, on display, and that’s what made him flush so much at the mental image. Imagining, your Frisch, with...everything on display. Nope, he could never ever see Jude doing that.
Although, Jude had almost taken off his own pants to verify he had a bunny tail. Maybe he didn’t have as much shame as Zaid did? Some people were more confident in what they showed.
Oh Stars. Abort ideas! Abort abort!
”with luck, I will witness very few people in such outfits. I am not superhero material and I generally stick to a much more quiet existence suitable for a bunny. And with luck, this would be the only time you would ever need to assist me like this. I’d much prefer our meetings over coffee and not blood transfusions.” Zaid sighed.
He blushed as she mentioned her hair falling out. ”Considering none of the wrigglies are missing, I’m assuming you mean the normal hair. Shedding snakes seems like it would be much more eventful. And I’m sorry, I didn’t want to worry you at all. But lesson learned, I roll a lot more in my sleep than I should.” Roll, twitch, burrow. He needed to cuddle things and lacked things to cuddle.
”It still felt nice. Uh, I just, I felt bad, jumping the gun. Trying to prove something. I shouldn’t have done it like that, to be fair. It was memorable, but a bit of it was for the wrong reasons.” he put his head back with a sigh.
”The girl wasn’t taking me seriously, I just wanted to prove I knew what I wanted, WHO I wanted. It was confidence in the wrong moment. I’m a walking disaster when it comes to relationships. I mean, this is already an awkward start. Not that I’ve had relationships before.”
Andrea chuckled. "Thankfully only one of them wear spandex that I know of. The rest have pretty neat costumes."
She shifted slightly as her watched went off, almost on cue as to what he was saying. "I hope so as well. If luck is on our side the extra neighborhood patrols will stare your assailants off, and you won't have anything to worry about anymore."
She sat herself up a little more and checked her life. Oof, dizzy wave upon moving. She would need to take it out soon. "How are you feeling now? Try sitting up for me?" She reached out her free hand to help him.
Listening to him describe the kiss and his date made her feel a little sad; she was willing to admit that to herself... but she tried not to let it shift into anything bitter. Young love was a spectacle to see flourish and grow.
"I have had a few... but even I am not very experienced. If I have learned anything though, it is be yourself and do what you feel is right." She paused, eyes rolling to the ceiling in thought before she sighed again.
"Then again it has been ages since I have dated anyone, so my advice might be old and outdated at this point."
Neat costumes? Zaid found himself smiling despite himself. ”I’m afraid the only costumes I wear myself are for comicon. Bunnies just don’t look tough in anything, really. Although the recent Guardians movie did have a fairly tough looking waster bunny. But that would require also having due. Which I don’t. Thankfully.”
He watched her getting a little more lightheaded. He was trying to be a good patient but it was difficult to let her do what she needed and not let his concern win over. She was a medical professional. He needed to execute a little trust sometimes. ”I’m feeling fine. Once you get this taken off I’ll get some food for you, okay? I really feel great now.” also, the needle in his arm made his skin prickle some.
Though she tried to hide it, he felt sad listening to her talk. Obviously, she had her share of experiences in a world that judged physical mutations more than it should. ”I think anyone would be lucky to date you. Although, I’m sure you would prefer that from someone who did not just tell you about his first boyfriend. But you’re kind, and wonderful. And really, quite pretty. If you ever wanted to try dating again, I’m sure you would make someone very happy.” he said it with all the genuine innocence he could emit.
”I think it’s easy to get preoccupied with what people think are supposed to be standards of attraction. I get picked on a lot because I have a, to be blunt, androgynous type of appearance. But you are right when you say you need to be yourself.”
She tried not to look too confused when he mentioned movies. She had no clue what he was talking about, and was still embarrassed in her gaps of knowledge. She really needed to work on that.
"Say... Zaid, we are... friends, right?" She stumbled over the word awkwardly. "Would... would you be open to helping me up updated on, well... movies and such?"
She flushed a little brown as she spoke, already working on getting the needles out of their arms and bandaids over the stab sites.
"I have recently been reminded over and over that my little cave of medical books and classical stories is outdated and obsolete, and it is embarrassing not knowing what movies or shows people are referencing." She didn't know what she was thinking... maybe a movie night or.. like a book club? Ugh! She was so bad at this!
The Greek flushed even deeper at his compliments. "Thank you.... it actually means a lot coming from you instead of someone else." She chuckled slightly and stroked one of the smaller black snakes as it curled free from her hair.
"I actually went on a date, or.. well.. I think it may have been a date, I kind of ran a man over and he felt so bad that he bought me coffee and we talked." She winced, "But we sat and talked for a while and it was... nice."
Her supplies were packed away and she let her hands clasp together in he lap again, still clad in her work scrubs with her name badge on.
"I dated someone before who I had grown a little attached too, but he just up and vanished on me one day. I think he may have gone back to Ireland without telling me and it made me feel like one of those, oh what are they called... um... a fling?"
Even though she was being open and more or less relaxed, she was still watching him with a laser focus for any signs that the healing process hadn't gone as far as it needed to.
But, at the very least his black eye had faded away to a barely noticeable shadow.
Zaid blinked with a look of bewilderment. ”You just gave me your own blood to save me. If we aren’t friends after that then you have some fabulously high standards on who you become attached to. Uh, I meant that as a compliment. Sorry, foot in mouth. It sounded better in my head.” there went the blush again. His ears were rosy with color.
“What I mean is, of course I’d love to help you learn more pop culture. I think of myself as quite the expert in nerdy things, after all. I can show you video games, we can watch movies. It’ll be fun!” he felt his tail thump once with a wiggle of encouragement, ears back to their normal happy vibrancy. Then he grew serious. He put on a more stern expression and caught her eyes.
”But if we do that, you need to make sure to still do what YOU enjoy. Reading classic novels isn’t bad. There was ways to embrace the old things you love and try new experiences at the same time too. Like, okay, Pride and Prejudice was a classic novel. But there are really good adaptations like Austenland and the BBC version. And Sherlock Holmes has a whole television series that became a fandom! Although, that may be because the actor was hot, but who is judging.” Whoops, sidetracked.
”Even comicons have a wide variety of fans. Some are there for movies they love, but just as many go to get autographs from their favorite authors.”
Feeling he made a good point, he waited for his bandaid and got to his feet. Moving to the kitchen he made sure not to watch, pretty sure she would swoop in to stop him if he acted recklessly. It took only a little time to have the ingredients fathered for an easy soup. ”Is cheddar potato okay? I have chicken flavored broth too if you prefer. It’ll only take a few minutes, you can sit on the couch there. And I have water or juice. Oh, or tea. Sorry, no coffee. I get a bit burnt out of that from work.”
He waited while she chose a soup and started preparing ingredients with skill. He was much more confident in a kitchen than he was with social interactions. An ear twitched as she mentioned running a man over, and his brain noted to NEVER take a drive with her. She must not be very good with cars. Maybe the snakes got in the way? ”Running someone over may not be the best start to a relationship... but you never know. I met Jude because his dog ate my hat? Sometimes, life has curve balls.”
She mentioned the man she was with disappearing and he became sad for her. ”If someone leaves without a goodbye, then I’m sorry, to me they aren’t worth your tears. I don’t have experience, but love shouldn’t be something you change your mind on. You deserve to be with someone who would cross oceans to be with you, not cross them and move away.”[/b]
They were both blushing. It was surely comical to outside eyes.
Andrea started her slow journey up off the floor in order to head over to the couch as instructed. "I would gladly spill blood for just about anyone, it's part of my, um...code, I guess." She pulled her phone out to scroll through some work emails for a moment as he puttered of to his kitchen.
"It is what I do to fulfill myself as a person. But, with you it is different. I like you for who you are. More than just another life to save. I do not tend to get so nervous when I am at work because I have learned how to detach myself from most situations. Your situation really did scare me though." She turned to smile at him from where she sat.
"Really?! You would?" Excitement rushed through her. He made sure to remind her to keep on with the things she loved as well though and she flushed accordingly with the reprimand. "That is a wonderfully valid point, and I will certainly keep it in mind."
She finally had someone to watch things with! She had always been a bit too shy to ask Elliot what with him being so busy all the time. Maybe she would have to remedy that as well?
"What? They made a while show about Sherlock Holms?!" She had read most of the stories religiously. This was exciting!
"I don't believe I have ever gone to a comic-con..." The name sounded foreign on her tongue. She did wonder if that would potentially be a place to run into Akshay though. He had created a comic after all!
"Oh, cheese and potato is fine. I am not picky." She watched him, "and tea is perfect! I generally only drink coffee on my too or from work, with a few exceptions."
Jude's dog had eaten his hat? What a way to meet! She giggled, probably the first time Zaid had heard that particular sound from her. "From how you talk about him, you two sound super sweet together."
Yes, she did agree with him on everything he said about her last relationship. It has been so short, and yet...
"Oh, he had the most lovely muscles, though..."
Her whole face was brown with her admission. She hid it in her hands.
"I do hope that, if something does come from this latest date, I can live up to your words. I get so easily flustered with... things of that nature. I too came from a very sheltered background before I moved here, so all of these social standards and mannerisms are things I still struggle with even today."
Gladly spilling blood for anyone...it sounded noble, even when Zaid wondered if he could be live up to such a creed. After experiencing the black eye and the broken rib, he felt there were people he might prefer seeing bleeding rather than saving. It made his ears do a dance of confusion, one up, one down, torn between anger and sadness. ”You have a good heart. Some people are easy to save. I think the challenge really comes when it’s those who don’t deserve mercy. I haven’t come to terms with my own emotions enough to know what I would do. For a friend, I would gladly help. But if someone harmed me, or someone I cared for, I think I would draw the line. Loyalty, protection, those are my own values. But that doesn’t invalidate any of your own.” he corrected.
The potatoes went in the microwave for a faster cook, and he started mixing cream and milk, waiting for the liquid to boil. When it was set, he reached for a remote and popped on the TV. ”They had it streaming on my Nestflick. I would lace yourself though. Each episode is over an hour long.” Zaid showed her the television series so she could see. He appreciated the details that went into this show immensely.
”I think the best thing about comicon in the open minded nature of lost people there. Even when they knew my ears weren’t part of my costume they loved it. We could dress you up as Elphaba from Wicked! And it would be amazing because you wouldn’t need to put on body paint like so many people. Although we could still style your hair a little for fun. Even snakes can use a beauty day from time to time I’m sure.”
He and Jude sounded sweet? Zaid’s face turned even redder. ”Things are way too early to tell. I mean, it sounded like he had a lot of girlfriends before. What if he realizes he doesn’t like guys as much? I mean, what if he thinks it was a mistake? Stars, have you ever run into someone and they are just, dazzling to you? And your dying to get closer but also feel far out of their league? I’m a bunny who works at a cafe. I have absolutely Zero to offer anyone at this point in life.
The pot started to froth and he quickly mixed in the cheese, turning off the burner and stirring it. He scooped the potatoes out of the mircrowave next to slice, putting a cup of water in for Andrea’s tea.
”I wouldn’t call my upbringing sheltered necessarily, but I came from another country, and Japan has different norms from here. Being lawsuits was turning into a normal thing, and I felt less pressure there to hide. Although I’ve always been a little antisocial so my people skills were always lacking. Maybe that’s why we found it easy to talk. Awkward people tend to feel each other’s pain.” he pulled the mug out, collected a variety of tea bags and brought them over so she could choose.
”When in doubt, I try things in small doses. I let myself talk to someone at a coffee shop, or on the bus. If it fails in a monumental way I hopefully never see them again and rethink my strategy. Comicons have speed dating too which may be fun for you. Fast questions, no commitment. If they want to give you a phone number they can but no one is obligated. I almost did that once, but, I like guys. It was a much smaller pool to fish in.” he laughed. [/b]
She smiled and nodded. "I agree, and there are certainly times when my own philosophies are tested. For me it is more about taking care of someone in that moment so that they may face the consequences of their actions later." Her eyes took on a slightly far away look for a moment as she mentally went somewhere else. "It is not my responsibility to judge other for the actions they have taken, it is the responsibility of the courts, and whatever higher power your believe in."
She blinked, and she was back. "In my line of work people who have just committed horrible crimes are brought into the hospital all the times. When I took my oath, it did not exclude them. I have to keep myself apart from what I am doing and my own personal beliefs in that moment, or I have no place calling myself a medical professional." She plopped her chin in one palm and sighed.
"It certainly doesn't make it any easier of course."
Zaid went on about the com-icon and the TV series he had mentioned. She turned to look at the TV while his references went right over her head. She took it that this character must had been green in skin tone then?
Had she ever run into anyone who was dazzling to her? She blushed deeply. "As weird as this sounds, there was a doctor at a hospital I used to run clinicals at a few years ago. He looked like someone had ripped him directly out of a dream. The brightest smile... Hair that did this little wave in the middle when he combed it back. His eyes were green and would crinkle around the edges when he smiled."
She let out a breathy little sigh as he came around with a cup and some tea bags. "He was so dreamy that any time he talked to me I'm sure I blushed from my head to my toes, and my legs went all wobbly." She chose her flavor, good ole fashion green, and set up he drink the rest of the way.
"But, I disagree with you again. I think your charm, kindness, and humor priceless things to offer, and the right person will cherish them completely."
He brought up speed dating and the i-just-ate-a-lemon expression returned. "Lord... I am bad enough at regular dates as it is. I do not know if I could handle embarrassing myself in front of a bunch of potential suitors!"
It did sound exciting in a way.. but also very very terrifying.
