Wears a practical pair of flats, or knee-high boots in colder weather. Rebecca wears very little in the way of color, preferring muted grays or blacks in her outfit, though usually balances them so as not to be monotone.
Uniform: N/A
Sleepwear: Wears a light pink nightgown.
Miscellaneous clothing: Wears glasses, specifically thin-framed spectacles with round lenses. She sometimes likes to wear scarves, lighter ones of more brightly-colored fabric in summer and warm fleecy ones in winter.
Character Personality: A naturally quick learner and analytical thinker, Rebecca is often pegged as arrogant and aloof. While she does take great pride in her achievements and skills, much of her perceived coldness is ironically a result of her desire to avoid boasting. She is quick to take charge in situations she is comfortable in, but deliberately restrains herself from getting overly involved when she feels she might overreach.
Rebecca is highly empathetic, and sensitive to the emotions of people and also animals. She owns a dog and a cat and loves to be around other animals. She enjoys various fields of science. and along with her zoology major has diverse interests in and knowledge of fields such as chemistry, physics, geology, and astronomy. Rebecca is inquisitive and likes to see and experience new things.
Generally level-headed, Rebecca is practical and grounded, though often more cautious than necessary. She tends to spend more time planning than she should and has a perfectionist streak that compels her to overthink. When faced with a problem she cannot solve, Rebecca becomes frustrated and hyperfixated on it, obsessing over the topic to the detriment of other issues, and also tends to snap at people who try to help or interrupt her.
Though ambitious, a part of her work ethic draws from a sense of responsibility; though not overly inflated, her self-confidence drives her to accomplish more than is sometimes reasonable, taking on obligations out of a misplaced belief that she must use her success to drive other things, even when it is impractical. It is thus sometimes hard for her to unwind from stress, and her tendency to become obsessive over a subject often leads to burnout.
Hobbies/ Interests: A passionate follower of intellectual fields, Rebecca is an avid reader of nonfiction and a consumer of documentaries in numerous fields, including physical sciences, social sciences, history, and speculative science-fiction. Her love of zoology is of course a preeminent part of her life, as well. She enjoys museums, aquariums, and other locations dedicated to the sciences. Fiction novels also pique her interest, usually either science-fiction or fantasy; she marks her favorites based on interesting worldbuilding rather than characters.
Because she struggles with stress, Rebecca has found that she benefits from activities that help divert her attention. She has been learning the art of knitting, finding that it helps distance her from whatever might be troubling her.
She is also a volunteer at a local animal shelter; though she likes being active in such things, she has reluctantly diminished her participation in human-based services, finding herself stressed and taxed for time and energy. Though she feels bad that people need help, she finds caring for pets in need helps her feel less stressed rather than the reverse, and is something she can apply her personal skills to best.
Job or part time job and description: Rebecca works as an animal behaviorist intern at the Bronx Zoo. She also intends to begin attending Cornell University upstate but is choosing to wait for some time to save up money first.
Fears/ phobias/concerns: Rebecca is a perfectionist and has a strong fear of failure. She holds herself to high standards and takes responsibility for the wellbeing of others, so when things go wrong she is hard on herself. She also fears death more consciously than most; her mother’s long battle with cancer has made her aware of her own mortality, and she worries that there is too much left for her in life to die prematurely.
Special talents: Rebecca is good with animals and has an affinity for almost all of them. She is an amateur violinist, and speaks Dutch natively, as well as fluent English and German, and has been learning basic Spanish.
Morality Good/ bad/ neutral/ other: Good. Rebecca is a lover of knowledge and discovery, but while she embodies curiosity, she also believes what humans collectively learn should be used altruistically, to improve the lives of themselves and others. She is highly empathetic and values the wellbeing of all living things, which is why she is a vegetarian. She has a protective nature and will often act in support of others even when she needn’t. She has a pragmatic side, and is aware that conflict is rarely black-and-white, but also firmly believes every problem has a best-case outcome for everyone involved.
Mutations Mutation description: N/A
Strengths: N/A
Weaknesses and Limitations: N/A
Physical Abilities General Physical Capabilities: Though reasonably healthy in all categories, Rebecca in no way excels at physical exertion. She has reasonable stamina and reflexes, but not a special degree.
Fighting Style: No fighting style. If necessary would probably attempt to escape using things in the environment to hinder any pursuers.
Fighting Style Pros/Cons: She’s not especially weak, and she’s clever enough to quickly find escape routes or use tricks, but in a direct fight she has no real strengths aside from taking a cheap shot.
History Of Your Character Rebecca is a 23-year old Dutch woman originally from Rotterdam, Netherlands. Rebecca grew up with her twin brother Peter and their parents Sophie and Thomas, and from a young age she showed great proficiency and enjoyment in scholastic pursuits. She learned to read before beginning primary education and performed well enough to skip a grade (though she opted not to so as to remain with her brother).
Rebecca's parents were somewhat pushy with her education, though when she entered university they let off a bit. Sophie was an American ex-pat, so Rebecca’s English has always been exceptional even in a country with a population that almost entirely have some English language skill. Rebecca’s father worked at a local library, furthering Rebecca’s love of literature from a young age.
A kind if somewhat yielding person, Rebecca was well-liked in school, involved in many extracurriculars, and was graduating salutatorian. College was very difficult, and she did not thrive at first, but adapted well enough to graduate on-schedule.
Rebecca's brother is also smart, with a degree in mechanical engineering, but he lacks the same natural talent as his sister and their relationship has become strained despite her efforts to stay close. This tension was furthered as their mother was diagnosed with breast cancer a couple of months after Rebecca arrived in New York. Although it was in early stage and seems to have been limited to one malignant tumor, Rebecca’s reluctance to immediately return home caused tremendous friction between herself and her brother.

And the way Rebecca's face burned red, her eyes wide and mouth ajar, she probably looked it too. Truthfully, she wished she had been struck physically instead. That would go away in time; the way Peter's words had so quickly burrowed into her chest, she instantly knew this was not a wound that would heal.
"How dare you." She spoke quietly, looking through and not at her seething brother. "How could you think that. How-"
Peter cut her off, almost physically lunging at her with his furious retort. "How dare I what? Tell the truth? I thought you were the smart one here!" She wanted to speak again, to call that absurdity as it was, as that accusation had always been, that she was somehow lording over him, but he kept going with the words still in her mouth. "What are you thinking here? Are you trying to say what you did wasn't wrong? Are you that blind?!"
Rebecca blinked, her lips trembling. "That's not, that's-" Not fair? Not true? She'd screwed up, plain and simple. She hadn't been where she needed to be, and it had hurt her. Her own damn mom was in the hospital, and she'd had the nerve, the audacity, to flake on visiting, and now she was in critical condition, some kind of reaction to the chemo. And now Rebecca stood in the lobby as Peter righteously bore down onto her.
"I'm sorry. I messed up." She spoke without stutter, somehow, though she felt herself shaking. Peter's face softened, not from disdain to calm, but simply to apathy, coldness in place of rage.
"Yeah, you did." He turned away and moved towards a chair, sitting and seemingly folding into a ball. Rebecca turned away and faced the door to the hallway. It only now occurred to her that, the entire time, they'd been code-switched. Rebecca had come in and, talking to Peter, had spoken Dutch.
Peter, though, had been speaking English; both bilingual, they didn't need to stick to one. This time, however, it struck Rebecca that Peter, speaking English, was using their mother's native language. And it was that realization, trivial as it was, that finally drove her tears to spill over.
