The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Those last two, I have heard of," he murmured with a smile. "I mean, I'm pretty well educated in terms of music, but even I can't know everything," he said with a faint chuckle.
And then she asked what he was thanking her for, and he unknowingly flushed a little pink at those words. "Well, this. The music, the playing..." his voice trailed off as he thought a moment. "For encouraging me, and convincing me that....well this, could be a good idea." He bit his lip, hoping it was enough to explain to her what he meant. Honestly, he didn't know any other way to say that as it stood, he was happy with her.
Lee grinned when he told her that he had at least heard of the Barenaked Ladies and Finger Eleven. ”Well, at least I don’t have to start from scratch with you,” Lee teased. ”Though, that would mean needing to spend more time sitting just listening to music. Never a bad thing.”
As Blaine told her that he was thanking her for the music and playing for him, she smiled. ”You’re welcome,” Lee started to say. But then Blaine was continuing, adding that he was thanking her for convincing him to give this a chance. She blushed slightly, just as he had when when he started talking. And she gave him a lopsided smile. ”Apparently, I did just as good a job convincing myself,” Lee said with a slight laugh. ”But you’re welcome. I am glad we decided to try this.”
"It really wouldn't be that bad, would it?" he teased back, still slightly unsure of what to do with himself at this point, so he just stayed exactly like he was. He nodded as she continued speaking, and her words made a lot of sense to him.
"We've walked similar paths, so...if nothing else, maybe we can at least help each other," he said softly after contemplating his words. "I'm glad we decided, too. Even if I don't really have a clue." he gave a nervous chuckle as he looked around the room. A part of him debated getting up to get a beer, but on the other hand, he didn't necessarily want to get up right now.
Lee shrugged slightly, which was a little awkward as her shoulder hit Blaine’s leg. ”Not bad, but it might get a little annoying if I play ten different bands and you haven’t heard of any of them,” Lee said, continuing to tease slightly. ”I might start wondering what I got myself into.”
But then Lee turned more serious as Blaine explained what he was thanking her for. Then Lee lay there looking up at him as she thought. ”I think we’ve already started helping each other,” Lee finally said softly. ”I didn’t think I’d even have this much again,” Lee continued, raising her hand to indicate the two of them sitting there, then smiled wider, happily. ”And you already look much more comfortable here with me than you did a week ago.”
"Nah...that's just a way to broaden my horizons," he stated simply. "And if we're being honest, do we really know what we're getting into, anyway?" he gave a small shrug, though he didn't really notice her shrug against his leg. He saw her shoulder move, but to him it wasn't very awkward; though he could imagine it was a little uncomfortable.
"What can I say? You made yourself easy to open up to, to connect with. That alone was a big help." He paused slightly. "I think the big thing is...you understand. I've never really had that before." He looked at her sincerely, then leaned back again, looking at the ceiling as he relaxed.
Blaine did have a point, that was one of the best ways to broaden one’s musical horizons. But when he asked if they really knew what they were getting themselves into, Lee laughed slightly. ”No, we probably don’t,” Lee said with another small shrug. ”I guess we’ll just have to figure that out as we go along, just like everything else.”
Then Blaine explained how she had made it easy for him to open up, and Lee smiled. Then nodded when he said that he had never had anyone understand him before. It was nice, and reassuring, comforting, to have someone really understand.
Seeing Blaine look up at the ceiling, relaxing, and Lee closed her own eyes as she lay there, using Blaine’s leg as a pillow. ”You know,” Lee said softly after a minute or two. ”I kind of wish I had less energy right now. This is so nice and relaxing, it’d be nice to actually be able to doze.”
He nodded. That seemed like an appropriate plan; feel it out, and just figure out what to do as they go. Really, given their respective abilities, that was really the only way to do things, wasn't it?
He froze when she mentioned dozing; he'd never really given that a whole lot of thought. "Maybe that's for the best," he murmured. "I mean, I don't know about sleeping in the same space yet. Given my gift, if I were to fall asleep right now, I'd likely forget you had your head on my lap. Even in a space like a bed...I have no idea what would be bound to happen there," he said lightly, closing his eyes and taking a deep breath. "I sleep in the middle of a king sized bed so I don't accidentally roll off," he admitted finally, eyes still closed. Maybe he was thinking too deeply into things, but now that it crossed his mind, it was something that worried him. What if they did share a bed, and he rolled over on her? Or had some sort of violent spasm in his sleep--does he even do that? So many what if's crossed his mind, but he didn't voice any of them as he sat there in silence, not realizing his body had tensed a little as he thought.
Lee felt Blaine tense when she mentioned sleeping, and she gave him a slightly sad smile even though he wasn't looking at her. ”I'm still good with baby steps,” Lee said softly. ”I just meant it because this feels nice and I'm feeling relaxed.”
Then she lay and listened to his concerns about the possibility of them ever sleeping close to each other. Listened and thought about it. Then she reached her hand up to Blaine's cheek as she started to speak softly. ”Blaine. Remember, I'm not as fragile as you think. My ex used to have some pretty bad nightmares, I got quite good at dodging flailing limbs in bed.”
He nodded, his body starting to relax little by little. "It is relaxing," he whispered. "I just...find myself worrying about these things. Other people take it for granted, but...I'm unable to." He saw her hand coming to his face out of the corner of his eye, and he leaned into it a little; even though he couldn't feel it, it did at least make him feel better.
"I know you're not. But..." he paused. "No offense, but I don't think your ex knocks people out for extra cash in his spare time. I mean...if there's one thing I've done since I was thirteen, it's learn how to hurt people. I have no way of knowing how violently I sleep, but I have told you I've woken up on the floor a few times." He looked over at her sadly, his eyes looking forlorn as he thought deeply.
”I know it's not something to take for granted,” Lee whispered. She knew it wasn't, not with how terrified she had been of the idea at one time.
But as Blaine started comparing himself to Tarin, despite the fact that he knew nothing about him, Lee just closed her eyes and bit her bottom lip. ”No he doesn't do that,” Lee replied, her eyes still closed. ”But his powers would get out of control sometimes. There's a damn good reason I was so comfortable when I was patching you up.”
Finally, Lee opened her eyes and looked up at Blaine again. This situation that Lee had found herself in so many times in the past was so serious, she was sure the seriousness was visibly in her eyes. ”I’d rather have to deal with a full strength punch from you than have to deal with that side of his powers of given the choice.”
He nodded as she spoke, he knew it was nothing to sneeze at, and he was glad she understood. But as she continued, he couldn't help but wonder what she had dealt with. Though he kept his curiosity in check, what she'd said was enough for him to realize that it had to be pretty damn bad.
He took a breath, seeing the seriousness in her eyes. "I don't doubt that you would, but...I don't know what I'd do with myself if that happened," he said. "Sure, maybe you can handle it, but...I'm not sure I could," he said softly, once again showing his vulnerability. She was good at that, and yet, it showed that he trusted her. He let his hand slide off of the couch to rest on her arm, and though it did nothing for him, he was hoping it would at least comfort her.
"I don't want to imagine what you've had to deal with, then," he murmured simply.
Blaine didn't question what she had said, but she could see the curiosity and confusion on his face. But he didn't ask. That was good, Lee honestly wasn't sure how much she'd be able to get into details.
”And if something like that happens, we'll work through it. The good thing about going through all that is I know exactly what I'm capable of. I also know that even if the bad things seem incredibly horrible, that doesn't mean they aren't worth risking to experience the good.”
He listened as she spoke again, keeping his hand on her arm. He was beginning to understand what this relationship thing was about; he guessed it went both ways. To enjoy the good about someone, you had to take the bad that came with it. And she was willing to take a punch from a trained fighter to do it. He couldn't help the smile that crept upon his face that time, nor did he even notice it.
He looked down at her again, from her to her guitar, then back to her face. He edged a little closer to her, careful of where she was exactly so as not to accidentally hurt her or bump her guitar.
"I guess you're right. You'd really want to go through all that for me?" he asked, a little bewildered at the idea. And yet, the fact that she would be willing to make that risk for him made him feel that much better.
Blaine was really taking in what she was saying, listening to everything she said. Lee knew that it was so much more intense than almost any other relationship, but with her and Tarin, and the problems posed by their powers, it had needed to be.
Then Lee felt Blaine shifting and when she realized that he was moving closer to her, Lee smiled. But when Blaine asked if she was really wanting to have that kind of risk to be with her, Lee just looked at him for a few moments.
With Tarin, Lee had decided just that after only a week. However, that had been a very different situation, with very different people (even if she had been one of them both times), and very different powers. But it was still the same question.
”It might be a little early to know, but I want to find out if it is worth the risk, worth going through all that.”
A little early to know. His smile faded as he took the words in, but it didn't drop completely because he realized she was taking a risk just to find out. He didn't think anyone would remotely do anything like that for him, but...here they were. He nodded as his smile slightly came back.
He looked over at his hand, letting it slide up her arm slowly before finding its way to her hand, clasping around it. "That makes sense," he murmured softly. Though his smile faded once again as he had another thought: What if I'm not worth it? What if it didn't work out? What would that do to him?
Shaking his head of these thoughts, he squeezed her hand a little tighter, though hopefully not too tight.
