The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Ranger picked up shredded book, Noel helped pick up shredded book, Dammit tried to shred Reveille’s ear. Reveille met fire with fire. Well, slobber with slobber. Ranger could hear the dogs tolling around and nipping at each other, but as long as they didn’t draw blood or break anything it was fine.
”A little.” Ranger said in answer to Noel. ”I picked it up at a bookstore in Berlin before a headin’... On assignment. This one an’ the next couple were all I had f’r fun f’r a couple months.” He dumped a few handfuls of shredded paper into the trash can. With as many things as Ranger had that were destroyed in on or between missions he had learned to let go of many of his possessions as they were destroyed.
Noel snapped at Dammit and Ranger looked to see that the puppy was poised to get herself some abandoned steak. Ranger shook his head and couldn’t help but smile. The dog was using the book mess to try and steal some steak.
”That little sh*t.” Ranger said as Noel made Dammit sit.
When they had the mess cleaned up, Ranger put the trash can back and scratched behind Reveille’s ears. She was a good dog who didn’t trash a paperback. ”Good girl.”
The book crisis tended to Ranger returned to the table where Noel sat feeding Dammit some of the fat off her steak.
"So. How was your day, honey?"
Ranger picked up his silverware and said, ”Busy. The rip openin’ has created a demand f’r security. Though I finally got caught up enough that I could leave early t’ work out. After just layin’ in the hospital f’r days I needed it.”
He ate a few bites before bringing up a previous conversation. The dogs were calm, for once, and he’d had a moment to process.”With diggin’ f’r information from Nolan, an’ y’r Haven mission… How bad’re y’ talkin’?” The fear that she would forget about him again was gnawing at the back of his mind.

It was good and bad that he was busy. Noel had just gotten back and sh wasn’t sure how to fit back in. Maybe she shouldn’t even bother since there were a few sticking points on the horizon...
Of course he wanted to know how bad was bad going to be? Noel gave up on mixing her veggies around the plate and just pushed it away. Bad enough that her usual unfillable pit of a stomach was churning. This was the real test. The fire that would temper or melt down this weird limbo of a relationship they had.
Dammit snuggled herself firmly against Noel’s legs by way of moral puppy support.
"I don't know for sure. It’s good that I know it’s happening. I can make some extra room and make sure my notes are up to date. I’ll try to preserve what I have, and at worst there's... I have notes about everything you know?" He knew. Once she'd let him snoop over her shoulder and he'd teased her in his good humored way about her comments on her favorite things about him. Just remembering had her turning pink and shifting to sneak a pet in to her puppy.

Fuegogrande
She didn’t know. She was taking steps to mitigate it though. Ranger hoped it would be enough. Noel had forgotten things in the past, normally small moments. Their entire first meeting had been forgotten already though. Granted that had followed a few years where she likely hadn’t done much to keep up with them. Which meant notes.
”Yeah.” Ranger said, setting his silverware down. He’d seen her notes. Once. The notes were quite exhaustive. Even with notes, if she was to lose all her memories of him wouldn’t it be like starting over for her? She would know academically they had become involved but would that be enough.
There was no option but to do it though. It had to be done and Noel was doing everything she could to prepare. Ranger reached across the table and gently took her hand that was not attempting to covertly pet Dammit. ”If there is anythin’ I can do, just let me know. I'm here f'r y'. Always.” He gave her hand a light squeeze.
Ranger was a man of action, a shooter. Someone that could be pointed in a direction and let loose. He was not used to having to sit and trust and hope. It was something he was adapting to running Blac-Tac, but it was still difficult. And for Noel it was likely to be the hardest. He wanted to be doing something, anything to help.

Was there anything he could do? Noel zeroed in on his hand over hers and realized that always sounded nice and all, but it wasn’t practical. She gave Dammit a good scritch and tried not to spill all of every insecurity she had about this whole thing.
Except. Wasn't that was being in a relationship was about?
"The thing with Nolan and the fact-finding mission with Natalie, these are the biggest potential upsets to my memory since I've been here. I mean, it's nice to be useful and get to do something, but it's not just one chance to come back broken. It's two. Almost back to back. So it's almost a guarantee that I'll mess up somewhere and I don't yet know where or why.”
That made it sound self-defeating. She wasn’t about to not fight for her memory.
"Be there when I give Nolan a once-over? I figured you might since I left him in your backyard. If you’re there before I rest and reset, that gives me a much higher chance for recovery.”
And that made it sound like an illness. Ugh. She hadn’t said “data recovery” because she hadn’t wanted to sound like a robot. Now she just sounded like an invalid. Noel pulled her hand back, but only so she could get up and scoot Michael and his chair back enough for her to climb into his personal space. For a long time, she’d convinced herself that touching people wasn’t important. Now she found it so much easier than words.
"Just let me borrow this for a minute.” She buried her face in his shoulder and it smelled like him and steak and dryer sheets. This moment, she tried to etch into her mind. She was vulnerable, but okay. Someone else had her back.
