She is very firmly on the Ragnorok side of the Ragnorok/X Men divide, even if she is unaware of the former's existence.
Mutations
Mutation description:
Rebecca can transform herself into what is best described as a dust devil, a moving sand dune. Her mass stays the same, but this allows her to fly as if propelled by a wind , go through small spaces, granting her excellent mobility while in this form.
When fully transformed, her body moves as if propelled by a conscious wind , individuals caught in the wind act as if a strong gust of wind (as though they are being pushed by her) is blowing them, a sensation which lasts for as long as her body is in the same vicinity as them. She “flies” at a speed as quick as her normal human form would while running in her sand form. She can fly as high as she can jump in human form.
Objects and humans in the vicinity of her “sand form” act in accordance with having dust or sand blown in them by a strong wind akin to being pushed by her. Objects such as guns could potentially jam as the sand effects them.
The most important aspect of her power is that while in “Sand form” she cannot be physically or mentally attacked (except as detailed below). She can take this form technically indefinitely , but there are still implications
She can shift between her human and sand form pretty quickly, it requires conscious effort, but it takes roughly 3 seconds for her to fully transform.
If scattered in some fashion whilst in sand form, she can use nearby sand to take on human form. This process takes 12 hours to complete.
The sand does not carry her human DNA, but is obviously anomalous if tested properly in a forensics lab.
While in Sand Form-she has good sense of what is around her , while she cannot “see” per se she has a sense of space , knowing where objects are through testing edges with her sand. She can also detect words through the tremors they make in the air. This allows her to “see” “hear” and “touch” as well as a normal human being. Weaknesses and Limitations:
If she is immersed in water, then she cannot switch between her two forms. She can only eat in her human form, and only sleep in her sand form so hence fears being immersed outside of her own control (for she does still need to bathe in her human form). Drinking water has no deleterious effect on her usually, but if she drinks too much or is water boarded, she'd be unable to transform just as if she was immersed.
She cannot speak in her sand form, rather it produces a howling sound akin to wind upon a dune.
Being in sand form does not reduce her need for food or water , so can only go without food (and water) for the usual number of days that a human can do. She still is affected normally by hunger and thirst, which weakens her sand form as much as her human form.
While not vulnerable to natural moderate winds while in sand form (or weak vacuum suction , you'll need something stronger than a vaccum cleaner/ ) , if she is scattered in some fashion (by hurricane/tornado force winds or suchlike) , she has to take 12 hours reforming her body.
She cannot use her flight abilities until the majority of her mass is turned into sand.
If she is in-between sand/human form, her human parts are still vulnerable to damage as your average 20 year old woman is. While the speed of her transformation means this is not normally a problem, if something is fast enough it could still hurt her human form. Her human form is still fully vulnerable to damage/mental attack. Her human form heals as a normal human does
If her entire sand form body is somehow contained through powerful suction, she's stuck inside wherever she is contained. If she transforms into a human while in such circumstances, damage could be done.
Her sand form is much slower in water (we're talking wounded snail speed) , though it can still move within it, she will aim to get out of water if in sand form at the quickest opportunity, as it is very painful for her consciousness to be in water. She cannot pick objects up whilst in Sand form, she has to transform fully back into a human in order to do that.
Her clothes shift with her when she transforms, but she cannot turn objects into sand along with that.
If she's injured/fatigued in human form, she will move at a speed in her sand form which is equivalent to the speed that her human form could move while in sand form.
Physical Abilities
General Physical Capabilities: 21 year old woman with capabilities in Krav Maga , athletic and proficient in using her power in order to get the upper hand in any conflict.
Fighting Style: Use power to close in quickly and distract, choke opponent, aim to kill or incapacitate. No need for weapons (guns or otherwise) , if there looks like to be more than she can handle, or if they are using water / powerful vaccum suction, try to use power to escape.
Fighting Style Pros/Cons: Pros- you can't hurt sand, and you're choking to death on the wind, oh and now you're fighting close quarters with a skilled martial artist, just as you wasted all your bullets trying to hurt sand.
Cons-Use water or strong suction, then you can capture her pretty easily.
u]History Of Your Character[/u]
Rebecca was born in Texas to a mutant family, and had always been a bit of an outsider as a result. Even for her parents, her abilities were highly unusual, and it wasn't uncommon for her to go missing for days on end after her powers manifested at around age 5. Fortunately, after the first time, they realised that she would always come back … eventually. Her parents were reasonably wealthy, and Rebecca got a good handle on her skills academically, physically and mutation wise. Life was good, and remained so for the vast majority of her life.
She had two siblings, both of whom were mutants, both of whom were younger. Her brother Matthew, was not a particularly visible mutant, and often used his x-ray vision to pull pranks on teachers, cheat in exams, etc. etc. . Her sister, Bethany, was a highly visible mutant, 2 years younger than her, and was frequently picked on at school as a result. None of that got to her, and all three of the Smythe children achieved good (but not overly exceptional) grades despite bullying and isolation from other children. Their parents were highly supportive of their education, and her home life was rarely difficult. Sometimes she couldn't have what the really wealthy people had, but she was content with that. Occasionally she would use her power to gain an advantage hiding from people she didn't like (or when she was younger playing hide and seek).
When Rebecca was 17 , two policemen came to her door, with unthinkable news. Bethany had been grabbed by a pair of Church of Humanity acolytes. They had found her mutilated , half naked, corpse in a forest nearby their route from home to school. Rebecca had been ill that day, Matthew (14) went to a different school. A hate symbol was present on her-the details of exactly how the hate symbol was present were graciously spared from Rebecca. The perpetrators were not caught...not by the police anyway.
After she had recovered from her cold, Rebecca tracked down the Church of Humanity chapter in her area. It took her a few days to find the place, mostly by hiding in and around where the boys who had made fun of Bethany were talking, find the photos of her sister's body, and hatch a plan. Needless to say, an angry mutant that you could literally choke to death on was not what the chapter had expected to find when they began their meeting. She left no survivors, making sure that the photos of her sister were displayed on the meeting table while she tortured the last of them into making a phone call to the police.
All they found was a bit of sand in the throats of someof the victims, Rebecca had slightly shorter hair for a few days after that. She had been careful, her DNA of course was never found. Several “fine upstanding” members of the community were “murdered” for their role in Bethany's death. Rebecca lost all faith in non-mutant humanity after that point.
Still, she got on with life, went to university , opting for study abroad in York, England. It was a chance to have a clean break from the traumatic events of her past, and it happened to be cheaper than going to college in the USA. It was here that she took up Krav Maga properly as a hobby , while she had been doing the martial art since she was 8 (her father felt it would teach her discipline) , she became far more capable than she had been before. She was polite enough not to use her mutation in competition, but in casual fights, only other mutants were brave enough to train with her after a while.
Her university life was mostly good, while York had many large water bodies, she managed mostly to keep herself to herself. She made few friends, but was generally considered to be dedicated to study. Of course, she witnessed how humans could be more horrible to each other whilst at university, her abilities to hide being greatly enhanced by her mutation. Not that she tried to intervene in any way. She established in her after witnessing the debauchery, the meaningless , more decay than she could care to mention, that humans needed to be dealt with, not just to save mutants, but to save the world. While for herself these years were peaceful, she lost contact almost all of the few friends she did make whilst in the UK. She still got a call from a couple from her (mutant) flat mates last month, an once in the months before that, she appreciated that she wasn't forgotten.
She moved to New York, where many mutants had began to coalesce in search of jobs. In Jaager Worldwide, she found a mutant-friendly company who were willing to hire someone to do the tea, and some secretarial work for some low-down official. She of course took the job with both hands.

Rebecca looked down at the quivering human . He really shouldn't have tried it on. The man had followed her from the club, what now, he'd bought her a drink and she had thanked him politely for it! That was all she wanted to do, yeah she accepted that she was a good looking woman and it wasn't exactly uncommon for guys to hit on her, but goodness what part of “Not in a million years” had he not understood? I mean some guys...
The foot she had on his throat that she was slowly pressing downwards was enough to send the message, she thought. No need to actually kill this one, despite the discarded knife, now stained with sand, on the ground in the alleyway. “Remember that No means No, next time” she quietly whispered to the man. “And consider yourself lucky that I didn't start cutting bits off with that bladed overcompensation you've got yourself there.” She took her foot off the man's throat. He was bruised, gasping for breath, but alive. Her rouged lips curled into a wicked smile at the sight of his discomfort.
Humans were all the same, buy you one drink, then expecting you to take them home. She picked up the knife. It was a nice little kitchen knife, would work well for her vegetables back at home. She'd been needing a replacement. Her little flat would be waiting for her, and she couldn't wait to relax across the room. Small pleasures, things that such petty creatures as this guy would fail to understand.
As he ran away, eyes wide, unable to speak. “Poor baby. Lost your voice?” She laughed at him , almost a little too loudly. It was time to leave this place, no need to stay around here any longer. She smiled again as she felt the breeze in her hair. It was quick to walk, it was quicker to fly. But the knife, and her purse...
Looks like she was taking the bus again. She wrinkled her face in mild disappointment. Nevermind, who would suspect such a sweet, unassuming young lady? Nobody. She walked off, quiet, calm. This was just another night in NYC.
