The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

And now she was smiling.
He was lost. There wasn't going to be any recovering from this. He might as well just throw his hands in the air and walk away. Figuratively. It would be very rude to do that literally, and would kind of defeat the defeat. But not in a way he wanted.
Dealing with people was hard. Why was it so hard. Someone else should do all the dealing with people, someone alive and not so wound into his soul.
"It's not you in particular," Aiden said quietly, not quite a mutter but definitely less than full-voiced. Not that he ever really spoke loudly. He could, he just... didn't usually see a reason to speak loudly. He usually felt more like crawling into a dark, cold corner and pretending the world didn't exist.
At this point, Serena was having a hard time discerning whether or not Aiden actually liked her. Did he dislike her? Or was he just like this with everyone? Maybe it was just girls. Maybe he was afraid of them like her best friend had been oh so long ago. Throughout the conversation she was going through waves of sympathy or irritation, flicking between them.
She threw him a sideways glance, lingering on his facial expression for a little, searching for some kind of, any kind of explanation to why he was this way.
She had once upon a time, had a very hard time socialising with people, she shut herself off from everything, thinking that it would make everything easier to deal with in the long run. But it hadn't. Then the next time something triggered a shift in her she'd wanted to act like everything was fine on the surface, she could socialise fine, she could get through school and get good grades.
In the end, Serena sort of internalised this and dealt with her issues, and now she didn't find it hard to socialise, at least when the other party met her halfway.

And now she was waiting, apparently. For what? Him to talk more? He'd gone and dug himself a deeper hole, hadn't he.
On the other hand... had she not given up on him? He didn't think she was one of the people who just wanted to see other people trip up or look stupid, or to blackmail them with witness accounts of their awkward out-of-place-ness. He could be wrong, he'd been wrong before, but who knew. Maybe she actually thought there might be something vaguely worthwhile to this.
That.. wasn't new, exactly, but it wasn't common. It really wasn't something he was used to.
He should... maybe try to explain again? Was that the best course of action? It wasn't the preferable course of action but then that would just be because it involved talking. To a person. A living person. Who was st- not standing, running, same difference here, beside him.
They were still running? Maybe it really was easier to run more with other people. Compared to being musicless at least.
"I'm not good with people." Was that more of an explanation? Maybe kind of. What else could he say? What had they talked about but which had seemed to leave her confused? "If I'm awkward... um. It's not you, I guess I mean?"
Could he please please please crawl into some dark frozen hole now.
