Character's full name: Janelle Jennings
Alias/ Nickname/ Code name: None YET
Gender: Female
Age: 17
Date of Birth: (mm/dd/year) 1/18/1998
Birthplace/ Home/ Place of origin: Ithaca, New York
Nationality: American
Ethnicity/ Cultural Heritage: Irish, from the tip of her freckled nose, to the roots of her bright red hair. Suffice to say that family holidays involve much shouting, much laughter, and much good Irish Whisky.
Appearance
Hair color and style: Long, straight, and red. There isn’t much more to it.
Skin Tone: Very fair, but freckled.
Eye Color: Blue
Height: 5’ 6”
Build: slender, but not twig thin.
Visible mutation: (if applicable) None, unless she’s getting up to flower shenanigans.
Scars/ Tattoos/ Piercings: None outside of one in each ear. (Her parents would TOTALLY kill her)
Other features: Nothing remarkable.
Everyday clothing style: Janelle couldn’t be more average if she tried, Janelle could have walked off the pages of pretty much any trendy teenage shop. There are lots of leggings, cut-off tops, short skirts, and bandeaus in her wardrobe. Nothing too extreme though.
Uniform: N/A
Sleepwear: Since the Mansion is a residential school and there are lots of folks of varying gender around, Janelle wears any combination of shorts/pajama pants and tank tops around. Sometimes, if it’s cold she adds a cardigan or other item for her comfort.
Miscellaneous clothing:Again, Janelle generally just wears whatever is in style. Nothing special here.
Character
Personality: Janelle is a typical 21st century teenager. That means, she’s glued to her phone 24/7 and is simply shocked to think that life could continue without it being seemingly attached to her hand. Janelle is generally good-tempered, but does tend towards wanting her own way. With many friends back home, the transition to the Mansion will have been a bit difficult on Janelle.
Hobbies/ Interests: Janelle knows a lot of botany and a lot about plants. Being able to sense foliage and manipulate it, Janelle likes to know what exactly it is she’s playing with. Plants can be poisonous, yo, can’t be too careful! Janelle also knows her power works best when she works within the natural confines of a plant’s design. Knowing about them helps her do that.
Job or part time job and description: Janelle works part time at a local florist as a clerk. Pocket money. It’s important for coffee and clothes and stuff like that.
Fears/ phobias/ concerns: Nothing to write home about. Janelle doesn’t like spiders or the word, “moist,” but other than that she’s pretty even keeled.
Special talents: (not related to mutation) Janelle is capable of texting on a touch screen phone without looking and with minimal spelling errors. It really is a talent.
Morality
Good/ bad/ neutral/ other: Good. Janelle came from a loving family who simply wanted her to learn in a place where she would have the support she needed as she grew up as a mutant. They’ve seen what happens when people can’t control their powers, or get a chip on their shoulder because they’re not accepted for who they are. Janelle has a strong sense of right and wrong, and while she doesn’t always make the right decisions, she’s generally good-intentioned.
Mutations
Mutation description: Plant Manipulation. Janelle is a classic plant manipulator. She is capable of feeling and, to some extent, moving and growing plants with her powers.
Strengths:
Plant Sense: Janelle can feel plant life within a 4 ft radius of her body. The plants don’t talk to her, they don’t hum or sing, they are simply a warm, individual presence that Janelle can sense. As would be expected, when Janelle is in a densely vegetated area, it can be a bit overwhelming.
Plant Manipulation: When focusing on a specific plant within her area of effect, Janelle can manipulate that plant to some degree. This includes the ability to move the plant and the ability for Janelle to transfer some of her energy to a plant to make it grow. The energy for the plant to grow comes directly from Janelle’s own energy, so if she uses her power it tires her out requiring her to rest or eat a meal to replenish her energy before she uses that particular power again. As the size of the plant increases, Janelle’s ability to effect it with her powers decreases.
Weaknesses and Limitations:
The plants that Janelle manipulates must currently be alive, so her power would have no effect on a tree that had died and fallen in the forest. This also means that Janelle can’t throw pencils across the room with her powers, and she cannot do anything more with paper or other wood products than the average person. If a seed for a plant is present, Janelle could, with enough energy, cause it to grow and/or bloom. However, if there were no seeds present, Janelle could not create a plant from thin air.
To this point, Janelle has had little reason to use her power in a martial sense, so she’s not very good at fighting or anything that requires brute strength of will.
As stated in the strengths portion of the power, as the size of a plant increases, the degree to which Janelle can effect said plant decreases. A large tree would be nearly impossible for her to manipulate and would take a huge amount of energy. A single daisy, or a handful of grass? A branch of a larger tree? Doable.
Physical Abilities
General Physical Capabilities: Janelle is a runner. It’s something she’s done since she was young, and it’s something she loves to do. It doesn’t do much for her, but it does improve her stamina a bit.
Fighting Style: None. Janelle probably went through some of those self-defense classes in high school where they teach you to step on someone’s instep when they grab you from behind, but there’s never been anything formal.
Fighting Style Pros/Cons: N/A
History Of Your Character
Janelle lived the semi-charmed life of an upper-class suburban child for the first twelve years of her life. Her powers manifested around the same time as all the other life changes that pre-teens go through.
At a boy/girl party for one of her best friends, Janelle was involved in a rousing game of truth or dare when she was dared to kiss who was considered to be the cutest boy at the whole party. The boy didn’t know that Janelle had been planning this moment for WEEKS. It had seemed like a great idea as they had planned, but now that the moment of truth had arrived, Janelle was a nervous wreck. Still, the dare had been made, and one simply couldn’t back down from a dare. So in the back yard of her best friend’s house, Janelle Jennings closed her eyes and had her first kiss.
It was nice, and for a while, Janelle thought all the gasps were expressions of how magical the kiss had been. Then she opened her eyes and saw the flowers. All the flowers. TONS of flowers that had sprouted up all around her and the boy. It was the first display of her powers and the largest one she’s ever produced to date. Janelle was petrified for a few moments, until her girlfriends all started to rave about how magical the kiss had been. Apparently being a mutant in the suburbs wasn’t such a bad thing…as long as it made you look like a fairytale Princess.
For Janelle, hiding the circumstances of her powers’ emergence was far more important to her than hiding the fact that she was a mutant, so all of that was handled incredibly well. Time went on, Janelle got older, and her powers manifested themselves in small ways every now and then. After a couple of years, her parents sat her down and they all had a talk about how it would be better for her to spend her last two years of high school in a place where she could learn control over her mutant abilities. After much discussion, Janelle agreed and the plans began to move her to New York City.
Janelle is still close with many of her friends in Ithica, and she visits them as regularly as her schedules at work and school allow. Things really couldn’t have gone better.

Sample RP:
The bell above the door of the flower ship jingled merrily and Janelle looked up from the magazine she’d been flipping through for the last hour. Customers were a bit scarce this time of year because all of the weddings had already been booked and nobody had time to talk to a clerk…except for this guy.
He looked like an absolute nervous wreck, the kind of guy who had never set foot in a flower shop and simply wanted to grab the first pretty thing he saw and run screaming. This was the kind of interesting the redhead had been waiting for and she smiled, tossing her ponytail back from where it had fallen of her shoulders and called out a simple, “Hello!” It was enough to startle the customer and he jerked wary eyes in her direction.
“Uh. Hello…I need flowers for a girl.”
Ah ha! Janelle smiled knowingly and nodded her head slowly. No sudden movements with one this jumpy. “Well, is she already special to you, or are you hoping she will be?”
“Hoping.” Came the one word answer.
Now that she had a little guidance, Janelle knew just the thing, “If that’s the case, then you’re going to want something that stands out and makes your intentions clear.” She said, “I’ve got just the thing. Wait here, and don’t worry…even a little,” and off to the back she went.
In the storage space, Janelle went right for the stargazer lilies. They didn’t necessarily say hope, but hope wasn’t necessarily the impression you wanted to give when you were putting your heart on the line. Nope, the brilliant orange and pink flowers represented devotion, prosperity, and success. That was the message a person wanted to send. A few minutes to dress the bouquet, and just a tiny surge of energy from Janelle to make the stars of the show shine and she made her way back out to the front. For the first time, the customer smiled.
“They’re…perfect.” He said, a wave of calm washing over him as he took the bouquet and paid.
“Think of us when it’s time for the wedding!” Janelle called as the bell jingled on the customer’s exit.
