"End the injustice!" Valerie North screamed as she threw her fist into the air, earning a chorus of loud shouts of agreement from the small crowd of mutants standing around her. "End the repression!" Vicky cried, followed by more yells of consensus. Valerie felt a shiver run across her skin as a gust of wind blew over her. Iowa nights during the Fall were always chilly and after living there her whole life she was pretty used to it, but tonight she wore only a pair of spandex shorts and a sports bra. It wasn't her usual apparel, but Vicky had insisted she don the revealing outfit in order to show off as much green skin and thorns as possible. It was 'visual protest' as Vicky had put it.
Vicky was Valerie's closest friends within their little mutant rebellion group, she was also the only other female which was likely a big reason for that. While both Valerie and Vicky had a fiery attitudes, Vicky was much more intense with her punk style purple and black hair and wild makeup. She was the confident and passionate unofficial leader of the group and though half the time she seemed partially insane, everyone had come to respect her for the most part.
"Hey," Valerie heard Vicky say as she edged her way through the crowd of people to her, "look who decided to join the party." Vicky tilted her head towards the street. Valerie turned to see three police vehicles pull up in front of the park, lights flashing. "Damn it." Valerie cursed. "We've hardly even been here an hour." She said sourly as she watched the cops begin to pile out of the cars. Vicky shook her head. "We're not running this time." She said. Valerie's eyes widened. They had managed to avoid arrest by ending protests when cops got involved, it was the only reason they hadn't been thrown into jail yet. If they refused to disperse, she was sure they'd all end up behind bars. "Are you crazy? If we don't they'll lock us up." Valerie reminded her friend. "The reason the Order is so successful is because they don't back down. It's about time we do the same." Vicky said seriously.
The crowd around them had silenced and all eyes were on Vicky, waiting for her to tell them to head out. "We aren't leaving!" She yelled, as the police officers approached the crowd. "We have the right to protest the injustice that is this society and this government!" Vicky continued fiercely. A response of shouted 'yeahs' erupted from the crowd but Valerie didn't join in, she was too afraid of what was about to happen. She could see the officers' hands move to the guns in their holster, she could only imagine what would happen if they pulled them out.
"You need to clear out." The Police Captain ordered. "Refusal to comply will result in arrest." He told them, as if daring them to resist, as if he wanted them to. He would probably be happy to toss some muties into jail. "You heard me, we aren't leaving." Vicky said coldly as he took a threatening step towards the line of police officers. "Keep back!" The Captain shouted, hands gripped tightly on the gun in his holster.
Before Valerie could even process what was happening, Vicky extended her hand out towards the Police Captain's chest and made a circular motion with her pointer finger. "No more tyranny." She whispered as a hole appeared in the center of the Captain's chest. Everyone just stood there frozen for a moment, then the Captain let out a cry out pain as blood began to ooze out of the wound. The Captain crumpled to the ground and Valerie turned around and ran. She heard screams and gunshots behind her but she didn't stop, not until she collapsed in an alleyway ten blocks away. After that, she just curled into the fetal position and cried.
