The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Neena shook her head as Raina joined the tumble-bumble group that seemed to be the women in this room. It was undignified, but compared to getting hit or felt up, Neena considered herself and the others to be on the winning team.
She smiled as Raina tackled Shield. It was the happiest she'd seen her, and was good to see. However her smile and glasses also hid a secret agenda. It was nearly impossible to tell who she was looking at behind the dark glasses, so she used the momentary distraction to observe Doug a bit closer.
There was definitely something 'off' about him, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. He looked and sounded the same. And he acted the same. Same height, same mustache, same eyes. On all outwards appearances, Doug was Doug.
But something was just.... 'off'.....
Neena turned to finish up her chore, before her escort finally decided to come in and pull her back to the Laundry. Her smile faded as she turned, becoming a slight frown. Her observation skills had kept her alive, and she was very proud of them. Even without her vision, she prided herself to be able to spot the little details. All growing up she'd loved the I SPY and Where's Waldo type books, and the pictures where you have two side by side, and you find 'what's wrong with this picture'.
So why couldn't she figure out what was wrong with this picture??
She took off her glasses and rubbed her eyes. Maybe it was the lack of sleep. Maybe another trip to Isolation was in order. As soon as she got back and introduced that habanero powder to Bloodfang's boxers, as well as a few other guards she had in mind, a visit to Solitary could be arranged.
Her smile returned at the thought, and she began humming a bit.

Michael hadn’t missed any of Doug’s reaction. That wasn’t just out of place for Doug, that was out of place for any of the guards in this hell hole. Michael took a few moments to digest this information.
He’d cut Doug a little more slack than originally planned, not a lot more, but enough to show he wasn’t gonna shut the man down. Perhaps he was sincere about helping, only time would tell.

Raina backed up and looked at how most of the people were doing laundry and she looked at the pile she had knocked over. She frowned but set to work sitting down and neatly folding things. She was drawing it out a bit longer then it needed to take- she didn't exactly want to leave the others yet. It was nice seeing Shield. Her mind wandered to Ted and hoped he was alright. She'd ask Shield if she could but she knew she couldn't use her voice anymore.
Sonya steps away from the door as Raina and Michael separate, glancing sideways at the door as if waiting for another body to come crashing through it. "Note to self," she mutters, loud enough to be overheard, "get a matress installed by the door. Doesn't anybody just walk in anymore?"
Yes, it's a lame joke, and it goes over about as well as she'd expected. Meanwhile, both Michael and Neena are looking her over like a two-headed calf at auction, though they're trying not to be obvious about it. Which is probably a good thing, overall... this isn't a situation where she exactly wants to fit in seamlessly, as long as "management" doesn't catch on, and everyone so far seems to be being discreet.
She squelches the impulse to look over at the cameras again... it won't do to look too suspicious. Which raises another possibility, actually: if she can find some way to neutralize the cameras, or at least the microphones, in the Customs room she could turn the room into a focal point where inmates could coordinate much more reliably.
She makes a mental note to contact Rupert about it before her attention is inexorably brought back to Raina, who is silently folding laundry. Sonya takes a stack of folded clothes from the pile next to Raina and transfers them to an empty box. "Let's see what we can do about keeping these from getting knocked over again, shall we? Um... sorry, didn't catch your name. Call me Doug."

Raina looked up like a frightened deer. Her eyes were wide having been addressed by this man she assumed was a guard. He wasn't acting mean but it was hard to tell with these guards if they were being sincere or pulling strings.
He asked her name and she thought maybe he was playing a crueal joke. Afterall, if she even made the softest noise her collar would kick in and she'd be in incredible pain. Instead she just stared back at the man unmoving as if staying still would some how hide her. She was holding back tears afraid of what could happen if he thought she was disobeying.
Under the bruises and the dirt there was a young woman looking up at him who had once been beautiful and in love. Though many would have thought she died inside the fleeting moment she shared with Sheild was enough to show there was still some humanity left inside her. This was the mutant who had been detective Rupert Kelly's girlfriend. This was the mutant who was this 'godess' of a sister to the deranged Naveed.
Unfortunately, among the bits of information that haven't migrated from Doug's persona into Sonya's own -- supposing that Doug himself was even aware of it -- was the way that the Camp's collars had the side-effect of rendering her mute.
On the other hand, it's impossible to mistake Raina's panicked expression, and there's no real question in Sonya's mind that her attempt at a friendly overture had caused it, even if she has no idea why. And the last thing she needs is to undo whatever progress she may have made so far by having Raina freak out on her.
So Sonya stands back up again and backs away from Raina, letting her continue her work on the laundry in silence and solitude.

Michael watched the Doug make the fatal mistake of asking Raina to speak, however he didn’t push her, which was the right call. He knew that Neena would not tolerate it, thereby saving himself the need to get involved. So far he didn’t have a black mark on his record, not something he was looking to change. Being considered one of the more docile inmates had its advantages.
“She can’t speak cos of her collar,” he said frankly, before going back to work. That was all Doug was getting for free, he wanted anything else off Michael and he’d have to earn it, and the prices were pretty high.
"Note to self, get a mattress installed by the door. Doesn't anybody just walk in anymore?"
He was joking? Neena paused briefly, but didn't turn around.
"Let's see what we can do about keeping these from getting knocked over again, shall we?" He placed the stack on the shelf next to her, and she allowed herself to give him a brief glance before he spoke to Raina. "Um... sorry, didn't catch your name. Call me Doug."
“She can’t speak cos of her collar.” Whether he was trying to get Raina to speak and get shocked or not, Shield cut him off very neatly. That did it. Now Neena was more than curious.
"I'd better get going before I get in trouble again." She spoked to Shield and Raina, but looked at Doug. "I've got a quota to meet before cleaning the Guard Barracks this afternoon." She turned back to Shield and winked. 'Be careful,' she mouthed silently to them. She gave Raina a warm smile, then walked out the door with the old clothes and her hidden packages.
She wondered if Doug would pick up on her hint. It would be interesting to see how he reacted.
(OOC: Sorry, rushed, I'll explain later. lol I'm out for now. )

Doug backed away and after a warm smile from Neena Raina relaxed a little. She was still on guard. She was thankful the guard wasn't just playing a game of cat and mouse with her.
It was strange for her. She was one of the older mutants at the school, her birthday had come and gone while in the camps and she was now 22. But being stuck here with everyone she no longer differentiated between staff and student. She's forgotten Micheals age, and some days forgot that she was older.
She piled the laundry back up into the box and started working on more silently in the corner by herself, listening to the others.
At first, Sonya is simply puzzled... as far as she knows, the collars shock the use of mutant abilities, not anything else. (Though she honestly has no idea how they distinguish "mutant abilities" from ordinary actions performed by mutants. In fact, the more she thinks about these collars the less sense they make to her; they seem more like magic than technology. But obviously they work, and she doesn't have to understand the mechanism to understand their function.)
It takes her a few moments to put the pieces together - Raina's terrorized silence, her unknown mutation, her comment back at the coffee shop about how she wasn't "supposed to" sing. "Oh... her voice triggers her mutation? That's..."
Sonya can't find an adjective adequate to the job. It's bad enough to suppress mutant abilities; Sonya can understand why that might be necessary to keep people from teleporting out or blowing up the building or whatever. But to torture people whenever they speak? That's insane. What do they do to mutants with superhuman intelligence... shock them whenever they think? The whole idea is so implausible Sonya would have mocked it mercilessly had she encountered it in fiction... but here it is, actually happening. Unbelievable.
"Anyway... thanks for telling me." Turning back to Raina, she adds "Sorry... I didn't know."
> "I've got a quota to meet before cleaning the Guard Barracks this afternoon."
In and of itself it's an unremarkable statement, but Neena is giving her a weird look as she says it, as if it's supposed to mean something. Is that some kind of code? Am I supposed to know what that means? Neena leaves without clarifying anything, and Sonya is left more than slightly puzzled. Maybe she's just letting me know where she'll be, in case I want to contact her again?
She's not sure, but it's as good a theory as any. Meanwhile, there's a more immediate problem to be addressed, and Sonya rummages through boxes of stuff hopefully until she comes up with a sketchpad and a black marker, which she places on the floor near Raina. "I wouldn't take them out of here if I were you, but if you want to talk... well, it's up to you."
The door opened and another guard stepped just inside the doorway. "Got another one here to help out. She was on medical down time until she healed enough to work so they want to start her off with something easy."
The guard stepped back out and then half shoved/half guided Nika through the door. Nika looked around hoping to see familiar faces. She smiled broadly as her hopes came true. She saw Raina, Michael and Neena. There was also another guard who seemed to be watching over things so Nika toned down her glee.
"Hi guys. So what do we do here?" The catgirl looked around with genuine curiousity, but that was cut into by Nika's true personality.
"Anyone miss me?" She made her statement as she raised her eyebrows and and tilted her head in a cute pose.

Michael saw the look passing between Neena and Doug, and hoped that Neena didn’t come off worse because of it. He was planning his next move once he left here when another familiar face arrived.
“Nika,” he said with a smile, “It’s like a school reunion today, what with Neena, Raina and now yourself. You’re looking much better than the last time I saw you.” Which wasn’t saying much, she looked beaten half to death last time he had seen her.

Raina sat and looked puzzled at Doug. Why would he want to give her the ability to communicate? She stared nervously down at the pad of paper and marker at her feet and the back to the others. It was odd to think she hadn't spoken in over seven weeks. She shakily picked up the marker and paper and began to slowly scribble something down. Moving cautiously hoping she wasn't walking in to some sort of trap or crueal game laid out by Doug and the guards, she turned the paper around for all to see and she smiled enough to close her eyes while she proudly displayed it.
The paper in the neatest writing she could muster said: "I MISSED YOU GUYS"
Hearing Michael's greeting and seeing Raina's written message made Nika smile again. She risked any sort of punishment as she ran over and hugged Michael, Raina and Neena one after the other.
"I missed you guys too."
Nika directed herself more to Michael for a moment. "Yeah, I feel better than when we all first got here. I have a new scar now at least." she said as she took Michaels hand and ran his finger tips over her dress to feel the scar beneath. "I can do alot more now but they want me to take it easy so I've been..." Nika started to have flashes of some of her so called jobs that she had been made to do lately..."I've been busy with some of the lighter work stuff."
She now returned her attention to the others again. "You guys look like you're hanging in there pretty good."
Sonya remains silent as the mutants have their reunion, leaning against the wall and periodically rolling his eyes for the benefit of the cameras, and trying not to resent being treated as an outsider. The fact is, not only is she playing the role of an outsider, she actually is one... these inmates have been through something together that Sonya can hardly imagine. So she concentrates her attention on the surveillance systems, hoping to come up with some way of neutralizing them. She's pretty sure she can justify the current little party as a morale-booster for productivity purposes, but sooner or later she'll have to find a space where serious conversations can happen.
