The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Maya held Evelyn's hand tightly as she pulled her through the world of reflections. It must have been confusing for the girl with her echoes trying to latch on to the distorted reality, especially since they were still hopped up on alcohol. Maya chuckled to herself as she stepped out of the large antique mirror, her bare feet (heels would have been a pain) landing soundlessly on the soft and expensive carpet.
"Welcome home Lady Summers" she grinned, helping her girlfriend out of the mirror. The house was large, posh, and completely empty, thanks to the wedding that was still going on somewhere in another part of town.
Perfect time to steal some alcohol from the rich, and feed it to the poor.

Fact: Echoes liked facts. They liked knowing the hows and what's of things that were going on, calculating, and making sense of things.
Fact: Echoes did not like mirror traveling. The distorted views were hard to make sense of, and they couldn't quite grasp the 'hows' of walking through things.
Fact: Drunk echoes REALLY didn't like mirror traveling. Drunk echoes were still trying to count sequins on dresses and figure out if they got the right cookies with the appropriate amount of chocolate chips. By the time Evelyn's feet hit carpet, she wasn't even sure the echoes could think in numbers.
Fact: Her echoes were about ready to surrender and leave her drunk butt in the middle of the living room with nothing but her inhibited brain to guide her. But she had a grin on her face as she looked around the polished house, and snorted under her breathe.
"Oh look, the polished castle, the dragon must be sleeping anywhere. Treasure trove is that way." She pointed a thumb down the hallway and navigated with her still in tact perfect memory. Her steps were only sort of unsteady at this point. Her brain was swimming, but her balance was functioning remarkably well. The cabinet was some fancy type of wood [Ebony], polished and decorated with a number [52] of top shelf adult beverage choices. She wasn't sure what they did with so many at home, considering they probably tried a number of high class wines at restaurants, but maybe it was for the guests. Well, they were guests. May as well help themselves.
"Anything strike your fancy?" She mused, glancing at Mirror, then momentarily getting distracted as the echoes fluttered around the room, pointing out things that changed. There were no family photos, no evidence they had ever had a daughter. Not that that was really anything new... her parents were never the sentimental type.
>>"Oh look, the polished castle, the dragon must be sleeping anywhere. Treasure trove is that way."
Evelyn was adorable when she was drunk.
"Lead the way m'lady" Maya grinned, letting go of Eve's hand for balance purposes as she followed the girl across the house, trying her best not to gawk at the size and quality of the place that used to be her home (and still housed a whole family of sh*tty human beings). Human beings who apparently had a lot of issues to drown. Or a lot of friends. To drown.
>>"Anything strike your fancy?"
"You" Maya chuckled, kissing Eve's shoulder, feeling the unfamiliar tingling sensation of being a teenager doing several forbidden things at once. She stepped past Eve and looked at the drinks.
"Whoa. Your family is posh." she grinned, looking at one bottle after another. "How about..."
Brandy. The expensive kind. The "wholy sh*t they paid a fortune for this" kind. Maya chuckled as she poured some liquor into two glasses and offered one to Eve.

Evelyn had never quite experienced the rush of doing something she shouldn't have. But the buzz she was currently under was making her wonder why she behaved so much before. Maya's kiss made her shoulder tingle slightly, and her echoes flickered, stopped, and tried returning, jumbling up the labels of the bottles with their dwindling ability to read. Just because they were making less sense didn't mean they were really shutting up though.
"My parents are posh... I think they'd argue I fell a little far from the tree though." The glamorous house always felt like a dungeon to her. She had been glad to move out, but even now the memories were ever crisp in her mind. She grinned as she took the glass, and took a light sip. It was much better than what she had at the wedding, that was for sure. Maybe the echoes would like it better and stop being so obnoxious.
[Newspaper, dinning room table. Double folded, creased so edges perfectly align. Sign of order. Perfectionist tendencies. Bottles arranged by price and brand. House clean, impeccable. Controlling. Concerned over appearances.] Yeah well, she knew all that already. She took another drink, and glanced around the apartment more. There was a stack of mail on a table close by, and the echoes couldn't quite make out what they said. Without realizing what she was doing she drifted closer, and the echoes started scanning the visible writing.

Evelyn jumped slightly as Maya came over, a tint of pink on her cheeks. She pushed her hair from her face and chuckled slightly, nodding to the mail. "The echoes just wanted to see what was here..." She said without thinking about it. Out loud, the idea seemed silly. Now the voices in her head were pushing her around. She took another drink and scanned the papers more. Even if she wasn't looking for anything in particular, what was there surprised her. There was an open letter from a familiar looking name, and she scanned the words thoughtfully.
Or, tried to. Her reading wasn't doing so well now.
"You can probably grab one of those bottles for the road if you want. That's one of the few things I bet they take inventory of... I recognize this name, but I can't quite place who it is..." She mused. For some reason, she felt like she shouldn't be fond of the individual. But the echoes were already distracted again, pointing her down the hallway.
>>"The echoes just wanted to see what was here..."
Maya chuckled at the wording, the echoes apparently got more than funny when alcohol was involved. She peered over Evelyn's shoulder at the letters.
>>"You can probably grab one of those bottles for the road if you want. That's one of the few things I bet they take inventory of... I recognize this name, but I can't quite place who it is..."
"Can't place it?" Maya arched an eyebrow, turning away from the letter to look at Eve in surprise. Wasn't she supposed to have perfect memory of, like, everything and everyone? Ever?
"Are you sure you're okay?... Maybe you should not drink more." she said with a slight smirk. Eve, tipsy. That was adorable.

>>"Can't place it?"
Maya's surprise keyed Evelyn in on the strange situation she was facing. All the drinking was actually making things feel...fuzzier. Maybe it wasn't working on the echoes, but the memories were certainly harder to access. She thought about it for a moment, and stuck her tongue out at Maya's smirk.
>>"Maybe you should not drink more."
"Why? It's sort of getting interesting now." She laughed, and wandered a few steps down one of the hallways, then turned back to Maya when the echoes started estimating costs of lightbulbs. Not what she really wanted to hear. "Actually, I sort of thought more about how my powers work, and I did have a sort of theory. So, the echoes and playbacks sort of work together. I remember everything, but if you imagine all that information as pieces of papers and files and folders and boxes, there would be so much to sift through remembering that much would feel useless because it would be hard to get to anything... but the echoes sort of... find stuff. Not just like, looking around here, but memories too, so if the echoes start having trouble maybe that's why it's harder to remember..." She rambled, somewhat less coherently than she might have. Or maybe, more coherently than she otherwise might have.
Oh, mail. That name seemed really familiar...
"You want to play cards? We could play cards... that seems really fun right now. The other kids used to hate playing with me because the echoes are really bad about the whole card counting thing..." She drifted back towards the cabinet where she was sure her parents used to keep some playing cards. The echoes started looking at the labels again.
>>"Why? It's sort of getting interesting now. Actually, I sort of thought more about how my powers work, and I did have a sort of theory. So, the echoes and playbacks sort of work together..."
Evelyn, even on the verge of being royally drunk, was still coherent enough to present theories about her own powers. Maya listened with an amused smile, half paying attention to the novel idea of two mutations working as one, and half admiring Evelyn's flushed face as she explained it.
>>"You want to play cards? We could play cards... that seems really fun right now. The other kids used to hate playing with me because the echoes are really bad about the whole card counting thing..."
Maya blinked, as yet another interesting tidbit was revealed.
"Remind me to take you to Vegas sometime" she grinned, finishing her drink "I think ya'll gonna be fine without the inheritance..."
Evelyn seemed distracted by... well, everything. Maya chuckled and walked over to her to gently turn her away from the liquor cabinet.
"Sure, we can play, but probably not here. Dunno when your parents are planning on ditching the party..."

>>"Remind me to take you to Vegas sometime"
"I wonder how long it would take to get kicked out..." She mused aloud, the echoes trying to calculate how much they could win without alerting security foul play was happening. She wondered if they kept adapteds in casinos now... probably the top end ones... She felt herself getting steered away from the liquor cabinet and stuck her tongue out at Maya again.
"Finnnne we can play cards at the mansion....But, first," She snuck a kiss from Maya with a grin, and pranced backwards a few steps, stealing one of the bottles from the cabinet then returning to the mirror-walker's side. "My one Robin Hood deed for the week. They don't deserve it." She looped her arm around Mayas and hummed happily to herself.
>>"I wonder how long it would take to get kicked out..."
"We would always have a way out. It's the prefect crime" Maya grinned. She knew full well that the casino owners would not be the main problem; it would be Sam, when he found out about it.
>>"Finnnne we can play cards at the mansion....But, first... My one Robin Hood deed for the week. They don't deserve it."
Maya looked down at the happily humming Evelyn and smirked.
"I have a feeling that I am corrupting you, Miss Summers" she chuckled as she took the bottle from Evelyn's hands "I am not sure if I should be proud of that, or ashamed."

Dating a mirror-walker was certainly useful when it came to having an exit strategy. As long as there was a reflective surface, you were good. Well, unless they broke it, but getting out fast enough would be the training part. Although she wasn't sure training was supposed to include crime... As fun as it would be.
Maybe if they just trained and happened to have to use that training because they stumbled into a less than legal activity.... The echoes went back to paying attention to what Maya was saying next.
"Corrupt me? Why, what makes you think you're corrupting me? I'm not sure anyone can do worse than the echoes already do... Nothing is ever really 'right or wrong' with them, since they can relate to anyone's side of the story... Which gets weird... But the drinking, that's totally your fault now. So, proud or ashamed or whatever. Feel it." she smirked, letting her head rest on Maya's shoulder. The more the alcohol settled, the less coherent the echoes seemed to be. Their powers to persuade, however, were increasing. It took all her concentration not to turn back and go look at the mail. The echoes wanted to know....
...she sort of wanted to know....
But Maya's shoulder was also comfortable. The echoes could wait for now.

"I'm feelin' it" Maya grinned, wrapping an arm around Evelyn as she leaned against her shoulder. One revelation about her powers after another, the girl was swimming in drunk echoes. How nice.
"Come on princess, bedtime for you" she chuckled, walking Evelyn back to the mirror. She paused before they walked into the surface "Is there anything else you wanna grab since we are here? Not sure when we're gonna rob your parents next..."

Evelyn considered the question for a moment, "I don't suppose we can steal my childhood back, can we..." She mused as seriously as she could manage. Then she shook her head, trying to focus through all the drunk voices. She hadn't been in this house for a few years, and she couldn't really think of anything that she should try getting while she was here. Most of her belongings were at the apartment. Except...
"Wait! I know!" Letting go of Maya, she teetered somewhat awkwardly around the corner and into one of the back bedrooms. There was a rather impressive looking floor safe in here, and even drunk she managed to spin in the combination. The door took a little effort to scoot, but inside were a collection of valuables she mostly ignored. Stealing priceless jewelry would be a good way to get herself arrested. But stealing something she already owned....
"Apartment deed!" She declared, holding up the piece of paper. At least they wouldn't be able to take that from her now. She scooted the door shut, let it lock, then took hold of Maya's arm again. It was starting to feel more for stability than just the romantic nature of it at this point. It took all the effort she had to stop the echoes from turning her around to look at how many coins were in the safe. "We don't need to know what year they were..." She muttered at the protesting powers.
>>"I don't suppose we can steal my childhood back, can we..."
"I wish we could" Maya said, more somber than usual. She had also lost a portion of her childhood when Mom disappeared. "I have done time travel once. Trust me, it's messy."
As not as glamorous as one would expect.
>>"Wait! I know!
Eve let go of her and walked over to the next room. Maya watched her as she opened a safe, leaning against the door frame.
"I'm not sure robbing them blind would..."
>>"Apartment deed!... We don't need to know what year they were..."
"All right, let's get outta here" Maya laughed. Even drunk as she was Evelyn still managed to make some kind of sense. Weird sense. Looping an arm around the girl's waist she pressed a kiss to her forehead before they walked back to the mirror.
Mirror to car, park a few blocks away, and from car back to the Mansion. Maya mirrorwalked Eve back to her room - no one needed to see one of the students returning home under X-men supervision, drunk.
"It's bedtime for you miss" she chuckled, letting go of Evelyn once they were out of the mirror.
