The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Evelyn was somewhat excited and somewhat nervous about today. After talking things out with Mirror, she'd agreed to a movie sometime... which, considering the mirror-walkers abilities, had a different sort of meaning to it. Rather than sit and watch the film, they were going to take a trip into it. She spent the last few days considering what film, but it wasn't until she wandered home to get her belongings when the idea finally clicked.
Sherlock: it was the natural choice, of course; fitting, the danger was something solvable with intellect and the show was somewhat mellower than the movie. There were a few explosions and action scenes, but she felt confident she could survive those. Better than something like Transformers, or an actual film, at least. Plus, she'd get to match wits with one of her favorite literary characters. She had to do some scavenging to find a copy of the show, but once she did, she finally got the nerve to find Mirror's bedroom, and knocked on the door.
"Hey, Mirror, you there?" She said tentatively, wondering if the mirror-walker would even be in the room or if she'd have to deal with their roommate. She fiddled with the DVD case while she waited and second guessed her decision. It was just a movie though, right? She couldn't get into too much trouble.
It had been a few days, no more or less hectic than usual, everything still caught up in the clean-up process after the riots. There was enough work to go around, and still, Mirror found him/herself wondering if Evelyn was going to take up the offer on the movie-walking. She was probably still trying to convince the echoes it was a good idea.
In any case, she had straightened up her room. Megan had not been spending much time lately anyway. It looked almost decent now. Except for the dig hair.
Maya was sitting on the floor in the process of dealing with that situation, accompanied by a stoic Angua and a doggie brush, when there was a knock on the door.
>>"Hey, Mirror, you there?"
"Yeah" Maya answered, scrambling off the floor and taking a detour to the bathroom to dump the dog hair and wash her hands. Angua jogged to the door,so when it finally opened a large dog nose was the first to appear, closely followed by Maya's face who was still wondering why Evelyn would choose to come around on a Maya day.

The door open and thankfully, Mirror appeared. Well, Angua appeared first, and Evelyn greeted the dog, then looked up to the owner. "Nothing's up, really. I just though of something we could do for movie walking. Well, it's not technically a movie, but it's sort of the same length and..." She rubbed the back of her neck and held out the DVD awkwardly. The echoes picked up on a small level of confusion. It was similar to last time they hung out when she joked about Gawain's female half. Her detective skills were could, but they couldn't quite read that deep into things.
"If it's a bad time though, I can always come back. I mean, the museums been slow since we're waiting for repairs so I'd kind of just been hanging out here at the mansion anyway." She thought about the trip to her house to ger her belongings and the rather eventful adventure in the sewers. That was probably something she wasn't going to bring up with Mirror, if she wanted to stay on good terms at least.
Angua harvested some ear scratches and then bounded off down the hallway towards the mansion grounds.
>>"Nothing's up, really. I just though of something we could do for movie walking. Well, it's not technically a movie, but it's sort of the same length and..."
Maya took the DVD as she stood aside so Evelyn could walk in. She grinned when she read the title.
"Why am I not even surprised..."
>>"If it's a bad time though, I can always come back. I mean, the museums been slow since we're waiting for repairs so I'd kind of just been hanging out here at the mansion anyway."
"No, not at all, it's a good time" Maya shook her head, setting the DVD down. Any time was a good time, really "Um, just let me go get changed, I'm covered in Angua. If I'm gonna meet the most famous detective in history, I should at least look decent, right?" she added with a smirk, rummaging though the drawers in the closet.

Evelyn gave a little grin, watching as Angua vanished down the hallway. She watched as Maya read the title, and the echoes quickly picked up on her companion's amusement. "Hey, I figured I'd choose my battles carefully. Battle of wits: I can handle that."
Her eyes scanned the room, which wasn't in bad shape. The echoes suspected Maya had cleaned recently, with or without help from her dog, certainly. She was wearing jeans today, which was rare for her, but she figured she didn't want to go running around who knows where in a skirt. The top she chose was white with red accents, and she had a red ribbon in her hair. Her fingerless gloves matched, little heart shaped gaps on the back of her hands, and she hooked her thumbs on her belt-loop as she turned slightly in a circle while Mirror rummaged for something to change. She wondered what it would be like, actually talking to someone who could keep up with her mutation. She wasn't sure if she would like it or find it awkward and annoying in the end.
>>"If I'm gonna meet the most famous detective in history, I should at least look decent, right?"
She laughed at the girls remark, and grinned over her shoulder at her. "I'd feel concerned if Mr. Holmes didn't share some of my lack of social talent. I think to him you'd probably be more attractive as a dead body, frankly. But that's just him." She mused and shook her head slightly.
>>"Hey, I figured I'd choose my battles carefully. Battle of wits: I can handle that."
"I'm just glad you're not into zombie movies" Maya chuckled.
>>"I'd feel concerned if Mr. Holmes didn't share some of my lack of social talent. I think to him you'd probably be more attractive as a dead body, frankly. But that's just him."
"Let's not test that idea" Maya snorted as she finally settled on jeans and a shirt as well. The temptation was great to dress up girlier than Evelyn for once, but then she had to admit than even in a dress and make-up she would still not be as graceful as a full-time girl. Probably.
"By the way, just a heads up: if we die in the movie, we'll just appear back here. Not a pleasant experience, but not fatal either."
If previous adventures with girls had been any indication, it was a fair warning.
Maya disappeared in the bathroom and then emerged a few minutes later, wearing jeans and a blue tank top, with her hair freshly brushed just like Angua's. She got a full view at Evelyn as she was waiting for her.
"You look nice" Maya smiled, and then quickly turned her attention to the TV set on her desk. "... so, ready for the adventure?"

Evelyn cringed slightly at the mention of zombies. "The anatomical errors in zombie culture frighten me. I got into an argument once with this guy at the mall over it. Clearly he didn't understand what the small intestine is supposed to look like. And there was no way that guys spine could bend that way and still support the rest of his body, undead or not. Physics." She stopped herself from rambling about it too much though, and fished in her pocket for an elastic band. She planned on keeping her hair down, but at least knowing she had one with her was reassuring. She slipped it over her wrist and nodded slightly at the whole 'dying' remark.
"Considering I'd have to relive it again, not dying would be preferable..." She admitted. She already had to deal with the rather painful Playbacks dealing with WereCat. She didn't need more terrifying things in her head.
Maya's compliment took her by surprise and she blushed slightly, then gave a grin. "You look nice too. Definitely not a dead body." Then they were looking at the T.V., and Evelyn fidgeted a little. She quickly ran through the show in her head, making sure there wasn't anything she needed to look out for in this particular episode. She could probably freak the characters out knowing their lines for the first few moments, but then the fun would wear off as soon as their influence on the movie took place. At least, she sort of expected that would happen. She wasn't really sure what would happen once they got into the movie. She had only gone through mirrors so far...
"I think I'm ready... not sure how prepared you can really be when you're about to walk into a movie though..." She mused, and pushed her hair from her face a little. The echoes wandered the room while they waited, and started commenting on the televisions make and model, trying to guess what year the electronics were.
Maya chuckled at the zombie rant. That was one of the many reasons spending time with Evelyn was never boring. Amusing, annoying, occasionally frustrating - but never boring.
>>"You look nice too. Definitely not a dead body."
Definitely not. Maya tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear. She had recently cut her hair after it got out of control during the riots, so it was back to its usual length, just past her shoulders.
"Thanks."
>>"I think I'm ready... not sure how prepared you can really be when you're about to talk into a movie though..."
"It's gonna be fun." she smiled, as the episode started to play, and she held out a hand to her "I'm right here. Let's go."

It was Series 1, Episode two. The student Evelyn had borrowed the disks from had lost the first episode, which was probably just as well. Walking into Watson's war memories would probably not be the most enjoyable experience, and at least The Blind Banker started calmly enough: a tea demonstration in the National Antiquities Museum. The room echoes slightly, the floors mostly empty, the ceilings high and the displays spaced out a bit more than some of the ones at the MET. Everything felt fairly real, and she could almost smell the tea on the other end of the room. Even the echoes thought it was real, quickly taking assessment of the objects around them.
"This...is weird..." She said in a soft voice, letting go of Maya's hand and looking around. Knowing the show, they wouldn't have too long before the next scene change. The man on the other end of the room would ask the girl out on a date, then it was onto the dramatic scene wandering through the museum in the dark. Because that always goes well in real life too. Real life... this was still real life, in an odd, warped, cinematic mutation twisted way. "Almost feels like work. But quieter." She smirked, wandering closer to one of the displays and gazing at it. She could pinpoint the object in her mind from the show, but it was weird wandering around it. The scene shifted, and then they were in the back rooms, the lighting dark and spooky noises echoing down the hallway. She chuckled quietly and put her hands behind her head.
"Yup, exactly like work. Fun thing about the Echoes is at least they can identify things like moaning pipes compared to things like footsteps...at least it's not as scary then..." The woman this part of the show followed was looking at something hidden under a cloth. It felt strange seeing her actions from a new angle, somewhat anticlimactic without her terrified facial expressions. It felt even sillier when the title sequence hit and the museum was whisked away. "Wait, what's going to happen when we hit the next scene? Are were going to be in the supermarket or with the assassin guy because--"
Scene change. She was hoping supermarket. As eager as she was to meet Mr. Holmes, trying to talk with him while he was battling a sword wielding attacker probably wouldn't be the most convenient thing.
Maya smiled at Evelyn's excitement, and for once was very happy to have such a nifty mutation. Walking into movies, from an evolutionary standpoint, equaled completely useless, but boy was it fun.
>>"This...is weird...Almost feels like work. But quieter... Yup, exactly like work. Fun thing about the Echoes is at least they can identify things like moaning pipes compared to things like footsteps...at least it's not as scary then..."
"Wow" the mirrorwalker blinked, once more utterly surprised "I... didn't even think about that. You would be, like, the only person in a horror movie who's not being stupid. I mean, if you went into a horror movie. Which we shouldn't, trust me."
Maybe those echoes were more useful than one would think.
>>"Wait, what's going to happen when we hit the next scene? Are were going to be in the supermarket or with the assassin guy because--"
"To tell the truth, I've never watched this show" Maya admitted as the scene shifted to the grocery store. "But I'm sure it's easy to handl... Get down!"
Grabbing Eve by the shoulder she spun her out of the way just in time for some madman to miss them by inches with a swinging sword.
"What the actual..."
Grocery store. Maya stared at Eve, bewildered. And at a loss of words.

Evelyn tilted her head in confusion momentarily, then the echoes scrambled through what information they had on horror movies. She slowly nodded, then laughed, somewhat delayed, but better late then never. "Well, I'm glad we're not in a horror movie, whether I would be stupid in one or not. The echoes are good at identifying danger, not necessarily getting out of it."
They settled into the grocery store, where Watson was dealing with the uncooperative scanner. She felt relieved for a moment when the scene changed again, and Maya jerked her out of the way as the sword sailed past. There was Sherlock Holmes alright, but it seemed like an awful time to be introduced. The echoes tried to orient themselves in the apartment, but then they were back in the grocery store and she was scrambling through her memories of what the next scene would look like.
"Stay towards the wall next scene change, they're fighting at the table--" She warned quickly, and quickly followed her own advice when she felt the next transition. It lasted only a few moments before Watson's troubles with the scanner came back again. The echoes were having trouble keeping up, focusing their efforts on bringing up the necessary memories from the film. "And duck!" She squeaked, dragging Maya from the wayward sword swing and rethinking her choice in episodes. A solid punch knocked the man into the couch, not to far from where they ended up standing, and then the scene was calm again. Evelyn breathed a slight sigh of relief.
"Good news, it should be calm now for another... 2 minutes and 24ish seconds..." She straightened up, smoothing out her shirt in a manner similar to the detective in front of them. She waited until they transitioned, and Sherlock was relaxing on his chair, and Evelyn casually snuck around behind the man, trying to see what he was reading.
"I don't think hovering is a manner particularly becoming for a young woman such as yourself." He casually remarked, turning the page without glancing back. He shut the book and drummed his thumbs against the leather as footsteps sounded on the stairs. "Then again, letting oneself into the apartment of a stranger is generally disagreeable behavior as well, wouldn't you agree?"
Evelyn cheeks colored, but then she tilted her chin up stubbornly, ignoring the rather bewildered Watson who happened to stumble into the scene. "I apologize, Mr. Holmes, I didn't want to interrupt your all to important work." She casually kicked the sword under his chair, and scooted back to the side before the surprise could register on his face.
Maya ducked as told and tried her best to keep the both of them from dying an unnecessary death on the big screen. It was not easy to do so.
>>"Good news, it should be calm now for another... 2 minutes and 24ish seconds..."
"When did detective movies get so violent?!" Maya gasped, leaning back against a bookshelf. Suddenly an hour with Sherlock Holmes seemed like an eternity.
>>"I don't think hovering is a manner particularly becoming for a young woman such as yourself. Then again, letting oneself into the apartment of a stranger is generally disagreeable behavior as well, wouldn't you agree?"
The mirrorwalker's jaw dropped in an expression of utter disbelief.
"Did he just..."
>>"I apologize, Mr. Holmes, I didn't want to interrupt your all to important work."
"Did you just..."
It was too much to explain right now, but Maya had a good reason to be stunned: her powers with movies had been... kind of tough to handle. Usually it took major effort and some radical changes for the main characters to even notice she existed. Maybe it had something to with the echoes?...

Maya's bewildered expression made Evelyn tilt her head to the side, and she chuckled slightly, shaking her head. "I think they've always been a bit on the violent side, Maya. What's a good mystery without a good chase scene, a stand off a... oh, then there's that..." Her mind flicked ahead to one of the end scenes and she pushed the thought aside. They'd cross that bridge when they came to it. "Anyway, the key is outwitting ones opponent; when other's use brawn, you use your brain. Just, stay close and shouldn't be anything to worry about."
Shouldn't... deadly Chinese warriors and swords should be nothing for an x-man, right?
Then the detective shifted, and greeted Watson for a moment, before murmuring under his breathe. "Well, if you're going to insist on being here, make yourself useful. Put that away, would you?" The detective startled her by shoving the book in her hands as Watson started into his grocery store 'row' rant. Oddly enough, Watson's behavior seemed to go much in line with the rest of the show, and he fumed about not getting groceries while Sherlock calmly ignored him. While the detective seemed to have acknowledge them, Watson seemed somewhat oblivious to the events around him.
She glanced at Maya. The echoes were quite certain that this behavior was somewhat peculiar for one of these movie-jumping experiences. She set the book on the shelf then tugged on Maya's arm, "Flashback." Sword swinging, danger passed and they were back at the bookshelf. The next flashback would only be Sherlock punching the guy, which wouldn't be a problem where they were. It was probably a good thing Evelyn watched this show once before. Without the echoes, it seemed like it would be a very difficult show to survive.
"Maybe he's just perceptive. Doesn't take as long to notice things." Evelyn said, responding to Maya's body language rather than anything she might have been considering saying.
"Of course I'm perceptive. My dear, I'm Sherlock Holmes." Remarked the figure in the chair. She rolled her eyes, and scanned the book titles, curious what a detective in a movie would read.
>>"I think they've always been a bit on the violent side, Maya. What's a good mystery without a good chase scene, a stand off a... oh, then there's that... Anyway, the key is outwitting ones opponent; when other's use brawn, you use your brain. Just, stay close and shouldn't be anything to worry about."
Maya waved at Watson who seemed to ignore her for the moment, and really hoped that it was not going to turn into a car chase. She hated car chases, even in movies. Wouldn't want to be in one.
"Right."
>>"Maybe he's just perceptive. Doesn't take as long to notice things."
>>"Of course I'm perceptive. My dear, I'm Sherlock Holmes."
Maya chuckled and stayed close to Evelyn in case of more violent flashbacks. When she turned to the bookshelf, she poked her in the ribs.
"Hey, we came here to talk to him, right?" she stage-whispered "Then go on, talk to him."
She had to admit, watching Evelyn meet Sherlock was amusing, on either side of the screen.
