The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Allison had missed parks. Not that it had been particularly long since she'd been in one, but still. They were nice, and she hadn't been as recently as she'd like. Besides, the weather was nice today; it was actual summer weather. Which meant she could finally get away with not wearing a jacket.
...And with scandalizing everyone else in the park. Allison's pants weren't too tight, but the shirt was definitely smaller than it ought to be, and it wasn't yet very obvious why, so it looked like she just bought clothes so that they'd be skintight. And then she also had white skin, substantial hair roots also growing out white, and tattoos climbing up her arms and twisting out from her eyes.
Okay, so maybe the clothes weren't the only reason she kept attracting shocked and offended looks.
Either way, Allison was fairly used to attracting those looks, so she ignored them while she leaned against a tree. Climbing the tree was tempting... but probably not a good idea. So she settled for leaning against the trunk and staring at the leaves.

It was Evelyn's first day back to work after the riots ended, and the museum had seen better days. There weren't many ruined art pieces, thankfully, but plenty of broken displays and windows. The 'Closed for Cleaning' sign on the front doors seemed like a minor band-aid for the time being, as Evelyn wandered from room to room sweeping and trying to do what she could. The security guard who had attacked her was fired, and a few of the regular staff had quit due to the chaos. So short handed, everyone pitched in. Floor were cleaned, glass was removed, and then they were sent home until repairs could be made to the front doors. Exhausted, Evelyn started off towards her apartment, and got halfway across the park before she realized she wasn't staying there right now. Turning slowly in a circle, she debated what to do, and then she noticed the girl leaning on the tree trunk next to her.
Slowing, Evelyn paused and her expression grew more curious. The face registered in her mind, but she couldn't place it right away. The echoes started to skim for a name, but it would take a little bit for it to click. "I've seen you before...but your tattoos have moved..." She remarked slowly.
Allison blinked, turned her head, and considered the girl who'd spoken. She... did not look familiar. So either she'd seen Allison in a magazine or on TV (or on that book cover, and Allison still didn't know how that existed), or Allison had just forgotten her. Or she did remember her, but when they'd met before the girl had been dressed differently enough to throw Allison off now. All three were possibilities; Allison wasn't very good with faces.
Oh well. Either way. Allison was a bit bored, and anyway there was no reason not to answer, seeing as the girl hadn't been rude at all. "New ones, actually. I replace them fairly often." Which used to mean every day, but now was ending up closer to twice a week.

The surprise flickered across the girl's face, and it was evident she did not remember Evelyn. Not that it came as much of a surprise really. Evelyn had never formally met her, but she had seen the face a few times in magazines and then walking around. However, she was fairly certain some of the tattoos on this individual had disappeared, which didn't suggest she got new ones. [Mutation] Confirmed her echoes, and Evelyn gave a nod of her head.
"Don't worry, we haven't met. I just have a good memory. Seems like a fun mutation." She pushed her hair from her face and glanced across the park, still trying to decide which way to go. The mansion seemed logical, but she still hesitated acting like that was 'home'.
...Okay, this was an odd girl. Allison blinked. Most people did not openly talk about mutations. At least, not unless they were in the Sanctuary, or presumably some similarly mutant-friendly place. Which the middle of a park was distinctly not.
Allison's leg twitched. (Bang.)
Yeah. Parks weren't mutant friendly at all. Allison smiled anyway; this girl apparently was mutant friendly. "It can be." It could also be a number of other things, but those weren't best discussed with strangers.
"So, you have a mutation, then?" Allison couldn't see anything obvious about her, but then Allison hadn't been obvious... and still wasn't, really, once she took the tattoos off. And not many non-mutants felt comfortable talking about mutations; even if they weren't prejudiced, they still expected it to be a huge, dramatic subject. So, casual questions probably meant the girl had a mutation.

The echoes coming off the girl were seeped with surprise, but it wasn't really fearful. That was a first. Sometimes, picking up on a fellow mutant had a negative reaction, and Evelyn was pretty gifted in the 'offend' people area of life. It kept her in place for a moment as she studied the stranger, and smiled slightly at the returned question.
"Perhaps. My abilities aren't really your typical neon light 'mutation' skills, but maybe they aren't normal..." She gave a little shrug of her shoulders, and paused, echoes getting distracted. The girl's shirt, stomach... she tucked that away, deciding it was probably not the best way to start a conversation. She pushed a lock of hair from her face. "I'm sorry, I'm being rude. I'm Evelyn, I just work at the museum. Well, sort of. I guess we're kind of closed right now." She trailed off a little.
Perhaps. So... the girl wasn't comfortable with being a mutant, or she had always had a subtle mutation. Which it was Allison had no real idea; her mutation had never really been mistakable for anything but what it was, even though it had taken her a while to figure out the details of it. Well, either way it didn't really matter to Allison. "What are your abilities?"
"Oh, it's fine." Allison waved off the apology, then after a second waved at the ground. "I'm Allison." Though, the girl might have already known that... well, too late. It was polite, anyway. "And you should sit. Which museum do you work at?"

What are your abilities? The question rang in Evelyn's head and she suppressed a smile. At least she wasn't the only blunt one right now. Allison got right to the point. She accepted the invitation to sit, and plopped down next to the tattooed female.
"I'm observant. Not really much of a super power, since a lot of humans can do it. But it has it's uses. On a good day, I can identify a counterfeit painting or organize the art collections. On other days I can identify someone with migrating tattoos." She smiled slightly, and nodded towards the museum off in the distance. "I work at the MET, it's just on the other side of the park. It's nice, two stories, keeps me busy."
Allison laughed. Migrating tattoos. Most people just identified her by the fact that she had tattoos, but migrating worked too. "It'd be useful a lot more than many, I suspect. Not too many situations where throwing fireballs is useful... and legal, anyway." The same applied to ink, of course, but Allison didn't really want to encourage anyone to start thinking about the illegal uses of her ability. Especially not someone who was superhumanly intelligent, even if so far she'd only mentioned observant.
"Cool. I've never worked in a museum, but I bet it'd be fun." Depending on the museum, anyway. Some would certainly be more interesting than others. Allison was pretty sure she'd heard about a Museum of Knitting at some point; that was one that she definitely wouldn't enjoy....

Evelyn shook her head from side to side, the smile crawling across her mouth momentarily. The image of a mutant trying to work at a library with his hands catching every book on fire migrated through her imagination, and she was suddenly glad she didn't have to deal with problems like that. "Throwing fireballs would likely only be useful in a circus setting without any negative consequences. But I've seen worse powers. They make me feel... tame..." Even if she was incurably nosy. Most people seemed to agree she was someone who shouldn't be left by themselves for too long.
"The museum has been nice to work at, although the riots destroyed a few things... And since I couldn't talk people out of the place, there was little to really do about it." She glanced at the woman next to her, watching her facial expressions. There was something about her that seemed... rebellious. Beyond the tattoos, that was. It reflected the manners she had seen in individuals that frequented another mutant haven, and she started to wonder if she was talking to someone from the 'other' side of the tracks. Last time she did that, she ended up kidnapped. She would have to be a little more careful this time around.
"Yeah. And there are some that aren't ever useful. I met a guy once whose mutation forced him to keep every promise he made... and twisted his mind to make him, I think. And someone whose mood was controlled by what she smelled...." And she really ought to get back in contact with both of them. Especially Emily. She didn't remember either of their phone numbers, though. Maybe she could find Emily online....
Allison wrinkled her nose at that. "Really? Why would anyone attack a museum?" The riots themselves... well, she ought to object to, and she knew they were a bad thing, but she really didn't regret them. Either way, though, attacking museums was stupid; the buildings were hardly responsible for injustice, and wrecking them or anything in them wouldn't do anything to fix it. "I hope they didn't break anything too important?"

A mutation to keep promises seemed to be a rather risky power to have. She could only imagine what would happen if you accidentally promised the wrong thing... She wondered if it worked with accidental promises, but then the conversation migrated on and she let that idea face. "Having your mood controlled by what you smelled seems like it would get annoying very quickly." She almost said it would probably be a lot like being pregnant, but quickly caught her tongue. At least she was thinking about what she said more. Hopefully she could keep up with it.
In the corner of her eyes she could see the expression of Allison changing, and gave a slight shrug of her shoulders. "Same reason they attacked stores and buildings and people. Different groups used the riots to cause chaos because the cops were busy elsewhere. Nothing valuable was really ruined, but lots of displays were busted when we tried to contain things." She didn't mention she was being dragged through the displays when they were busting behind her. That was one particular day she didn't really need to remember at the moment. Especially considering she was still fairly ticked at Mirror. One second he was being nice to her the next he was chewing her out and bringing other girls to the mansion. Whatever. Men were dumb. Or, women...
"My apartment didn't get quite as lucky though. Still don't know what to do with the place. Deadbolts busted, as is half the furniture. I've never exactly been handy so I've avoided the task. Never thought I'd find the day when work got out and I didn't run straight home." She mused over it and sighed slightly.
"You'd think, only she couldn't be annoyed either unless she smelled something that made her annoyed. It was... kind of sad, really." It might give her the ability to control her moods to be happy all the time--in theory, at least--but even that didn't seem worth it to Allison, to lose the ability to feel things for any reason. Sure the feelings were there, but they meant nothing. But then, Emily couldn't feel bad for that loss without finding the right scent first, either.
"I suppose that is part of riots." Not that Allison had had anything to do with keeping the police busy. At least, she hadn't run into them personally... which was a relief, and made the adventure a bit more risky than she felt totally secure thinking about now. Oh well; nothing had gone wrong, anyway, so she'd just be more careful next time. "Still, a museum seems like an odd place to attack, especially if they weren't trying to steal something valuable. I guess some people just like destruction, though."
Allison could understand that, a little bit. Not enough to do it, herself, she'd feel too bad due to other considerations, but... she could understand.
"Oh. That'd suck." Allison's room had been left completely untouched by the riots, but then, it was in Sanctuary. "Do you know how you'll get it fixed?" And where you're staying? That seemed like an obvious question too, but this late after the riots, Allison figured that Evelyn probably would have figured that out already. Besides, she didn't look like she was lacking a home; her hair was a little less than perfectly neat, but she had referred to just getting off of work. That was more than a sufficient explanation for it.

The more she heard of this power, the less annoying her own abilities seemed to be. Having your emotions completely controlled by smell would just be... well, apparently not annoying, because you could only be annoyed if she smelled the right thing. That just made her brain hurt a bit. The echoes started analyzing the tree bark to avoid thinking about it.
"Sounds confusing." She finally stated, and shook her head to clear the thoughts. "And I think part of their targeting was more personal. One of the guards there had issues with my family, got some buddies and they were more than happy to cause trouble. I figure same people trashed the apartment, but no one was there to stop them so got more out of hand..." She shook her head before Allison finished asking her next question. "No idea how to fix it, maybe I'll hire someone to do it I guess. For now I'm just crashing out at the mansion. Guess it works, but it's hard living with a bunch of people." Considering she hadn't seen the girl there, she figured she most live somewhere else. Sanctuary seemed likely, which could be awkward since the two buildings weren't exactly on friendly terms
"It was. At least, for everyone who knew her." For her... well, she had to smell confusion. At least the mutation wasn't one she'd always had; she understood that other people reacted to events, not just scents.
"Ugh. I'm sorry." In that abstract mannerly way, at least. Allison really didn't know Evelyn enough to be truly sorry. "Is the guard gone, at least?" Arrested... well, was unlikely. The police had been busy elsewhere, after all.
"Oh, really? You are?" Allison sat up a bit more and smiled. "I've been there, but only once and it was a while ago, so I don't know it well. How do you like it?"
