The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

A cold simulated wind blew across the danger room floor, sending countless blades of grass into an ornate dance. Like a hula goddess, or a hula hoop queen, the grass bent, and swayed. Several meters above ground level, other things were dancing on the wind with equal proclivity.
What things, you ask? Well.
Wizards on broomsticks, for one. For two? Starry-eyed Asian men.
Though the wizards far outnumbered the latter. They sat on their broomsticks, clad in red robes, clad in gold. Two teams. The danger room seemed to stretch out farther into the distance than actual space allowed. 400 feet long... 500 feet? Maybe somewhere over 150 feet in width? That was fine, though. Really. The wizards took up most of it. Slipping in and out of the hoops, and wheeling around Shin.
The Asian hung dead center, right in the middle of the field.
A beater in red tapped the bat against his hand as he passed above Shin's gray shard platform. The Asian eyed his dubiously, narrowing his eyes. Suddenly, an iron ball shot past the wizard. It nearly knocked him from his broom. He waved his hands in a semi-circle, and flung himself back down again to catch hold of his stick. Nearby, a rival beater chuckled to himself. Shin blinked at the AI. It was probably glad the iron ball hadn't attacked it.
Violent sport...
A seeker hung in the air, farther above the group. His eyes darted right and left, searching for the goal of the simulation, the Golden Shard.
This was a new Danger Room scenario Shin had programmed himself. Rather than fight the Quidditch players on shard-back, Shin had decided to avoid discomfort. No bludger beatings from him, thank you. They didn't have wizards in this world to fix broken arms... well, aside from Slate and Sebastian and DocProf, but... Shin HARDLY thought those three counted. Cousin-spitting aside, Shin didn't feel like putting Slate in a funny hat. No. He'd sit the funny-hat mission out, or save it for next time. In its stead, he'd control his walnut-sized golden shard. He'd race it around the players, and see if he could keep them from catching it.
Yes, that was far safer.
And didn't force him to learn the rules of Quidditch, a sport he'd never have a chance to play in real life, barring Danger Room simulations to be plotted some time in the future with friends... yes...
The seeker's eyes caught a flash of gold! Shin raked his concentration in, and flew forwards to prep the evasion methods!!

30 feet.
That was the maximum distance at which Shin could control a shard, right here, right now.
30 feet was the distance his shard was from the broom. From the wizard's face, 29. From the wizard's outstretched hand? ... 25. And from the ground?
Not very far at all.
Shin dipped. A gloved hand dropped to grab hold of the shard platform's edge as he buzzed the dancers of grass. His eyes zipzagged back and forth, back and forth across the ground, over white boundary lines, over mud. His coat trailed behind him. His eyes fought valiantly to stay open.
I really should worn goggles, Tetsuya Shinbo realized too late, as the sudden onset of the ground destabilized his platform, and his eyes wobbled shut. The next second, he'd lost his footing. The shard slipped out from under him, Shin's legs dropped the few feet remaining, to the dirt.
Now, flying along at 30 miles per hour is a dangerous thing to do. You speed by, you trail slower than broomsticks, and you're liable to fall off. The one good thing about traveling at 30 miles per hour is this: It's not 45.
So when you fall off, it isn't as severe as, say 40. And it's certainly nowhere near 45. When Shin's shoes hit the ground, they hit the ground running. For one shining second, his wheeling legs and the shard platform still streaking towards the point between seeker and 'shintch' was even. He kept up. Then, mud-soaked footsteps slowed. Shin raked the shintch in, towards his location, and stalled the shard platform in-place.
He doubled over, panting. Above his head, the shintch darted up down left right, any which way to avoid evasion. His eyes were off it. He just imagined the flight path, and hoped. Had to catch his breath, didn't he? Couldn't let the seeker win...
"Pant..." Fingers touch toes. "Pant pant." Stitch in side, now. "Pant pant pant" Shin took one last calming breath, then, he was good. "Okay!!"
The shard shot upwards like a stone from a slingshot. Shin's eyes rose to lock on the broom-rider. He took three loping sprints forwards to hop on his shard platform.
Then he was off again, rising. His coat fluttered grandly in his wake.

And then there were two...
The dive of the first team's seeker hadn't gone unnoticed. If he'd had a habit of schizophrenia (as most wizards don't), or been cursed, that kind of mad drop towards the ground could have been ignored, but nope. None of the Above. The second seeker nudged his goggle-think glasses up the bridge of his hooked nose, and surveyed. Nothing would escape vision now. Not even...
Kakeen~! The beater swung his bat. The bludger barreled wide to the right of the seeker. Hooked nose did a barrel roll. If there were a programmed vernacular for danger room AI swearing, thick-glasses-Harry could have used half a vocabulary's worth right now. Instead, he shook his fist.
Just beyond the duo, players passed the ball. Back and forth, the weaved towards the hoops. One player hurled with all his might. The quaffle cut through the goal.

Okay, so about the 'two'? I lied. The second was about as effective as normal type moves on a ghost. In wizarding terms, he was one ingredient short of snot-flavored jelly beans. His rival, on the other hand? Let's tune back to Seeker and Shin, in their epic battle... of hovering.
Shin hovered eleven feet from the the Seeker. The Seeker hovered eleven feet from Shin... they were in a deadlock. One hand darted up, the golden shintch shot down. One arm shot down, Shin's concentration veered right. Up down, left right, eyes hopped around with more motion than the arrow pad took in the Konami code.
It looked... confusing.
It sounded... like so.
"Hey!"
"No fair!!"
"Quit it!"
"Aww man, don't you ever give up?"
"No."
Then the shard plunged down... The seeker followed. Shin dropped. A bludger passed by overhead, tussling Shin's hair in its wake.

As the wizard came down, Shin formed a wall. Sure, it was contrary to the game they were playing, but this was 'keepaway'. The wizard hit the brakes. His eyes narrowed like the tip of a funnel.
Strange...
He drifted left, eying the wall of green.
For now, the energy of the moment was lost. Shin followed him with his eyes, and shifted on the shard platform. His current position of 'crouched' with hand palm upwards and outstretched' was an uncomfortable one. He pushed off the 'razor tortilla', and got to his feet.
The Seeker rapped three times on the shard wall. Shin shook his head. Nobody home. Behind the wall, the golden Shintch danced. A fist dove into the wall, and reeled back in pain. Bad mistake, Shin smirked.
The wizard rose a few feet dauntingly. If he couldn't get through or around the wall, he'd think in three dimensions. Above or below.
The shard wall rose with him. The golden Shintch zagged giddily through the gap beneath the barrier. It buzzed the Seeker's ear, as if to say 'hello'.
A gloved hand darted for the shard. A bead of sweat rolled down Shin's brow as he forced the evasion. The shard quickly sunk below again. The wizard tried to follow, but was stopped. He encountered wall.
The gold shard floated up to hang by Shin's ear. He frowned. Okay, maybe this was too cheap... the wall vanished, but not before the golden Shintch took its headstart.
Three lights, three lights stared back at him as he frowned slightly in the corner of an enclosed space. He hated small-enclosed spaces, unfortunately it was the elevator or the stairs and seeing as he was having a hunger attack he thought that the elevator would be the best choice despite his claustrophobia. Best way to overcome a fear is to master it after all and the elevator he thought was the first step. However he didn’t take into account that there was someone mean enough to push the remaining buttons in the elevator.
His legs shaking slightly Carrick whimpered in the corner as he tried to breath, the elevator lurched and his legs felt like jelly forcing him to the ground, suddenly stairs seemed like a good idea. His tail wrapped around his leg tightly as his wings were tucked in behind him as tightly as possible. The numbers at the top of the elevator by the door skipped the second floor and the first and went straight to the “B1” as soon as the door let out a ding and the door started to open Carrick dove out and rolled onto the ground outside of the elevator.
He was still new to the mansion but he figured the basement wasn’t anything special so he never bothered to check it out. He however felt that it was time to scope out this new floor and forgo the eating process for another hour or two. Walking down the hallway large metallic doors pulled at his attention, ones that said War room, another said hanger and finally there was a large door that screamed do not enter.
Carrick looked down the three-way intersection of the halls and grinned slightly. What kind of school was this? He heard a few kids around the school mention something of a team of some kind but after reading the War Room sign and the Hanger sign he suddenly wonder what kind of team this was. No one down any of the hallways the basement was completely deserted…
Looking back at the doors that screamed ‘Do not enter’ Carrick took a few steps forward and entered the doors defiantly and blinked very confused about what he had stumbled into.

What he had stumbled into, in fact, was a mud puddle. Quidditch pits were always so dreadfully muddy, after all. All muddled with brown and grime, to the point they changed the color of the balls to better stand out against wet dirt.
Overhead, a glint of gold wheeled. Shin darted hard to the right as the second seeker wobbled invariably after the shard. The first seeker flew like an arrow. Together, they drew a converging path.
Their aim was to close the Shintch in.
One couldn't have that, could we? At the last moment, Shin jerked the golden shard downwards. The two wizards collided in mid-air. In the background, the crowd cheered.
Shard and Shin fluttered downwards. Shin touched the ground with a bow.
He was showing off to nothing. It was getting to be too easy. One almost hoped... something would... happen? Shin had the sudden urge to glance over his shoulder, towards the Danger Room entrance.
He went with it.
A boy stood in the doorway. Tailed. Winged. Young. Shin turned his eyes back to the wizarding game overhead briefly. Cloaks fluttered in the wind as the team in red scored another goal.
"Simulation, end."
The Danger Room cut the game short. Shin turned back towards the young boy. He'd never met him.
Carrick eyed the colors of gold and red then what they were flying on and he smirked, it was a Harry Potter movie! His tail twitched happily as his wings opened and then closed ready for a take off. Were they filming another movie here? What’s more how the hell was the quidditch pitch in the basement of the mansion? He looked around as his current defiance of the big ‘Do Not Enter’ doors seemed to be rewarded with a giant indoor/outside fantasy.
The leggings of the pants he was wearing were starting to get heavier as they soaked up the wet mud he was standing in. Watching the members of both teams fly about chasing their targets, beaters with the bludgers, chasers with the quaffle and then there was the seekers who he couldn’t really pick out till he spotted the golden reflection in the room, a man was chasing it and Carrick’s smile widened.
Watching the red team score he placed his hands behind his back resisting the urge to jump in the game, sure he would have been great at it because unlike the brooms from what he had seen in the movies and read in the books (which were one of the few books he actually read) he had complete control over his flight, and from what he was seeing now he was entertaining the idea of out trying to out maneuver those on the broom sticks.
He didn’t notice one of the people in the pitch to approach him even if he did notice he wasn’t going to escape it seemed the door behind him vanished and was replaced with muddy grass. Carrick looked back to the far taller Asian who was quickly approaching as the game and all around it suddenly vanished and was replaced with a large dome room. ”The Hell!” The muddy grass under is feet vanished to be replaced with a cold metallic feeling, his pant legs still feeling wet on the back of his leg.
He knew it was real, he felt it squish between his toes and the cold air ruffle his feathers on his wings. ”Ugghhh….” Carrick said his jaw hung a jar as he continued to look about the room his back turning to the Asian man once and then twice, ”This isn’t the bathroom!” Carrick said trying to cover up the fact that he probably shouldn’t have been on the movie shoot, the doors did look like they were trying to keep people out, or maybe they were built to keep people in?
”But while I’m here… what was that I just saw?” he asked the guy as his tail swayed behind him illustrating how curious he was.

"Certainly not the bathroom. Danger room, morelike." Shin muttered to himself. He pulled in the golden shard as an afterthought, letting it casually wheel around him as he spoke. "What you just saw was top secret. Most First Years don't learn the truth so soon. Yes. This mansion is Hogwarts. Every wizard's mutation is a charm. I'm one of the teachers here. Call me Bumbly bore... no. Wait. Call me Shin."
The Asian triangle-manipulator smirked at the kid in front of him. Now was not the time for boring truths. Shin would have fun with him, come Hell or house-elf water.
A nod was the response when Shin called this place the “Danger Room” it made sense Sara the cat woman did say that this place did exist in the mansion he just didn’t think she was serious a indoor room that could give him enough room to fly seemed far to good to be true. So he played it off like an exaggeration dismissing the possibility of the mansion having a place so big. However now he regretted thinking that, ”Dangerously big?” Carrick chirped in before Shin continued talking.
Really? Was he serious? Carrick frowned his smile faded away as he looked at Shin with a ‘Not buying this crap’ face and then turned his head, ”Right, Bumble bore…” he chose not to use the name Shin just to be difficult. Jumping into the air and flapping his wings Carrick took to the air and circled Shin for a moment, ”So bull s*** aside, why do they call it the danger room, and why were you watching Harry potter? Aren’t you a little old for that?” he asked not really thinking age had anything to do with liking such an awesome movie.
”How high is this place?” Carrick asked as he flew higher and higher to a little lowered room near the ceiling of the room of danger, ”What’s this room?” Carrick asked as he kept flying higher and higher till he touched the ceiling then rotated his body the way a swimmer makes a turn during a race and then kicked off the wall tucking his wings to his back in the process for a dive. He was a boy full of questions and when ever one was answered he usually had two more to go in it’s place.
Quickly approaching Shin and opening his wings Carrick smirked and said, ”I thought Sara was joking about how big this place was but now I have a place to fly indoors.” flapping once then twice Carrick started to circle Shin.

Shin laughed at the winged boy's bulls*it comment. "You, sir, are a tenacious one, to continue believing the lie, even as the lines of the matrix stream by hypnotically around you. Were this to be anything more than a-- HEY!!" The golden shard vanished furiously as, not satisfied with asking a single question, and too hyperactive to wait patiently for the bevy of answers, Carrick rose to buzz the tower on the second level. Kids...
Not one to turn down a challenge (and this, ladies and gentlemen, was a challenge of his boundless patience), Shin focused his mind on the act of drumming up another platform. He was just about to take flight, had his leg raised and everything, when the child plummeted from heaven, to fly circles around him. Okay, now that was definitely a challenge. It was on!
But first...
"Okay, okay. You got me. This isn't a wizarding school. It isn't The Matrix... This room is a special training area for an elite team of superheroes, set on saving the world, and the whole school is a front for it, inspired by the plottings of an immense, and dangerous telepath who can read thoughts from halfway around the world. He can see you when you're sleeping. He knows when you're awake... you really shouldn't be down here, kid, so be good, for goodness sake! What's your name, anyways... I need it for the Detention slip..." Shin jokingly waggled his eyebrows, and jutted his lower lip. It was doubtful the kid would believe his stories. Just as doubtful as he'd believe his truths... But the kid had said he knew 'Sara'. That's 'a Sara'. Whether or not it was his werecat was still up for debate...
"So, you say you know Sara, huh... which Sara?" Shin held his chin.
”Tenacious or not at least I’m not a liar,” Carrick said as he ignored the matrix comment knowing full well that it was just a movie, an awesome movie but a movie nonetheless. Carrick watched as the a little gold bit vanished into thin air and chalked it up to another sort of danger room trick. Carrick kept circling Shin; even tough he was now threatening him with a detention and some more bull about a team of super heroes fighting old Saint Nick.
”Bout time Saint Nick snapped, all those years of trading mil and cookies for awesome trinkets and such, I always thought he had a screw loose.” Carrick smirked and landed on the ground and cleared his throat ”Why would I tell you my name if you were just going to punish me? Not much incentive for me to tell you is it?” he paused and shrugged, ”Though it doesn’t really matter anyways, not like I’d go to detention, got to be in class to get a detention right?”
Carrick smirked as his tail twitched behind him, ”Griffin, My name is Griffin.” Carrick lied as he looked back to the ceiling of the room still impressed how large it was. No there was no way Carrick would reveal his true name if he was just going to get reprimanded for something stupid. ”Why would you give me a detention anyways? Not like I did something wrong…” Carrick couldn’t tell if the Asian was serious or not, to be honest if he was joking it would be something they both have in common.
”She’d be hard to miss, looks like a giant cat, she came to see my show back when I was in the circus, she chased me for a while then rode me here…” Carrick said regretting his use of rode, the less people knew about his other form the less people would ask for a ride or try to steal one.

"Saint Nick? What. No! I'm talking about Charles Xav... nevermind..." Shin sighed. This whole thing had gotten off on the wrong foot. He shook his head at the boy's comment. "I'm not giving you detention... you haven't done anything wrong yet..." From the way he was talking, it sounded like it was only a matter of time, though. This kid...
>>”Griffin, My name is Griffin.”
". . . Merv... Griffin?" Shin's eyebrow quirked. Very well. From now on, this kid was named Merv.
And, yes. Cat lady. So, they were talking about the same 'Sara'. And, wait a minute... rode?
"She rode you..." Shin stared at him disbelievingly. "Like, in the air. Neato. Listen, Mervin. I think we got off on the wrong foot. My name is Tetsuya Shinbo. I'm not a teacher here. I'm just the mansion greeter. This is a greeting. So, hey." With that, he boarded his shard platform, and hovered 6 feet in the air. Staring down at him, Shin smirked. "Guess we can both fly. Want to have a little contest?"
A blink was all he could get; his name wasn’t Mervin… how did he get that anyways… Carrick blinked again and shook his head, ”My name isn’t Mervin, and it’s Carri… Griffin…” Carrick shook his head again getting caught up in his own lie, ”My name is Carrick, just as long as you’re not a teacher who is trying to give me a detention. If you are my name is Griffin,” though if he was going by a fake name he guess a Mervin could of worked, it just didn’t sound that good.
Carrick smirked and nodded his head, ”Tetsuya it is then” Carrick said as he watched the Asian take to the air on a platform of little triangles put together. ”She did get a ride but from my other trick…” he continued to elude the fact that he had a shifted form that could allow people to experience a bareback flight.
Carrick’s tail twitched behind him signaling he was taking to the air. Legs bent and wings spread open as he jumped into the air. ”What you do isn’t flying, your legs are still on a solid surface…” he said with a smug grin knowing that Tetsuya could never experience the same flight as him.
”Your more of a surfer, but your in the air non the less so a contest is it? What kind of contest would you like to have?” Carrick asked his wings flapping behind him as his arms crossed followed by his legs crossing. He was sitting Indian style while still in the air still showing off that he could fly, even if his showboating ways weren’t intentional.

Carrie? Like, the horror chick with the pig's blood? This guy looked like a 'he'. Could he be a her? Though, in that case, he was lucky his name wasn't Kathy. Get it? Kathy Griffin? Oh, but her name was Cathy Griffith, wasn't it? Celebrities...
But, hey. The kid came clean with his true name, making everything clearer. Carrick...
"Nice name," Shin smirked. He had to give the kid credit for his moxie (even if he was using it to ditch class...). He reminded him of himself at a young age, sans the big sister bodyguard and the bullying. Righteous individualism and a 'do-it-my-way' attitude of spunk.
Other trick, huh? Speaking of 'spunk'. Shin grinned at Carrick's comment. "Still better than an airplane or a jetpack. Riding on my own mind..."
"As for the contest... hmm. It's more of a challenge, less of a contest. I'll summon one of my rszor-sharp triangular barriers. It'll be gold." At this, Shin summoned it up. It floated over to land on its side, flush against his shoulder like a bird. "I'll make it fly along. You chase it. If you can't catch it before the danger room's five minute timer goes off, I win. Danger Room, set a five minute timer. Start the count on my signal," Shin announced. The danger room spoke its compliance. Shin smiled at Carrick. "You game?"
