The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Arianwen had taken to the underground after the end of the world began, hiding from the chaos in the shadows that quickly became her home. She could even remove her goggles down here sometimes, which she did while she was hunting such as now. With them pushed onto the top of her head and her beat-up but still functional headphones hanging around her neck she was vulnerable to loud noises and any sudden bright lights. But conversely she could also catch the sound of anyone or anything approaching long before it reached her. So when she heard the breathing of men standing guard over something ahead of her she paused. Lowering her bow for a moment she pulled her goggles over her eyes and situated her headphones before continuing, arrow drawn and she crept through the tunnels until she could see light ahead. She stepped out into it, wary and tense as she looked to see what she was encountering. She was met with the three guards lifting their guns and pointing them at her while she stood there with her bow drawn but lowered.
"I'm not looking to harm anyone." She told them. Her voice was low and hoarse, very different from the lilting tones it had taken before all of this had happened. Then again, she didn't talk much these days. And she'd probably damaged her vocal chords a little all that time ago when she'd been lost in rage and grief and screaming before taking them all out. But those days were behind her, even if she couldn't forget the feel of her in her arms, the blood staining her coat. She shook off the memories to size up the men while one of them muttered something into a radio while the others stepped forward slightly. She raised her bow at that, silently warning them to back up.
Disturbances were a daily thing in the city of Haven, With guards stationed at all of the entrances it was no surprise that Emerald would often get reports of things going on. Most of the time, the guards were overacting but she would much rather them overreact to situations that under react.
Since the Establishment of Haven, the people of the city had relied on her for their safety along with the guards and the members of the council. The grizzled werewolf was planning on keeping things that way so when she heard of the mild disturbances elsewhere but someone with a weapon near one of the underground entrance, she figured it would be a good time to act. The good thing was that she didn't have more important things to take care of so this time she was able to handle the matter herself.
The wolf girl slid on her combat boots and her military fatigues, things given to her by one of her higher ranking guardsman. He was a retired war veteran, having served during Operation desert storm all those years ago. He knew more about combat than most of her guardsman and he was usually the one that was in charge of training the troops. His name was Simon Stevenson, but he was known to most as Sarge.
Sarge was stationed in the underground entrance today, the tunnels were sometimes the most dangerous places to be in haven. Many people thought they could attack the city through the tunnels, taking them by surprise, however, as many attackers could attest to, every attempt at a underground tunnel attack in Haven had ended rather tragically.
For the other attackers that is.
The wolf girl made her way out to the southern tunnel entrance, Great sword slung over her shoulder, body read to fight if need be. Once she made her way out to the fairly well lit entrance she was able to see the problem. The younger girl, just around Ruby's age was pointing weapon at her men, most likely out of fear, but she couldn't know that for sure. Emerald made her way down the steps and to the main entrance where her men stood, including Sarge, his ebony skin and scarred face glaring down at the young girl. Sarge didn't have a lot of patience for those who aimed weapons at his men, which was likely why he was giving the other girl a death glare. What he did have respect for Emerald that while at times annoyed her, was sort of touching in a way. He acted as sort of a father figure to her and Ruby, sort of giving them good advice when needed. Not only that be more often than not, he would side with Emerald in the council meetings.
With cool blue eyes the werewolf looked to the girl who was aiming the bow towards her men.
“Stand down, you're obviously outnumbered. But we aren't here to hurt you. We are just protecting our own.” Emerald ordered, her normal air of authority emenating from her.
She and the guards had participated in a tense stand-off while waiting for whoever they'd radioed. When the older girl arrived she looked her over, eyes narrowed slightly.
"I didn't mean any trouble. Was just exploring." She said with a shrug, lowering her bow a little more and relaxing her pull so that it was no longer drawn. But she didn't put away the arrow as she looked over the group of them. The large, dark man seemed to greatly dislike her already she gave him a small smirk just because she could. She was definitely not the quiet, shy archer she'd been when she'd first left home. In her place was a bitter, angry, snarky huntress with no compunctions against killing if she had to.
The werewolf took in several moments to take in the girls appearance and her attitude. She seemed to be filled with that immature spunk that so many younger survivors seemed to have. The sort of spunk that just screamed prior to this she didn't know much about the world around her.
Sarge gave Emerald a look when that snide smirk came to her and she gave one to him as well. She knew he wasn't pleased with this development and quite frankly neither was she, but they would remain civil until need be. Sarge gave the men an order and they pointed their guns downward, not full disarming themselves yet ether.
"That's fine, but if you are intending to explore, go somewhere else. This isn't the exploring part of the tunnels." Emerald responded and crossed her arms over her chest. The redheaded werewolf wasn't in the mood for any sort of sass, she really wasn't.
Arianwen eyed the older mutant thoughtfully, head tilted slightly to the side.
"And if I were to ask for shelter?" She asked coolly. If this entire place was underground then she might have found a place she could settle. Plus, she had skills that she knew could be useful. As a tracker and a hunter. As a show of good faith she removed the arrow from her bow and stashed it in the quiver on her back, eyes assessing how fast she might be able to redraw it.
It was amazing how much people changed when their own survival was involved. This girl seemed to suddenly take on a whole new tune when she realized that there was a potential she could be safe here. Haven was a safe haven for people, but it was for people who followed the rules and for people who respected authority.
Emerald had to sacrifice a lot to build this place and keep it running the way it did, so in her mind the leas that people could do was to give her a little respect. At this point in time, she didn't care all of what you had gone through, but you have to respect the rules of this place or you weren't welcome.
"Then you work for it, almost no one here gets a free ride. Nor disrespects leadership," Emerald replied sternly. "If you want Shelter here, you live and breathe for the community and help in any way you can."
Arianwen inclined her head in acknowledgment, never have expected a free ride from anyone in her life. She was intimately familiar with the unspoken rules of fair trade. To show she was even more willing to speak she quickly broke down her collapsible bow and stowed it away in her quiver with her arrows.
"Yeah, I get that. So do we talk or do I just follow you?" She asked, being as respectful as she was capable of after spending so much time alone. She definitely wasn't the silent, aloof child she'd been the last time she'd tried to join a strange place that offered safety for her. But she was keeping most of her attitude in check. She absently cracked her long, glove-covered fingers; they'd gotten a little stiff from her long grip on her bow. Then she adjusted her goggles a bit and stepped forward so that she was fully in the light the guards were using, head tilted slightly to one side as she looked the group of them over. They seemed well-fed, where as under her layers of black cloth she had not a single ounce of extra weight. Even with her muscles she was underweight from being forced to scavenge under ground since the disaster.
The girl seemed to be learning, this much was good, she needed to learn to respect those that were higher ranking than her if she lived in Haven. While Haven did run on a relatively free system, the members of the council made all of the important decisions as well as being treated with respect. Emerald was not only just a council member, she was a founding member of Haven and as much as she hated to admit it, she was one of the reasons many people were alive now in this city. Because of this, Emerald was treated with a wide amount of respect among the people.
"We walk to the gate and you wait, I'm not planning on letting you into my city without getting to know a lot more about you. After I talk to you, you will get scanned and all of your belongings will be searched at the check out gate." Emerald replied as she crossed her arms over her chest. "I will walk you over to the gate though,"
Emerald started to walk, beckoning the younger girl to follow and once she did, she began asking her questions. "How have you been surviving out here by youself? Is there anyone who knows about you and are there others in any sort of group you run?"
