The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

He looked good in blue.
It had been several weeks before he'd gotten someone to consider his case about doing MRC work. It really was a unique case, too. Since he was an X-man, he had that going for him. He'd hated using it as a means to an end, but he'd wanted to help Cervantes and Drake... even if they might not have wanted his help in just that way. But help was help.
They'd assigned Shin a detective to help him out, partner with him, and get him situated. He'd wanted Cervantes, buuuuut... they'd told him he'd have to talk with Cervantes about that himself. For now, Detective Raz Schafer would have to do. Or he would have. If he'd shown up on time for his tour.
Shin stared at the secretary. Then the clock. Then looked to the secretary again, hopefully. "He here yet...?" He queried.
"Sorry, kid." She said. "He got called away for a case. I can fish up another officer to help show you around, though."
"Oh." Shin said. He let that sit for a second. "I'd hate to be a burden."
"Burden Scmurden. I'll get an intern to show you around. They're good for something, at least. Hold on." She cradled the phone against her shoulder and cheek. On the other end of the line, someone picked up. "Hey, Archer. Got a new intern out front. Can you show him around for me? Schafer suddenly got distracted by lake monsters and psychic creatures in the woods."

Bleh. Quin hated having to do grunt work. She'd been an intern for almost a year now. That was half her tenure done! Halfway to getting her shield! Surely there was someone else more qualified for the duties associated with snagging a new intern and showing them around MRC. Like someone who'd been there less time than Quin. Still, up she got from her desk and out she went to the reception desk.
The day got worse when she saw who it was she was supposed to be showing around. It was that Asian kid who was apparently also an X-Man who was apparently also playing at being a cop.
"So where's the intern?" Quin said, making a point to look past the guy in his blues.
The secretary gave Quin a look. Man. Had she been that obvious? "He's right here. Now get out of my sight or I'll call you for every newbie who shows up."
Quin grumbled just a little bit before sighing and jerking her head back towards the ocean of desks.

>>"So where's the intern?"
Ouch. Shin literally clutched at his heart like he'd been hurt.
That secretary. Was a goddess. Not Kealey-Tier, but then... note to self: Kealey-themed Kealey-Tier hoodie. Look into it.
He distracted himself by actually paying attention to the lady again, instead of contemplating that or feeling sorry for himself. Yeah, maybe he'd felt like he could have been a burden twelve seconds ago, but now? Something about the way she was treating him and had treated him before made him feel like apologizing for being a weight got nothing accomplished. And he knew that some people responded better to results.
"I'll try," He smiled. Then added. "Been a while, hasn't it lady? Thanks for the assist back at the park." ... Although she never had given him any real gun lessons.

He was thanking her for the assist at the park? The nerve.
"Thanks for not getting killed or blowing up any buildings. Those things tend to make the department look bad." She said, voice just scathing enough that she got her point across without angering the secretary further.
They were into the desks now, and Quin couldn't help but smile a little at the bustle of the general work area. Pretty much everywhere a person looked they could see something going on, and what was starting to look like a forest of pencils stuck into the ceiling. Yeah. She'd started that trend. The Captain hadn't complained, and it had caught on with some of the vets.
"This is pretty much where all the magic happens." the redhead said, looking over the whole thing with pride.

"Well, I try." He shrugged.
Shin's eyes skimmed the desks and ceilings as they walked on and on. If she had added any more scathing retorts, he'd missed them. He was too busy calculating the diameter of the room.
"Are those pencils?" He pointed. Shin didn't miss a thing. Except scathing retorts. Yeah.

Meh. He was taking it all far too in stride. That was fine, Quin had plenty more where the current level of derision had come from. She wasn't going to let up either. No way, no how. He would know, no matter what it took, exactly what she thought of him being there.
"Yeah. Pencils." she confirmed. He didn't need to know more than that.
"Coffee room is through here." she said then, and led the way to the coffee room. There she stopped.
"This is the real brains of the whole operation."
Quin had a question, and even if she wasn't sure she actually wanted the answer, she was going to ask.
"So, how long have you been on the force?" she said casually.

The briskness got him thinking. Actually, it didn't. It just solidified thoughts he'd already thought. He'd gotten the sense earlier that she didn't like him, and it was looking truer and truer as the moments whipped by.
From desks to coffee room, brains, stop.
That was a loaded question, if ever he'd heard one.
"Not long," He said. "Look. Do you hate me? Because I'm getting that from how you've treated me, now and in the past." It wasn't a hostile tone. It was downright conversational. He wouldn't be hurt if she hated him. Okay. Maybe he would. But at least he'd know.

If there was one thing Quin hadn't been expecting, it was the direct question that the rookie asked.
Did she hate him?
The question gave the redhead pause and as she tried to decide how to answer she crossed her arms across her stomach. Did she hate him? The truth was...her feelings were anything but friendly, but hate wasn't really a word she wanted in her vocabulary.
He wanted honesty? Fine. For the first time, Quin locked eyes with the new recruit.
"Four years of college to get a criminal justice degree, two years on the beat, writing traffic tickets, breaking up domestic disputes, and cleaning up after the X-Men and every other jerk-off vigilante in New York. All that and I'm just now getting a foot in the door at MRC." she said, not bothering to try to hide the bitter note in her voice.
"I've practiced for hours...probably days at the range, I ran the obstacle course about a million times, and I kissed every ass from Queens to Manhattan just to get the chance."
She paused to let it sink in.
"So, I ask you again. How long have you been with the force? Answer that and then ask me what my problem is."
She shook her head.
"Do I hate you? I don't know you personally...but everything you stand for standing here pisses me off a whole lot."

"That's why I joined the force," Shin stated understandingly. "Because working as an X-man liaison with the police, having an 'honorary' badge, and popping onto the scene whenever it suited me didn't really foster good feelings between me and the officers I was helping. I thought the situation might improve if I earned their respect. And it was a lot of work doing police academy, but I figured that would be the number one way to improve the situation. I want X-men-Police relations to improve, and... I want to help people. I picked MRC because I figured that was the place I could best help. Not because I want to be a detective, or some hotshot. I just didn't think my background working with the X-men would be much use giving out parking tickets. I probably could have worked beat, but..." Shin made a face, then raised a hand in a shrug. "Instead, I got in here. Cervantes was understanding about it. And I think I can do a lot of good. How long I've been working isn't really that important, I don't think. But you certainly aren't the first person to react like that. And I doubt you'll be the last."
Shin shook his head with a mild frown. "I really am sorry if you're angry I'm in MRC because I'm an X-men. That I got a little special treatment because some guy spoke with some other guy and pulled some strings. I guess if I'd kept on doing beat work and playing things on a level playing field, that would have earned peoples respects a bit more than getting in here. And it wouldn't have been so contradictory. But what's done is done. And I apologize, but I can't apologize for being here all day. I'm here, and I can help. I'll bust my butt to make sure I don't get in the way. You deserve respect a lot more than I do, since you didn't take any shortcuts. You've certainly got mine. I hope we can work together, even if all I've said just now bugs you. Just please... don't haze me." He added weakly. "When I was just starting out, they gave me undersized pants. I forget if I still had them when I helped you or not. But that sorta gets in the way of doing what everyone here set out to do, don't you think? It lets hostile emotions get in the way of saving lives?" He scratched his cheek and smiled weakly, if honestly.
That was a whole wall of text. If he'd been reading a comic book, he'd have had to turn a whole lot of pages. He wasn't apologizing for any of it. The readers of his comic book could just read a novel. At least he wasn't unloading the plus-sized speech bubbles while in mid-air, throwing a punch.

Quin listened. The kid was trying, he probably deserved that much, but the redhead decided that she didn't owe him another damn thing.
He was doing this as a favor to the department? To help people and smooth things over. He'd gone through academy, but he didn't get it, and he never would.
He'd said a lot, probably even too much. Quin didn't have much to say back though, she shook her head. He didn't want to be hazed. That was part of the process.
"Someone like you will never understand someone like me." Quin said.
"Being a mutant doesn't put us above the law or the system no matter what we can do. People talk about equal rights, and equal treatment and then the X-Men run around with their jets and their special treatment, and all the strings they can pull."
Quin smiled, but it wasn't a very nice smile. "Sure you'll 'stay out of the way', but someone will have to be your partner, and whether or not your experience with the X-Men qualified you for writing parking tickets and all that lowly beat work, it's how you learn the rules." she said. "And it's not just going to be your butt on the line when you screw up."
Quin shook her head, disgusted with him and disgusted with herself.
"Hazing should be the last thing you're worried about."

Okay. He'd never said he was above the law... and he'd never said anything about jets. He'd just wanted to help people. And she was smiling, but he didn't have to drag Kealey in to tell him she wasn't really happy behind that smile.
Okay. Okay. He had just been kidding about hazing.
Somehow, he got the impression that nothing he'd said had even gotten through to her. She was being unreasonable. So, he shrugged.
"Like I said. I'm not asking for special treatment. Getting here was probably the only string I had to have pulled. From here on out, I don't care how you think about me. I already made up my mind." He could be as stubborn as hell if he needed to. People didn't usually get to see this side of him, but it was there. "Let's finish the tour." He finished tightly.

His entire existence was special treatment, but Quin had to hand it to the guy...he'd taken everything she wanted to give and hadn't even been petty enough to throw it in her face.
The rookie wanted to finish the tour. Fine, they'd finish the tour. Quin leaned against the doorframe.
"That's really about it, there are bunks through here in case you end up crashing here. It happens. There's also holding cells and an evidence locker, but that's going to be your partner's problem and unless someone else has told you where to find a desk you'll have to hash that out with the captain."
See. She could be civil, and since apparently "Officer" Shinbo was here to stay, she didn't really have another choice. "Any questions?"

Shin opened his mouth to say... something. But suddenly, the whole world went to hell.
It's an interesting place, hell. Lots of noises and cops scurrying. Lots of stuff happening. Someone approached him and Archer and started giving directions.
Shin blinked.
"Huh?"
The man repeated himself. "Situation on 23rd avenue. Queens. Some mutants causing trouble. Multiple officers have been attacked." He looked towards Archer and stated adamantly "We're gonna need all hands on deck for this one. They attacked some of our own."

Thank GOD they were almost done with all of this nonsense and soon she could go back to her desk and her forest of pencils. If nothing else, that activity would be less provoking than the one in which she was currently engaged. Dismissal was about to happen, summarily in fact, when another officer approached.
As the man spoke, Quin’s brow furrowed, it was almost like the guy was avoiding the details, but one phrase kept on sticking out in her mind. No matter how many different ways the guy had said it, it meant the same thing. Someone in MRC was hurt. Multiple people in MRC were hurt. The redhead involuntarily looked out at the desks to see who was absent. There were a lot.
Questions flowed through her mind at 100 mph, she wanted to ask them all, but held herself in check. Loose cannons weren’t any help in the field. She gave the Asian kid a sideways glance.
”We’re on our way.” she said, and the other officer nodded, walking off.
”Looks like you’re going to get some on the job training.” she said, already walking from the room.

"Probably for the best," The Asian agreed. "I'm only really used to driving bikes."
He followed. And he didn't say much of anything else.
***
He stood on the roof of the police car. Lights turned. Fire burned. The laundromat behind him blazed as he cackled wildly at some uproarious event! In his right hand, twin fireballs danced. There was a spot of fire on the overhanging bridge not too far away. One of the stop lights below it was bent warily, like a dog ashamed of what it had done. Groans came from the police on the ground.
"Still alive, eh?" He sneered. His feet touched down on the cement of the street with a jingle, the sound of bells. It continued as he walked, jingle jangle, jingle jangle. His eyes lowered down, down, and so too did the ear-like edges of his jester's cap. He glowered over his bulbous red nose. The officer's eyes held fear. Then some sound danced its merry way to meet his ears. Tires.
His eyes jumped from the body of the officer, leaping the chasm of distance between that and this to focus on a vehicle's approach!"New blood." He mouthed. "Fun."
His body turned towards the vehicle. One hand whipped up quickly like a tennis player's serve. He leaped into the air with a JANG! The other hand slammed down to spike the balls. JINGLE JANG! His feet met in the air, then down he went. His target? A certain fiery redhead's car.
A certain Asian noticed, and swore under his breath. A certain four-letter word. "Move!"
