The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Meld found herself walking in central park, Aura by her side, looking for a place of relative seclusion where they could spar together in peace. It was past midnight and there were very few people around anyway, but it was important to find the right place. Even at this time there were enough humans about to be potentially annoying and she just didn't feel like dealing with them tonight. She had been looking forward to having the chance to spar with Aura virtually since her first night at Sanctuary. Not only did her friend have a very interesting power, but she also had martial arts training and it had been far too long since Meld had had a good opponent to practice with. Humans tended to be afraid of sparring with her because of her mutation and, up until very recently, she hadn't had any mutants to spar with. This ought to prove to be a very interesting night.
After a short while Meld stopped, a spot chosen. It was a mid-sized clearing with trees on 3 sides so there was very little chance of being interrupted. During this entire time she said nothing to her companion, simply walking and preparing herself mentally. She supposed that she could have decided to spar in the training area of Sanctuary and she doubted Aura would have complained, but she had always found it therapeutic to be outside, especially outside sparring. It was all about having the right mindset.
Meld sat down in the grass briefly and took off her backpack. Carefully she removed a small metal disk with leather straps, about 2 feet across. It was a rather crude piece of work, little more than a disk with some straps on it, but she would need to learn to fight with such a thing attached to her right arm once she got all the materials for her newest flesh meld and this was the best way she could think of to practice its use. Carefully she strapped the leather strapped to her arm, testing to ensure that they were fully secured. It wasn't nearly the quality that she would expect when her flesh meld was completed, and it didn't have the sharp edges the shield on her arm would have, but it was a passable substitute. At least it wouldn't feel entirely foreign when the time came that it would become a part of her.
Meld stood up and took a deep breath, facing Aura. "I believe I'm ready." She took a battle stance, deceptive in its apparent casual nature. It was time to find out just what the other woman was made of. Meld smiled in anticipation.
Aura walked with Meld in mutual silence, but Aura's was due to her thinking about her recent loss in combat as she had been trained she had gone over the fight a hundred time sin her head. Staff-Man had completely outclassed her, his use of distence attacks had exploited her weakness, he had learned it and used it before she even saw him. Detecting him was meaningless however, it proved one thing to Aura, she needed more power, if her aura was strong enough if it could reach even a few feet further, she may have won the fight. She had been lucky she had managed to calm her attacker before he could land a real blow against her, his reaction had shown her that he was trying to break through her sheild but if he had done that she would have seriously injured herself. Range had been the key to the battile but still strength would have meant she would have been in the fight much longer which in turn gave her more of a chance to beat her oponents. It all simply meant she would be training alot mor from now on.
Aura aproved of whare Meld wordlessly chose to set their sparring match. Aura had sparred a number of times, in the woods, but her friens had mostly outclassed her in raw power, most of all Solkat a girl Aura had a crush on and had been upset realzieing she would never see her freind again. It was another thing that if she had been stronger she could have stopped, her own weakness could never be the cuase of injury to her friends, but even as these noble thoughts crept into her mind, A pang of guilt shatterd it as she recalled ghost being wounded by bullets that deflected from her sheild. It all came down to her weakness, that stinging enrageing lack of strength, their was no choice but to correct it or she would fall to the side truely useless.
Aura aproved of the blade Meld had made, to aura it was a beautiful peice of work, the time spent on it was obvious, Aura considerd asking if Meld could make a sword as well. unsure if the process was even remotely the same. If Aura could get range and power, then she could be unstoppable. She pushed these thoughts from her mind, isloateing them away for later. Aura was glad Meld had chosen to stay and join them in the order, she liekd her a lot.
"As am I" Aura said clearing her midn again of any remaining thoughts, already she could feel the adrenniline punping through her system. Her Aura came into veiw first thin then growing untill it was a few inched from her skin and then thinned out again as aura former her blade, though the sword was just a few inches past her fist, the blade coverd her lower arm she blunted the tip on purpose. She had littile in terms of a battile stance, except she held her right arm stiff, it helped to make the arc better but also could deceive oponents beleiveing she could not move her arm well with the blade.
Aura moved quickly across the moonlin grass, she was sure the other girl was stronger then her, but not so much her speed, as Aura aproached Meld, she swung but not with her bladed, arm, her Aura instead quickly flowed into her left arm as well forming a blunt hammer like object, she used ina qucik chest level punch, keeping her balde back defencively in case their was a counter attack. Aura smiled, she loved to fight, she would do everyhing it took to make her more efective at fighting, she was going to ask the Sanctuary for training with various weapons, to make her better and stronger.
Devon hadn't gone home yet. Even after the sun had gone down, he didn't feel like going home. He just didn't feel like it. Sure, he'd figured out the whole mystery of the lighted ovals, but now he was more worried about what lied in wait for him when he got there. HER. He already knew that by now, Chris had dropped by the house to look for him, therefore revealing his "I'm going to hang out with Chris" note to be completely bogus. When he got home: "Why did you lie? What's wrong." and "Skippy, I'm not going anywhere until you tell me what's really bothering you." Which generally involved 1-2 hours of questions and a LOT of notebook paper. It was one of the few arguements his mom had made toward him taking a class in actual sign language. Then there was the fact that Chris was going to be SUPER pissed for bailing on him. The one-sided arguement would ensue, and then... He closed his eyes and shook his head. He didn't want to think about it anymore. He walked along the lit sidewalk of Central Park. He wasn't really worried. he was pretty sure he could handle any crackhead that decided he looked like his next source. And since the park was less crowded at this time of night, he didn't feel like everyone was looking at him. He did, however, catch a glint of something. Something shiny. He turned his head slightly to see a pair of women heading into the woods just off the sidewalk. His brow lowered as he wondered what they were up to. His expression became even more curious as he realized the glint was coming from.... one of the girls' arms?
That... can't be good....
Murder in progress? Being New York, he knew it was best to just keep walking. He took 10 steps before he sighed.
Damnit...
He turned and walked into the woods after them. He walked slowly, trying to watch where he was stepping as to not cause any unusual noise. He spotted them just ahead, in a clearing of sorts. But the two were facing each other now... and one was sitting. He couldn't really make out what she was doing. But it didn't look like they were about to attack anyone..... except maybe each other. He'd seen this kind of behaviour in people who were about to spar. The girl got to her feet. He couldn't make out what the two were saying, but then the other girl suddenly charged her.And she was... glowing? It looked like she was carrying a sword. And a hammer? His eyes went wide as his jaw dropped.
Mutants!? A mutant sparring match?
The surprise melted away almost immediately, replaced by a smile.

Meld observed Aura's every move very carefully, subtly altering her stance as the other woman altered hers. She was fast, Meld could all ready tell that, probably a bit faster than Meld herself was. This was going to prove to be a very interesting competition. Win or lose, she was certain that both of them had a great deal to learn from on another. The very nature of Aura's powers would force Meld to learn quick adaptation to changing circumstances in order to deal with a variety of potential weapons. She was hoping that Aura, too, would have some things to learn about herself. She doubted the other woman had dealt with the kind of unorthodox yet plainly well trained fighting style that she employed, and yet couldn't say for certain not knowing the details of the other's history.
Meld kept a careful eye on the sword, while not neglecting to continue to observe the rest of her foe's body. If there was one thing that she had learn from competitions, it was that an attack could come from anywhere and be aimed at any part of the body. The deception of attacking with a hammer instead of the all ready formed sword almost caught her off guard and she was certain that had her training been any less than it was, it would have. Instead she managed to dodge, narrowly avoiding being struck by the hammer and counterattacking with a chop from the side of her bladed hand to her opponent's arm.
Meld carefully circled Aura, searching for even the slightest opening in order to get in and effectively attack. She had always been a careful, meticulous fighter, at least during the feeling out process of a fight, and now was no exception. Finally, Meld rushed in, attempting to take out the left leg of her foe with a kick to the shin. She kept her shield and metal arm in front of her protectively.
Auras thrust missed and her momentum carried her forward, so that the chop struck her back, her Aura absorbed the flow and Aura stumbeled forward a bit. It was clear meld knew what she was doing, as the other woman circelled her she kept calm and still. Meld had been able to strike first but that was fine. Her deception had failed, which was fine she was hoping meld was good enough to avoid that kind of cheap shot.
Aura barely dodged the kick, narrowly moving aside, as she did, she brought her sword arm up and swung hard decideing to test the strength of Meld's enehancements head on, her other arms hammer shifted flowing to form an Axe like weapon around her fist, this new weapon she brought in from her left side, trying to make Meld defend both attacks at once, it would give her a test of how strong the metal actually was. She knew littile about metals other then they varied greatly in strength, knolage that would prolbely be good to learn.
Aura knew she ahd to get around the Mlds in order to strike at what was still vulnrable, as she backed away to see if she had done any damage. They were close in both strengtha nd speed and that would make for a good fight alone. Aura took no notice of the person watching them so focussed on meld. Aura felt cutting down trees and the like were not the tactics to use here as it was a sparring match. Still Aura was determine dto have learned from her previous mistakes in combat, every mutant she fought gave her new knolage on how to fight other with mutations like hers. It was Aura's opinion you could learn from every battile.
Devon watched, his eyes once again widening as his mouth fell open. All that he had seen had happened in maybe a matter of seconds. Not only were these women mutants, it was clear now that they were both pro combatants. He'd never actually seen a fight with weapons in person, let alone a fight between mutants. He smiled again as the two circled each other. it reminded him of the samurai fight in Kill Bill. The girl with the sword and hammer seemed to be the more aggressive fighter. That, or the other one was sizing her up, first. One chilling thought crept to the front of his mind as he watched and waited.
You think they'll be pissed if they find out you've been watching?
His heart began to pound a bit. Not knowing if these people were the "violent-I-don't-give-a-damn" kind of mutants he heard about on the news suddenly made him feel like he'd made a HUGE mistake. He realized that at present, either one of them alone could easily take him. What if they BOTH decided to jump him? Looking behind him, he couldn't really make out what was lying on the ground, so he didn't really know if sneaking away was an option. But... maybe if he waited... at least until the two were done, he could at least out-run them if they decided to come after him. He slowly pressed himself aagainst the tree he'd been standing behind.
It's cool... He thought. Just stay out of sight and don't bother them and maybe things won't get ugly...

Meld allowed herself only the briefest moment of satisfaction as she struck the first hit against her foe. She may have gotten first blood, so to speak, but the fight was far from over and she knew she couldn't afford to let her guard down. She would not underestimate the skills of her opponent. Clearly Aura was at least as experienced as she was and was likely more experienced when it came to fighting mutants.
Meld spotted both the sword and the axe coming at her and moved swiftly to block. The axe she managed to deflect easily with her metal hand but was not so fortunate when it came to blocking the sword. She tried to lift her right arm with the shield attached to deflect the sword strike but was unused to its size and wight and misjudged and only managed to partially deflect the attack. She saw the sword strike her side but felt nothing from the blow. Her advantage due to her lack of physical sensation was that the pain from wounds wouldn't' slow her down, but she knew if she took to many more strikes like that the injuries would begin to accumulate and eventually take their toll.
Meld didn't allow Aura to back away far, pursuing her immediately so as to not allow her time to rest or regroup. For a second time Meld went for Aura's left shin, knowing that if she struck the same location enough times that location would eventually weaken, hopefully leading her to her victory. Simultaneously, she attempted to grab the blade of her opponents sword. She wasn't sure if it was even possible to do so, not knowing the exact properties of the other woman's aura, but knew it would be advantageous if she could disable one of her weapons.
Meld took no notice of anything going on around her. Her entire attention was focused on her opponent and she was unaware that they were presently being watched.
The Blow against her leg hit her hard and true, if not for her Aura the attack may have at the least caused immence pain, instead Aura fell forward, her Aura absorbing the blow at the cost of some of it's own energy. reagaining her footing, Aura saw the hand reach for her Aura and for a secound it made contact with the balde and then the blade stopped being solid at all though stll visable, the energy flowed back into her Aura
Aura used her still free axe weapon as tried to move on meld's flank aiming the swing at chest Level, even as She turned a bit, so that she would be faceing Meld when the swing finnished. Again her Aura formed a blade around her free hand but this time it was a small knife like blade that rose from her Aura. She was prepareing herself for Meld's next strike. Whatever metal meld was useing she figured she would not have cut through, which was good, Aura did not wish to dmaage the womans hard work. Forming her Axe into a smller knife like blade Aura smiled.
Aura had no idea they were being watched still, she was to intent on proving herself in the fight if only to herself. She was so focussed she had dropped the useual banter she kept up in combat. Aura did realize though she could very well lose the fight which would be ok she guessed, better here then in actual combat. She just needed an opening and she would strike, until then she had to bide her time and wait, Aura's back was to the two spectators they had picked up.
Devon watched intently as the fight intensified. He still wasn't sure if it was safe to try and make his getaway yet. He kept his eys forward and tried to press against the tree further.
And then felt his foot slip on it's base.
And then heard a rather loud snapping noise as his foot connected with an unseen twig.
And then felt his blood turn to ice as his eys widened. He immediately froze, hoping that if he stayed still, maybe the shadows would make him undetectable. He also became acutely aware of the fact that the tingling sensation in his arms had returned. He looked around, slightly panicked, realizing that even if he wanted to, he couldn't really think of an escape route he could use with his portals. Sometimes they didn't work....

Meld found it interesting how her blows appeared to be absorbed by the aura of her opponent. Obviously it absorbed the blunt of the impact, however it was equally obvious that there was some effect, though she wasn't sure exactly how much. Perhaps if she managed to strike the other woman enough times she might have a chance to actually damage her. She found it equally interesting how the aura could dissolve itself and resolidify at will, seemingly, negating her attempt to grab hold of the blade.
Meld stumbled forward slightly as the sword dissolved in her hand. She quickly regained her feet, however because of her momentary loss of footing Aura managed to lay a second blow, this time on her chest. Meld didn't allow the blow to slow her any, quickly counterattacking with her metal hand, going after her foe's knife hand, aiming a blow at her wrist. She also made an attempt to shield bash her foe in the face with her shield arm, making sure not to lift her arm so high as to make it difficult to lower it in order to defend her vulnerable mid section.
So consumed with the fight with her friend, Meld almost didn't hear the snapping twig. She froze for a moment and suddenly disengaged from Aura, jumping backwards. "Stop, I heard something." She kept her voice quiet, in case the noise meant there was a potential threat. Considering what the two of them had just been doing and the fact that they were both obvious mutants, such a reality was not unrealistic.
"Come out now and you won't be hurt." Meld looked carefully in the direction the sound had come from, attempting to pinpoint what or who had caused it. It was dark and if not for her flesh melded eye she wouldn't have been able to see much of anything beyond about 10 feet from her, but as it was she noticed movement near a tree a short distance away. Spotted and obviously human.
Aura Managed avoid the blow to her wrist but cought the shield head on which throwing her head back and pushing her back enough where she lost her balance, putting her palms behind her as soon as they hit the ground she thrust herself up into a back flip landing in a crouched position as she did. She was ready to strike again, she could feel her Aura's flow she had to avoid that sheild being used as a weapon, it could be powerful if used like that, When she heard something behind her, and Meld yelled to stop.Looking behind her, Aura could see nothing terribly well at a distance, as her eyes were little better then a Humans. Aura assumed Meld could see their intruder as she began talking and looking in the direction of the sound which Aura had been unable to look at.
Aura scanned the area trying to locate whoever the intruder happened to be, to make it seem like she could see, Aura took a few steps forward, her Aura weapons dissolved back into her Aura in case the threat was hostile. She could absorb much more damage when her weapons were undeployed. If it was a fellow mutant she did not want to look to threatening as well, certainly not if they were freindly, who knew it may have been someone willing to join in the fun. "We wish to cause no harm to whoever you are, but we would like you to reveal yourself for safety reasons" Aura explained the best she could, in truth she emant their own safety not whoever this was. "Seems the plan to go unnoticed did not succeed" Aura said with a small laugh.
Auras next action would be decided on two things if this intruder chose to listen and if he was human or mutant, They copuld have some fun sparring with the human, surely he would last a little while. Aura Pushed the distracting and somwhat brutal thoughts from her mind as she waited for the persons response.
Just about every single swear word known to the English AND Japanese languages were going through Skipper's heads as he cringed at the voices of the two girls.
Okay.... okay... I'm busted....
He took a deep breath as he assessed the situation. Given the somewhat adamant sound of their voices, he knew they meant business, even if they said they didn't want to harm him. And harm him, they could, he had concluded. But... since they didn't attack or even advance in his direction, maybe they weren't anyone to be afraid of...
Such was his hope as he came out from behind the tree and took a few steps forward into the moonlit clearing. Getting a better look at them, he immediately noticed that one of them looked even looked even younger than him. She looked like the average girl next door. The other looked slightly older, and looked like one of those girls he'd seen at the goth/metal club he'd visited a few times. Well, aside from the metallic looking arms. He scratched the back of his head a bit, then shoved one hand into his pocket as he forced an embarrassed smile and gave a small, friendly little wave.

Meld let her guard down slightly as their not so silent observer came out from the shadows and made himself known to the both of them. He appeared to be a young male in punkish clothing, maybe a few years younger than she herself was. Meld couldn't' help but wonder if perhaps this individual was a mutant. He didn't seem too terribly disturbed by their display and in her opinion even humans who weren't overly hostile towards mutants tended to be uncomfortable around overt displays of power.
Meld waved back to the unknown figure then began unbuckling the shield on her arm. It seemed as if their little sparring competition was over, quite the shame actually. Just when things were starting to get interesting. "Good fight," she told her companion. "We'll have to finish this off sometime in the future." She grinned and turned her attention to the stranger. "So how long have you been watching us and what did you think of the show?"
Meld felt more than a little uncomfortable about the fact that she had been snuck up on so easily. She was so intent upon her opponent that she hadn't even thought to pay attention to what was going on in the area beyond their little circle. Had the stranger been a real threat, well, things would not have gone well for either of them. And it was clear that her friend had had the same problem of overly focused vision as she herself had. Meld sighed, mentally berating herself. By this time she should know better than to drop her attention. No matter what was going on, survival often depended upon being aware of your surroundings at all time and in that she had failed.
"He might want to play with us," Aura said with a shrug and a bit of hope in her voice "If you wnat to join, us your more then welcome to" she said, but it was the voice of a kid who knew it was time to put away her faverite toy. Aura moved with grace closer to the boy simply trying to get a better look at him. She was curius who the kid was, he had said nothing which was strange, Aura found this kind of things useually ended in two ways, the person wanted somthing or the person was just scared becuse they liked watching a good fight, and aura could not blame them for that.
"I suppose your right, we have all the time we could want" she said stretching a bit as she waited for the boy to say somthing. Aura was berateing herself for allowing somone to sneak up her, she had never been great at finding hidden attackers, but still it was somthing one should always be awhare of. You could end a nation in a hand but still fall to a single bullet ibn the right spot. She was better off then most, normally having her Aura solid around most of her body. Still her aura did have to be up for that to matter in the first place and things dictated that she not just walk around with her Aura exposed.
Her green eyes kept sweeping the area, checking for any other hidden people she had failed to find. She spotted no one, but that could have meant many things, She glanced a concearned look back at Meld. Aura was hoping the other girls yes let her see better then her own. Leaning back against a Tree, Aura fingers absently drummed on the wood, mostly as he rbody tried to dump her excess adrenniline from the fight, Aur ahad been enjoying it alot, but she always enjoyed combat, it kept the mind focussed on what was importent.
Skipper's heartbeat began to return to normal as the girls spoke. His gaze shifted between both of them as questions came, then comments. He noticed the younger one seemed pleasant enough, but her demeanor was giving him the creeps. She reminded him of those kinds of schoolgirls in anime that talked sweet, but were about ready to drive a knife in your back. And in this case, he knew she was fully capable of it. The other's calmness was also a bit disturbing. There was a straightforward kind of professionalism in her questioning. He also noticed that for everything they had just thrown at each other, neither seemed even the slightest bit winded.
He then smiled a bit before making some light punches in the air in front of him, then gave two "thumbs up" signals. His way of saying: "Good fight."
Realizing then that neither of them knew that he couldn't speak, he used a gesture that he'd learned at age 5 when he watched The Little Mermaid with his cousins. He tilted his head back and tapped his throat, then made a cutting motion across it.
