The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Yeah," he agreed with a long breath on the end of the word. Making people feel something with music was the best part of it. That was, after all, why people did it, wasn't it? Otherwise, what was the good in it? "Peoples' reactions are the best part of it by far. Sure, the awards are fun, but making people happy is way better."
"You'd be a one woman band!" Bailey replied excitedly. He tried to imagine her playing violin, piano, and guitar all at once. That would have to be one pretty cool contraption that would likely involve all of her limbs. He snickered as the image came to his mind.
Blushing profusely, Bailey realized that he'd said something wrong when he'd talked about his secret love of Ed Sheeran. He hadn't wanted to say something wrong, but as he listened to her explain why he shouldn't be ashamed, he felt as though he'd messed everything up. "You're right. Should I, like, send him fan mail, or something?" He laughed awkwardly, trying to backpedal a bit to save face. "I'll look her up when I get home. What's Estonia like?" He ventured curiously. She'd told him a little bit, but he wanted to know more. It sounded really cool. "Hah!" Bailey laughed loudly as she made her joke. "Man, who would do that? Crazy story."

Frowning, Bailey watched as Gawain took a seat at the back of the shop. He was serious; they really were waiting for his replacement. For some unknown reason, he had hoped that he was kidding, and they would be leaving right away. Unfortunately, the hope had been unfounded. It didn't look like the other guy was going anywhere fast. "So... what? Are we just going to... walk?" Bailey asked, the corners of his mouth twitching uncomfortably. As much as he liked talking to Gawain, he wasn't all that big on the whole 'walking long distances' thing. "How far away is this place?"
>>"So, it's just your dad, then?" "Uh, yeah. A few of my brothers live with me too, but we all just kinda come and go. My mom and some of my other brothers live back in Canada," he explained. It was a little more in depth than the question had called for, but Bailey was actually holding himself back. Parts of him wanted to just ramble on and tell Gawain his whole life story.
>>"Is he an actor or something? I was raised by my mom, she did that for a while..."
Bailey nodded. "Stage actor. He's doing Shakespeare stuff, but he's also been doing a few commercials here and there, 'cause those pay way better."
He changed the subject after that, not wanting to seem entirely self absorbed. It made it easier that Gawain had already started to talk about his mom. "What's your mom like?"

"I don't need a bag!" Bailey insisted as his poor choices were called into question. Sure, he was struggling, but he was also managing! He didn't need Emily to fix the situation for him. He frowned as he watched her fill the bag with the various items he had picked up.
Despite his arguing, he couldn't help but recognize how much nicer it was to just have to carry the two popcorns. He didn't have to worry about a wandering package falling from his grasp. Plus, he could actually see where he was going. "Yeah, you're right," he admitted despite himself. He nodded to the cashier on the other side of the counter and thanked him politely. "Alrighty," Bailey nodded at the mention of finding seats. His arm was punched lightly, to which he stuck out his tongue playfully. It hadn't hurt nearly as much as when she'd punched him before, so he could take it in stride. Plus, he was getting far more comfortable around Emily. Sure, she was still a bit confusing, but she was also exciting. And fun.
They walked through the theatre, and Bailey handed his ticket over to the girl manning the booth. She ripped the one side off quickly, and then handed him the rest.

"Whoa, dude, slow down"
Bailey froze in place and pursed his lips as he finally listened to what Gawain was saying. His statements were all valid, but man, were they ever disappointing. He had been really excited to go right that moment.
The teen frowned, nodded, and scuffed the floor with the edge of his converse. He was right, they wouldn't be leaving for at least twenty minutes, which was when his replacement was supposed to arrive. "Yeah, you're right. My shift change is in 20 minutes, so we should probably wait until then.
"My dad won't care, though. He's at an audition or something. Won't even be home tonight. He might not even notice that I'm gone. We could probably even take his car!" Bailey suddenly grew excited again at the idea. He hadn't gone on a road trip in a while. They could put on fun music, get snacks, shoot the breeze, and whatever other cool stuff people did on road trips! It would be great!

"No, I think I'll be fine," Bailey said as he did his best not to drop anything. He brought one of the popcorn bags up to his face and took a kernel off the top with his tongue, and then munched it loudly. Nothing beat extra buttery movie theatre popcorn.
He hadn't really understood Emily's sarcasm, so he just kept walking, oblivious to the fact that most people didn't order an entire row from the candy display. With four brothers, Bailey had grown used to eating whatever he could when he wasn't around the other vultures that would take it from him. "Which theatre are we in?" He asked after a minute of walking blindly through the theatre lobby with a mountain of snacks in his arms.

"Sick!" Bailey yelled enthusiastically as he received Gawain's answer. He was so pumped. He didn't even bother to listen to the rest of what Gawain had to say. "Just let me grab my stuff!"
He slammed his palm on the counter and ran into the back excitedly. The day was shaping up to be super duper great after all! He raced to the back of the store to grab his phone, wallet, and whatever other personal items he had brought to work that day. On his way, he could hear parts of a question that was most definitely directed at him.
"Uh, 18 next month," he called back. He didn't quite hear the full question, but he caught enough snippets to assume the rest of it. He didn't really know why that was pertinent information, but he wasn't opposed to telling the guy. No skin off of his back. Unless he was a... Nah, he probably wasn't.
He raced back into the room, a little out of breath from his excitement, and looked at Gawain excitedly. "Alright, so are we going?" He asked him. He was definitely supposed to wait until his replacement arrived before leaving, but there were only, like, twenty more minutes left in his shift. It wouldn't be that bad if he left. He probably wouldn't get fired.
Whatever. Bailey didn't really care. He was too excited to both finishing out his shift, no matter what the consequence would be.

"Eh, I'm alright at it," Bailey grinned sheepishly. He was actually pretty good, but he felt weird about saying that out loud. It was actually one of the few things that he was really good at. "Here I mostly just play at school. Back in Canada I was part of this jazz band that would play in the town square all the time. That was really fun. We even won a few competitions."
"That's really cool!" Bailey enthused after hearing her list. "That's a lot of instruments! Do you ever play them toge- no wait, that's stupid. Of course you don't." He shook his head and sighed. He was always speaking without thinking.
"Uhhh... I sing just about anything. I really like alternative music, but I sing classical stuff too, sometimes." He looked to either side of him quickly to make sure no one was listening, even though they were the only two in the shop. "And I also really like Ed Sheeran, but don't tell anyone."
He threw his hands in the air and grinned, a little red faced. He laughed awkwardly as he said, "shoot, you got me!" He didn't dare mention the time he had actually stolen an armful of socks from some guy at the sanctuary. That was a dark moment for him. "Nothing weird? That can't be true," he cocked his head and studied her. Everyone did something weird, even if it wasn't all that cool. "C'mon. You have to do something weird. You can trust me, I promise." He winked at the end of that statement, just as any good charmer would do.

"Sweet things coming right up!" Bailey grinned excitedly. She trusted his judgement. That probably wasn't the best idea, but he wasn't one to argue. He waltzed to the front of the line and began to inspect the candy display case eagerly. There were so many good things to choose from. Too many good things to choose from...
The teen raised an eyebrow and looked up at the cashier. "I'll take a bag of skittles, a bag of M&Ms, a box of cotton candy, some Sour Patch Kids, some Fuzzy Peaches, some peanut butter cups, and two Twix bars." That would probably last them until after the commercials, right?
He looked over at Emily, who was talking about her opinion on horror movies. He nodded, trying not to imagine how horrible it would be to have to sit in a room with people terrified out of their minds and have to feel what they were feeling. That would definitely be a pass for him.
"Uh... coke?" He shrugged at the drink question. He wasn't all that picky.
The cashier handed him the pile of sugar that he'd ordered, and he piled it into his arms and handed him two twenties. "Ah shoot, I forgot. Two popcorns too, please."
He frowned a little as he the guy began to ring up the total. It was going to hurt his wallet a little. But hey, what was money for, if not for spending? He probably wasn't going to go to college anyway, so why not blow it on fun things?
He added the two bags of popcorn to his already overstuffed pile and shoved his change into his front pocket. Then, he turned to join Emily, trying to get a view of her between the snack bags that blocked his line of vision.

Bailey nodded stuck his hands in his pockets, feeling around for his wallet. "Popcorn and a small drink it is, then," he grinned and began to walk in the direction of the concession stand. "Any candy? Gummy worms? M&Ms? Skittles?" He could think of many things that he wanted to eat, but he decided to let her choose. It probably wasn't the best time for her to be privy to the bottomless pit that was his stomach.
He approached the lineup for the stand and finally was able to fish out his rather beaten old wallet. He stared at it for a minute, trying to decide what to do. If it was a date, then gender rules dictated that he paid for the evening. That much he knew, but he didn't really know whether or not it actually was a date. They hadn't discussed that, and he didn't really want to bring it up then.
Bailey glanced at Emily with a slight frown and decided to do the same thing as with the candy; let her decide.
"Horror movies are great. They're usually pretty funny, actually. It's rare that one will actually scare me," he grinned as he thought about the last one he saw. That had been a real hoot. "What about you?" He asked, noticing that she was standing a little ways back. It was a bit odd, but maybe she was trying to make it abundantly clear that it wasn't a date. That made figuring out whether or not he was supposed to be paying a little bit easier, at least.

"Oh, I know a bunch of ya. With my powers, they are kinda easy to spot."
"Waitwaitwait," Bailey leaned a little forward and gawked at Gawain. He knew a bunch of them? Bailey hadn't even met one other person like him! He'd only heard about stuff on the internet, and here this guy was, talking about all the adapteds he knew. Where had been when he'd been told by that X dude that he wasn't, in fact a mutant, but some other strain of human?
"You know more adapteds? I've never met another one!" He was positively brimming with excitement by that point. He needed to meet more people like him! Exchange stories! Find out that he wasn't alone! He shook himself after thinking that. When had his life become a dystopian drama? Whatever, meeting other adapteds was something that needed to happen.
He picked up his speech at an alarming pace, unwilling to let the topic pass without saying what he wanted to say. "Could you, like, introduce me, or something? It's just that, y'know, I've never met another one before, and I think it'd be really cool... but, if you don't want to, that's just fine. I wouldn't wanna impose or anything."

Bailey's mouth twisted into a sort of pitying position as he watched her talk about her time in the music store. It sounded as though she had really enjoyed it, but something had happened to change that. She didn't say what did happen, but she became so somber after talking that even Bailey, who had absolutely no filter, knew not to ask about it.
He cleared his throat a little and steered the conversation in a slightly different direction. "So... uh... what did you play? What do you like to sing? I play trumpet at school. Not all that good, but it's fun. I sing, sometimes, too. It's a lot of fun. I get it." As always, his rambling was punctuated at the end with a large grin.
"Weird things?" Bailey chuckled. He had to think about that for a minute. "Uh... well... I can recite a bunch of things from different Shakespeare plays, and I have a sock collection? I dunno if either of those really counts as weird."

Bailey strolled into the movie theatre, still half asleep. He stifled a yawn and covered his mouth with his arm, looking around for Emily. Sure, it was four in the afternoon, but he hadn't slept at all the night before, so he'd slept through the day right up until he was supposed to meet her. Well, maybe a little bit past, actually. He was a tad late.
That didn't at all mean that he wasn't excited, though. He'd actually really been looking forward to seeing a movie with her. Ever since they'd hung out at the mall, they'd been texting back and forth constantly. Basically, the only time they weren't in some form of communication was when he was at work and wasn't supposed to be using his phone. Occasionally he still did, though.
He was also looking forward to seeing the movie they had picked out. He was very much a fan of horror movies, and he'd been looking forward to seeing that one for a while.
He glanced around for his... well, he didn't really know what to call the outing, actually. Was it a date? Were they just friends? Did she even like him that way? Did she even like guys? All of it was too confusing and complicated. Maybe he would just not bring it up and let her direct things. That seemed like an easier option.
Bailey had just taken out his phone to text Emily when he finally spotted her. He slipped the device into his back pocket and approached quickly. He couldn't help but notice how nice her hair looked as it was backlit by the movie poster behind her. He felt a little underdressed in his hoodie and jeans, but tried not to dwell on that fact. It was a little late to do anything about it. "Hey," he greeted. "Sorry, I'm a bit late. Ready? Do you want popcorn or anything?"
By that point in their outing, Bailey was basically a human tomato. He doubted that there was any part of his body that hadn't turned bright red from his blushing.
Judging from Emily's reaction, he decided that it had been stupid for his mind to jump to period related things. He made a mental note to never, ever bring something like that up again, or to assume it. Doing so would probably be safer for him in the long run, and hopefully would include a bit less blushing.
He matched her grin slowly as she straightened him out. He had started to feel a little better about the whole thing since she'd stopped laughing, but it was still a little bit awkward. He just hoped that his face wouldn't betray that fact.
He cleared his throat and nodded at her suggestion to go find a scarf for her mother. That sounded a lot better than the perfume store, and it would likely end a little better than their time spent in that horrid store.
They stood up, Emily with her arm linked through his, and began to walk through the mall again. All things considered, their shopping trip ended up being very successful.

"S'okay, Gawain," Bailey nodded to the newcomer and offered him a grin. Sure, he had driven away the customers, but that had certainly made the day more interesting. Besides, it was technically Bailey's fault that he'd ended up on the floor. And partly in the ice cream. He... was going to have to clean that.
He cocked his head at the man, trying to figure him out a little. He had little avail. There was nothing really on him to suggest any involvement with anything out of the ordinary, but that didn't really mean much. He figured it would work better to do a bit of actual digging.
"But yeah, we -uh- can't turn it off. So... how do you know so much about adapteds? I've only ever met one other person who knew what I am, and you knew straight off the bat." There was also the fact that he'd come through the countertop, but that was a question to ask later, when they moved off of the topic of adapteds, on to mutants.
Since Gawain was standing up just fine, Bailey decided to multitask. He moved behind him and began to clean the part of the counter that had just held up a person, making sure he got any scuff marks and handprints.

Had she seriously not understood what he meant? Bailey cocked his head at her exasperatedly as he clambered back onto the mall bench, trying to decide what exactly to say to her. "No, not a mental case..." He turned his head back and forth, trying to see if anyone was listening in to what he was about to say. "You know... I thought... you know... well... uh..."
Bailey swallowed before continuing in a hushed tone, "you know, what happens to girls each month? I heard somewhere that it sometimes gives people headaches... so..." His face was bright red by the time he'd finished, and he couldn't stop looking around to make sure that no one was listening in.
Her next sharp reply he was a little more comfortable answering. He retracted his head back into his neck a little, trying to make it clear that he was taken aback by what she was saying. "Well yeah, I've spent time around mutants, but you're all so different! If I went up to people and asked if they were a mutant every time they started acting weird, then I'd probably get punched a heck of a lot more often. People are sensitive about that sort of thing, y'know.
"Besides, Adapteds all do the same thing, so now you know. We're not common, but you'll know for next time," he'd lost a little bit of the edge of his smile, but he definitely wasn't grimacing. He rubbed his arm a little defensively, and picked up the water bottle that had fallen to the floor, forgotten.
