The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

While Kealey went about pulling out her CD Player as well as music collection, Jacen did take the liberty to get a little more comfortable. He pulled off his boots and left them by the door, then set his cowboy hat on the kitchen counter. From the sound of her fiddling with the radio dial it sounded as if her CD collection wasn't really offering what she thought would fit.
Turning, Jacen padded across the floor in his white socks as Kealey made her apology. Music with a beat really wasn't necessary, it had simply been a defense mechanism that would have forced them to have a little more room between them while they danced. Dancing to something like Jazz would be a lot intimate and sensual.
"Jazz would work just fine." Jacen replied with a smile as he felt a slight shiver move up and down his spine. How in the world was he supposed to maintain control when he would be holding Kealey that close? He was supposed to be resisting but if that was true then why did he keep putting himself in temptation?
"So, tell me about yourself." Jacen said teasingly as he took Kealey into his arms after she had started one of the CDs, "Do you come to this place often? I don't think we've bumped into each other before."
Roll playing, yes, roll playing could be good. If he started to think of her as more of a stranger and less of a friend then maybe... ah, hell, who was he trying to kid? He was starting to get out of his depth and could mean disaster if he wasn't extremely careful.
Jacen lifted the glass once more, though instead of drinking it he just gently swirled the liquid in his glass. She was doing things that she thought would probably make him feel better... signs of affection, but they only made him wonder even more how she would react if and when she found out the news. Should he tell her?
"It's been a crappy day." He said after several moments, his eyes momentarily leaving Lori's face to look down at the amber liquid in his glass. "First I had a run in with the wonders of medical science then I met a young woman that wanted to tell me how I should use my ability to help other mutants. She was with the Xavier School and thought that I would make a wonderful teacher or lecturer."
Lifting the glass, Jacen downed half of the drink before lowering the glass. His original plan had been to get as drunk as a skunk but with Lori here he was quickly editing the plan. He didn't want to get so out of it that he said or did something that might hurt Lori but at the same time he still wanted to begin to forget everything he'd gone through.
"What about you?" Jacen asked with raised eyebrow as he slowly lifted the drink back toward his lips once again, "What brings you to my neck of the woods? I'm glad you're here but its definitely unexpected." As soon as the question was spoken, Jacen threw back the rest of the liquid in his glass. Buzzed... he would at least get a nice buzz tonight. He wouldn't pass out but maybe he could at least take the edge off.
As soon as Jacen knew Kealey had a CD player he was fishing in his wallet to pulled out the money for their food. After quickly settling the bill, the pair was off to once again go to Kealey apartment. As much as Jacen was trying to mentally assure himself that his reason for going to Kealey's apartment was different than it had been several nights before, a part of his brain wasn't buying it. Whether he wanted to admit it to himself or not, the idea of getting a chance to try and seduce Kealey again was intriguing but he knew if anything was to happen she had to be comfortable and secure. Where could she ever feel more safe than her very own home?
"I'm sure we can find something in your collection that'll work for dancing." Jacen offered with a grin after parking and stepping out of the truck to help Kealey also disembark, "How about you pick something with some beat, your choice on the genre, then we can kick off our shoes and try some dancing with just the two of us."
The walk from vehicle to Kealey's apartment was short... to short for Jacen to begin rethinking his decision but not so short that he was feeling rushed. In fact, a part of him was beginning to look forward to this time when they would both be able to just act on whatever desires and impulses came their way.
"What about Lori?" The stray through popped into his mind but Jacen chose to ignore it as he stepped inside with the beautiful blond. The chance to see Kealey barefoot and maybe wearing something a little more relaxed and revealing. It was an opportunity he just couldn't pass up.
Jacen was so distracted by his own thoughts and emotions that he didn't actually notice Lori until she was right by his side. Her voice sounded and for a brief moment it seemed to his mind as if she had suddenly just materialized right next to him. For a few brief moments he just stared at her, the shock evident in his eyes. "What the..." His voice trailed off as he tried to reign in his language a little bit since he was now in the presence of a lady. Sure, he knew that Lori could curse with the best of them, but that didn't mean he would skip out on the respect for her gender.
"Where did... how did..." He tried to piece together some sort of complete sentence as she took the bottle from his shocked hand and poured him a generous drink in the glass tumbler she had retrieved from one of the cabinets. Taking the glass from her, Jacen downed the beverage in one long gulp and then set it back down on the counter a little more gently this time. What was he going to say now? He cared about this woman but that was the problem. He cared about how she would react if she knew the truth.
"I thought the next time I saw you would be when I visited you at your trailer." Jacen finally said as he met Lori's eyes and temporarily ignored her question, "It's a nice surprise."
IC: Jacen slammed the door on his truck and strode toward his apartment building. Under one arm was a paper sack with some carefully selected bottles of hard liqour and in his eyes was the light of emotion. Anger, paint, sadness... any one or possibly even all seemed to light up his eyes as he strode up the stairs. He didn't want to deal with this today! Noone could make him deal with this today! He didn't have to work tomorrow which meant that a possible hangover wouldn't affect his capabilities at work.
"I just need a night to forget." Jacen muttered to himself. For one of the first times in his life he actually wanted to get completely drunk. For years he had prided himself on drinking enough to enjoy the alcohol without actually taking himself to far but with the revelations from earlier in the day as well as the comments given by a certain snippy slip of a female, he just wanted to drink. He wasn't out to get a light buz or slightly tipsy... he wanted to get downright smashed!
Opening the door to his apartment, Jacen stepped inside and slammed it closed behind him. Without even a glance around the rest of his apartment he walked into the kitchen and set his bag on the counter. Quickly fishing out a bottle of whiskey, Jacen twisted the lid viciouly, ripping through the seal and unscrewing the bottle in what might have seemed like record time. Pouring the liquid into the largest and closest glass he could find, Jacen lifted the vessel to his lips and downed everything that was in it in one large swallow.
Slamming the glass back down on the counter rather forcefully Jacen finally vented all of his feelings with one forceful word. "DAMN!"
"I'll have to keep you in mind the next time I want to go dancing." Jacen replied with a grin and slight chuckle, "You make a good partner that can handle good conversation too. Plenty of good points there."
Kealey seemed to be going right along with his suggestion that a massage might be in the cards next but she didn't address the question directly. Instead, she seemed quite content to just let the innuendo hang in the air, waiting for one of them to make a final decision about it.
It was amazing just how sexy Kealey could look, even when she was blushing. The redness of her embaressment was so much like the flush of physical exertion that it made Jacen's mind once again rush to the gutter. Even as he tried to bring his thoughts back under control, he was thankful that Kealey couldn't read his emotion. Otherwise she'd just think he was a pervert like so many other men that she'd met before.
"If you decide to do it, I'll make sure to book a private show." Jacen said slyly, the heat in his eyes growing ever so slightly. It was entertaining and tantalizing to think about Kealey shedding everythign but her 'knickers'. It even brought up the question of what kind of under garments she would be wearing. What were the normal ones she had in her drawers? Did she prefer something a little more modest or did she like the feeling of being risque underneath her more conservative clothing?
"So what now?"
The words seemed to hang in the air, and for a moment Jacen was seriously toying with giving in to temptation. A massage and some kissing could quite possibly lead to his discovering exactly what kind of 'knickers' Kealey liked to wear, as well as what was hidden beneath all of her clothing but would it be worth it? Was it worth it to having the physical pleasure while knowing that he would be hurting two women he genuinely cared about?
"Well, since the band seems to be wrapping up, I guess we can get out of here." Jacen replied with a smile, temporarily putting off the decision that he knew would have to be made in the near future, "So... do you have a CD Player at your place? We could always get some music and keep on dancing by ourselves."
"Oh, I like to dance but it's not as much fun to go out and randomly pick a girl to dance with." Jacen replied with a grin, "As soon as I find a steady dance partner maybe I'll do it more often, but until then I'll just try to keep in step as they say."
Kealey's comment about his 'jack of all trades' comment brought out a laugh from the man. He had actually been tempted to say that exact same phrase but had decided that he shouldn't. "Master of none describes me pretty well." He replied with his own mischievous grin, "And you've got the steps right though not necessarily in that order. After all, I saved you from the emotions around you, gave you a good night kiss, and then took you dancing. Haven't even gotten to the massage yet."
Was that an offer? Had he just offered to give Kealey a massage? Maybe he had, and maybe he hadn't. That was up to her to decide and for him to either enjoy or regret as soon as she made her decision. How in the world had he let those words out of his mouth anyway? He was seeing Lori for crying out loud! LORI! The hot blond, magnetic manipulator. What was he even doing here right now?
Suddenly all thoughts of regret were completely blown away as he listened to Kealey describe a possible dance costume. Without any warning his imagination was suddenly running rampant with images of Kealey dressed in skimpy green outfits with large Shamrocks covering all the right areas.
"Control... control..." Jacen tried to say over and over in his mind even as his eyes picked up a touch of heat from the vivid images flowing through his mind.
"Knowing you... a job where you keep your knickers on would probably be better, though I have to admit, I'd probably be front row and center stage if you did decide to try something like that." Jacen replied, still teasing the young woman even though it was now tinged with a bit of honesty. How in the world had he gotten himself into a situation like this?
"Fairly often, no, but often enough." Jacen replied with a slight grin as he sipped at the remains of his beer. Waving over the waitress he held back a chuckle at Kealey's last remark and ordered himself a glass of water since his alcoholic beverage was now empty. Once the waitress had checked to see whether Kealey needed anything else, Jacen turned back to his blond friend and gave her his most winning smile.
"I try to be a jack of all trades." He answered, his tone just a touch suggestive. The sight of the slight blush on Kealey's face made his grin broaden slightly as he continued. "Although rescuing damsels and kissing are probably where I've put in the most practice. But I also worked at mastering my massage technique. Not quite up to professional standards but it's still quite relaxing I'm told. Feet, shoulders, and back are my specialty."
There was nothing wrong with flirting. At least that was what Jacen kept trying to tell himself. It was just to easy to slip back into this mode with Kealey, even though he knew he was currently seeing Lori. But even as he tried to lie to himself the very words he was speaking betrayed him. They very reason he'd practiced massage was because it was a good way to get women to at least partially disrobe. After all, massaging through clothing was completely different than massaging bare skin.
"No... she's just a friend. Keep things on the level. Don't put her someplace where either of you could get hurt!" Jacen tried to lecture himself but it was so hard to listen to even himself. Kealey just looked to innocent and sexy all at the same time. How could he not think impure thoughts?
"What about you? Any hidden talents I should know about?" Jacen asked with a grin, "If you're so good at feeling the music maybe you should lay aside fashion and think about exotic dancing." He teased with a quick wink, "Then you'd really have a special talent."
A guest speaker? What in the world did she think he was? Some sort of lecturer that made his living by going around to various schools? He was a frickin' S.W.A.T. officer for crying out loud!
"You're welcome for the ride... take care of yourself Vega." Jacen said as the young woman climbed out of his truck. For a few moments Jacen sat in his vehicle, making sure that the young woman got the pedestrian gate open. Just as soon as he saw her pulling the entrance open, he put his truck into gear and backed out onto the road once more.
"Drink... I need a really big drink." The man muttered to himself as he applied the accelerator, not quite squealing the tired but almost. He couldn't get home soon enough to put this whole crappy day behind him.
Jacen had to fight off the urge to just grunt some sort of non-committal reply. Now that things had calmed down in the vehicle he really didn't want to rile the young woman up again, which is what that sort of answer would probably do.
Reaching over he took the card and, after glancing at it for a moment, pushed it into his pocket so that he wouldn't lose it. "I'm not the most avid reader in the world but maybe I can stop by." He admitted after a moment, "We'll see what else life throws at me between now and then."
The invitation to come into the Mansion was met by silence, though if Vega looked at him she would see that his expression was thoughtful. He wasn't ignoring her but instead was actually thinking about the situation.
"Not now." He finally said as he pulled his truck up to the front gate and stopped, swiveling in his seat to look at the white haired woman, "I don't think I'm ready to see any more expression of shock, horror, or fear. Especially from some of the kids you have here. They're already trying to learn how to handle their abilities... they don't need me thrown into the mix from out of the blue."
"I didn't even know there was neutral ground for humans and mutants." Jacen muttered quietly. He still couldn't quite wrap his head around how he fit into the equation. Sure, Vega might run neutral ground that was neutral for humans and mutants, but would it be neutral for whatever he was? Somehow Jacen was pretty sure that most mutants would absolutely hate feeling helpless, even if they were on supposedly 'neutral' ground.
There really wasn't much else to say and so the police officer fell silent. Vega had given him plenty to think about but she still hadn't changed his mind. In fact, talking with her was just making him think about a certain female that he cared about and how she might react to the news. Would he tell her? Could he tell her? Their relationship was already on questionable enough ground as it was and something like this could easily destroy it. Now the real pressing question had to be answered. "What should I do?"
(OOC: lol. Well I guess we're in the same boat Juli because I don't really know much about western dancing either. I think I'll just kinda gloss over the dancing itself.)
IC: Kealey did amazingly well for a first time dancer and Jacen was genuinely impressed. Sure he was no expert himself, by any means, but he could tell that really Kealey was a natural. She had an affinity for the music that let her moved with the music in a way that few could imitate.
All to soon the first song was done and the two of them were joining in the rest of the dancers as they applauded the live band. As the first notes of this new strong echoed through the room, Jacen turned his attention back to Kealey.
"You did great and yes, this one works the same way. Pretty much all the dancing we do here will be, well, something akin to freestyle I guess. Pretty much do whatever you think feels good." Jacen replied with a laugh as he slipped his arms around Kealey once again, though this time a little more loosely so that they could enjoy the music.
For the next thirty to forty minutes the pair continued to move around the dance floor along with the variety of songs that the band was playing. Really they fit in pretty well with most everyone else on the floor so there was no need for either of them to feel embarrassed or out of place. Finally as the band began to wind down the two of them shared one more slow dance.
This was the part Jacen had been worried about. Moving slowly around the floor with his hands on her waist and their heads really close together it was hard not to think about the heated kiss they had shared on their previous date. Kealey's eyes were so blue and while they sparkled with happiness Jacen could still see them filled with heat.
Suddenly the music ended and Jacen took a slight step away, clapping along with Kealey for the band. Once the applause was over he gently gripped her hand and led her back over to their table where their drinks still sat waiting for them.
"Are you sure you haven't done that before?" Jacen asked, teasing the young woman slightly as he tried not to think about anything more intimate, "I'd say you're pretty much a natural."
"Your pain manipulator is a bad example. He has just as much an opportunity to cause pain as he does to relieve pain." Jacen said quietly, not even bothering to give Vega a glance. even though he didn't speak the next question is was rather obvious. Who in the world could come up with a positive for his own ability? He could nullify mutant powers which meant his abililty was only good for mutants mutants. Since he didn't particularly want to be a vigilante that meant his only option to use the ability without having to hide it would be to join up with some of the radial groups that wanted to hunt and kill mutants.
"You have to give that sort of pep talk to a lot of people?" Jacen asked after several minutes of silence. Sure, he had heard what she said. He wasn't wallowing in his own problems so much that he couldn't listen to someone else's opinion but it didn't meant he was going to agree with them. "You sound... experienced."
IT was a strange turn of events but Jacen just didn't particularly feel like fighting anymore. He felt emotionally drained and as soon as he got this woman out of his vehicle he planned to drive home and drown out his problems with some large shots of whiskey. Normally Jacen never let himself get all the way to being drunk but somehow he just knew that today would be an exception. He needed to forget everything, at least temporarily.
Things were going to smoothly for it to last and so Jacen wasn't surprised when one of the crowd finally recognized the approaching sirens for what they really were.
"COPS!" A panicked voice rang out immediately triggering a rush for the door and the freedom of the outdoors. No one wanted to stick around to answer questions and the only ones that would remain were those that had been injured or trampled. The wave was more than powerful enough to separate the small group of three that had been trying to get to the door but it also helped propel Jacen in the appropriate direction.
In a matter of seconds the police officer was outside and shoving his way down the sidewalk in order to get clear of the precarious situation he had found himself in. About half a black away from the store he ducked into an alleyway and then just watched from the shadows as he tried to see whether Isabel and Garrett would be making it out OK. Even though he didn't want those two to know his real abilities he would still rush back in if they seemed to be in trouble. It would probably reveal his lies for what they really were but he wasn't out to let anyone get killed. Not even two mutants that associated themselves with the Sanctuary.
"Yeah, there are steps to some of these dances." Jacen replied with a chuckle once the two of them were out on the floor, "Remind me to take you line dancing sometime. You'd have a blast with that."
Once she was in his arms and she had her arms on his shoulder, Jacen began to give her instructions. "For this kind of basic partner dancing the key is to just go with the music. Imagine the music being something completely physical that just moves through your body and then just start to go with the rhythm." For a moment, Jacen just let the two of them sway back and forth in time to the music and then he began to slowly move her around the floor. Thankfully the band was playing one of their slightly slower songs to this type of dancing fit quite well with it. If Kealey was as quick a learner as she bragged then maybe she'd be able to handle it when the band picked up the pace.
Even though Jacen was focusing on the dancing, another part of him couldn't ignore the sway of Kealey's hips as she moved along with the music. Dancing was lots of fun but it was also intimate and it was extremely difficult not to imagine Kealey moving to other rhythms in other situations.
"No... don't think about that." Jacen told himself sternly as he flashed Kealey a quick smile of encouragement, "We're to friendly for any sort of one night stand and there's still Lori to consider. Focus on teaching. I'm the teacher, she's the student... but what a student!"
