The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"You get one brownie point. You'd get more but I had to deduct for the impromptu swim in the lake." she teased, accepting the coffee with a nod. She took a small sip, ignoring how hot the liquid was. She didn't care if it scalded her; she needed the caffeine in her system. A larger sip was taken as they stepped outside.
"Right? People can be so rude. I should have given them all the finger." she chuckled, walking in the direction that she thought they should be headed. She wasn't really sure what to talk about, so she blew on her coffee. She was tempted to light another cigarette, but decided against it. She reeked of lake water, and didn't need to add smoke to the mix.
Charlotte leaned over and gave him a peck on the cheek. She wasn't sure if it was the alcohol, or the fact that they were going to be living together and inevitably something was going to happen. She chalked it up to fate. "Goodnight, Daniel." she whispered, scooping up Shadow in her arms as she stood up.
"I'll see you in the morning." she called over her shoulder as she made her way down the hallway. She stepped into her room and gently dropped the cat onto her bed. She turned to her closet and looked at her options as she stripped off her work uniform, tossing it into the corner. After a few minutes, she decided on a baggy black t-shirt and a pair of boxers. She fell back onto her bed, her legs still dangling off the edge.
Shadow climbed onto her chest and nuzzled into the shirt, letting out a small 'meow'. The blonde closed her eyes and let out a sigh. She wondered how long Daniel would be her guest.
Charlotte dug for another chunk of cookie dough and scooped it into her mouth. At this rate, she was just craving the cookie dough, and if given the chance she would eat it all. She scooped out a small bit of ice-cream with the tip of her finger and offered it to Shadow, watching as the small creature hopped from Daniel's lap to her, gladly lapping up the treat.
"Oh no, she can be a demon. If you don't give her enough attention, she'll scratch. A lot." she cautioned, placing a small kiss on top of the cat's head. She looked back up at Daniel and gave a slight nod.
"I don't talk about boys that much anyways, so no worries." She stuck her spoon in the ice-cream tub and left it there. She was cutting herself off. Her gaze wandered over to the clock on the wall. 1:27. Where had the time gone? "I think it might almost be time to turn in."
She gave a very enthusiastic nod. "And we'll talk about boys and I can paint your nails and we'll do each others hair!" she squeaked, spooning in another mouthful of ice-cream so she didn't have to respond to his dress comment. Her face, however, said it all. It had switched to a lovely shade of light red.
"Sometimes it's nice to just relax and eat junk food." responded Charlotte. She considered herself a connoisseur of all things junk food. She had a secret drawer in her room filled with candy and chocolates and the like. It was her rainy day stash.
Her attention turned to what she detected was an accent, but she couldn't be sure. Maybe the alcohol was making her hear things. She decided to leave it alone and address it at a later time, when she was more coherent. She picked through the ice-cream until she found a large chunk of cookie dough. Jackpot.
"I'm surprised she's so calm." she mumbled around a mouthful of cookie dough, pointing towards the cat. "Usually she doesn't let people hold her."
"I'm not sure if stealing cars constitutes good behavior.." Charlotte pondered, flicking her cigarette butt into the street as she flashed Ty a smile. She stopped and glanced at herself in the reflection of the coffee shop windows. She looked horrible. She smoothed out her ponytail and kept her head down as she entered the coffee shop. Unlike her friend, she cared very much what people thought of her appearance.
While the redhead ordered the coffee, she bent down and looked at the food in the display case. She wasn't hungry, she was just curious as to what they had. "3.50 for a muffin? Are you kidding me?" she shook her head with disgust and stood behind Ty, resting her chin on his right shoulder.
"New York is so expensive." she mumbled into his ear. "Who would pay 3.50 for a muffin?"
Charlotte let out a laugh. He was funny. Or was it the alcohol? She couldn't tell. She had passed the spins and was just plain giddy. "No no, I usually don't get this bad." she mumbled. She picked up Shadow and held her in the air, making little kissing noises. "She shouldn't bother you too much, she usually sleeps with me." she added, placing the small cat in Daniel's lap. Her eyes shifted towards the kitchen, and she pushed herself up. There was lots of food in there, and she needed to get something else on her stomach.
The blonde pranced over to the refrigerator and pulled open the freezer. She perused her options. Pizza rolls, a bag of frozen vegetables, some sausage patties, and... She let out an audible gasp. Tucked behind the vegetables was a tub on chocolate chip cookie dough ice-cream. She retrieved the tub and closed the freezer. She turned to Daniel and held the tub above her head.
"Ice-cream!" she squeaked as she grabbed two spoons from the counter. She half walked, half skipped back to the couch and plopped back down, peeling back the top of the carton. She held out a spoon to him and then dug her own into the ice-cream.
"I love ice-cream." she whispered, spooning a large mound of the cold, creamy dessert into her mouth. It was just what she needed.
Charlotte shrugged and placed the cigarette back between her lips. "I'm always down for drinks." she responded with a smile. Alcohol was probably her third favorite thing, after boys and clothing. Yes, it sounded superficial and slightly alcoholic, but who cared! "I work at a bar, actually. So you could get free drinks whenever you wanted." she added with a wink.
"Coffee sounds great. I'll let you lead the way." she answered, slowing down slightly so he could walk in front of her. "And maybe if you behave, I'll give you my number." she teased, ruffling the back of his hair with her free hand.
Charlotte plopped down on the couch, letting her head fall back. She closed her eyes and was scratching the top of Shadow's head. The spins had really hit her, and she just needed a few minutes of sitting in silence. "In through your nose, out through your mouth." she thought to herself, trying to control her breathing. She felt embarrassed. Typically when she brought a guy back, it wasn't when she was so drunk she could barely walk.
The blonde's eyes slowly fluttered open and everything seemed to stabilize. Her gaze moved over to Daniel, who was standing in the entrance to the living room. "You don't have to pay me back. And make yourself at home! You're staying here, get comfortable." she exclaimed, patting the cushion next to her on the couch. He was making her nervous just looming there.
"Is that so?" Charlotte spared an eyebrow to raise. She couldn't tell if Johnny was joking or not, but somehow the thought of him on a date with another man was enticing. She shifted in her seat and took another sip of the tea. Had the temperature risen or was it just her?
She wasn't expecting him to trap her leg, so a small yelp escaped her mouth when he did. She lifted her free leg and trapped one of his own, giving a light squeeze. She resumed rubbing her leg against his, every now and then letting her leg travel further up his. "I'm sure the legs are fond of you, too." she mused, using her straw to push around a few ice-cubes. She knew that he could control fire, but he didn't know about her abilities. Maybe she should tell him?
"You know," she began, but was immediately cut-off by a flying piece of hitting the tip of her nose, which scrunched up automatically. Did he really just blow his straw paper at her? Were they five? "You're lucky you're cute." she stated, pulling out her straw and pointing it at him. She flicked it, and watched as some of the tea in the straw flew towards him.
A performer? She could have guessed that from his act the other day in the city. She did not, however, have any clue as to what club he was talking about. She blinked a few times and shook her head. "Never heard of it." Her eyes lit up when he mentioned the circus, and she leaned forward, propping her chin up in her palm. "A circus, really? You're so lucky. I would have loved to see you perform." When she was a child, she wanted to be one of those people that rode the elephants. Charlotte also wanted to be a dinosaur, but the former seemed like a more reasonable goal.
She pursed her lips and counted back how many years she had been at Dudley's. "About two and a half years." she surmised. "But before that, I did some modeling for Victoria's Secret. My parents just about killed me when they found out." Of course she had never modeled, but she knew her date would enjoy whatever mental image he created after he heard that.
"How long have you been doing that?" asked the blonde, nodding her head towards the candle. She watched it flicker, and fought the urge to put it out. Johnny without fire was probably as bad as she was without any water around.
"It's perfect!" Coffee and cigarettes went hand in hand, almost like chocolate and peanut butter. Ooh. She made another mental note to pick up some Reese's cups. She held her hands up in a joking manner. "No offense taken."
They walked for a few minutes, and she saw a small magazine stand that she had stopped at once before. A smile spread across her face and she quickened her pace. She had found her salvation. She unzipped her purse and waved to the old man working the stand. "Could I get a pack of Marlboro Smooths?" she asked, pulling a five dollar bill from her purse. She handed it to the man in exchange for the cigarettes.
"Would you like a drag?" she wondered, after she had lit and puffed on the cigarette a few times. "It tastes kind of like peppermint." She held out her hand, the cigarette perched between her fingers.
"Yes, you're still cute." she assured, nudging him again. "We could go get a cup of coffee now, if you wanted. Unless you'd rather be clean first." she added. She was already planning a giant bubble bath when she made it home. With lots of candles. And scalding hot water.
"I feel like I'm going to have to scrub a layer of skin off to feel clean." she muttered. "Who let the lake get that gross anyways?" She shot a dark look over her shoulder towards the lake, as if she could offend it.
"And I'd like that. Something a lot more low-key." she chuckled, coming to a halt at a street corner. She looked left, and then right, and then raised an eyebrow at Ty. Which way did they have to go now?
Charlotte followed closely behind Johnny, allowing the door to swing shut behind her. Her head shook as she watched him waltz in. He really was full of himself. But it was cute, in a cocky sort of way. She slid into the booth opposite the firemancer. As she listened to the conversation between him and the waitress, she couldn't help but guess that he brought most of his dates here. Suddenly, she didn't feel so special.
"Thank you." She nodded to the waitress and opened the menu, watching as the redhead walked away. "So," she began, shifting her blue eyes to meet his own. "I take it you always bring a girl here if you want to woo her? I'm sure they all just swoon over it." Of course, she was sort of swooning too. But she wouldn't let him know that. That would ruin all the fun.
Her eyes drifted down to the menu, perusing the main courses. Everything sounded delectable, extremely Southern, and probably very fattening. She was trying to watch her figure, but she decided she could splurge tonight. The blonde glanced up at him, cocking her head slightly.
"I see some things I like, but what I really want isn't exactly on the menu." she remarked, stretching her leg out under the table so that it rubbed against his. She gave a smirk and closed her menu. "The fried chicken sounds good. And the cornbread, of course."
Their waitress- Carla, was it? Charlotte hadn't been paying much attention- brought them a pitcher of sweet tea and poured each of them a glass. She picked up her straw, peeled off the white paper, and took a sip of her beverage. She shuddered and made a face. It was like drinking liquid sugar.
"So, where do you work?" she asked, taking another small sip of her tea. It wasn't that bad. If you took small sips and swished them around in your mouth.
Just the thought of a shower brought a smile to Charlotte's face. She hadn't felt this gross in..well, ever. She had to widen her stride to keep up with Ty. When she matched his pace, she nudged him with her elbow. "You do need a shower, you reek."
She raised her arms and pulled her hair back into a ponytail. The water had made it frizz, and she preferred not to look like a frizzy mess. "I hope you know where we're going, because I have no clue." she admitted. She had a bad sense of direction to begin with, but with all the excitement of the stolen car and the cops, she had been turned around.
"I need to get cigarettes at some point." she announced, not necessarily to Ty, but just as a mental note.
"My sister is about that age." she informed, adding a head nod for extra measure. "He sure has had an eventful life." Charlotte thought to herself as she learned about his dad.
"I'm sorry to hear that." she muttered. She leaned up and pecked his cheek. She didn't really know why, but somehow her mind theorized that a kiss on the cheek would make up for all the bad things that have happened. The blonde quickly stood up and arched her back, stretching her aching muscles. She glanced around, looking for ideas.
"We could always walk? Or you could hotwire another car." The blonde was teasing him..for the most part. She had had her thrill for the day, and she wasn't exactly in the mood for another run in with the cops.
"I'm sure that stick had a great life." she retorted, letting out a small laugh. She couldn't imagine having that power. It had to be very inconvenient to see all the memories of something once you touched it. And then to keep them with you forever? Yeah, she'd pass.
"How old is your sister?" she asked, looking up at him. "And how did you not know you had one!?"
She shook her head in response to his weird comment. "I'm pretty sure any mutant out there could be considered weird. There's far worse powers out there than touching things and seeing stuff."
