The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Jacob moved to his workbench, his large extra room littered with tools and things that he knew he would need to do what he was planning. Looking up at the wall, he eyed the blueprint for his new pistol, which he had yet to come up with a name for. Something quiet and deadly… but he wasn’t too worried about it quite yet… the name would come to him, likely while he was building it. Still, the first step would be to get all the pieces the right size to perform their function, maintain structural integrity, and fit into the small handgun that he was creating. It was pretty large, to be honest, but some of the parts had to be compacted because he was putting a lot of stuff unto it.
The first thing he would tackle would likely be the hardest, and that was the forward receiver. It would have the integrated suppressor to make it very quiet and have no flash even in the darkness, a muzzle break to keep the weapon from having too much recoil, and the small SmartScope Lens, which would be able to feed a direct link to any video device with a 4x optical zoom. The SmartScope could be added a bit later, but the other parts would have to be forged into the receiver, and thus, he needed to make a mold. He knew that he wouldn’t be able to do this part without some very precise measurements, and as such, he had bought a relatively large device that could sculpt the receiver using digital blueprints. The only thing was, he had to do each individual piece, one at a time. He had spent countless hours on his computer using the CAD (Computer assisted drafting) program, getting the contours of the barrel and all the associated parts just right so they would provide the function they needed.
According to his math, everything was lined up right, but it wouldn’t be truly perfect until he tested it, which involved some risk. The smallest glitch or detail that was off, and the weapon would lock up and blow up in his face. He had numerous ways to make sure that didn’t happen, but it was never a 100% guarantee that he would get away unscathed. But then again, nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Jacob instinctively fished out a card from his inside pocket, which of course would allow simple Google directions to be looked up with ease. He waited to give it to her though, as she was addressing the person in the office. Her expression was extremely easy to read… there was something here, but they weren’t allowed to talk about it. Or, for that matter, show it to outsiders. That was fine, everyone had their secrets, and this place was no different, the only thing that made it humorous was the fact that he already knew the secret, just wasn’t allowed to touch it. Perhaps he would come back on a different day, and see about talking to someone with a little rank on their collar. Certainly someone had the authority to authorize his admission to the hangar that was down here… he just had to figure out who.
She returned, and Jacob presented the card to Regan, giving her his contact information and address for his Shop. It wasn’t anything fancy, but it got the job done. Mariusz piped up then, and he wondered for a moment the weird rotation of the conversations. Dismissing the thought, he considered what they had said, and nodded in agreement. “Whatever is allowed and seems right to you two, I’m the guest and while I’m not exactly lost, I don’t want to lead either.” It was true, but his motives were a little more simplistic… he didn’t like people walking behind him. Made him nervous. Jacob waited until the door was closed and they were on their way before popping in the question at hand. “So who’s in charge? I can’t imagine a ‘Principle’ would manage this type of school.”
Jacob cleared his head, as much as he could, and regained his composure. No chance that he was wrong about her enhancing his mutation… what else could it have possibly be? Still, he had to be careful here, because any sudden brash words and she would likely scare off. Perhaps it would be best to ensure they were in private tidings… and he thought he knew a way to make it work. “I’m sorry for bumping into you, Ma’am. Kids can be rather unruly. Perhaps if we walk together they won’t be able to swarm us so easily? I have never been in this Museum before.” All true facts, but to wait until they got inside so they could talk.
He quickly searched her with his ability, looking for something he could lock onto should they get separated so that he could find her again. His heightened abilities, which were hard to reign in at this point, found her phone and watch instantly, and while their mechanical functions were mostly electrical, thanks to his empowerment tracking them would be simple. He didn’t dare try manipulating anything mechanical… with it being over-charged, he might turn a car into a Transformer or something… That would be awkward. If she chose to, they would walk in together, and Jacob would carve a path for her if another swarm came through.
Jacob nodded again, letting him finish talking all together. “If you ever need some practice, I can help you out. I know a few pointers that might make it easier that I learned the hard way. Reaching into his inside pocket on his leather jacket, he grabbed a card that had his number on it, and using the pen that Ty brought back from writing the note to Tses, he scribbled his personal cell number on the back. He then fished out the promised $50 and wrapped the card in it. “If you need anything, you call me… and that isn’t one of those ‘make you feel good’ offers… I mean it. You are only as strong as the people you have standing behind you.”
He paused, and by his tone and the fact that he was making direct eye contact, he was dead serious too. After a moment, he allowed the money and card to be taken from his hand, and made one final comment. “Keep that pocket-knife on you, and I’ll track you down later using it as a signal on where you are. Until I get back with you, try to make that $50 last for this week, alright?” He was basically telling him to try to not steal, but he knew that likely it wasn’t going to fly all that far.
(I can edit if needbe. Just trying to figure out how to make this work.
Jacob saw them coming, but there was no true way to prepare yourself for a swarm of kids getting done with what they likely considered a very boring field trip. He usually didn’t have much of a problem, but the swarm came when he was mid-step, and as he put his foot down, he felt the tell-tale feeling of coming down nearly on top of someone else’s foot. He immediately and instinctively brought his foot up, taking a little bit larger of a step than he would have preferred, and thanks to his proximity with the young woman in front of him, he nearly stumbled into her. His hand, trying to catch himself from falling, brushed her shoulder, and it felt like his mind exploded for a moment.
He could sense mechanical things in far greater detail… and at much longer ranges… it was like his mutant ability had been put on a super-charger… and there was only one explanation. He had heard rumors that a very rare mutation didn’t have function on its own, but instead assisted other powers. Still, he never imagined that this woman could be so… but then again, he was in the Big Apple, and what about this city ever came as something you expected? Recoiling back, he stood still for a moment, trying his best to collect his mind after the experience.
He then locked onto the woman, if she was trying to flee, he wanted to talk to her. Fate had a funny way of throwing him a curveball, and talking to a fellow mutant would serve well right now… especially to find out if the effects were permanent.
He wasn’t sure if he should be happy or worried if it was true.
Jacob noted that he had caught himself, and smiled a little bit, respecting the fact that he was willing to take his words seriously and try to curb that little habit. He spoke about his ability, and Jacob nodded, remembering when his power first manifested and how it made him weak and gave him headaches. He was used to it now and had a lot more stamina, but if he did anything serious it always made him really tired. He spoke up, asking a few questions, and making a few suggestions.
“How long ago did your power manifest?” was the first, and once he had an answer, he would continue by explaining the relevance. “I was in the same boat, but you know how you gain control? The same thing as anything else; practice.” Letting that sink in, he waited for a moment before continuing. “I will talk to the guy I know, and see what kind of pay and whatnot I can line up for you. Give it a week or two… I know snatch and grab is a lot easier, but you will feel better when you know you aren’t taking something that doesn’t belong. You never know, you could accidently snatch someone’s last ten bucks that they have to buy food for their kids until payday. Trust me, you don’t want that kind of Karma on your head… she’s a mean one, and she doesn’t forget anyone.”
That being said, he considered their direction for a moment. “So where do you want to go?”
Jacob was really starting to get agitated. That was a significant thing too… he had a very strong will, high tolerance for most people, and the ability to let things go… but the people of this city were really starting to test his patience. He had chosen to take the day off, get out of the shop, away from work, and go visit a museum that was relatively near the mansion. He wanted to find someone… anyone… who would make good conversation and allow him to relax, restore his faith in humanity.
Most of that was because he had a busy morning.
He had broken up two fights… one from a group of humans picking on a mutant, and another were a young kid with powers was terrifying a crowd of people trapped in their home. Both of which were defused quickly, simply, and without any bloodshed… although there was likely some pride broken. Jacob couldn’t stand bullying of any kind… an even one on one fight? Sure, knock yourselves out… but when the odds started to tip and there was no respect between those fighting, he hated that type of pointless violence with a passion. No one had a fighter’s spirit anymore, respect for those they fought and tested their mettle against.
It was like they had no care about the Law of War. The unspoken law that every Soldier who had seen true combat knew. Jacob knew… all too well. So, as he neared the entrance, having parked his Impala a short distance away, he saw a young blonde walking towards the same place, and moved quickly, allowing himself time to open the door for her. “After you Ma’am.” He was in his traditional leather jacket, T-shirt, blue jeans and tan combat boots, and his 6’ 3” muscular frame was by no means small. After the young woman entered, he would follow.

Jacob smirked and shook his head. “It’s no big deal, just something that has always nagged at me,” he commented, talking about the ‘dude’ reference. It had a lot to do with the way he was brought up, calling his Dad ‘Sir’ and his mom ‘Ma’am’ for most of his life, he was raised with a high sense of respect for people you were having a conversation with. Some people didn’t deserve that respect, but until the time when he would make that judgment call, he would show it to anyone. He then listened intently as the young man began to speak of his stealing for a living, and was again reminded how much it was similar with Tses.
“Tses is the same way… I’ll tell you the same thing I told her. I realized that it’s not going to be something you can change overnight… all I ask is that you try. If you catch yourself, then you do like you just did with that one guy… you return the wallet or whatever it is, say that they dropped it, and look like a good Samaritan.” He then considered his ability, and a solid idea came to light that he had been considering for a while. “You would make a killing in re-sale. Always knowing exactly where something has been. Any pawn-shop would work good… used cars… anything that people sell back to a business. Would something like that interest you? I can arrange it… I know a lot of used car dealerships.” Which was the honest truth, and using his connections and bragging a bit about the young man’s talents, he would instantly be hired and probably make a lot more money than he ever did stealing.
“Jacob Corbulo,” he said, offering his hand to shake after swallowing the bite he took and setting his burger down, only for a moment. He made a mental note to stop in here more often… if he was ever in Brooklyn. Chances were that he would be, though… he would always be traveling through the city and getting the best prices for different parts that he couldn’t acquire through other means. He had a lot of cars in his junkyard, but lately he had found less and less parts that were needed. He needed to start buying more cars from the ‘totaled lot’. A simple enough place, when people wrecked and totaled their cars, they generally didn’t want to keep the wrecked vehicle. What he needed to do was get on the list for the insurance agencies and place his business out to them. They would then make the referral.
He took the final bite of his burger, and took another drink of the chocolate milk. “If you ever need any help with anything mechanical, don’t hesitate to give me a call, even if all you need is a little advice. Working on cars is my business, but fixing things is what I like to do.” That being said, he scooped up his other burger and the half-empty chocolate milk, and prepared mentally to make his way out, unless the man did have something else for him while he was here. His shop, as well as his home, was on the opposite side of the city.
It was about this time that Jacob started wishing that his ability had been one where he could read the minds of others, because she perused the shop without much to go off of as far as reactions went. He did note that she did something that he always did, and eyed each pathway to get in or out of the room… something he always did as a habit from the Army, but he wondered what reason that she would have for wanting to do the same thing. Once again, not a mind reader, and no reason to pry into something that could very easily be a sensitive subject. He knew the reasoning behind him doing it was a sort subject.
He responded simply. “Shouldn’t take long. Once I get it in here, I’ll level off the fluids, double tap and make sure there isn’t anything else wrong, and you will be on your way. 20 to 30 minutes.” Truth of the matter was, he had already known all of that when he sensed things from the car earlier, but he hadn’t done it very thoroughly. He hated overlooking things, and he wasn’t about to let his ability make him lazy as a mechanic. He enjoyed working on cars, and decided to question something entirely different. “So, just out of curiosity, what brought you out to this neck of the woods?”
Jacob smiled and gave him a quick “yes Sir,” to confirm that the object he was describing was indeed a level. After the explanation, and the request for questions, he looked like he understood the concept at the minimum, and was grateful for the help. Jacob smiled and said, “No problem Sir. I like to help when I can.” He then asked Jacob if he had done projects like this a lot, and he shook his head side to side. “Not really, but my Mom is into engineering, and they use the same principles a lot that we used for this project. She taught me a lot about that kind of thing, and I had to learn to apply it to interior weight placement when I mounted a television in my Break Room at my shop.” Never one to turn down the opportunity for a new customer, he reached to an inside pocket on his leather jacket and fished out a card.
Jacob’s Junkyard and Shop Total Vehicle Care, Parts, Towing and Restorations 1223 Ringwood Ave Haskell, NJ 07420
“It’s a stone’s throw from the edge of the city,” he said, confident that it was just close enough to get business but far enough away to avoid the problems that were associated with New York City. He loved the city in some way, because it was always changing and never dull, but he hated it too because there were just too many people with not enough to do. Idle hands usually wound up in trouble… Regardless, Jacob handed him the card, and then went back to the counter, and began to eat his burger again with gusto. He wasn’t on a date, thus, he wasn’t really worried about having his mouth full.
Jacob hadn’t really intended to leave the young man, but he did bristle slightly at the word ‘dude’. He hated words like that, but bringing it up as a point was always something he didn’t like too, as a lot of people took it offensively when he told them not to address him as such. Still, he would wait to address it until he talked to him next. He was sure that if the young man got in and stayed inside longer than five minutes, he was likely talking to Tses, but sure enough, a couple minutes afterwards he came back out, and used the fire escape to clamber to Tses’ room. After a couple more minutes, he emerged, working his way back towards the Impala, stepping in and declaring the obvious, and not so subtly asking for his money.
“Yes, I do, actually. Firstly, if it’s possible, could you refrain from using ‘dude’ and ‘bro’ and all those other slang words in reference to a person with me? I would much rather prefer Jacob or ‘Sir’. I, in turn, will show the same respect.” He paused with that, allowing that information to sink in a little bit, and giving him a chance to respond. Then he would follow up with a question he knew was likely to ruffle his feathers. “So… what is it going to take for you to leave the pickpocketing business behind? I’ve already offered Tses a job, and she said she would be willing to try her best to go straight… but what is it going to take for you?”
Jacob had finished this perch, but he could easily replay it virtually and explain each step. “First thing, you have to have the right tools. An electric drill of any kind is very good for this stuff, but you need to have a drill bit set as well.” He reached into his pocket, grabbing the drill bit he had used. “You put a small hole, level and straight, through both the mounted object, and the wall, where there is a two by four behind it.” He made the tapping motion again, tapping a hollow spot first, “that’s just drywall, and can’t support much weight,” and he moved it over to where the tap was solid, “and there is the two by four.” He then took a moment to make another note.
“You of course want the perch to be level, and it helps to have a level unless you are really good at eyeballing it. You can buy a level, as well as the drill, at any hardware store. Marking it with a pencil helps too.” He paused, letting that sink in, and then turned back towards the finished project. “The drilled hole keeps the screw from twisting or going sideways, guiding it in, but the hole has to be smaller than the screw, or the grooves won’t hold onto the wood. Once you get all lined up, you put the perch up there, use the magnetic tip of the screwdriver bit that comes with most drills,” he mentioned, holding up his power drill and showing him the bit that was in it, “and then you drill the screw into the pre-set holes. Simple as that.” It was easy to tell that Jacob had done this kind of stuff… a lot. He took a step back, and looked towards the man. “Does all that make sense, Sir?”
Jacob hadn’t actually expected a response this quickly, but he wasn’t lying, the shop could certainly use her help. The more help he had, the more time he had to focus on the important things instead of handling everything himself like he often did. He would of course keep a good relationship with his regulars, but he definitely didn’t need to greet every single person. Besides, kids would love her personality… he just hoped none of them brought a laser pointer. The thought of her pouncing around the walls chasing a little red dot was amusing, but he hoped it wouldn’t hold true. Tempted to ask, he bit his tongue on that, and responded in kind. “0930 on Monday, as long as that works for you. And just wear something comfortable and tactful. We will discuss pay and hours when you get there.”
He then waited for Regan to finish her conversation with the in processing clerk. He slipped into his state of Zen, where he didn’t focus on any one thing in the room, but allowed his eyes to take in everything. He would remain like this for now, until they left or addressed him directly. No need to interject himself when he didn’t know what he was talking about.
