The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Jacob smiled as she seemed to appreciate the work they were putting in to ensure that she had an operational phone. She then went through and began to describe what she had done, but she mostly talked about the work she had completed. “You have certainly done an excellent job thus far… and I definitely think you are the right one for this job, but what I’m asking is how you are liking the job.” It was a personal opinion that he wanted… he certainly didn’t want her to be really good at a job that she didn’t like, and they hadn’t even discussed the salary or hours yet… but before any of that talk could happen, he wanted to make sure that she liked working here. Working at some place that made you miserable was never a good idea, as it usually led to something bad happening in the long run.
Jacob waited for her to reply, but before he could, Joe returned, a smile on his face, this time much more friendly. “You are all set up, but they are asking how you are wanting to pay for the service. Nothin’ is due until next month, but they need to know if you want to pay online through an email or if you wanted a paper-bill sent to your place.” It was a legitimate concern, and something that she would have to address. Jacob turned from paying attention to Joe for a moment back towards Regan, curious what she wanted to do. He could help her out, if she needed it, but he was curious how she would react to the situation.
Jacob regarded the man with a simple nod at first, but he quickly became more passive as the barrage of questions hit him like a ‘Fire for Effect’ artillery strike. As he stopped himself Jacob smirked slightly… he knew people like him before… asking questions non-stop, curiosity driven, knowledge mongers. It was fine, honestly, but it could easily get him in trouble if talking to the wrong person. “Well your certainly used to asking questions, I’ll give you that. Hang on.” That said, he moved to the door leading to the shop and popped it open real quick. There was only one other mechanic present at the moment, but it wasn’t time to close yet. “Hey Joe. I’m going to run upstairs for a bit, buzz me if you need me, but when you get done with that, put this guys car in the bay and head home, OK?” The mechanic looked up from his current project, smiling at the aspect of an early day off of work. “You got it, boss.”
He looked to Harlan for his keys, and once provided, he tossed them to Joe, and then moved towards one of two doors behind the counter. Pulling out a single key, he unlocked it, opened it, and waited for his guest to proceed up the stairs to his home’s living room. “A little more privacy…” he said, closing the door behind him. His home was the second level of the shop, which made tax season interesting when he claimed the shop/home combo… he actually had to show the guy who did his taxes the first time in order to prove he wasn’t pulling the wool over his eyes. As he ascended the stairs, it would open up to the entryway where shoes were removed typically. Once there, an open doorway led to the living room, it having a large microswead couch facing multiple mounted television, most were little 17” TV’s, each displaying a feed from the security footage of his very cleverly concealed security cameras. Jacob immediately flipped them on once he got upstairs so he could keep an eye on things… but the six small mounted TV’s were dwarfed by a 50” LED television in the middle.
There was also two matching chairs on either side of the couch, and one of them looked particularly flattened, as it was one that he used the most. He moved to the chair instinctively and guestured towards the couch, inviting him to sit. “You want anything to drink?” he asked, moving towards the attached kitchen that was behind it and was open, everything visible from the living room. After he poured himself a glass of Vitamin D milk, and anything for his guest if requested beside alcohol, he sat in his chair and looked at Harlan directly in the eyes, a sign that he respected the man and also his way of insuring what he was hearing was true.. “So, before I answer anything that you are grilling me for, I need to know more of why you want to know… the whole truth.” It was that simple… because there was more to this inquiry than what had been explained so far, and he wasn’t cooperating until he had all the pieces to the puzzle.
Jacob’s muscles unconsciously coiled as the man reached behind his back, and although he didn’t move, his breathing slowed for just a moment as he prepared to instinctively act if the man tried to threaten him in any way. He resumed his normalcy immediately upon seeing the card, flawlessly transitioning from preparing to break his hand and disabling him to casually standing there, and if you weren’t paying close attention, you wouldn’t even realize anything happened at all. He carefully accepted the card, reading over the information and considering this. Most people wouldn’t go through this much trouble… he would hear the man out at least, truly consider what he had to say.
Private Eye set his mind on edge slightly, but it wasn’t all that far off in his own mind… but he didn’t make any comment, waiting for the man to provide more information. He did, and he wondered if his initial analysis was correct about the Insurance Companies auditing his work or something else of that nature. He waited for him to finish though, and considered it for a moment. On one hand, he could certainly understand the man’s position, assuming everything he said was true… and perhaps he could give the man a glimpse of a chance to prove it. He would hint around a bit more, and see where it led.
“You will have to forgive me… a Private Eye who works for insurance company visiting my shop and asking if I was a mutant. Add it up, and it sounds like some higher up trying to find out if I am suspected of foul play.” He paused letting the man understand his words, then took a deep breath, glancing once towards the shop door himself. “I am a mutant… my ability allows me to figure out what is wrong with anything mechanical.” He didn’t tell the man everything yet… he would see how he reacted to this information and judge his trustworthiness from there.
Jacob chuckled slightly at the mention that the students would enjoy the Shop Class. Truth was, he could probably teach lots of things, and he had, as an instructor for new Cadets hoping to become Officers at Westpoint. He did mostly combat training with them though, not a whole lot of the academics… he left that to the professors and such that knew what they were talking about. He hoped that he would get a little bit of creative freedom with it, but he still had yet to meet the person who he would need to talk to in order to make anything happen, so he would simply file the thought in his mind and let it simmer on the back burner.
Jacob swelled a little bit with pride as Talon began to mention his shop, simply because unlike a lot of people, he had made his dream a reality, and was making an awesome living doing something he loved to do anyway. “My shop can easily host the class, and we have a plethora of tools, but I suppose that thought will have to wait.” Mariusz then mentioned the greenhouse, and while he had a tiny piece of him that didn’t want to go, for fear that his very presence would kill her plants, he pushed that aside and smiled towards Regan. “By all means… I promise not to touch anything, my black thumb might murder your plants.”
Jacob listened to the young woman, nodding in understanding as she explained how she would be alright so long as she had someone to fall back on. It was likely due to some prior experience of some sort… although he had no idea what, it wasn’t his business either, so he was not going to do anything but have an open ear on the matter. “It’s a deal, so long as you don’t hesitate to come and get me. And there is a strict ‘No Respect for Employees, No service’ Policy in here too, so don’t hesitate to tell them to stop if their doing something that makes you uncomfortable.” As if to emphasize his point, he pointed to a sign that was on the wall stating in a little more elaborate terms exactly that, giving the customers fair warning.
That was about when Joe came back in with a tiny piece of plastic and metal… the Sim chip. “Sorry about that… took me a minute to find this little bee-stard.” It was obvious he didn’t want to cuss, so he used a simple replacement word, which was fine by Jacob. The man, a little bit heavy set, rough hands from many years as a mechanic and about Regan’s height moved to the counter, popped the cellphone’s backing off with practiced skill, and slid the chip in, grabbing a post it note and scribbling down the chip’s number. He then replaced the backing, pulled out his own iPhone, and grabbed the sticky note and the phone, walking out the door again to get better signal as he called AT&T to get it set up. “The man obsesses about completing a project. He wanted to get this all done for you when we finished it yesterday, but I didn’t know if you would be OK with AT&T.” That said, he simply crossed his arms and redirected his gaze to the young Tigress. “So, how was your first day of work so far?”
Jacob listened to his newest employee, to include her plight, and was surprised that he didn’t think of that earlier. Of course having a physical mutation would have additional complications on going into public places… but then the thought crossed his mind on… How did she get here without being seen? It was the ‘City that Never Sleeps’ for a reason, there was always someone around just about everywhere… so how she got through the city to Jacob’s shop was something he was relatively concerned with. Still, there was something in her voice at the last sentence that hinted at dread… so he would work about it another way.
“We might be able to do that. Joe, can you get a SimCard, and we can activate it by calling them up?” A simcard was very cheap, but necessary, and they could have her set up within the hour. “Sure… I think I have one in my truck.” He walked out of the shop’s front door, moving to his truck and rifling through his glovebox, which would take a minute. Jacob took the moment of privacy to make a query… one that he thought was important. “So you don’t do well in public places… is it going to be something I have to worry about if we get really busy?” Jacob didn’t know the details, but something was there, and he didn’t want anything to happen that could be avoided.
But in order to prevent anything, he had to know what the ‘anything’ was.
Jacob could hear just a hint of something in his voice as he exclaimed his amazement at his ability… sarcasm maybe? Or perhaps he was just trying to ham him up a bit… either way, it was false in some way… but some people were like that… that was simply the way some people communicated, but Jacob didn’t care for it. He wouldn’t hold it against him or anything, because he didn’t expect trust or respect from the man yet, but hypothetically, if he did know Jacob, he would certainly be rubbing him the wrong way. He gained a little bit of a glaze to his eyes for a moment, something he knew as recalling a bad memory, one he had seen in countless soldiers who had seen the real hell of combat.
He then gave a demonstration of his ability, and he didn’t seem shock or startled at all, simply looking at it and pondering for a moment. Certainly an interesting ability… hell, it could be useful for someone in his line of work. Get your hands in a place where your arm couldn’t get to, or have it in such a way to catch bolts as they fell… very interesting… but not something that immediately brought him trust. This man could still be anyone, capable of wanting something from Jacob, and when he asked his next question, finally coming forward and asking what he had been hinting at, he leveled his eyes and stared into the eyes of Harlan. “Even if I was, Sir, I can’t say I would trust you enough to tell you. Why?”
It was simple, concise and to the point… he didn’t trust him, and a lot of that had to do with the fact that he had beat around the bush… but if he gave a good reason for wanting to know, then he might be more inclined to share that information. But as it stood right now, he didn’t… a million things were running through his mind, but his face showed nothing but calm and collected passiveness.
Jacob grew a little more respect for the man, as he had shook his own hand, a much more rare response these days and a sign of mutual respect between the two men. He immediately kicked the bike into neutral, and slowly began to bring it towards one of the bay doors, walking beside it and pushing. He even offered to help, which was admirable, if unnecessary. “I have it, but you can either come into the bay with me while I take a look at it, or you could wait in the waiting area… your choosing.” He then thought of the legal aspect of it… and decided to add in a little bit. “If you want to come into the bay, you take responsibility for your own health and welfare though… but as long as you don’t start playing with an air tool, I think you’ll be fine.”
As he approached the bay door, Joe, the only other mechanic present, saw him approach and opened the bay door enough to get his 6’ 3” frame and the bike inside, and would close it when/if the customer entered as well. After getting the bike on the rack, he elevated the rack to get it to where he was stooping down to get at what he needed to, and began to look at the bike more in depth.
((Sorry for the shortness... need to know if he comes in with him or not))
Jacob considered what she was saying, and pondered it for a little bit. He liked working on cars, but if he could teach people how to work on their own cars, perhaps he could manage to eliminate the need for him to stay here more often than not. After all, he did have a shop to run, and although he did have capable mechanics to run the place when he was gone, he was not about to try to outsource his own job to come teach here… but perhaps there was a better way… but first he would address the other issue that seemed to be arising.
“Not bragging at all, Mariusz. Never undervalue your abilities, mutant or not. I have a multitude of skills that came from pure able bodied training… and while I will not brag about them, I won’t hesitate to use them or talk about them if necessary. Bragging would entail that you considered yourself better than others due to your abilities… and I don’t get that from you.” He finished, and then addressed them both, the idea in his mind coming to fruition.
“Alright, I think I know a way to make this work. I can start an internship class at my shop. They bring in their cars on whatever day we can coordinate, and I will teach them how to conduct repairs on their own vehicles. Then, if they learn enough and want to work there, they can, but they certainly will learn, and it won’t cost them anything but time… maybe I can talk to someone about giving a small bonus paycheck to whomever is teaching them that day for their time, but nothing too high and mighty.”
Jacob watched her reaction carefully, as the way a person received a gift was something that gave a deep insight into how they were raised and their inner character. She liked the keyboard it seemed, but the cell phone was something that she reacted particularly strongly too… and while he wasn’t sure if it was a trick of his eyes, he could have sworn she was tearing up a little bit. After he presented it to her, he smirked slightly, and moved to the counter beside her, pressing the intercom button. “Joe, could you come to the front desk, please.” A moment later, the man appeared in the doorway, using a rag to clean his hands, his creepy smile turning into something a little lighter.
“Joe is a wizard when it comes to circuit boards and other electrical stuff, so he helped quite a bit.” That explained the creepy smile earlier, as he had known something about the gift, considering he was involved directly. That was when he chimed in. “We all use AT&T since Jacob has a discount through the company. If you choose them, then you can call or text any of us without using your minutes.” It was a simple enough suggestion, and the discount was pretty decent, but Jacob knew that it wasn’t the only factor.
“I would recommend doing a little homework and making sure you get good signal where you live, before choosing, but he’s right. I get a 10% discount for all employees for the shop through them.” After all, he did services on the AT&T Vice President’s car.
The woman approached the desk, smiling at the price, which was very reasonable for the work done when the discount was put in with it. She presented a Credit Card, and the credit card machine was right next to the register where it would print the receipt for her to sign, and a copy for the customer herself. Once they were all rang up and paid for, she gave Regan a good smile, the first time she had since arriving, and took the card with the information on the Mansion. The little girl gave her a quick wave. “Bye Ms. Kitty!!” she said excitedly, and they walked out of the door together.
For the next hour, Regan would be left to her own devices, able to organize, clean, and do pretty much anything she needed to in order to complete work until lunchtime. As 1130 neared, Jacob finally came back down the stairs, Regan’s sensitive hearing likely hearing him coming down the steps, even if he was very light footed. As he came back down, he had two metallic things in his hands… both looking like they were made of metal. One was a keyboard, and the other was smaller, and couldn’t really be seen in his big hand. “Plastic and your claws don’t really mix… so I made this for you…” He presented the keyboard, made of solid metal, not plastic, which gave it a bit of weight, complete with rubber nubs on the bottom to keep it from sliding around on the desk.
He then presented the second item. “And this, is so you can activate it with a carrier of your choosing and finally be able to call if you are running late.” He presented a small, metal, flip-open cell phone. Redone completely using Tungsten metal, it wouldn’t scratch or break unless you shot it with something pretty high caliber. Both were loaded and ready to go, and he handed the phone to her for her review and inspection. All the buttons were a bit larger than traditional phones, and the screen wasn’t all that big, but it wasn’t like she could use a touch-screen anyway.
Jacob walked within, and already he could tell that they had a few mechanically inclined individuals, but either they didn’t have time, or plain didn’t want to, help the other individuals. Some of the vehicles were definitely in need of some work… but this was a ‘school’… so all sorts of people were probably living here. The large man walked slowly, brushing his fingertips across a few of the cars gently, and he looked almost like he was in pain… he felt all the problems with each one, and while normally a mechanic would be smiling due to the money that he could make, the fact that they had fallen to such a state hurt him a little.
He wanted to get to work.
But he resisted… he didn’t have permission from the owners. Instead, he broke contact, and turned to address his two hosts… “It looks like you guys need me around more than I care to admit. And believe me, a LOT of people envy the ability to fly, even in this day and age.” Mutants were becoming more common, but the number of them who could fly were still very few and far between. He paused for a moment, pondering if Regan had indeed known the owners, and then another thought crossed his mind. “Regan… you may want these people to come in before their vehicles may or may not break down… some badly.”
Jacob listened to her as she made her decision, and decided trusting a physically apparent mutant with the fact that he himself was a mutant wasn’t all that big of a deal. Who would she tell that could hurt him? Likely no one… if he had to guess, she was a recluse, her pale skin being a surefire sign that she didn’t get out much. Regardless, she had made her decision, so he moved his hands to the edge of her window frame, wrapping his large hands around it for grip, and closed his eyes a bit. “Alright… let’s see what I got.”
His hands seemed to gain about a centimeter of texture from the vehicle… the paint on the outside, metal look, and the leather of the interior. He instantly knew more about that car than anyone, all the kinks and the ‘character’ of the car. Every car was unique… even of identical makes and models… they all had little things that made them unique. After a few moments, a few mechanical clunks and chinks sounded through the car, and it started up without a problem, more smoothly than before. He opened her eyes, and let go of the car, and gave her a smile.
“You are good to go. Can you drive, or do I need to give you an escort?” Either way, it wasn’t a problem. “I can drive in front of you remotely if you need it.” The offer was there, but he gave away quite a bit of the details of his power all in one, without many words.
The mother nodded twice, once at the fact that Regan promised to be there, and second at the fact that she was going to be giving her the contact information for the school. Now that she was close, you could see the mixture of concern and weariness in her eyes… her daughter’s mutant genes had kept the woman awake more than a few nights, as some of the more traumatic emotions and events often happened when she was dreaming. The young girl giggled as she called herself ‘Miss Kitty’, and gave her an award winning smile and a big thumbs up. She was in a much better mood now than she had been, and let the tail go gently.
Jacob came back in the door about that time normally, using a clean rag to get a bit of the grease and grime off his hands, and looked towards the small group. “Your car is ready, Ma’am. I have Joe bringing it around front right now, and you will be on your way.” He then turned towards Regan, a smirk on her face. “When you ring her up, make sure she get’s the ‘Customer Loyalty Discount’ for choosing our shop to do her work. All the prices and stuff are behind the computer monitor on a laminate piece of paper. Use the barcode scanner, and it should ring up automatically.” That being said, he looked at the organization of the desk, and smiled at how quickly she was making it her own… she would be a valuable employee.
“If anyone comes in for a ‘walk-in service’, give my door a knock… I got to try to finish something. You handling everything OK?” He would wait for a moment, to see if she had any questions for him, but if not, he would smile and move to the steel door, using a key to unlock it from wandering children getting into his stuff… and then would proceed up the stairs to his home and personal workshop.
She has been incredibly friendly, both in RP and OOC, and she has been an unbelievable help to my start in the RPG. Her character, Regan, is an excellent character to RP with, and she is a lot of fun to mess with. A couple examples of such are as follows:
Looking for a Reason Regan and Mariusz deal with a VERY curious Colt, and Regan winds up with a job!
There's a Tiger at the Desk? Regan starts a job at Colt's shop, but it goes haywire as one of the customer's daughter is a teleporting mutant and scares the snot out of her!
