The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

I apologize to those waiting on posts from my characters. I had a few rl issues crop up in the last couple of days that require my full attention. I should be back on by Sunday afternoon/eve. If you need to skip me a time or two in a thread, feel free, and I will catch up then.
He ate in silence, and didn't look at Neena at all. She simply sat and waited quietly.
The sandwiches disappeared quickly, and idly she wondered if Ted had met his match in eating. For a few moments he continued to ignore her. Then,
¨you know ... when my mom punish me for some trick i did in school or something like that she send me to bed without food ..."
She continued to wait, and let him continue.
"but a exactly a hour after that she came to my bedroom with a meal and give me a big hug , you make me remember that ... ¨
She returned the sad smile he finally gave her.
¨i really miss my mom ... i miss dad too ¨
She shifted her position, and brought her legs up onto the bed, knees up. She leaned back against the wall, and put an arm around his shoulder. "I know you do, kiddo. I miss mine, too."
¨every Sunday dad and me tried to helped mom with food but we always ended eating the ingredients ... mom every Sunday bought the double of the ingredient we could eat . when my mutation awake i trick mom and ate all the ingredients , that Sunday we had to asked for pizza , that was a funny Sunday ...¨
"I can imagine," she chuckled. "What did she look like?"
Sometimes a void devoid of emotion spoke volumes more than one charged with it. At the moment Neena and Calley's lack of vocal tone seemed to put them on equal levels of 'thrilled with each other'.
Her eyes followed his path toward the Main House.
"Take care Calley," Luke called after the youth.
"I probably need to appologize to you for being involved in that..." he then turned his attention to her. "I'm sorry if I heard anything that I shouldn't have." She shook her head at him.
"I don't think he would have let you hear if he minded."
"He seems like a good guy... a little messed up on his idea of right and wrong but a decent guy."
"Yeah. I know." The emotion returned to her face all at once, in the form a somber frown. "I'm gonna have to apologize to him when we talk."
Neena tried to make it a habit to keep her personal feelings from showing with most people. It was actually a form of protection for both her and others. Teenagers and mutants were a touchy breed, and confrontation tended to end badly. Put the two in the same body and you were sitting on a landmine. However, it appeared that Calley managed to find one of the few chinks in her armor, as well as hit a sore spot in the process.
"But, you're probably wondering why I'm here when I'm well out of school... "
She blinked and turned her focus back to the visitor. She'd try and talk to Calley in a bit, preferrably before sunrise, but for the moment the role of hostess needed to take precedence.
" ....and I've had a couple of people mention about a mansion where other mutants were trained and when Calley said he actually knew where it was I was curious enough to hitch a ride. I hope that's not a problem."
She smiled at him, and shook her head. "No, it's not a problem. I'm afraid I can't give much of a tour, with the majority of the residents being asleep. But you're welcome to come in and talk."
She made a motion for him to follow her inside, and all at once noticed his eyes. She finally registered the cane as well. It appeared Calley's flood of information had done more than simply hit a sore spot. Annoyed as she was, she had to give the kid mental kudos for throwing her off-balance, simply by talking.
"My apologies," she told Luke. "I didn't notice your eyes before. Are you completely blind, or just in the eyes?"
<"Then again, he might not be blind at all,"> she told herself mentally. <"After all, your eyes are white, and you're not blind. A bit clueless, but not blind.">
Ah well. It didn't seem to be her night for finesse anyway. May as well roll with it....
Neena reentered the Infirmary, holding a plate of grilled cheese sandwiches. It was the fastest thing she could think of to make, and seemed to draw a number of the Mansion residents to the kitchen in the process.
She made her way to Iron's bed. He looked immensely depressed. And distant.
She tapped his shoulder and held the plate under his nose.
"How 'bout we get something nutritious and non-death-inducing into that iron stomach of yours?" she said quietly.
She sat on the edge of the bed once more, and waited for him to sit up.
"I doubt it compares to anything your mom would have made, but I had to make due."
She waited patiently for him to either make a move or say something.
The sound of padded and running feet, along with laughter and taunts, came from around the corner, followed quickly by the group of five teenagers and two adults they belonged to. Obviously involved in a race, the batch of people swerved a bit to avoid the two boys on their way to the pool.
"Wa-HOO!! I win!!" announced a body topped by bright yellow-green hair, moments before cannonballing into the blue waters. Six others followed in rapid succession, turning the liquid into a mass of roiling waves, and splashing anything with reach.
A dark head emerged from the middle of the laughing party, a woman that looked to be about thirty. "You so cheated, Miriam!"
"Hah! I don't think so, Bright Eyes. You're just jealous that I'm quicker!" The yellowish green head, oddly enough, belonged to the second of the two adults present, another woman.
"Sneakier, ya mean."
"Whatever works."
The dark-skin woman made a face at her companion. Abruptly she became aware of the two boys they'd side-stepped in their mad dash. Neena waved, and kicked over to the side of the pool.
"Hiya, Streak! Who's your friend?" She smiled and waved at the second youth, taking his finny appearance.
Behind her the five younger divers began showing signs of mutation dealing with the water in various aspects. One girl sat atop the blue waves as if they were solid, while another boy actually became a human-shaped blob of the liquid. You wouldn't have been able to tell that this 'pool party' was actually a class, focused on the liquid aspect of their gifts.
(OOC: My apologies for the length. Calley.... that post radiated Win. ;D)
"Hi, Neena. So... I guess you might have been wondering where I've been. These last few days. If you noticed I was gone. Which... I guess you did."
Neena didn't reply to the obvious.
"Okay. First off, this is Mister Luke Jacobs. We met earlier tonight, just sort of by the usual accident--he helped me out a little, and was interested in the place, so I brought him here. He's got nothing else to do with me. Just so we're clear."
She nodded at the man next to Calley. "Nice to meetcha, Luke. Thanks for helping him out."
Before she could say anything further, Calley began speaking once more, and started an impressive imitation of a breaking dam. Very slowly, Neena's expression reverted to the blank stare she'd arrived with.
"Umm, and about me. So. Pretty much everything you know about me is a lie. And by pretty much everything... I mean pretty much everything...."
First crack in the cement, leading to a small leak. So the kid did have family after all. No harm, no foul. A lot of young mutants came here searching for refuge from hateful families. She couldn't fault him for keeping that secret. The apartment and a solid cash flow? That would have been nice to know before alerting the police to his disappearance. Still, on the whole, not such a big deal.
"Also, I'm not a tiger shifter. I'm a multi-shifter. Always have been. I can change to any animal I've met, as far as I can tell. Tiger isn't even my favorite. I like house cats, personally. Umm... but about that."
Again, not such a big deal. Would have been nice to know, especially since such a versatile mutation could be helpful to his teammates, moreso than simple tiger-shifting.
"About that.... Isabel Duskmoor. You know Isabel Duskmoor? The girl who stabbed all those cops? Well, I kind of lived in the Sanctuary for awhile."
..... And there was Crack Number Two, setting into motion a much, much larger leak.
As she listened, Neena couldn't help but narrow her eyes slightly, though not to full 'glare' status. More like.... 'You did what?' type narrowed. It wouldn't be far fetched to say that she was not pleased with his revalation that he had involvement with the Sanctuary, the source of the midnight intruder, who had nearly killed a good friend and put the entire Mansion in danger in the process.
All right, so a small bit of anger was beginning to surface slightly.
"....But I guess that doesn't explain why I've been missing the past few days."
There was more. Lovely. She crossed her arms to watch the rest of the dam crumble.
Fighting with Father fell into the earlier category of 'Stupid, but Not Surprising'. There seemed to be a pattern developing here.... She would be very interested in seeing this new power growth, though.
"If I'm off the X-Men Trainees list in the morning, I'll understand. Completely. Either way, I'm going to try and make a new start of things, if you'll still let me stay here."
Yeah, they'd need to talk about that one. At length.
"Oh!"
.....
"And I stole a dog."
And there goes the dam. Lovely.... Just lovely....
Her gaze flicked over to the car that looked about ready to die itself, and its equally 'tunnel-traveling' passenger.
"It's good to see you again, Neena. Really. I... wasn't sure I would."
She pegged the scraggly youth with a supremely neutral look, totally devoid of any emotion, good or bad, for a full thirty seconds.
Finally she placed a hand over her eyes, and let out a resigned sigh so deep, it made the Grand Canyon look shallow.
"All right, kiddo. Take it inside, and tell the Doc I'll be right there. Then get your multi-shifting rear to you room and keep it there, until we can talk. Understood?"
She waited for the young man to retrieve his wheezing package, before turning to the older man and shaking her head.
"Well Luke, welcome to Xavier's Institute for Gifted Youngsters." Her tone indicated that 'gifted' might not be quite the appropriate word. 'Troubled' would be a good substitute....
¨i dont have any idea if the pain you are talking about is the same i am feeling. My chest hurt a lot ...just kidding but really i cant believe you sympathize with my feeling , you go through something like that ?¨
"Ssimilar," she replied simply. She had not lost her family to a murderer. Her grandmother had instead tried to murder her. It was a different type of pain, but hurt nonetheless.
Her questions seemed to spark something in Iron Mouth, and bitter words began spilling out of his mouth. She let him talk. Idly she heard an echo of an equally bitter wolf-girl saying nearly the same thing. And possibly equally as hardheaded....
"....who cares about his family ? if the family of that man knew all the things the gang did under his control they will be proud of what i did ...if anyone of the family of that bad man want revenge i will be waiting for him . i will fight with all the stupid mans that deserve to challenge my sense of justice ... ¨
Neena sighed, and withdrew her hand.
"You've got a lot to learn about justice, kiddo. And life. I'm gonna send the Doc back in, since that wound obviously isn't healed yet. I'll send you up something to eat, so don't don't start gnawing on the bed, 'kay?"
She paused for a moment. Then she smiled at him. "Then maybe you can tell me about your mother. I never did get to know mine very well."
Then she stood and left the room. A moment later the healer entered.
"All Fausto. Let me take a closer look at that wound."
The night found Neena in her favorite perch; atop the roof of the school, staring out across the landscape. Things were quiet for a change. Most of the students slept soundly, and even those of nocturnal persuasion had found peaceful perches to claim for the evening.
She scanned the estate, enjoying the luxury of not needing to protect her eyes. The darkness soothed and rejuvenated her being. The cares and worries of the day faded with the daylight, leaving her to bask in the peaceful shadows.
Her phone buzzed at her hip, tickling a bit.
"Hi. It's Calley. I've got two guests. One's kind of sick. The other's here to look around. Could we get the gates opened? Thanks."
Calley, eh? Neena quirked an eyebrow. The boy had vanished several nights ago, with no warning. It wasn't unusual for the more nomadic mutants to wander away for a few days, the ones that were in residence mainly for a bed and food. But Calley was a registered student. After twenty-four hours she'd dutifully reported him missing to the police department, careful not to mention that he was a mutant. After all, news of a tiger loose in New York would spread quickly enough that she didn't need to report that part of his persona. She'd also charged Chad with nightly sweeps to see if he could spot the missing teenager-slash-tiger.
And here he was, appearing at the gates with.... 'Two guests. One's kind of sick'?
"Be there in a sec. Lookin' forward to this explanation, kiddo," she spoke through the intercom.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Roughly five minutes later she appeared out of the shadows near the gates, dressed in her normal all-black garb, with a large white owl blazoned across the front of her t-shirt. She eyed the two males as she approached. Her initially blank expression gave way to what would be considered surprise on anyone else.
"I'm guessing I don't need to ask which one is sick?" she quipped as she entered the gate code.
"Very good at revealing others, I assume. It's an excellent talent in regards to your duties here. Mutations aside, your own gaze would be hard to lie to."
Neena simply smiled. She wasn't sure if he was being honest, polite or engaging, but either way he didn't seem to mind, so she held her gaze steady.
His phone rang, distracting her. "My apologies. Just a moment, I'll excuse whoever this is."
She nodded politely as he stepped aside. While he argued with the party on the other end, she walked over to the nearest piece of equipment, the balance beam, and pulled herself up to sit. In an attempt not to eavesdrop, she pulled out the inventory list she'd been working on earlier.
With one eye she blinked, or winked rather, and did the equivalent of pulling up a window on a computer screen, in this case, the photographic memory of the pantry's contents. A slight bluish-red tint overtook the white of her right eye. She began comparing things to the list, altering it as needed.
A slight clicking noise reached her ears, and she looked up. She turned to check the various pieces of equipment visually, but saw nothing. She turned her gaze upward, and zoomed in on the Observation Room. No one there. Odd.
" It's just amazing."
Her attention was drawn back to Jordan as he hung up and replaced his phone.
"I am quite impressed with it. It is all ran from that little console? If so, it is is truly amazing indeed."
She blinked back to normal vision and replaced her list.
"Mostly, yes," she answered. "It let's us interact with the students for basic exercises, as well as handle the occasional power spike. Most of our students are teenagers, and puberty tends to cause them a bit more trouble than the average human. Obviously."
She dropped back to the floor, and walked back toward the console. The equipment retracted into their designated areas, and the door slid open once more.
Neena waved as Streak excused himself. "Thanks, m'friend. Sorry to snap at you earlier."
¨you already knew what happen right?"
She turned back to listen to Iron. She didn't know everything, only the events directly leading to his chest wound, according to the DocProf. But she remained silent, and let him continue talking.
but you dont seems to understand what really was going on , right?...feelings are unpredictables but i you could felt what they made me felt ...that gang killed my parents two years ago, they steal all the thing that making me happy and my home and the persons i loved ..."
Neena kept her face straight, though her eyes softened a bit. She wondered if he realized how many other mutants had similar stories?
"the cops cant find the gang but a 15 years old boy can do it ? thats what people in this world call justice and laws ... i dont like humans laws ... i just make my own justice ... i am not a mad man that can blow the entire mansion cause the dinner is veggies ... ¨
Despite the humor of his last statement, Neena frowned.
"Iron, you probably won't believe me when I say I sympathize with your feelings, though I do. Pain like that never fully goes away...."
She shook her head, then reached out to touch his hand.
"But do you really think your parents would approve of what you did? That man may have had his own family, and you stole him from them. Why punish them for his stupidity? You became the person you hate so much."
Neena sighed, and sat carefully down on the edge of the boy's bed.
"Fausto, I know this is New York, but people very rarely stab other people for no reason, even mutants. Not unless you deliberately walk into the middle of a gang hotbed."
She paused, looking down at him neutrally. Then, she asked, pointedly,
"Is there something you want to tell me?"
She wouldn't normally press students for information on their backgrounds. However, from what the Doc had seen when stabilizing the boy's wound, Iron Mouth had deliberately gone looking for this fight, leaving at least one death in his wake. Neena needed to know why, and determine if he now posed a threat to the other students.
And to do that, she needed to know what had happened, from the boy's mouth.
Neena took a seat to wait while the Doc and Chris spoke. The healer kept his tone quiet enough not to be overheard. Behind her glasses, she blinked over to telescopic vision, to perform her personal version of eavesdropping; basically she read their lips to pick up what they'd said.
Her ears picked up footsteps, and she felt someone enter the room beside her.
"Hey Neena. What's going on? Is he hurt or something?"
"Hiya, Ali," Neena greeted her teammate without looking at her. She smiled, and patted the seat next to her. "He's a possible new resident. We hope he isn't hurt, but just needed to make sure."
The Doc moved out of immediate sight, leaving Chris on his own. Blinking back to normal, she turned to the heat manipulator.
"How are ya, m'friend? Behaving?" she teased.
(OOC: Sorry its a bit short. Fission, feel free to rp the Doc to say whatever you need.
Her question seemed to catch him a bit off-guard; his polished persona cracked a bit.
"No, I'm afraid not. In a way, I wish I had been. It seems like even with the stigma that is generally attached, that it would be amazing to possess such gifts. I suppose I'll have to stick to my humanity and its strengths and weaknesses."
The crack was quickly sealed, and buffed back over with an engaging smile, one which she returned.
"Everyone has a gift for something. Mutation may be a bit more obvious and dangerous than others. But in essence, what makes it a gift is all in how you use it. At least, that's how I look at it." She chuckled quietly. "I'm willing to bet, human or not, you have a special gift as well, Mr. Hornbuckle."
Back in the Foyer, Neena headed toward the basement, which housed the Danger Room. When she reached the sliding door, she placed her hand on the side panel, more for show than anything, so it would appear access was restricted. The door slid open with a soft hiss, revealing the smooth silver walls of the enormous room.
"This is our gym. It's partially automated." She sidestepped to the mini consol against the wall, and pressed in a few commands. Normal gym equipment began emerging from the walls.
"The kids like to call it the Danger Room as well, since they can use there mutations freely here, within reason of course. We try to keep the danger level minimal though."
It wasn't exactly a lie, but not really the full truth either. But it sufficed.
Despite his obvious confusion, Chris seemed happy to have their healer’s take on his condition.
"Great. If this Docwhoever can explain what's goin' on with me then things will start going my way. Sounds like a plan."
As they entered the foyer, Neena picked up a New Resident form, to have it handy later. She pointed out the various rooms, then led the way up to the second floor.
”These are the dorms,” she explained. ”Boys that way, girls that way, and adults this way. The Infirmary is at the end of the adult hallway here. How old are you, m’friend?” The question was asked as she pushed open the door to the medical ward.
”Hey Doc! Are you lurking?” she called out.
An older gentlemen leaned out of a nearby doorway, holding his fingers to his lips in a stern, ‘Be quiet’, motion. She nodded, and motioned for them to find some seats to wait. Only a minute or two passed before the man reappeared, closing the door quietly behind him.
”My apologies. I was trying to get Aiea to sleep. How can I help you?”
Neena motioned to her companion. ”This is Chris. Chris, this is our resident healer, DocProf. Chris has a potentially explosive problem.” She told the medic exactly what Chris had told her, then stood back to let the two of them talk.
"I'm not sure if there is such a true thing as chaos, Neena. Everything that seems happenstance in the world generally comes full circle"
Neena nodded and shrugged. "Agreed. Though some of us spread themselves so thin that its hard to remember which end of which circle is on its homestretch." She grinned at him. "Chaos sounds so much more descriptive."
She stood back and let him look around, while she took a closer look at him. People watching was one of her favorite pastimes. You could learn much about a person simply by their facial reactions or body reactions. But you needed both to get a truly accurate picture of someone.
Mr. Hornbuckle seemed particularly interested in the upper floors. She blinked, trying to see what a casual observer might find so enthralling up there. Building construction, maybe? Or window design? He mentioned leaving the country for long periods. Perhaps he was an engineer or something of the sort. Or perhaps he had telescopic vision and could see the titles of the books from here. There was a collection of classic Italian authors up there, like Dante and Manzoni. Perhaps a literary connoisseur? Or he could simply be a world travel with an eye for details.
Hmm... Come to think of it, she hadn't even asked if he was a mutant himself....
" This estate is an incredible resource for mutants."
Neena blinked, the compliment bringing her thoughts back to the present. She smiled a 'Thank you'.
"It's a shame that there aren't more places where young mutants can learn and train. Speaking of, where do the children practice their abilities? I doubt that outside works for everyone. Do you have a special gymnasium or something?"
She nodded. "Indeed we do. This way." She motioned back toward the hallway.
Now came the tricky part. The Danger Room. A wonderful resource to train with mutant abilities, especially the more dangerous ones. However, to simply show a potential student's parent the exact capabilities of such a place was.... not necessarily advantageous, for a number of reasons. At the same time, keeping the facility hidden was equally unwise, for at least the same amount of reasons.
How to proceed, how to proceed....
Well, in the meantime....
"Forgive my curiosity, Mr. Hornbuckle. Are you a mutant yourself?"
