The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

They went into a busy apartment store and as they did the dark yellow slowly started to fade into a mixture of blues. Dark streaked over light in swirls and whorls and other fantastical patterns. She was sad but calming down and still a little bit scared, as evidenced by the dark yellow highlights across some of her scales. Ugh, scales. She hated them. Still, she managed to get lost in the crowds with the red head and wave merrily at anyone that did look at them. Wasn't it better to look friendly than suspicious? But then being nice and friendly had turned her into a bad person somehow. Someone that the cops would hate.
"Ok."
They were behind a rack of dresses when the red head turned to her and answered another question but raised some more.
"You can handle the cops? But the cops are good guys!"
Oh but the cops apparently didn't like either of them. Did that make the red head a bad person? Like Dahlia was a bad person? Oh! The red head was a mutant!
"Oh you're a mutant too?!"
Dahlia wondered what the red head could do. She wasn't like Dahlia. She was still pretty and could wear the pretty clothes and shoes that Dahlia couldn't. Green weaved through her colors for a moment, dark and gone just as quickly as it had come.
"Um, so when we get out of the mall...where will we go?"
Because Dahlia had no where to hide and she needed to go get her stuff from that empty apartment building if she was gonna move.
Oh yes Dahlia would stay right there because the man with the gun was scary and mean and she did not want to be shot. Not at all. All she'd done was look at the pretty shoes! Why did she have to be a lizard? They wouldn't be picking on her if she wasn't! Oh she hated being a lizard! It was just wrong to be like this! Her pretty hair was gone and she couldn't wear any of her clothes and she had to pretend to like being like this or they'd be even meaner! It was enough to make her want to cry. In fact if the red haired girl hadn't tugged on her arm when she did Dahlia might have done just that. Sat and cried until the cops came and put her in jail for being such a horrible person.
"O-ok."
Dahlia got up to follow the red head. Running away from the cops was bad but Dahlia didn't want to go to jail. What if they experimented on her? Or hurt her? Or tried to take her back to her parents? Dahlia didn't want that at all. Not only that but they might figure out that she'd been thieving wallets to survive. They wouldn't like that either. Sure, she gave them back with most of the contents intact. Dahlia put them on the steps to the closest police station when she was done eating. But they'd still be angry that she'd taken the money in the first place. Angry cops did bad things.
"Where a-are we going? What are we gonna do? The cops might arrest you too if they catch you with me. You should go."
The red headed girl had clearly had nothing to do with the explosion. She shouldn't get punished for trying to help a bad girl like Dahlia. This was all Dahlia's fault somehow and she didn't want to get the nice girl in trouble!
Dahlia was glad the other girl was ok. The security guy wasn't the only person that had gotten hurt. Thankfully one of her eyes caught sight of a guy in the store on his cellphone. Hopefully he was called 911 because whatever had happened was bad and these people needed help! The guy on the ground wouldn't wake up and Dahlia didn't know what to do! People were hurt and there was glass everywhere! And then just to make things worse another security guard was pointing a gun at her! Dahlia turned toward him and focused both of her eyes on the guy.
"B-but I didn't do anything! I-I just w-wanted to make sure he was ok!"
She'd never been shot before but if it was anything like the crash then it would hurt. Dahlia didn't want to be hurt and guns were bad things. It didn't take long for her to scamper away from the security guy like the guy with the gun wanted. She sat on the floor where she'd ended up in a spot that was thankfully free of glass. Dahlia wrapped her tail around her feet and made herself as small as possible.
"I-I just wanted to help! There's a lady inside that's hurt too! Please just d-don't shoot me!"
Instead of any of the brighter colors that her skin could take, Dahlia was now entirely a dark yellow color. It wasn't her fault that this happened right? She was just a lizard girl. Had that been enough to hurt people?
He looked at her. Stared more like. It made Dahlia uncomfortable but she didn't show it. When she acted like that she got picked on more by mean people. So Dahlia had learned to act proud of what she was even though she wasn't proud at all. The mean artist man even chuckled at her. Did she look that funny? Would he not have laughed if she was still a normal girl? She kept right on looking as happy as she could without freaking people out. Some bright red and deep blue did leak into the orange, yellow, and violet but they were barely noticeable. Still, he disparaged the women again and Dahlia pouted.
"That's mean! She's a mean lady though so I guess she deserves it."
The follow up question about why she stole the lady's wallet made her turn bright red all over at being put on the spot like that. She adopted a sheepish stance and swiveled her eyes at him.
"I sorta have to if I wanna eat?"
She only stayed sheepish for a moment longer before she was babbling at the mean artist man.
"I mean I don't have anyplace to live and my parents didn't react so good to me turning into a lizard so I thought anywhere was better than there and I'll drop the wallet at a police station after I've had something to eat so that she'll get the stuff back!"
It was all one sentence and could have been taken as one word almost. Still, he offered her the hippoman and Dahlia managed an even brighter red!
"Oh goodness I wouldn't have anywhere to put him and he'd get broken or left behind when I move!"
There was a shout. That was followed by what Dahlia assumed was a pretty loud noise. Her hearing wasn't the greatest anymore so the noise had only been about the sound level of a busy sidewalk. Loud but not deafening. No what Dahlia noticed more was that the poor shoes were now a wreck. All covered in glass shards! Not to mention that poor man on the segway was probably hurt! She hadn't seen what had caused the noisy accident. Dahlia had been focused on a pair of shoes at the time and thus totally oblivious to the outside world. Not only that but there was a scared girl hiding behind her! Whoever the girl was she looked younger than the chameleon girl.
"Are you ok?"
Dahlia looked at the other girl as she said that. If it weren't for the fact that she'd turned into a giant lizard just a month ago she might be freaking out. Now Dahlia was just worried about the other girl and the man out front and whether they'd be ok.
"I'm gonna go check on the security guy. He doesn't look so good!"
With that said Dahlia picked her way across the glass strewn floor slowly and carefully. She wanted to run a bit faster but that was still awkward and she'd cut up her feet on the glass.
"Are you ok mister?"
She prodded the man with one hand and looked around for anyone who was coming to help. There had to be a nice person in the mall to call 911 for the security guy!
Just down the sidewalk from the man, the statues, and loud mean lady stood a chameleon girl. Her scaly skin was a bright red today and there were no cheery greetings for the people on the street. She walked stiffly with her eyes pointed downward. Just a block ago she'd been openly mocked for her chameleonic appearance by a fellow mutant. He'd been just as obvious as her. He had feathers for hair! But she got mocked and laughed at and Dahlia was still fighting off the embarrassment. Not like she'd chosen to be a giant lizard! The red slowly shifted to a pair of blues, one light and one dark, so that by the time she stood in view of the mean lady and the statue salesman she was light blue streaked with dark blue and bright red in swirling patterns.
Dahlia watched the mean lady and decided then and there that the lady probably had a few dollars too many in her purse! Surely she could afford to contribute to lunch for a clearly starving artist and an equally hungry chameleon! The girl in question, whose colors now included violet in a very bright shade, chased after the woman until she stopped at the next street corner and in the confusion of the crowd grabbed the lady's purse and relieved it of it's wallet! Happy with her score she trotted back to the artist/merchant with a wide lizardy smiled on her face that she quickly settled into a serious frown.
"What you said to that lady was mean! But I think the statue is cool!"
She waved the wallet in her awkward two fingered grip. Well she still had all five fingers but they were two fingers for all intents and purposes.
"You hungry? Mean lady's treat!"
The red and blue were gone from her skin and instead replaced with a bright melange of orange, yellow, and violet.
Shoooes. Shoes everywhere! Of every shape, size, and color imaginable! Why Dahlia was practically bursting with joy just looking at them! Shoes were totally amazing! Her scaly skin was a vibrant yellow just standing outside the store and staring in. Yes scaly. Just a month ago Dahlia had turned into a giant bipedal lizard. A chameleon in fact. She was a mutant and because of her new chameleon features Dahlia could no longer wear all the pretty shoes or clothes that she liked. Pointedly ignoring the dark green stripes making their way across the bright happy yellow, Dahlia focused instead on the fact that she could still window shop for all the pretty stuff.
Besides if she wanted to buy any of it she'd have to steal a lot of money and that was just wrong. She only stole enough to eat a little each day. There were happier things to think about though! Like all the nice people at the mall she was walking through! Dahlia waved at each of them and gave a cheery, close mouthed smile. If she were still human she might have showed teeth but she didn't have them anymore and her early attempts at greeting people with a smile like that once she'd changed hadn't gone over to well. There was a lot of screaming and running involved. The dark green stripes faded into a bright blue as she walked around and forgot about her worries. All was right with the world. Or at least ok.
Oooo another shoe store! This time she'd go inside and look at all the shoes! With a spring in her step and total obliviousness to the stares she was garnering, Dahlia entered the store and waved merrily at all and sundry. The shoes!

Character
Personality: Dahlia is a good and obedient girl, most of the time. She does have a small penchant for mischief but this is allayed by the fact that she doesn't like to play pranks alone and so will very rarely do anything if she doesn't have a partner to work with. When caught out in a prank she's quick to admit her guilt and accept her punishment. Dahlia's a sociable girl who will talk to darn near anyone, to the frustration of her parents. She's also developed a strong sense of confidence to mask just how uncomfortable her new appearance makes her. For all of that she can be somewhat gullible. Dahlia knows that there are bad people out there but bad people treat other people badly. She'd be very easy to manipulate if treated well. Hobbies/ Interests: Jewelery crafting, before running away Dahlia liked to make necklaces and such with whatever beads, string, or metal her parents would provide. She likes climbing trees and caring for plants. Also, shopping and shoes. Job or part time job and description: Being a kid and student. Morality
Good/ bad/ neutral/ other: Good. Dahlia's a good girl that does what she's told...most of the time. She does like to help play pranks on people but these are generally good natured and Dahlia doesn't like trying to play pranks by herself.
Mutations
Mutation description: Chameleon Appearance – Dahlia's mutation has given her the appearance of a humanoid chameleon.
Skin - Her skin has taken on the texture of a chameleon's skin as well as the species ability to change that color to any of a set number of colors. Dahlia herself can shift between any color in the visible spectrum (ROYGBIV). This color shifting is dependent on many things. Temperature will affect it as well as her mood. She can shift the patterns but has very little control over the colors beyond making them lighter or darker. Also, yes, she does shed from time to time.
Eyes – One of the chameleon's most notable features, Dahlia has eyes precisely like those of a chameleon. They are capable of independent movement and can see ultraviolet in addition to standard visual spectrum. In addition she can see a full 360 degrees around her thanks to these eyes.
Tongue – The other signature attribute of the chameleon. Dahlia's tongue is one and a half times the length of her body. That seven feet seven inches of tongue that can be propelled from the mouth faster than the human eye is capable of tracking and hits it's target in less than half a second. The tip is like a suction cup and coated with a thick mucus to allow things to stick to it.
Tail – It's nearly the same length as Dahlia's body at five feet and is prehensile.
Horns – There are two horns on Dahlia's forehead. One right between the eyes and one about an inch above it. The lower of the two is two and a half inches long while the upper is only two inches. They are made of a hard bone like material, though not quite as hard as human bone. They are rough, with smaller jagged points along the length of horn.
Hands and Feet – Dahlia still has five fingers per hand and five toes per foot. However these have fused into two separate groupings, one of two digits and one of three digits, on each appendage. Each digit has a nice sharp claw on the end as well.
Strengths:
Climbing – Dahlia was good at climbing before the change. Now she's even better at it since her hands and feet are designed for it. The prehensile tail only helps in this endeavor.
Her tongue – Sticky at the end and can hit its target in under a second. Great for snatching small things, provided she doesn't mind tasting them.
Horns – These would be rather painful if she head butted someone with them, no?
Weaknesses:
Obvious – She's a five foot and some change, brightly colored lizard. No matter where she goes or what she does Dahlia will stick out like a sore thumb.
Hearing – Ordinary chameleons can't hear. Dahlia retains enough of her human traits that she can still hear but her hearing is very bad.
Shedding – Awkward much?
Advanced Aging - Chameleons live much shorter lives than humans do and this has affected Dahlia's aging process. For every year she spends as a chameleon her body will age 3 years. Her mind is unaffected by this and she'll continue to mature at a normal rate in that aspect.
Explanation: She does not fight. She runs away. Pros for fighting style: No injury for anyone if she can get away. Cons for fighting style: Entirely unable to defend herself if she is caught
Faction Allegiance Unaffiliated
History Of Your Character Shortly before his wife was due to give birth to their youngest daughter Brandon Lenser received a promotion with the stipulation that it required moving. However he was unwilling to attempt a move so close to his wife's due date. The company, a marketing firm, agreed to give him the needed time. Dahlia Lenser was born a few weeks later. With aid from the company the Lenser family was moved to New York City within two months of the child's birth. Dahlia grew up in New York as a result, remembering nothing of her altogether brief stay in the house in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
She was a slightly above average student upon entering school. She did all of her homework and studied, earning marks only a tiny bit above average for her efforts. The only course where this was not the case being science. Dahlia struggled with science and it took a great deal of effort on the part of her older sister Samantha as well as her teachers to bring her science grades up to par with the rest of her marks. All told Dahlia lived a fairly normal life. Sure there was a very mean chihuahua that would chase her home from school every day. However she could just scale a tree or a wall to get away from it. It still terrified her though.
When Dahlia was ten however she found something much scarier than that chihuahua. Her sister was taking her out for ice cream that day. Samantha drove a motorcycle and, though she often didn't wear a helmet she made sure Dahlia did. A car hit them from behind. Dahlia and her sister were both thrown from the bike. Dahlia lived but came away with a scar across her neck and collarbone from a piece of the bike that was torn away in the collision. Her sister didn't survive. Four years later Dahlia is still deathly afraid of motorcycles despite visits to a therapist that started soon after her sister's death.
It was only a month ago that she came into her mutation. It was the anniversary of her sister's death. Her parents always fought on that day. They loved each other dearly but the entire household was tense every year on that day. Fights were inevitable. Unfortunately the one they had at dinner that evening was worse than usual. Things were said that shocked Dahlia to her core. Right there at the dinner table her mutation sprang to life and changed her. In their shock her parents reacted badly. They gave Dahlia the impression that they were afraid of her and that they hated her now. So she ran and has been living on the streets ever since.
Roleplay Where did you learn about this site?: Google Do you have any other characters on MRO, if so who: Andrew Leroy and Cosmina Walker Sample RP:
The tip of a blue lizard tail disappeared around a corner and into an alley. Going out during the day was never easy, even if she pretended that she was proud of what she looked like. Dahlia bit down on the sandwich she'd managed to purchase before being run out of the shop. Well bite wasn't perhaps the right word. Her teeth were miniscule now, barely even there really. Gummed might have been a better choice of word. Bugs would never compare to human food no matter how much her new instincts told her they were food. They were also too small to make a decent meal for her. Sure they were enough for a normal size chameleon but one that was five feet tall and walked upright? It would take more bugs than she was comfortable thinking about to fill her up. A shiver ran down her body. It was getting too cold standing in the shadows. She needed to be back out in the sunlight again. A sigh escaped her lips and Dahlia walked back out into the streets confidently, munching on her sandwich as though she weren't a bipedal chameleon and the people were weird for staring at her.
Each person that stared was greeted with a wave and a chirpy, “Hi there!” by Dahlia. She'd learned not to smile at people pretty quickly. A toothless smile from a huge chameleon person did not inspire calm in others. In fact they tended to run the other way as fast as they could. Of course her lack of clothing probably went a long way toward that as well. Did they not realize how hard it was to find something that came in 'monstrous lizard' sizes? She couldn't shop anymore. Not only because the shop keeps would throw her out but nothing actually fit. It hurt. She'd hadn't been able to wear shoes or pick outfits since the change. Dahlia pouted, which was a very odd expression on a chameleon's face. Oh how she missed shoe shopping.
Eventually she arrived back at her hide out of the day. It was a run down house whose roof was partially gone. The large hole let in sunlight for most of the day and enough lamp light at night that she didn't freeze. It wasn't much but it did the trick. This would likely be the last night she stayed here. Come tomorrow she'd have to find a new place to crash. The cops would be along sooner or later to take her back to her parents. Even if they wanted to see her again she wasn't ready to see them. Besides, Dahlia doubted they ever wanted to see the monster that she knew she was. They'd made that perfectly clear the night she'd run away.
