The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Rebecca wanted to focus on something light, if only to give Amelia something other than stress to deal with, but the situation was too dangerous. Amelia had reason to be concerned. The ways out were all risky, and Rebecca assumed she had a secret agent doppelganger out there somewhere looking to take control of her life.
That assumption, evidently, was wrong.
The truth was unsettling. They were psychically merged? Terrifying. As much as Rebecca loved Impact, being mind-melded was still a nightmare; they were different people, and Becca liked the person she was. ”Is some ay her still up there? Loch… bits of her are ye noo?” She could not help but ask; it was a bizarre situation she had no understanding for.
”Okay, focusin'. Sae retirement isnae th' worst idea 'en, but it main still raise eyebrows. Runnin' will definitely keep them oan yer tail fur th' next forever.” Rebecca weighed the options, and none of them sounded good. That actually made her think… she had another choice that sounded just as bad, if not worse.
Rebecca winced. ”Sae. Wi' SUPER’s wee rebrandin' effort, they hae bin tryin' tae establish some kin' ay professional connection wi' th' X-Men. That's gonnae ower loch a leid balloon.” Obviously. ”But… mebbe if Ah agree tae a meetin', Ah coods try negotiatin' fur yer exit. Ah dornt know; it's a longshot, but Eh'd try it fur ye. If ye wanted.” It could also blow up in their face, and Amelia was stubbornly independent, but Becca wanted to know she offered something.

Serena was wearing her excitement on her face, which was adorable. She also did a lip bite thing that made Becca remember how she got familiar with those lips in one of her first days back in New York. Now that she was three years older and more mature, it was interesting to think back to those days. She absolutely made out with Serena, and they thankfully never made things weird. Nice to have at least one of those under her belt.
It was odd catching up with Serena and realizing how much had changed in two year. Becca knew her pregnancy was big news, but she was reminded that her relationship with Mirror was its own kind of news to someone who had been missing longer than twenty-eighteen. Becca simply beamed at the congratulations and let the chirpy hemomancer continue.
She did have to chime in as well when Serena dropped her own good news. ”Ah heard abit that! Ah’m glad Ah can finally congratulate ye oan joinin’ th’ team officially.” Serena, like Rebecca before her, had an extended tenure as a trainee, but now she was a true blue X-Men member.
Like a good friend, Serena was immediately supportive and ready to cater to Becca’s every pregnant need. ”Ye’re fantastic. Please feel free tae stick aroond for the next nine months or sae. Bit for noo, please come in? Kalos an’ Maya arenae aroond sae it’s jist us fer a bit.”

Rebecca wanted to reach Agnes. This was a woman, now a young woman, she always cared for. It hurt her to realize Agnes was lost to the Hive Queen, and now all of that was just... undone. The Hive Queen was no longer in control, or if she was, she was doing a hell of a job selling this. Maybe it was hopefulness, but Becca would choose to believe Agnes circa twenty-eleven was the one in control, and that was enough to make Rebecca happy.
It did not matter if Agnes did not remember her. It did not matter if Agnes could not look at her. Okay, that did still hurt, but it was something Becca could deal with. She just wanted Agnes to stay safe and find a way to be happy. If there was anything Becca could do to make that happen, she wanted to try.
Even if that meant flying away and giving Agnes space, or just letting Agnes cut her out like a bad missing memory. "Okay, Ah'll leave."
Becca stood carefully and levitated her shield before her, stepping onto it, her antennae swaying in the wind. "But if ye change yer mind and need anything, ye know where tae find me." The Mansion was surprisingly small when you needed it to be.
Turning away and descending toward the ground, Becca muttered softly, "Bye Aggie. It was great tae see ye again..." And somehow, it still was.

Watching Agnes miserable hurt, though at least Becca was only tangentially responsible this time. It was not easy hearing about the way Agnes’s life played out, but she was going to find things out eventually. Becca ripped off the bandaid so Agnes was not stumbling through New York lost and aimless. She needed to know who she almost was if she was going to be someone now.
Slowly Becca guided herself to the roof and took a seat near Agnes, while keeping a respectful distance. This was a new Agnes and their dynamic was something new now. That dynamic called for at least two feet of space.
Becca sighed, empathizing. ”Ye coods remake a haem at th' Mansion.” Not that Becca could blame her if that option sounded less appealing now that it was a new place to her. ”If it's nae somewhaur ye can be anymair, we can at leest help ye fin' a new place. Given th' de-agin', Juliard is still an option. Ye aced it th' first time, an' ye coods ace it thes time. Yoo'll e'en avoid trooblesome redheids thes go-roond.” At least one could hope.
Not sure how to best connect with a frustrated, struggling teen, she shrugged and chose to just be honest. ”It’s nae fair. Life as a mutant rarely is, it seems. Mah freshman year, Ah was abducted an' pit intae a nightmarish isolation.” Becca did not like thinking back to The Ragman, but it was the most notable trauma of her life. She hoped she was not off base trying to empathize. ”It mentally broke me an' in sae mony ways Ah hud tae start ower. Needed time away frae school, needed tae relearn hoo tae e’en be a person. But fowk waur thaur fur me an' Ah foond a path again.”
Rebecca leaned forward against her shield, looking out at the Mansion grounds and the green beyond the walls. ”Yoo'll fin' people, Aggie. Yoo'll start again an' yoo'll dae better. Whatever better is fur ye noo, gae dae it. Ah hae faith in ye.” Just because the life Agnes lost was imperfect didn’t make it all terrible, and it did not mean she could not forge a better life now.

Rebecca was concerned about her friend’s plan for many reasons. For one thing, she did not trust SUPER and she trusted far less how they would react to a doppelganger posing as a SUPER agent. Furthermore, now that they were seeking to legitimize themselves and ingraining their organization with the federal government, something like this could have gotten Amelia in the kind of trouble Rebecca or the X-Men would struggle to help with.
Amelia managed to recount their first battle together in the sewers, and strung together other notable memories. Rebecca felt the heat in her cheeks at the mention of the library, but focused on verifying the details being offered.
”Aw seems tae line up. Thoucht if yer nae our Amelia an’ she told ye abit th’ library, Ah’ll kill her myself.” Becca did not need that bit of information documented in a government system somewhere.
So this was Amelia, and she had gotten in too deep with SUPER. ”Sae… weel, damn. Whit’re ye lookin’ tae dae next, Amelia? Flee? Change yer name an’ hide? Ah mean. Ye coods theoretically resign, bit ‘at coods be a hard seel if th' other Ami returns.” It was an obvious answer, but Becca assumed there were plenty of risks with leaving an organization who could keep tabs on you long after you’re gone.

The Mansion had a transient energy, with people coming in and out over the years. Becca was not exempt from this; she moved out when her and Agnes were ready for their own place, then she stepped away from the X-Men for grad school. She had to return and re-adjust to the people she once knew, the people who were gone, and the new faces.
The first old face Rebecca came across was actually Serena, who pulled her own disappearing act, which was fine. Becca would not judge, because she had no grounds to stand there. All she could do was greet her friend excitedly, because it was nice to see her safe and home.
Also, the brownies were a nice touch.
”Congratulations? Whit coods a wee birdie possibly hae tauld ye tae gie ye 'at idea?” Serena was returning and greeting Becca with her own good news, so why not play dumb a bit to give her a hard time since she decided to find out somewhere else. ”Congratulations fur whit? Th' ears? Nae, it's really th' tail, reit? Ah know they ur new tae someain who hasnae bin aroond.” Rebecca smirked, and would not even comment on the apology thing, because that was just silly. Serena did not owe an apology; no, she just had to accept her teasing from Becca.

The news was taken poorly. This was expected. Still, Rebecca shared the details of Agnes’s love lives not knowing how much Agnes would struggle with her alternate reality. She knew it was possible Agnes might up and leave, but it was still disheartening to watch the younger woman pained enough to need an escape.
Becca chose not to chase Agnes. She did not need to; this was eighteen-year-old Agnes. There were two places she might go, and she might need time. Becca hoped she would not choose a third option to run away from Mansion entirely, but if she did, that was her choice.
After giving Agnes some time to get a head start, Becca put on her coat and left the office, calling her mirror shield to her. Without her harness, she needed an easy way to get around and her shield was large enough to balance on.
Her bias was obvious when she hovered out toward the greenhouse first, but Becca saw no signs of Agnes in her former workplace. With that option out of the way, Becca hovered toward the roof of the Mansion near Agnes’s old window. Sure enough, she spotted the dark-haired woman sitting and weeping, and it broke her heart.
”Ah’m sorry… she spoke softly, announcing her presence. ”Ah know this has aw been a lot.”

It was inevitable that this news was going to shake Agnes. Becca was a stranger, so how could she have let a stranger in so close? Agnes was guarded thanks to the experiences of her youth. She was also in a new, uncomfortable position feeling lost, so this news did not help.
Still, “Why?” Ouch. Rebecca pressed on. ”Why nae? The people you dated after eighteen were aw new tae ye at some point.” Everyone you knew was once a stranger, and Agnes knew nothing about the Scot sitting in front of her. There was nothing suggesting they would not have a history unless Agnes hid a secret disgust for redheads all these years.
”We met when Ah transferred tae America. Ye were ain ay mah first friends, and we got close. There was a crush on both sides.” Deep breath, because this was not a time to get lost in romanticizing nostalgia. ”Ye were datin’ Jasmine and Ah didnae e’en know Ah loched girls till Ah found ye. When Jasmine moved tae Japan, we started datin.”
After a bit of typing as she spoke, Becca moved the computer screen to show a photo from social media. A younger Becca and a slightly older Agnes sitting and holding hands on the edge of a fountain at Columbia. ”There was a bump in th’ road where we broke up and got back together, but otherwise, we were together throughit college. We only ended things when Ah moved tae Oxford for mah masters and ye got a job offer in th’ states.” And one of us should have said no, she thought to herself. A regret long since too late to retread.
”Ye moved oan eventually. At first, there was a brief time spent with a girl named Winnie, or sae ye said. Then ye settled down with River, frae yer traveling company. That went well, and ye got engaged.” She switched to a new photo, of Agnes and River showing their engagement rings. It still was not easy to say that or see it, even after everything that happened.
And then, she had to touch on everything that happened. ”And it went well. Til River had struggles with work and insecurity and eventually, drugs. She pushed ye away, and Ah’m sorry… Ah was there when she pushed tay hard.”
Becca did not look at Agnes as she finished. ”Bit ye and Ah did tay much damage tae ain anaither over the years, and ye moved oan. Frae there, Ah think ye kept it casual, bit we lost touch, sae Ah dunno.” It would do her no good to rehash the Hive Queen’s revenge or her warped way of handling relationships. She let the recap of their lives hang for Agnes to process.

Finding out about her success filled Agnes with an overwhelming sense of pride. Becca could not blame her; she had been accomplished at a young age. She also could not blame what came next. Finding out she stepped down from the Philharmonic was a crushing blow. Becca had half a mind to withhold that part, but it felt too dishonest. Agnes would be able to look it up on her own, and she deserved to know.
Rebecca wanted to give her comfort here, and knew how she wanted to, but before she could, the conversation shifted. Unfortunately for the teacher, it shifted somewhere she was not looking forward to going. Sadly, they were always going to have to talk about Agnes’s relationships.
Rebecca took a deep breath, then sighed because how did she tackle this? ”Nae right noo, though if ye did, ye’d nae remember them, and that micht crush them.” She said from experience.
There was more to say, but Agnes had to decide what she wanted to know. ”There were women in your life between your then and mah noo. Bit… Ah’m nae sure hoo fair it is tae sae mair without askin’ if ye want tae hear it. Ain ay them… well, was me.”

Pregnancy was weird. Waking up feeling nauseous was not fun. Cravings, while not new to her, were uniquely different from wanting Thai food, (though God, thinking about it, she would kill for Pad Thai.) It was still early, but she had ordered pizza the night before explicitly so she could order extra banana peppers on the side. She wanted to blame that on her pregnancy, whether or not it was the case.
Oh, and there was that other weird thing where she woke up with fox ears and a tail.
Yeah, the mystery box baby in her stomach had yet to disappoint. Whatever they had going on with their mutation, it was leaving Rebecca to switch to a new physical mutation each day. She imagined there was a cap, but had not seen duplicates yet. The changes ranged from innocuous antennae to a wicked harpy form to slightly corrosive sweat. She was glad they discovered that in the winter; when she woke up, the only major damage she had done was to the pits of her pajama sleeves.
Today, she would take fox ears as a win. It was a cute look, especially with the whiskers that kept tickling her and forcing her to scrunch up her nose. As a content creator, she was not going to miss out on this opportunity.
Pixelbecky was not a gaming ViewTuber like Vanessa and her team, but she was serviceable with a controller. After filming footage for two vlogs, one on cancel culture and one reviewing the latest Space Battles movie, she set up a livestream that was a mix of shooting the sh*t with her community, answering questions, and playing SquadBattle Strategies. It was an auto-battler, which meant it did not demand stellar gaming reflexes and she could focus on the chat. Her fans did not care if she sucked as long as she gave them more attention than the game.
Becca jumped at the knock on the door. She was getting better, but unexpected gusts still made her skittish. Of course, an attacker likely would not knock, so she calmed herself. ”Ain second, everybody! Seems ain ay th’ students micht need something.” She quickly repositioned one of the little characters on her field before jumping out of her chair and rushing to the door.
Peeking through the spyhole, Becca’s eyes widened at the realization of who was waiting. Opening the door, her toothy grin greeted Serena. ”Oy! Ah heard ye were back. Bout time ye foond me,” she teased, before pulling the blonde into a tight hug ”Guid tae see ye again, Serena. Ah…” She sniffed, twitching her nose and whiskers. ”Dae Ah smell… brownies?”

Becca could see the relief on Agnes’s face at the news of her parents, Malachi, and the cult. It was a dark chapter of her life that found ways to harass and wound her years after her abusive childhood. It hurt the redhead deeply just thinking about how Agnes was mistreated by people who should have loved her without question. People misusing the name of God for their own hateful agendas and left lasting damage on people who did not deserve it. It was that revelation that pushed Becca to become an X-Man.
And with parents out of the way and some semblance of normalcy to grow in, Agnes flourished. Becca thought about Agnes’s career path when the teen asked. ”Weel, ye went tae Juliard and yes, ye finished. Frae there, Ah wasnae aroond for a while, bit ye joined a travelin’ orchestra. That was til ye earned yer spot with th’ New York Philharmonic.” Becca smiled warmly, remembering the performance she got to attend. ”And ye were stellar, for the record.”
From there, the picture got less peppy and Becca had to decide how much Agnes would really want to know. ”Ye stepped doon when issues arose wi' yer mutation. Ye worked at a flower shop again for a while tae slow things doon, but beyond 'at, Ah wasnae aroond sadly.” That was the truth; after the shop, Becca was not around, but she did know what came next. Still, that Agnes was also the Hive Queen, and they were so different together. Would shy teenage Agnes really want to know about her sudden pivot into the life of a dominatrix? Becca chose to keep that to herself for now.

Rebecca was still wrapping her head around this change. A literal minute ago, she was ready to modify her wardrobe to accommodate for wings and tailfeathers. Now she was standing in her bedroom like a topless nightlight. This baby was becoming a bundle full of mysteries and they were not even born yet. Becca thought about Impact and her multi-powered baby. She did not want to be presumptuous, but she was betting her baby could potentially match Alex in terms of parental challenge level.
> "Did ya jus... did you just shift at midnight?"
"Ah swear, this kid better hae my freckles coz they seem tae keep haeing th' same traits as ye and they're nae e'en here yet." Mutation at (and before) birth, changing at midnight. This was definitely Gawain's kid.
> "So... is this what people mean when they talk about pregnant women glowing? How does it feel?"
Rolling her eyes, Becca took brisk steps toward Gawain and wrapped her arms around his waist. "Gawain Morris, Ah think ye jist tauld yer first official dad joke." She kissed his cheek and chuckled at the corniness of it. "Ah'm gonna need ye tae keep those comin' for nine months if thes baby is gonnae keep throwin' us surprises loch thes. Becca was certain DocProf would be fascinated by this development when she came to see him next. For now, she would just appreciate the ability to wiggle her fingers and interlock them at the small of Gawain's back. The future was weird and exciting. Holding the father of her child, she could not wait.

Maya went into the bathroom, likely to do the typical tasks of a bedtime ritual and shift while she was already in there. Becca pouted because the shifting of one body to another was a sight to behold, but they lived together now. It was hard to whine when she could watch the shift any given night by staying up an extra hour or two.
Ready for bed herself, Becca lifted the covers with her wing and saw the clock switch to midnight in the corner of her eye.
And that was when she felt an odd tingling in her stomach. Was tingling supposed to be a part of pregnancy? The sensation spread to her chest and out to her extremities. Her body shuddered and she winced as this wave of unusual sensation rippled across her skin.
She felt the light pop and grinding in her wings as, to her mystification, they turned back to arms. Standard human arms. Speechless, she saw the shift cascade out to her feet as they turned back as well Checking herself in the mirror, for a brief moment, her body was back to how she left it before going to sleep the night before.
And then the a second wave of tingling pulsed out from her core. Still watching herself, Becca could see her skin change in real-time. A glow overtook her, inch by inch, until she was left with a soft, shimmery glow from head to toe. "Wicked..."
Gawain stepped into the room, but Becca was already running over to the light switch. "Gawain, check this it!" She flicked off the light, leaving the room dark with the exception of the soft light coming off all the exposed skin not convcealed by her cotton shorts. "Also. Hi. Ah'm nae a bird anymair and ye're gonna be a dad."

Knowing she had Maya's support made the future less scary. Becca was still terrified, but she loved seeing parenthood as another adventure to share with Maya. Whoever this baby was, they would have two loving parents. "This baby is worth bein' a bird for," she decided, grinning as she cuddled up to her partner.
Becca cancelled any plans she had for the day and spent the day in the apartment, watching Binge with Maya. She did not want to do anything today besides cuddle, mentally adjust to the idea of being a mom, and preening as she smoothed out her feathers constantly.
"Ye know, nae tae brag, bit mah feathers are a very pretty shade ay magenta," Becca proclaimed playfully as she navigated removing her shirt now that bedtime was approaching. It had grown late once they got way too invested in a historical drama, Sovereignty, and midnight was approaching. Becca felt bad, because she knew being awake during a shift was weird for Mirror, but she could not help but find the process fascinating.
"Hey Maya... thanks for makin' in easy tae be excited for th' future." She planted a kiss on Maya's soft, feminine lips while they were still around and eyed the clock. 11:59. When a person went through a massive physical change every midnight, you tended to make sure the clocks were set accurately. "Noo hurry up and change; Ah wanna tell Gawain he's gonna be a dad," she teased.

Rebecca could hardly blame Maya for being surprised and terrified. She was not alone; for all Becca's talk of wanting children, now that it was a reality, this was uncharted territory. They were doing well growing into proper den mothers to the kids of the Mansion, but was that preparing them for a child of their own.
Holy hell, she was having a child with Maya. That realization was still hitting her in waves.
Becca wrapped her wings around her waist and nuzzled her head into Maya's shoulder, trying not to tickle her neck with the feathers grouped around her ear. "Blamin' Budapest seems tae be a runnin' theme with us," she joked, "bit this was always gonna come eventually, richt? Ah'm sorry it wasnae a mair planned thing." She did not want Maya feeling like Becca set everything up to spring a kid on him. This was just as much of a shock to her. Considering pregnancy had already turned her into a harpy, probably more so.
"Weel. Ye think we can dae this? Ah loove ye. Yer th' ain Ah want a family with. Jist... Ah hope we're as ready as Ah thought we were." Rebecca thought about the baby she would be meeting in less than nine months. Who would they be? What exactly was their mutation and why did it make her a bird? "Aw Ah know is Ah'm gonna loove this baby sae much. Ah want them tae grow up safe and looved and if they hae feathers, Ah hope they grow in nice and neat." The conversation was heavy, so a little levity seemed appropriate.
