The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Sam made his way down the three flights of steps that lead from the flat his family was renting to the street. Oh sure there was an elevator in the building but he was always uneasy using the damned things on his own. They always made him wonder what he would do if ever he got stuck. It wouldn’t really do to become not only a mutant but a claustrophobic one to boot. So the stairs it was and to be honest the exercise probably did him some good. He was not really a sporty type and although his Asiatic genes meant that he didn’t easily put on weight, it was always good to burn off a few extra calories.
New York smelt and felt strange to him. He had lived in two very different big cities so far but New York did not feel like either of them. First of all everything was so tall, if you wanted to see the top of most of the buildings you have a sore neck in about two minutes. So even though the buildings towered over you the whole time, you kind of had to pretend that they stopped after the first two floors. Then there was the sheer number of people, they were everywhere all of the time. It was like living in Oxford Street in London on a permanent basis.
He had only just moved, although when you thought about it “moved” wasn’t really the right word more like been deposited, here with his mother and step father a few days earlier. He hadn’t wanted to come but he figured that being negative about the whole thing would just make life harder to deal with, so he tried to make the best of it. At least it wasn’t snowing, which would have made getting around a whole lot less fun. And seeing as he had a nice long list of errands to run today he was grateful for small mercies.
He had been glad for the excuse to get away from his step dad and had made his way out of the flat and into the street in record time. But now that he was outside he stared at the white piece of paper with the neatly writing list on it with dismay. Where was he supposed to start? Where would he get half of this stuff? Things like food were ok; they had found the local convenience store on the first day, but stupid things like buy more socks? Who forgot to pack more than two pairs of socks anyway?
So for a minute he just stood in the street, in the middle of the small flow of busy New Yorkers coming or heading to work, looking at a white sheet of paper as if it could give him answers.
Sam paid and thanked the driver before climbing out of the taxi to face yet another « new beginning ». As he hauled the large suitcase out of the trunk, he decided that he would at least try and look happy about this. Although when you took the time to think about it, there really was not that much to be happy about.
His mother had decided that as soon as he finished secondary school, she would look for somewhere to “help” him, or maybe just somewhere to help her get rid of him. He knew full well that his step father only considered him a burden; someone else’s child and a freak to boot. So as soon as he was free of school the whole family had been shipped off to the states in order to find a solution.
Gone were the dreams of choosing a subject and going to university, like all the other students in his class. No, now he was nineteen and still being pushed around by his mum. As the cab pulled away Sam let out a sigh and turned to face his future. Well at least he could not accuse his mother of sending him to some dump. The place was grand to say the least, but right now it still looked a tiny bit like a prison to Sam.
His mother had been in high spirits when she had come back with the news. She has found a world renowned school to take him in and it was right here in New York. It was a lovely place where they took care of people with his kind of issues and she was sure he would love it. So sure he would love it that she had sent him here in a cab with only a quick goodbye at the door of their rented flat. Oh and the news that they were going back to England the next day. So in the end he really was good and trapped and the only way was forward.
Dragging the single suitcase that held all of his belongings he pushed himself into motion and made his way towards the imposing front door. He wondered if he would manage to finally find people to accept him here. As far as he knew everyone here was a mutant but that didn’t change that on top of being a mutant he was also Asian looking, would that be a problem here? Well worrying about that would not make it any less likely.
The door swung open easily enough considering its size and he made his way into an equally impressive entrance hall there was sign indicating admissions office “first floor”. Making his way there he handed over the pile of paperwork his mother had given him and waited for it to be processed. She had told him that all the necessary forms had been filed in and they should know of his arrival. As it turned out she was right but it also worked out that the person handling his arrival had been called away on urgent business. The receptionist could not tell him how long he would have to wait so he moved himself back out into the hallway and sat down on the top of his bag. He just hoped that it would not take too long because he had skipped breakfast and looking at the time lunch would be a welcome thing quite soon.
Hey, read Noel's biography and I recon a chance meeting would be very odd but probably very entertaining. Would you like to be the one to set the scene? For the moment Sam is living in New York with his mum so he can run into people anywhere in that area.
Well I've just got my character Sam approved *yay* and I'm now looking for a place to start him off. I'm pretty open minded as to where and when; I do plan to have him come to the mansion but it does not need to be an immediate thing.
So if anyone feels like helping me get started please let me know.

On the surface Sam has a very easy going personality. He’s quiet and always helpful and polite. Which makes him easy to get on with but also easy to forget. He has developed a kind of “barrier” personality that allows him to get along with other but never interest them. It keeps everyone at a distance and that is the way he likes it. His real personality is that of a slightly immature, horribly self conscious teenager. This comes from various incidents caused by his powers. Mutations
Mutation description:
Sam’s power would most commonly be described as a “glamour” that changes his appearance. This is an illusion created by a subconscious psychic link that is created between him and another person. He then takes on someone else’s appearance; however the person he resembles is not of his choosing. His power can only manifests in the presence of another person. When he activates his power his appearance will become that of the person his target loves most (lover, parent). Therefore he has no idea of whose appearance he will adopt until it happens. His power basically manipulates the other person’s perception of him and makes them believe that he is someone else this includes modifying his voice so that it fits with the person he is supposed to be. He is also able to see himself as the person he temporarily embodies, if he catches a glimps of his reflexion in a reflective surface while his power is active.
Strengths: He can use this to infiltrate and confuse an enemy. He can choose his target. Being able to see who he has become allows him to be a more convincing copy.
Weaknesses: The glamour is only an illusion and it is only skin tight (he has no way of projecting it). If someone touches him, they will feel his real body. So if he is not of a height, build or sex of the person he is projecting then it give lie to the illusion straight away. His power is also only limited to one person at a time. He can decide who he wants to use it on, however if there are other people in the room they will continue to see and hear his real body. When he gets emotional he sometimes loses control of his power and it activates automatically. Also the psychic link does not allow him to read minds.
Fighting Style
Explanation: Sam has no fighting experience whatsoever. He grew up in an upper class district in London and tried his best to avoid conflict in every way possible. Pros for fighting style: Confuses the enemy with his powers and may be able to get them to abandon the conflict. Cons for fighting style: Would probably be useless if it actually came to hitting anyone.
Faction Allegiance Unaffiliated as of yet but headed for the x-men (eventually).
History Of Your Character
Sam Jung. A small boy brought up between two very different cultures. The first years of his life were spent in the busy but very organized city of Seoul, South Korea. His mother was an English reporter that had fallen in love with the organized, waste nothing society and subsequently with his father. She stayed and they married, had a child and for a few years everything was quiet. Every day followed the same routine and Sam grew up happy and disciplined. Until the day his father died in an accident on a building site. Then at the age of 13 his world changed, his mother grief stricken decided to move them back to England. Gone was the routine the strict discipline that ruled the society. Instead there was rock and roll and public schools where kids go because there made to, rather than to learn anything. The shock of the change left him feeling like he had lost his place in the world. As the years passed he managed to settle somewhat, discovering music helped him to express some of what he felt. However friends were never something he made easily and whenever he felt out of his depth he would always fall back into the Korean model of politeness and respect. This would often get him laughed at and added to his feelings of isolation. The final blow fell when his mother decided to remarry. He was 16 when she told him. And after that he felt as if his last tie to the life he had known had been cut. This was the trigger for his mutation. From that day on he would often get body wide pins and needles but thought nothing of it. That and his mother would often call him by his step dad’s name when these episodes happened. He put it down to her new found happiness and ignored it miserably. These were small things annoying but no more than that. The day that he realized that something was wrong was a normal day at school. He would often stay after class to do a bit of fitness training in the school gym. That evening he stayed a bit later than usual, and as he was leaving he saw the lights still on in the dance hall. Emma one of the girls from his class was still practicing ballet. Curious he stepped into the doorway to watch. He did not know the girl well but he knew she was popular and well liked by the other students. He had also heard the girls whispering about how she liked Glenn and how they would make such a lovely couple. Lost in thought Sam was brought back to reality with a thump; the thump that was caused by Emma hitting the flour after losing her balance during a spin. He gasped and at once knew that he was about to be in a very awkward situation. Would she think he was spying? Was he spying? A wave of panic rushed over him, followed by the strange body wide pins and needles. Emma turned to see who was there and when she saw him she smiled. Relief and a slight blush of embarrassment washed over him. Then she spoke to him and things got strange. “What are you doing here so early? I told you I wouldn’t be finished till seven.” Confused he stared stupidly at her. Then she walked over to him and threw her arms around his neck. Panic returned in a flash. She must have seen it in his eyes because she laughed at him. “What are you scared someone will see us. We’ve been doing this for months and no one knows. It’ll be fine.” Months? Doing what? As gently as possible he pulled free of her and was about to tell her that she was mistaken, when he caught a glimpse of their reflection in the dance hall mirrors. The face that looked back at him was not his own, it was Glenn. Panic was replaced by outright terror. He took one step to the side, the Glenn reflection followed. Then he ran. He could hear her calling but didn’t care. Too many questions filled his mind. Questions it has taken years to answer and start to deal with. The discovery of his mutation and what it meant finish breaking what little self confidence he had. He slowly understood what was happening to him. He also realized that no matter whom he used his power on, the reflection of their most beloved person was never his.

They were moving again. Except that this time it was mostly his fault. The discovery of his mutant powers had thrown his family life into discord once more. Not that he really cared anymore; he knew why they were moving to New York. America had a better grip on the mutant situation than the rest of the world and if anyone could “fix” him they would be found here. To be honest he reckoned that his mother and step father just wanted to make him someone else’s problem. He stared blankly at the wooden floor of their new apartment. I was big enough and there was a good view of the buildings around, if you liked that sort of thing. His suitcase made a loud noise as he wheeled it to his room, everything echoes strangely in an empty room. The rest of the boxes would not come for another few days. Until then he had to make to with a bed dropped in a vast expanse of wooden floor boards and white walls. “Sam, hurry up and unpack. I want you to come shopping with me. I need an extra pair of arms to carry all the bags.” His mother’s voice carried clearly across the space. He sighed and hauled the bag onto the bed. No rest for the wicked. At least he did not have to deal with his step dad as well. It was not that he disliked the man but he had the common issue of accepting someone else trying to take his real dad’s place. Unpacking was a quick process, seeing how little there was in the case in the first place. He did however take the time to change, a chose a pair of straight cut jeans and a stripped polo shirt. Quick hair check and he was ready to go. Ready to go out in the streets of New York; ready to go out and meet his new life.
