The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

On his way to the bar, Lucas lost track of everyone he had recognized in the crowd. Paul and his new less-than-famous girlfriend had gone off to some secluded spot to compare notes or…whatever. The two girls that were by the bar when he set out had gone to the dance floor and disappeared into the sea of people writhing under the sparkling coloured lights. He was left alone with a table full of unguarded alcohol. Life was rough.
Scanning the surface of the bar, he looked for something that seemed refined and expensive for his buddy in case they ran into each other again. This didn’t seem to be a wine and cheese event so he settled on a strangely shaped bottle of Cherry Brandy. With the rest of the possible selection proving unappealing, he turned to leave and find some trouble to get into. He didn’t have to go very far.
A huge beak was only inches from his nose and two piercing eyes glared at him from over top of it. Red feathers didn’t help the appearance of a very angry birdman’s intense stare. His cronies crowded in behind and let Lucas know the seriousness of the situation without the need to open their mouths.
“Where is the girl that was just here? Red top, Bright blue eyes, black hair…” the avian mobster squawked into Lucas’ face.
The answer “Why, these goons tired of cleaning the newspaper out of your cage?” Seemed like a less than safe answer. “Polly want a girly?” Would probably be worse. A cascade of one-liners that could get his eyes pecked out clogged up his thought process so completely that the best he could do was shrug stupidly as he held in a chuckle.
Lucas new that any bird that could run a criminal organization would need to be brutally ruthless to maintain the respect of those around him but it was still really tough to hold in a laugh right now when getting questioned by an overgrown pigeon. Those eagle eyes weren’t what they used to be or maybe he could find her himself.
He understood that the girl the feathered godfather was looking for was probably the same one that had just slipped onto the crowded dance floor with Paul’s future bride but wasn’t about to make it easy. If he could get to them first, he might be able to escort them over to the other side of the room and complete his wing man duties.
Frustrated with the lack of help he was getting from the apparent shrugging simpleton before him, the mobster fluffed out his neck feathers as we shook his head with exasperation and moved on, his goons trailing along behind him like bridesmaids at a wedding.
Lucas waited a few seconds for the thugs and their boss to get clear before turning to look for Paul and see if the bat signal had been lit.

Tried to bring this up in CBox but got thwarted by computer gnomes so thought I would just post it here instead.
I’m thinking it might be fun to start an rp in the middle of an insane event (car chase, explosions, all hell breaking loose, etc) and stop it just at the peak of some high octane scenario(sort of like a TV show cliff hanger just before they cut to commercial). Then the participants could both write how they ended up there. Sort of like a flashback explaining what started the craziness, finishing off by resolving the original post’s chaos after its past is known.
Probably be simplest with a smaller group of like-minded morality but I am open of course. This is still just in the planning stage. I am assuming something like this would take a few pages to resolve so would be more of a slow growth project.

Just like that, she was gone. No dramatically romantic moment before the credits rolled. No happy ride into the sunset together. Just a simple ‘See you around’ and…..gone. Lucas stared at the back of the door for a moment longer as he listened to the sound of her walking up the hall towards the elevator and felt alone. The only person he knew in the city had just left and he was having serious doubts he would see her again.
Lucas had thought there was a connection there but did he make it up? Was she simply taking pity on some homeless guy, not knowing how else to tell him to get lost after he had helped her? It was possible but unlikely. She had kissed him last night as well. Sure, he had pressured her a bit but….
While wrestling with his thoughts, Lucas had grabbed his shoe and begun to pull it on. Something had been shoved into the toe and made the wearing of his shoe uncomfortable, shaking him from his internal monologue. Removing the sneaker again, he put a couple of fingers in and pulled out a twenty dollar bill that was crumpled up with a note. Andrew Jackson’s face looked at him with those sorrowful eyes of his, as if he felt bad for the young man. It was no consolation for the feeling that came out of the sneaker with the bill. Noel had stuffed some money into his shoe so he would find it after she left. She had looked at him and seen some homeless guy instead of the man that she made him feel like.
It felt more like a truck had hit him then a taxi and he felt the tears roll down his cheeks. He had told her about his life, his dreams and who he really was but in the end, Noel couldn’t see past some bum who needed a place to stay and a warm meal. He didn’t need to read the note. Whatever platitudes were inside would only hurt more. He chucked the paper into the waist bin beside another crumpled half written letter and put the money in his pocket, feeling ashamed but knowing that he couldn’t pass up the charity.
The worst part was that he knew that she was right to see him that way. A man is not defined by what he wants but by his actions. With his grandmother’s death, Lucas had fallen down the rabbit hole and hadn’t even noticed. His sadness and depression was ruining him and consuming his soul. He had accepted the street as his life and was afraid that he wasn’t good enough to pull himself back up….or maybe didn’t even want to.
Noel had shown him what he could be but failed to achieve. She faced her limitations head on and refused to bow to them while Lucas hid in alleys from his pain. A woman like that didn’t need some homeless guy dragging her down. She had given him a gift by showing him what he had given up with his own self anguish. Now, it was up to him to make a choice. The young man knew he could not face her again as he was. If he was to meet her in a week, he needed to be someone else. Someone he was not ashamed to be. A man, not some bum who would slink out the back exit of a hotel to avoid paying the bill from the night before.
Going to the bathroom, Lucas pulled the garbage bag out of the can and returned to the breakfast cart. Looking at all the unfinished food, Lucas felt disgusted with what he knew he was about to do. Reaching out, he began to take the uneaten portion of their breakfast and put it in the plastic bag. He wanted desperately to change his life and be the man he was when Noel was around him but he was also practical. He would have to eat, and the leftovers would keep him going for at least another day or two.

Things always seemed to go so well until Lucas opened his mouth. He felt the branch cracking under him as Noel hacksawed away at the limb he had put himself out on. Women could be so difficult to understand sometimes. The simple use of a verb in his playful banter had sunk the ship before it left port. Lucas knew that Noel was strong and independent. It was one of the things he found attractive about her. Using the word ‘need’ was not meant to make her seem weak but it had been interpreted that way somehow. A single little word. What a difference it could make.
Now, it felt like Noel was trying to let Lucas down easy. A simple peck on the cheek. A warning how she might not be there. Asking him if he was sure. If she had asked a minute earlier the answer would have been very different. Everything had been turned around. Noel had told him things would be easy at the beginning. It seemed they were passed the beginning now.
How could he be sure? They had only known each other for half a day. What was she looking for from him? Did she want a lifetime commitment before they even really started dating or was he missing the point of the question? The woman before him was complex, and though the question seemed simple, maybe it wasn’t what she was really asking. She had warned him several times that dating her wasn’t easy. Lucas was starting to understand. It wasn’t the memory loss that was the obstacle. It was the self doubt and reluctance to commit to another that was the true barrier. She was scared. Scared to rely on someone else and have them let her down. Was she really asking him if he could be counted on? There was nothing he could say to take that fear away. It would take time for her to learn to trust him.
“I’ll be there at noon.” Lucas answered. He wanted to tell her he would be there to help her if she wanted him to. That it didn’t matter if a relationship blossomed between them or not as they could always be friends. It would have been a lie. He couldn’t make that promise. No one could. That kind of commitment took both sides and Noel just didn’t seem ready to accept that and let someone else into her life. Being honest with himself, Lucas wasn’t ready for that kind of commitment either. He wanted to be near the woman if she let him but they really didn’t know each other yet. That was what dating was for. Now he understood how much her fear would prevent her from letting someone get close. He hoped she would find a way to get past it. Eventually, Lucas would need something more.
It was such a little word. What a difference it could make.

"So I guess this is goodbye. Maybe. I mean, I'll see you next week, I think." Noel said awkwardly while she looked about the hotel room to avoid looking at the man sitting on the bed. "Thank you. For helping me." She hesitated while she stood there, her duffle bag hanging from her shoulder. She looked like a girl waiting for the bus before her first day at a new school.
Lucas stood up and crossed the distance between them with a single step. His heart started to race as he stopped within inches of the woman. Raising his hand between them, he gently urged Noel’s chin upwards so he could look into her eyes. The young man held her gaze as he admired those dreamy hazel pools.
“I guess it is about time we both get going. We both have lots to do. So, yah. It probably is good bye for now”
He glided his fingers along her jaw bone and then down her neck, shoulder and arm to find her hand. Noel’s cheeks blushed softly after his caress had passed and her lips parted slightly…invitingly.
“ It was my pleasure to be of assistance and I’m glad I could help you.”
The other hand came up and brushed a few stray hairs away from Noel’s face as he moved her bangs behind her ear. His fingers continued on to her other hand and grasped it as well.
”I will be at Battery Park next week at noon. I’m looking forward to a date where we don’t have cars being thrown at buildings or us. It should be fun.”
Raising both of their hands up between them, he put her arms around his neck. It took all of his self control to keep from shaking.
“Is there anything else you might need before you go?”
A confident smile on the outside hid the nerves deep down in Lucas’ stomach. He felt like he was thirteen at his first school dance with a girl he had a crush on. Dropping his arms back down, he placed a hand on each of Noel’s hips. Not to keep her from escaping but so he could wrap her up in his arms at the slightest hint that she wanted him to proceed. Lucas knew they had to leave but one more kiss wouldn’t hurt.
With any other girl, he wouldn’t hold back but with Noel, things were different. Lucas would never be sure how she remembered him, if at all, from day to day. To kiss her now might not be what she wanted as she could see him as a stranger. Instead, he would lay the ground work, letting her know what he wanted as clearly as he could and leave it in her delicate, feminine hands. He would put himself out on a limb and wait to see if she would extend a hand or cut it out from under him. It was the only way he could see this working. If she gave him any sign he would take control, but he needed to know she was comfortable with it first.
Of course, that didn’t mean he couldn’t push her in the right direction a little bit.

"A pleasure to meet you Ms. Gretchen." Paul said as he smiled warmly at the non-celebrity they had both just met. Gretchen stretched out a black gloved hand in the older man’s direction and he accepted it, kissing it gently. The scene was straight out of a romance novel and both parties where playing it out with equal decorum. Lucas watched the exchange curiously. The woman in black hardly seemed to notice he was even there as she set her sites on Paul like a predator would stalk her prey. It wasn’t lady Gaga, but Gretchen seemed to have gone gaga over the man in the dark suit behind him rather quickly and the young mutant was feeling like a bit of a third wheel.
As Lucas had interrupted Paul checking out women in the crowd when he met him a moment ago, it was a safe bet that he was also on the hunt and the young man didn’t want to be the reason this epic romance failed. Paul seemed like a good enough guy and had helped him with the pen and paper. It would be rude not to return the favour and facilitate things with this mysterious woman.
“What are you guy’s drinking?” Lucas asked as he turned back and forth between the two people. His voice was being drowned out by the crowd and if either of them managed to hear him over the noise, they didn’t acknowledge it. They seemed to busy in some antiquated mating ritual that was reserved for the 40 plus rave scene. “Maybe, I’ll just surprise you both.” he said quietly to himself with a shrug.
Leaning towards Paul’s ear as he prepared to go, Lucas yelled to let him know the plan. “I think she is in to you. Let me play wing man and get you both some drinks to help things along. You have a much better chance with her than the blonde you were checking out earlier I bet so I say go for it.” Smiling, he patted Paul on the shoulder as he would a friend while subtly moving him into the woman’s personal space. He turned to start making his way to the bar to see if he could find wine or something equally refined for the grey fox dating circuit.
The bar could barely be seen through the crowd of gyrating bodies. Lucas hesitated for a second before plunging in again. His eyes scanned the chaos for the easiest path with least resistance. If he hugged the right a bit he could probably squeeze past the small under aged girl in the red top that was holding a bottle of vodka that seemed bigger than her. She was distracted as she looked up dreamily at some guy in a leather motorbike coat. Past them, there was the bird mobster and his cronies that were clearing a path which he would be able to follow towards the drinks. The booze didn’t seem well guarded. A couple of girls were the only security and they were just idly chatting between themselves. Coincidently, one of them was the blonde Paul had been checking out earlier. The other, had the lightest blue eyes Lucas had ever seen. If by the time he got there, things weren’t looking up for Paul, Lucas could always try to chat the two ladies up and lay the groundwork for his new friend. He wasn’t in the market but a bit of flirting to distract the brunette to help the guyl was no big deal.
Lucas leaned his head back over his shoulder to inform Paul of the backup plan, being careful not to speak so loudly that Gretchen would hear. “I actually see the blond from before talking to another woman over there. If you don’t think things are going well by the time I get over to them, give me a signal and I’ll try to chat her up for you and then you can swoop in. Cool?” It felt good to help a complete stranger like this. Lucas made a mental note to do it more often.

“You wanna add Date #2 to this?” Noel said while she draped her feet and sparkling toes across Lucas’ lap, revealing her ankle pouch and casually toying with the man at the same time. He paused his reach for a piece of buttered toast and decided breakfast could wait, turning his full attention to the feminine leg that rested on his thigh. Before his hands could find purchase, the temptress pulled her legs back from the young man’s touch and reached down herself, pulling the map out and casually tossing it between them on the bed. “Here.” She added dismissively and reached for some bacon from the breakfast tray before them.
“You keep that up and another bop on the head will seem a small price to pay for what the perv does next twinkle toes.” Lucas threatened coyly as he grabbed the piece of toast he had eyed moments earlier. Taking a fork from the edge, he pilled some eggs and bacon upon its surface and closed the sandwich with the other triangular half of bread. Taking a bite, he enjoyed the breakfast creation as he turned to bring his attention back to the map. Unfolding it on the bed beside him, he located Battery Park easily. Noticing the pen on the desk beside Noel, he motioned for her to toss it over. She did and he caught it easily between his fingers and pushed the button to free the ink from its case. Bending over the document, Lucas marked the date and time of their future meeting under the park’s name and paused before continuing.
“Did you want me to jot down what we will be doing or is it going to be a surprise?”
Looking up, he watched her as she chewed away at her bacon. She didn’t seem to catch on to his meaning right away so he figured he would spell it out before she came to the conclusion on her own.
“As you asked me out, it only seems logical that you had an idea of what we would be doing. Should I write down your idea or did you plan on surprising me then?”
Lucas didn’t think Noel had really considered the date past the initial planning stage. He did kind of force her into asking in an unintentional way. However, the attractive woman sitting across from him had knocked him on the head for admiring the view earlier and teased him further with her foot-fuelled flirtation. There needed to be some kind of retribution for these crimes. A little sudden social pressure seemed a reasonable cost for past transgressions.
“I really do like surprises.” Lucas said playfully as he put down his sandwich and started to put his t-shirt on. As he got both arms into his sleeves and started to lift the cloth up over his head he realized that this idea was actually much more devious than was meant. By forcing the woman to think about the second date, there was a better chance she would remember it altogether. She might even need to think up a good idea during the week which would be ideal. The more the thought was forced to bounce around inside her mind, the better. If he ever figured out how to harness his powers of bulls#!+ luck, he would be a rich man.
“If you need some more time to think it over, that is ok too. You can just let me know later. I’m pretty easy going.” He added with a bit of a smile as he picked up his sandwich and took another bite.
Looking about for his shoes, he discovered them strewn randomly on the floor nearby. Finding it an odd resting place for footwear did not bother him enough to ask questions. Lucas popped the last corner of his sandwich into his mouth and went to collect his wayward sneakers.

Lucas was finishing shaving and contemplating how the inventor of the shower deserved a Noble Peace Prize when he heard the faint sound of a spoon stirring coffee in the other room. Noel had gotten up and found the breakfast left for them. He would need to hurry now in case she wanted a turn in the bathroom as well. He hadn’t really needed the shave but figured with having time to burn and not knowing when the next chance would present itself that it was a good idea. Now that a line was starting to form outside, he picked up the pace. Speeding through the last few razor strokes, Lucas finished up by washing his face and throwing on his jeans. On his way out he grabbed his ratty, gray T-shirt off the side of the counter and quietly opened the door.
His eyes were greeted by two angel wing tattoos as they were being covered by the dark T-shirt Noel was pulling on over her head. The two dimples at the base of her back winked at him seductively before disappearing under the cloth as well. She had dressed while he was finishing getting cleaned up. Lucas wished he had skipped the shave now as he admired the way the shirt hugged the woman’s form.
Noel stretched like a cat as she reached over to the bed and grabbed her pistol harness. Lucas leaned on the door frame and watched her as she put it on and adjusted the straps, oblivious to his presence for the moment. The determination in the small woman had returned to her posture as she placed her gun into its holster. The agent was back in charge now. The scared girl could no longer be seen.
Glancing to beside the bed, Lucas noticed the note was now lying on its side which meant Noel had seen it and read it upon awakening. If she did not remember him from last night, she had an idea of who he was at least. He knew he had to take it slow until he could figure out how much she remembered.
“You look pretty good for someone who just rolled out of bed.” Lucas said with a devilish grin and fire in his eyes. “Wish I caught more than just the end credits of that performance.”

She had kissed him. A subtle difference that meant the world. The night could not have ended better. Her lips had felt so soft as they found his in the dark, letting him know that she was attracted to him too. It gave the young man a warm glow all over as he lay back down on his side of the bed. He felt like a giddy teenager as his eyes closed and sleep overtook him.
*****
The intrusive light bore through Lucas’ eyelids and forced him back to consciousness. It was early, too early for any sane person to awaken. Taking a quick peek, he tried to see what had happened. The curtain, left open from the night before, remained so and the morning light poured in through the window. He tried to close his eyes and ignore it but it was too late. He was awake.
He couldn’t remember the last time he had slept so well. Lucas felt fully rested and relaxed as if he had slept an entire week. The former wariness of his body had been erased in a single evening, like magic.
The events from the other day returned with consciousness, reminding Lucas of where he was. At the other side of the mattress, he saw the still form of Noel as she slept. Her back was to him and her body rose and fell in harmony with her quiet breathing. During the night, Lucas’ arm had reached out subconsciously and the back of his tattooed hand gently rested at the base of her spine, barely touching her robe. Trying not to wake her, he extracted the arm and began to lift his end of the covers so he could get up.
Raising his head and carefully rolling to the side, Lucas got to his feet and tried to creep around towards the window. He focused on each footstep and tried to breathe as quietly as he could. Every sound he made felt like a cannon shot and each slight vibration an earthquake as me made every effort not to wake her. Once there, he reached up to the curtain bar and gently tugged the top to draw the ugly brown fabric over the window and block out the light so Noel could sleep a bit longer. His task complete, he turned and made his way to the front door.
As silently as he could, Lucas unlatched the chain and opened the door. A two shelved cart awaited him there. On the top level sat a silver coloured cover which was meant to maintain the warmth of the breakfast inside. Plates, cups, cutlery, coffee, juice and the morning paper all greeted his eyes. The lower shelves were decorated with the couple’s freshly cleaned clothes and some new towels. Everything they needed to start their day. Lucas reached out and slowly rolled the cart into the room, taking his time to avoid any wheel squeaks or other unexpected noise.
Once the cart was safely in the room, he closed the door with expert care and relatched the chain. He pulled his clothes and a towel off the shelves and entered the bathroom. With Noel still in bed, he could take his time with his shower and getting ready for the day.

Staring into the mirror, Lucas vigorously rubbed the toothbrush against his back molars. The angel and devil were busy debating the merits of chivalry as he cleaned his mouth. The young man already knew the correct answer but entertained both arguments while he got himself ready for bed just the same. A quick spit and rinse later and he was ready. He managed to prepare himself in a fraction of the time it had taken Noel earlier. Well, he was a guy. Squashing the devil back down, he strolled out of the bathroom to hop back into bed.
As he turned the corner, Lucas noticed the Great Wall of China had been erected in his absence. Could it be that the Mongol horde had planned to invade the Best Western at some time during the evening?
“You building a fort?” Lucas asked as he made his way to his side of the bed.
He noticed Noel was curled snugly under her covers and seemed to have fallen asleep already. Lucas winced unconsciously, fearful he might have woken her. “That was quick.” He thought with a shrug. As quiet as a mouse, he lifted up the covers and took his time sneaking in under them so as not to shake the bed and disturb her further. He lay down on his pillow and faced away so as not to stare at the white cotton of the pillow wall until he fell asleep. The tacky beige coloring of the room wasn’t much better and his mind began to wander again. Could she really have fallen asleep that quickly? It was doubtful but possible after such a long day.
While wandering, the devil from his shoulder came back up from his previous squashing. It reminded him how Noel might not know him tomorrow. If he wanted to kiss her again, now would be his last chance. The angel made an appearance and began to protest the idea but changed his tune when the devil put him in a headlock and began to administer noogies. What could the harm be? It’s just one kiss.
Rolling back the other way, Lucas studied mount pillow in an attempt to figure out the best way to scale its perilous heights. He didn’t have a lot of experience climbing such dangerous cliffs but the reward far outweighed the risk. Deciding the quickest route was best, Lucas reached out and picked up the pillow, moving it out of the way. Had Genghis Khan been as resourceful during his raids on China?
Lucas reached a hand out and gently placed it on Noel’s shoulder. He slowly pulled her onto her back and into no-man’s land at the center of the mattress before leaning over her in the darkened room. She was only a shadow beneath him in the dark and he strained to see if she had woken. Just then, his angel broke free of the headlock by applying a reverse reach-around wegee to Lucas’ devil. As the forces of celestial power battled over his soul, the young man found himself at a crossroads. He desperately wanted to kiss the woman beneath him but had given his word to respect her wishes. Good won out again.
“I would really like to kiss you one more time before we go to sleep, if you’ll allow it.”
The devil and angel stopped fighting instantly, listening to hear how Noel would respond, if at all.

"Mind if I walk over with you? I've never seen a star up close before." Paul yelled over the crowd.
Lucas accepted the pen and pad that were offered with a warm smile. “Of course I don’t mind Paul. To be honest, I am not sure it is her but wanted to be prepared when I get there. I don’t want to look like a complete imbecile. My name is Lucas, nice meeting you.” With a quick nod in the direction of the possible pop icon, the young man turned and started to make his way through the crowd to his destination.
The veiled woman was like a beacon in the room. She seemed to glide effortlessly through the party, people parting in front of her like the red sea as she passed. Intercepting her was not as simple. No one seemed to care to let Lucas or his partner in crime pass as easily. He was sort of helping clear the path for Paul as he bumped and jostled his way to their destination, but didn’t get a chance to look back and see if he was following.
Arriving in front of the possible masked celebutant, Lucas realized he wasn’t sure what to say. If it was Gaga, she probably had stupid fans stopping her all the time. Some goonish security guard would crush him shortly for his efforts so he had to be quick. If it wasn’t her, things were even more awkward. Without a solution to his dilemma, he decided to keep it simple and blurted out the standard fan rhetoric.
“Hey! I am Lucas. My friend Paul and I are big fans. Can we have your autograph?”
He put on his best smile while motioning to the older man behind him. It was a bit of a stretch of the truth but to tell her he thought he might be able to sell her autograph on eBay seemed a bit rude.

Watching Noel make her way to the bathroom was a pleasure. There was a subtle, sensual sway to the way she walked and she probably didn’t even know it. Lucas enjoyed the one woman parade until the attractive woman disappeared through the door.
Getting up, the young man made his way over to the desk and picked up the pen and pad that were there. It might be a rough morning if Noel woke up first so he decided he would leave her a little reminder just in case. He bent over the desk and began to write.
“To Noel,
To be read in the morning if you wake up first.”
Tearing the paper from the pad, he flipped it over and continued.
“Good morning Noel,
Hope you slept well. The guy in the bed beside you is Lucas Monroe. He’s safe and there is a picture of both of you in your ankle pouch for verification. Other than cuddles and a few kisses, nothing happened last night as you have let him know to take it slow.
You met him yesterday afternoon and ended up spending the day together. He likes you and looks forward to sharing breakfast (which should be out in the hall by now along with both of your clothes). You invited him out for a second date last night and he accepted for next week. The picture in your pouch says friends right now and it is up to you if/when you want to add an update.
Lucas
P.S. I clearly stated you should read this in the morning, not now. Caught yah! ”
He figured that curiosity might take hold while he was in the bathroom so couldn’t help add the last line for a chuckle. Pleased with himself, Lucas got up and placed the note upon the nightstand on Noel’s side of the bed. He folded it so it stood up and the instruction portion would be clearly visible from the pillow when the women would awaken. He considered writing a second note and putting it with the gun telling Noel not to shoot him but that felt like overkill. One note would be enough.
Lucas rolled across the mattress to his side and melted into the bed as he waited for his turn. His mind fed back the replay of the day and Lucas closed his eyes, enjoying the simple comforts the room provided. He had taken these things for granted for most of his life. He doubted he would again after the past few weeks. It was definitely time to pull himself off of the street and get back on track.

The initial shock of the scene gone, Lucas quickly rolled into Noel's body and pushed her onto her back, trying to block the woman’s vision from the TV. He moved his hand from her hair down and put it over her eyes. He knew it wouldn’t stop her from figuring out what was happening on the screen as the sound made it abundantly clear but it was fun to tease her a bit.
“Oh no. You are way too young to be watching this kind of filth.” He joked in an exaggerated voice. “Good girls don’t watch this kind of smut.” He contemplated kissing her lips as they stared up at him invitingly but didn’t want to push her back to being scared again so dismissed the notion. She needed to feel secure if she was going to sleep well tonight and she had already asked him to back off. It would be pretty rude to ignore the request now. Lucas removed his hand and dropped back down again, ending the childish game as quickly as it began. “It has been a long day, if you want to turn off the tube and get some sleep, I am fine with that.”
Lucas didn’t really want to let the day end but he was feeling pretty tired. It had been an eventful afternoon and his eyelids had felt heavy for a while. He could keep fighting it but if Noel wanted to sleep too, he would see her in the morning. They still had a few hours together tomorrow before they parted company and Lucas would try to make the most of it.
Turning to face the woman lying next to him, he studied every inch of her face again. The pout of her lips, the long lashes and dreamy eyes, the scar across her cheek and the blush under it. He wanted to remember every bit with this mental photograph. There was no guarantee that she would remember him tomorrow and if that were the case, Lucas would rather keep the Noel that was happy and comfortable beside him as a memory.

The music was intoxicating and the party had already taken on a life of its own. The throng of people were like a living organism, feasting on the lights and sounds being fed to them by the DJ. Scanning the crowd, Lucas took it all in. This was like no party he had ever been to before. Everything had seemed pretty basic until the bird man made his speech. The red feathered man seemed to be the host of the evening and he knew how to get noticed. Feathers help but the suit he wore accentuated his air of superiority when he addressed the crowd.
Surrounding him was three body guards, two of which would have a hard time fitting in with a travelling carnival. The one on the left looked like a pumpkin stuffed into a 70s disco jumper. His body seemed to be covered in small triangular mirror like scales from this distance. To the right stood a man that glowed from the inside, gooey mucus flowed around inside his body as if in slow motion and was strangely hypnotic to look at. Directly behind the bird man was the one that scared Lucas the most. He had a nice enough suit and his hair seemed to have been the recipient of an entire bottle of gel. Other than that, he seemed completely normal. Considering his company, this guy was hiding something big and the young man made a mental note to steer clear of him.
The speech had been simple enough but let the people know he was their benefactor. Perhaps he was connected to something more powerful and this celebration was somehow related. This should be interesting. I’ve crashed some mob party hosted by big bird.” Lucas thought to himself.
Continuing to look around the room, Lucas’ eyes fell upon an extremely tall woman dressed all in black. She had a long vale obscuring her face and wore a strangely cut outfit that revealed her hips in the most original way. Her body was a bit thin and lanky but she made the ensemble work somehow. Other than the host and his entourage, she was the one that stuck out the most by far. If the dark clad woman was the person Lucas thought it was, this was a bit of a treat. Lucas always thought she lived in L.A. but it seemed she had made her way to New York for this party. He could have been wrong but there was only one way to find out and that was to go talk to her.
Pushing through the crowd, Lucas realised he needed a pen and paper if he was going to confront the woman in the lacy dress and veil. To his side, he noticed an older man in a black suit leaning against the wall at the base of the stairs. The man appeared to be in his mid-40s and had taken care of himself well. His gaze followed a blonde woman almost half his age as she made her way through the crowd towards the bar. The blonde walked with purpose and had a familiar look to her somehow. It was like Lucas had met her before in another life but just couldn’t put a finger on it.
Approaching the gentleman in the black suit, Lucas leaned in close so he could be heard above the music. He didn’t want to disturb the guy’s girl watching but figured this man was the best bet for a pen and paper in the room.
“Excuse me” Lucas yelled over the roaring sounds of the party. “Do you have a pen and paper I could borrow? I think I just saw Lady Gaga and I want to try to get her autograph.”
