The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The ride was quick and Mina paid little attention to it or the game that was played with the valet. She merely put on a happy face. She wasn't unhappy. Merely serious and thinking over her last minute mission. Hence the smile in order to blend in.
"I think I'll manage just fine. Thanks for your concern though."
Mina flashed a bright smile and a wink at the bouncer as they walked into the club. Numerous obvious mutants milled about or danced to the pounding beat of the music. Venus, as she'd expected, fit in here quite nicely. The loud music made it difficult to hear much unless it was shouted or you managed to put a wall between yourself and the speakers.
The music itself was what would make her job tonight more difficult than it had to be. The tonight or nothing nature of the job made her frown inwardly. It was too bad she couldn't just sneak into their offices and steal the appropriate documents. Annoyance aside, Mina's eyes began scanning the crowd. As a bunch of business men she had no doubt they'd stick out like sore thumbs but there was a enough of a crowd to slow down the search none the less.
Ah her dear competition recognized this for what it was. That was good. Playing with someone who recognized the game made for much more interesting playing. Would he tell the truth, thinking she'd think it a lie? Would he lie? Perhaps this game could carry on past this encounter. Provided, of course, that they both survived. There was only one time in recent memory that she could recall a game that she had been as eager to participate in. That had been driven by vengeance and the object had disappeared before the game had truly started.
"Hmmm, well I hope you play better than the last opponent I had. He disappeared far too soon. You won't disappear on me will you?"
Mina pouted prettily at him for a moment. She hadn't had a true challenge in so long that she did hope he survived today. Not enough to take it easy on him of course. That was foolishness. No Mina wanted the challenge of someone difficult to kill that knew how to play the game. She enjoyed her work and wanted to test herself.
"Martin. It's a good name. Mar-tin. Well, Martin, I hope you survive. There are so few truly spectacular individuals to play with these days."
With the split second speed and accuracy of someone that had handled a gun for years Mina fired on Maximillian. Talking was only foreplay for the real dance. Maximillian would end up dead. It almost didn't matter who did the killing. So long as the fellow ended up dead the survivor of this bout could profit from it. In the silence of her gunshot, because Mina always silenced her gun, Mina nodded her head at Martin.
Well I don't think any of my characters will be taking part but I'm totally up for Dahlia meeting any of the kiddy-fied people! Drop me a pm or something if you'd like.
Neither man seemed particularly thrilled with Mina's appearance. Poor Maximillian simply looked like death warmed over and her nameless competition didn't show his annoyance on his face but Mina caught sight of the tightening of his fingers on Maximillian's shoulder. The nameless intruder on her kill looked young. Some might think too young to be in the business but considering how young she had been when she started Mina found it all to easy to believe that the altogether angelic smile hid a monster. How often had she herself used the same gambit after all? Youth and beauty were two of the most useful tools. The way his smile sharpened at her request made apparent that she wasn't simply imagining things.
After all, life and death being what they were, who would turn down the sums of money one could amass for simply ending a few people?
"Mmm, my name? A trade then. My name for yours."
Raising her gun just a little bit, as though she were readying to use it, Mina paused in her reply. Getting something for nothing was an impossibility and Mina was not about to give him even her professional alias without some return of the gesture. If he was good then the exchange of names wouldn't matter for they both would have hidden their truths so deeply as to be impossible to find. If he wasn't good then he'd be dead. Not that she intended to let him walk away from this apartment anyway.
"Come now. I won't walk away from this without knowing the name of such a handsome interference."
If she was going to kill him then she needed to be aware of his face and name should he decide to exact a little revenge later. Mercenaries and assassins were touchy that way. So sensitive about murder attempts.
Mina heard the sound of the front door opening. So it would soon begin. A predatory smile drifted across the woman's features for the barest of moments. So soon. Only a scant distance away. It wouldn't take long. One bullet, placed properly and entirely silent. The man would likely not even see it coming. Her confidence was absolute until it was shattered by a voice that ought not be there. This man was supposed to be alone! Thinking a streak of obscenities Mina came to the conclusion that, based on the sound of the target's voice, she wasn't the only one after this contract. With a few suggestions as to what the interloper could do with himself made within the confines of her own mind Mina put on a smile and stepped out of the bedroom.
With her gun held at the ready she emerged from the room.
"Hmmm, now I was hardly expecting any extra company. Maximillian...you aren't cheating on little old me with other...people are you?"
Mina put on a pretty pout before her lips settled into a genial smile.
"I believe the saying is that two is company and three is a crowd, my dear competition. So perhaps you would kindly consider leaving? For me?"
Any assassin that fell for that bit wasn't worth her time and effort. Therefore while Mina reason that the interloper was a man and he would be affected she wasn't quite counting on it to work. Her gun remained trained on her prey and the other predator that had enter the equation. She wasn't disposed toward sharing a kill with another again. He had to go.
Hmm, free muscle? Well, perhaps free wasn't the best term for it considering that Venus' intentions were pretty well spelled out. Not that Mina minded that of course. Attention of that variety was something she was very well used to. That was her comfort zone.
"Well naturally, otherwise I might think I had a stalker."
His nod and approval of her pre-mission ritual earned a nod from her. As a fellow mercenary he likely understood that mentality well. Of course plans likely didn't involve much for someone like Venus. He definitely had the edge on her in the melee department. There were likely few that could best him. Mina nodded to his information about Slither.
"Naturally, I've been past once or twice. It's not difficult to tell the clientele just from the lines out front."
Mina smirked a little.
"Besides, you won't stick out. In a club like Slither I'll be the one that looks out of place."
It also raised questions about her targets for the evening. Were they mutants? Or perhaps simply humans with a fetish?
Her kick connected but as she was withdrawing her leg to move back into position Mina felt a short sharp pain in her calf. A knife? Whoever and whatever it was they weren't much good with it. Even without eyes she could tell the wound was short and shallow. Mina noted the clatter of something metallic to the ground and assumed she'd been right. The man that had shoved her had been holding a knife. While she was listening that one fall Mina heard the shuffling and footfalls that she could only assume meant some movement. Something was about to happen. She tensed for a moment and then relaxed into a ready stance. The smug tones of the lead thug's voice reached her.
Guns, how fitting. The thing she relied on to accomplish most of her missions turned against her when she could do next to nothing against them. She could see to shoot back or tell where the bullets were going to come from until too late. The bullet she was expecting was late in coming and was that a crack she'd heard? Interference from a well meaning third party? Well, at least in this she was the victim so on the off chance that cops ended up involved she could easily escape notice. The lead thug didn't sound quite so smug when he queried this Jay about why he hadn't shot when told to. The exclamation that followed the brief silence finally put things together for her. This was an X-Man. Sam maybe? Mina doubted that, there were other X's after all. So they worked for Sam. Well, at least the fight was looking up. At least it had been until the gunshot.
Well there went her back up. Oh well, Mina had survived on her own for this long. It wasn't as though she couldn't handle this on her own. Even if she was blind. There was another flurry of movement and the sound of the lead thug urging his minions to 'Get him!' confused her for a moment. She had clearly heard a gunshot and the sound of someone being hit by a gunshot. Had the interloper redirected it somehow? Her question was answered with a question from a voice so ridiculously heroic that Mina nearly fell down laughing despite the situation. Her lips curved in a smirk.
"Oh I'm fine. Cut on the leg but otherwise fine. So, my valiant hero, shall we teach them not to pick on women in this city?"
"Yes well I hope I won't need you too but over prepared is better than under prepared."
On the way down to the lobby in the elevator Venus relayed his ideas for a few signals if she needed his help in some way. It was a good idea and she nodded as he talked.
"A sound plan. And as to your question," Mina paused for a breath, "Scenarios mostly. I think through all the possible ways my current plan can go wrong and what to do in that situation. Plans don't survive first contact with the enemy and all that."
Moments later the elevator doors slid away to reveal the lobby. Mina led the way once again, pausing only to give Venus the address of the club.
"A place called Slither, of all things."
No accounting for taste in naming. At least she would only be there long enough to hear what she needed and get out.
The success of her previous action was evident sound her opponent had let out. Heh, even blind she could manage in a fight well enough it seemed. Then again, these were just street thugs. Thugs that likely had a nefarious agenda but thugs none the less. To a woman who had faced tougher and who had spent almost half of her life fighting they were as nothing. The only reason they were a threat at all was their numbers and her blindness. Once she became accustomed to her blindness that would no longer matter. When the man she'd struck addressed her Mina frowned. She'd thought perhaps something along the lines of robbery but that? At least she knew what sort of weapon he held now. That and the fact that he talked let her know his general location.
Before she could respond to his, frankly vulgar, statement Cosmina noticed another sound. Someone moving from one side. Being more attentive to the sounds in one's surroundings did have it's upsides. Unaware of what sort of strike the man would take Mina decided her best option was to move. So she did, she moved to one side and so the shove only caught her partially. Mina quickly regained her balance and lashed out with a vicious kick to what should have been the man's midsection. Unwilling to bring herself closer to his reach she neglected any follow up strikes in favor of going back into stance and speaking in the direction of the man who'd spoken before the attack.
"You know, I hate scum like you. Killing is one thing but that? That is purely vile and I'll be taking the cost of you even thinking about doing that to me out of your worthless stinking carcasses."
Mina was confident she could do it too. If only she wasn't blind she'd have ended this already with several well placed, entirely silent gunshots. As it was she would have to manage with hand to hand and ignore the admittedly minuscule voice in the back of her head telling her that she'd never survive this on her own.
His connections could be useful. He'd already proven some of them with that dinner. Between the two of them it wouldn't be too difficult to talk their way out of a situation. At least, so Mina hoped. If it got beyond talking? Well Mina wouldn't miss what she was shooting and if Venus hit as hard as he claimed there would be no problems. Regardless, she descended into her closet. No dress this time. Mina kept the boots but traded in the dress for a pair of skin tight black pants and a top in a deep crimson red. It would do nicely for a 'work' outfit.
"Well in that case this should be a snap."
Before leaving her closet Mina quickly traded purses and retrieved a somewhat larger gun from her vault. A bit more stopping power couldn't hurt. Upon leaving the closet she turned once on her heal, ostensibly giving her date a good look at the new outfit before leading the way back to the front of the apartment and toward the car.
"That should do for now. Let's get going."
Out of the apartment and once more in the elevator, Mina leaned against the wood paneled wall. It had been a while since she'd attempted something with a partner. This would be interesting, if somewhat dull for him. If all went well Mina would have little use for him other than as eye candy and prospective muscle.
Mina managed a nod and explained the job as he drove.
"It should be a simple job. A little corporate espionage for one of my regular customers. A rival of his is having a meeting about a business deal at a club tonight. There won't be any further discussion so it's tonight or not at all. The only issue is going to be getting close enough to hear what I need to hear. The noise of the club will make that difficult but not impossible."
She allowed herself to relax into her seat as Venus drove through the city. He was fast and that was a good thing. Along with that came the surety of her job. Mina was good at pulling a man if she wanted one. However she was even better at her job and it showed at that moment in the confidence, or arrogance, she exuded. Once they were back at her apartment complex she tilted her head at Venus and motioned for him to follow her.
"Come along"
Up the elevator they went to her penthouse condo. The ride was swift and all too soon she was allowing him into her apartment.
"If you'd like to carry a gun and don't have one on you I'll allow you to borrow one. Though," and here she paused to eye him for a moment, "I highly doubt you need one."
Mina headed for the closet to select a more revealing, and thus more club-worthy outfit. That left Venus to either follow her through the bedroom or remain in the modern styled living area.
Mina straightened as she felt the object press against the small of her back. She'd been right about the feet that had been surrounding her. The low mumbling voice would have been somewhat difficult to pick out if she hadn't been listening to her environment as intently as she was. Dumb punk. Before she'd gone blind Mina had cleaned up idiots like this with ease. The only thing that had kept her from reacting before now was not having a clear idea of the distance between her and any of the thugs. Now that she knew where one of them was it was possible for her to strike. Being unaware of the weapon that was being held to her back was something of an issue but she could manage. Even if it was a gun she could survive a bullet wound provided it struck nothing vital.
She spun on her heel with her hand at the level of the weapon, knocking it and the hand holding it to the side in one quick gesture. This she quickly followed up with a knee to the groin. With him temporarily disabled Mina moved back.
"Thought you'd pick on a poor innocent lady out on her own huh? How about one with a little bite?"
Mina raised her eyebrows and quickly let them fall. She was bluffing. That would have been transparent to anyone with half a brain. But there was no way that she was going to besmirch her reputation by getting taken down by a bunch of two bit, no account thugs. Not without giving them as much fight as she reasonably could.
The elevator ride was nothing to speak of until her date decided to get a little free with his hands. Cosmina might have retrieved her gun and suggested that he put her down if they weren't hurtling out of the window and toward street level moments later. It was all very showy. It might have impressed someone else. In some ways it did impress Mina. It was hard to dispute that he would make excellent muscle if she needed it for this mission. However the sheer amount of attention such actions attracted worked exactly counter to her usual mode of operations and as such balanced out the admiration for his abilities.
Once he'd set her down she feigned brushing some glass off of her skirt as she walked past the shell shocked valets and took her seat in the car.
"I do hope you won't do anything quite so...sensational while we're working." she said once he'd joined her in the car, "I typically employ stealth more than theatrics. Though they can be useful for diversions."
She leaned back in her seat to allow the large red man to drive and contemplate that while Mina worked out exactly how she'd get close enough to a private party to overhear what she needed in a club that was bound to be far too noisy.
Well she'd never taken a date to work with her. It might prove to make the evening more interesting. And the work she needed to do likely wouldn't take too long. Normally she separated business and pleasure but in a few rare instances it hadn't mixed too terribly. Mina favored her red hued date with a grin.
"Very well. I'll fill you in on the particulars on the way to my apartment. For now we should leave if we've any hope my changing and us arriving in time to be of use."
Mina stood from her seat and nodded at the waiters. Compliments, she felt, were unnecessary. They'd done well this evening and Mina had expected no less after the way they'd treated Venus. And speaking of him, she felt no need to wait on him. He could keep up and she had a mission to plan. Overhearing what she needed would be tricky. Though getting in would not. The company in question had a young CEO meaning he'd invited a few of his important clients and employees out to a club instead of something more sedate. Important business would be discussed this evening that her client wanted to know about. She sashayed toward the elevator, fully expecting Venus to follow on his own.
The brunette stumbled over a crack in the sidewalk again. It was frustrating and caused the woman to growl beneath her breath. She'd enjoyed that date with Venus. At least until she'd used her powers in an attempt to finish that last minute job and had ended up blind for it. Now she was starting to get hints of something else. A new way of using her power. It came slowly though. Painfully slowly. In the meantime she was left blinded and struggling to learn to interact with the world again. It frustrated Mina to no end. She was a woman that was used to being active. The loss of sight hampered that more than she cared to admit.
The only upside being that now that she had to focus on other senses to compensate she noticed more. While Cosmina doubted that she would ever meet those ridiculous levels of ability that let one 'see without seeing', she did hear more now. Not because her hearing felt like it had gotten sharper, no. More that she was now paying even closer attention to the sounds that were her domain than before. So she heard the steps around her. The steps that, at this hour were improbable. It was late when she went out. Mina had wanted to minimize the confusion she faced as much as possible.
So a group of footsteps near her, surrounding her, was more than a little suspicious. Fighting blind was never something she'd wished to do. She could hear the footsteps and gauge to some degree where they were. But it was not enough for a decisive strike. For once Mina wasn't quite sure what to do. She hadn't quite expected to have to handle herself in a fight. She had a small gun on her person but without the ability to see to aim it it would do no good. She'd included it by habit as a comfort rather than as a weapon.
