The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>>" I have to say, I'm not quite sure how to respond to that."
Ashley smiled as she finished her hotdog, wiping her hands on her sundress. It wasn't the most ladylike thing to do, but she had no napkins and, whatever, the stuff would wash out. They walked on companionable silence for awhile, Ashley actually enjoying the company Charlie provided before turning back to the woman with the funny accent, a thoughtful look on her face. She wanted to provide more information, but realizing they only real reason she'd ever been to The Mansion before was to get patched up after being injured...and that was about it.
“Ummm...” she thought hard, placing a pointer finger on her chin and tapping it a few times shaking her head. “Dun know much. Nice people, really. Getting in...dunno how. Maybe you ask? I know, ummm...you can live. There. If you wanna. Dunno how...”
She felt decidedly useless then, but didn't know how else to go on. She huffed and crossed her arms. “No more to say, really. Haven't been there, not much. But...it's nice. Trust me. See? There. Not far, told you?”
Ashley pointed to The Mansion, glad to see it after blocks of walking. She didn't realize how far walking really entailed anymore...or she did and she merely forgot after getting her motorcycle. Having a rocket between your legs that carried you from point A to point B in what seemed like minutes really screwed with your sense of direction when you eventually had to walk.
“Come!!” Ashley reached down and grabbed Charlie's hand and began to run, then let go a moment later. “Race you!!”
>>"Something to eat sounds good though a cold drink sounds even better. And I'm here by myself. I haven't had a chance to meet a whole lot of people yet so I just enjoy going to events with a lot of people. Especially when I know there will be plenty of food available."
Ashley nodded in understanding, knowing that was why she had come to such places in the past. She nodded her head to the burger stand, noticing they were serving drinks in huge cups so she figured she could buy one for Paul, and walked over, her mouth already drooling at the thought of one of the gigantic burgers they were serving. She patted her stomach, hoping she had enough room left over but decided not to kid herself; the redhead knew she could put away a massive amount of food and never gain a pound. For some reason, other females hated her for that.
She didn't get it, and even when it was explained to her she didn't understand. Maybe it was a human thing.
Ordering their biggest burger (The Giganto Triple Deluxe Doom Platter) and a Diet Sprite, she turned to Paul with a questioning gaze as she took off the top bun of her burger and started piling on the mayo. “Drink, Paul?” she said, giving the person that had handed her the food the money, plus more to cover the drink. “Your money, really.”
The momentary distraction of Isabel's was all Ashley needed to spring into action, leaping at the disorganized officers with as much speed as she could muster...which was quite fast, but slower then if she wasn't drunk with whatever and without her music. A flurry of movement later (with rather impressive kicks and knees, if Ashley had any say in it) and there were no more law enforcement people on the room left for Ashley to play with. Which was sad, because it had been awhile since she'd actually got to use her skills for any kind of...anything, and it was fun for the several minutes she was knocking the cops around.
She did quickly got out of the way of the job Izzy was doing and, after a few moments of standing, went to sit on a nearby Velociraptor fossil skeleton. The thing was surprisingly sturdy for, you know, being a fossil and all, and made a slightly uncomfortable chair, but one that was good for viewing the ensuing carnage.
After all, Ashley didn't knock any of the cops out. Most were groaning and even now in the process of getting up. And since they couldn't see the person that has ran their asses over like a puppy versus a steamroller, they instead focused their ire on the one person they could; Isabel, who was still raining dinosaur-y death upon their heads in the form of fossil bone chunks. Ashley, amused at the sight, giggled when she knew no one was looking.
Ashley Aran did giggle. Not on purpose.
It was a great thought to see her future wife enjoying herself, even with her shield up as the cops began to shoot at her. The redhead wasn't worried, as her girl had proven resilient in the past to the projectiles, and now only wished she had popcorn so she could see how the brunette was going to deal with the pests she hated so much.
Ashley nodded at the little dino in her hand and then looked back to Celeste. She watched as the little blond got what Ashley could only call a “Plotting Face” on her countenance as she muttered to herself about fame and fortune. For a moment, a lopsided smile came to the redhead's face as she regarded the young girl. Clearly she was a goal oriented little thing, and Ashley couldn't hold that against her. But she really couldn't let her take Amber away to a zoo.
Quick as she could while Celeste wasn't looking, Ashley stuffed the tiny lizard down her shirt and patted Amber gently, hoping she would be quiet enough so the blond girl couldn't hear her, and stay still enough so she wouldn't do something to disrupt her bosom filled hiding place, like tickle Ashley. Already the musician felt the slight tingling of laughter on her lips due to Amber's tiny claws...paws...whatevers.
“Oh.” Ashley let out an unconvincing cry. “It's gone.” She twirled a bit, holding her hand to her forehead as if scanning the area. “It somewhere. Gimmie robe. I catch, wrap it up. Then we take to zoo, okay?”
"By the way, what's this Mansion place like? 'Cause I can't help but get the impression it's like the Boys and Girls club or something. I'm probably really off, but I figured I should ask."
Ashley shrugged, taking a bite of the hot dog as she led Charlie down the street towards The Mansion again, resuming their quest after the brief pit stop at the stand. Her face adopted a thoughtful look while she chewed slowly, trying ti think of a way she could describe The Mansion into words anyone could understand. Thing was, Ashley knew she wasn't a wordsmith by any stretch of the imagination. But, whatever. Charlie seemed smart, so there was no worries there.
“School.” Ashley said, nodding. “But not. Almost though. Safe place, for us. Mutants.” Ashley took another bite of her hotdog, chewing quicker. “Big though. Good doctor, patched me up. Couple times, really. He heals, with hands. Kinda neat. My big brother there too. You meet him. He's cute, for you.”
Ashley waggled her eyebrows at Charlie and barley held back the urge to elbow her slightly. She knew Andrew would scold her for trying to fix him up with some random girl, but really Ashley wanted to see his expression if and when Charlie met him due to Ashley's meddling. The very thought sent Ashley into a fit of giggling.
But she was awake now, and the feeling of Agnes nest to her was a feeling like none other. Inside Ashley was doing a victory dance for herself, because...well god damn it she felt so damn happy that there was little else she could do. She clung to her girlfriend, pulling her close and wanting a repeat performance of the previous night. It was...addicting, to say the least, something she wanted to do over and over again, to perfect their dance, to make Agnes feel better and better. As it was she felt like a clumsy ox, but somehow she knew Agnes felt the same way.
It was a learning experience...a good one.
She pondered what to do or how to bring it up. Certainly not just blurt it out, right? Was there, like, some sort of unwritten rules on how to go about asking your significant other if they wanted to make love again? The redhead pondered this, feeling Agnes stir next to her. She calmed herself, her raging libido going down a few notches as she stroked her lover's shoulder a bit before letting it drape across her. This was nice in itself, just being close to her. Nothing wrong with that...
Unless someone sees you. And, for some reason, runs.
“Eh?” Was Ashley's brilliant response to the quick enter/exit of whoever was at Agnes' door. The musician couldn't do much else except prop herself up on one elbow and stare after at the door, then back down to her slightly green-skinned lover with a bewildered expression. “Who's that?”
>>"My name's Paul McCoy. When did you quit doing that?"
Ashley shook her head, a non answer to be sure but she really didn't know what else to say. This was more cash to get her more food, and she knew she was going to be leaving here feeling fat. But the musician wasn't one to look a gift horse in the mouth and stuffed the cash the man named Paul had told her to keep in her bra, seeing as her sundress didn't really have any pockets. And Agnes said a bra was good a place as any.
“Don't really, no more.” Ashley said, flicking the mayo packet expertly into a nearby trash bin. “No need. Got place, food.” She shrugged, as if that settled the matter. Nothing you need more then that, expect maybe good company, right?
Still, she felt bad for taking Paul's money, and figured the least she could do was find someplace to sit and eat. She wasn't exactly self conscience when it came to her looks (unless she was naked) but she really didn't wanna get her sundress dirty or greasy, and there had been a few close calls with that kabob. And lord only knows how hard mayo stains were hard to get out of clothing.
“Eat?” Ashley raised an eyebrow, jerking her thumb at a nearby burger stand. Maybe went with a lot of things, but burgers were among the best. “Got money...yours, anyway.” The redhead blushed again, clearing her throat and looking down and away in a shy manner. “Or...meeting someone? Are you, I mean? Here?”
The redhead blinked a bit at her Isabel's acrobatics, wondering how she herself could do such a thing. Well, without the use of equipment, she probably couldn't. Isabel was cheating, after all, with her spindly legs, so it was okay to not feel bad about it. Truth was, there wasn't much damage she could cause to the bigger dinosaurs because of how well they were held up. Still, she didn't want to disrupt Isabel's fun by taking out the base of the dino she was working on, so Ashley entertained herself by taking a nearby pole (the ones that attached to other poles to direct people around certain exhibits) and began swinging the thing around with reckless abandon at the other, smaller dinosaur exhibits.
“Freeze!! NYPD!! Drop your weapons and get on the ground, now!!”
Ashley stopped what she was doing and looked back to the people that were rushing into the room. It was then that she noticed a lot of other noises that she didn't hear before, sounds of voices and feet clamoring to get into certain positions. The musician grinned, shouldering the large metal pole and stuck a hand in her pocket as if striking a pose before holding out a hand and wagging a finger.
“Nu uh.” she scolded, shaking her head slowly. “Izzy...she dun like you. Police, I mean. Bettah duck.”
She pointed up, and the dozen or so cops that all had their guns pointed at Ashley looked up simultaneously, only to see Isabel still stomping around on the dinosaur.
I'll be back soon, hopefully a week. Moving back to civilization and I need to prepare my room more then I thought I would. I've been working and working, packing up my stuff by myself and moving it, so it's slow going.
I haven't abandoned the place, so dun worry. A week, tops...I hope.
Ashley was never really sure what to call these things, but the huge gathering of people meant a couple of things for the formerly homeless redhead; food. And lots of it. She came to these tings every chance she got and now that she had some money...well, she ate as much as she could. Agnes made fun of her because of her eating habits and how she growled every time someone even came close to the food she had on her plate, but that was just habit. When you were homeless, you protected your food. It was the law. Or something.
The kabob that Ashley was currently devouring had some interesting things on it, and the mayo she kept slathering on the meat and vegetables had people giving her a wide berth. Whatever. Mayo was the best food she had, and by the time she jumped the stick in the garbage she still had some mayo packets left, which meant only one thing; dessert. Well, almost. It would require much more mayo for Ashley to be considered dessert.
Sucking on a mayo packet, the redhead wandered around the fair with curiosity on her face. Okay, so now she was clad in a green sundress with her black combat boots. Much better then the yellow sundress she sported when she was with Charlie. Agnes said it accentuated her hair, whatever that meant. The guitarist was inclined to point out that nothing matched with her gray eyes, but decided that she liked the fact that Agnes was dressing her up and said nothing. A slight bump on her shoulder broke Ashley from her daydream of her time with Agnes, and she blinked before looking back to the person she had bumped into.
>>"Sorry! Didn't mean to bump you."
The musician stopped as she looked the man up and down and then held up her hand. In it was a wad of cash. Okay...so her body had reverted back to it's pickpocketing days and apparently hadn't lost their touch. Like riding a bike or whatever. She blinked, then looked back at the man she had taken the money from and blushed a deep shade of red. Really, she had no need for the money and she didn't know why her busy fingers had taken the cash. She extended her hand, holding the bills back to the gray haired man.
“Errr...sorry.” Ashley mumbled, looking away. She was glad her hair slightly covered her face. “Didn't...mean to.”
Ashley nearly threw up her hands at the order but refrained. She liked the little tyke, despite her rather bossy attitude, and merely gave a small smile and an exasperated sigh. Sure, she had little to no money but that wouldn't stop her from trying to get the child a drink and some food. How could she refuse, after all? She thought back to the time her and Charlie Fletcher were out and about and smiled at the thought of getting that hot dog for free, simple because she looked nice (if not a little ridiculous) in a sundress. Maybe she could do something like that?
The redhead looked back to the ground where Celeste was and spotted the lizard that was scampering around. Indeed, it was...different, that much was sure. She walked to the blond's location and nodded along with her, as if she too were examining something she'd never seen before. Her previous thoughts of being dumb when it came reptiles came back and Ashley mentally sighed. One of these days she was going to have to ask Andrew to teach her more then just speech. She wanted to know more, if not for moments like these.
She reached down and picked up the lizard, gently, and set it on her palm. The black eyes and the rob set off her suspicions earlier, and so there was really only one more test to do before she confirmed that this was indeed Amber, one of the first mutants she had met in her first few months in New York City. And how was she going to prove this?
Ask, of course.
“Amber?” Ashley said, extending a finger and poking the lizard on the nose. “That you?”
The destruction of the Egyptian exhibit continued for what seemed like forever, but by the end Ashley was breathing hard and feeling a whole lot better. It was actually quite the workout to destroy those things, as the Egyptians seemed to have built this stuff to last. Of course, she wasn't winded. She seemed to be ready to tear up more crap and Ashley felt obliged to rise up and answer this call of competition. She had stamina and she was gonna prove it!!
“C'mon.” Ashley said, still laying on the ground among shattered and broken pieces of ancient and most likely irreplaceable Egyptian art. “More to break. Help me up.”
Her answer was a bone something or other hovering above her face, and Ashley rolled her eyes as she grabbed it and was hauled to her feet. She felt wobbly and a little insulted; she had to use her hands to make all this stuff garbage. All she ha to do was whip her bones around a bit and could cause twice the damage the redhead could in a matter of moments. Ashley twitched an eyebrow but didn't complain. She worked harder for it, so in her mind it was worth twice the damage Isabel did!!
The musician regained her feet and stood up straight, tilting her head from side to side to crack her neck. She stretched out for a few minutes, eying the bonemancer with a hint of jealousy and pride. It was an odd combination for Ashley, one she didn't feel often (if at all) and it greatly confused her. Jealousy she could understand. Isabel's power was formidable and deadly. Ashley's own was...okay. It helped her when she needed it. She didn't like that she needed music, but she loved music anyways, so it all worked out.
Pride...well. One could hardly look at Isabel and know that this person was yours and not feel pride. She was one of a kind, her Isabel, and there was hardly a moment that had gone by that night that Ashley didn't feel a giddy sense of excitement knowing that later on that night they would be wed and bumpin' pretties to seal the deal. The thought alone seemed to rejuvenate Ashley, and she smiled as she walked up to Isabel, grabbing the brunette's hand again.
“Lez go, Izzy-Bell.” Ashley said, dragging Isabel along. “Dinosaurs. Like you said.”
Ashley nodded in approval, barley taking a glance at the newly formed corpses before walking a few steps, then stopping. She looked back to Isabel, then the directory and then back to Isabel.
“Know way?” she asked, clearing her throat. “Can't read. Also, diamonds. Steal them, yeah? Worth...a lot, right?”
She turned around and waited for Isabel to begin walking, following closely behind the bonemancer. Ashley soon got bored looking around the place, mostly just hallways leading to various exhibits that looked rather boring and inexpensive. Kids stuff, really, like things about penguins and cavemen vs astronauts...well, that was how Ashley chose to interpret it. Muchmore interesting then what they probably had up.
So it was with much boredom that Ashley reached and caught Isabel's hand and began to swing it back and fourth with a rather silly expression on her face. So, sure, Isabel had killed tons of people tonight. Did that mean she didn't know how to have fun? They were in a museum that they were about to wreck to soothe Ashley's bruised ego from an incident a long time ago and probably steal a bunch of diamonds that were worth, like, maybe a couple thousand dollars. This was gonna be fun, damn it!!
But just in case Isabel didn't catch on, Ashley began to skip along the way, letting go of her hand only to spin around a few times before she came back to the busty bonemancer to pick her up by the waist and lift her high, spin her and set her down again. And then it was back to the hand holding and skipping. She hummed a off beat tune, giggling stupidly as she saw the look on Isabel's face and raised up the girl's hand to kiss her knuckles a bit.
“Come on Isseh!! Use...like...tentacle bone!! Or spider legs!!” Ashley waved around the room they were in; a mummy exhibit. “Woosh!! You know, wreck stuff!!”
A sudden, unbidden pain shot through Ashley's mind for a moment and it was all she could do to keep from tumbling over. She gritted her teeth and closed her eyes tight shut. But as soon as it was there it was gone, and Ashley smiled as she stood up again. Okay...that was random. But it was gone now, and Ashley had things to do. She had a destruction machine in Isabel, and her companion was going to be her ticket to toss this stupid place and burn it to the ground!!
...still, she couldn't get that brief image out of her head...the one of someone that looked exactly like her behind a glass wall, pounding on it, screaming and trying to get out.
