The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Hey, no harm in a little flirting now and then. Just because I would take you back to my place doesn't mean I can't flirt a little."
Unfortunately the cheerful mood that had accompanied most of the fight died as Short Stuff noticed the matching tattoo around his own neck. Yes that was an abrupt shift in atmosphere. Short Stuff tried to see like nothing was wrong but Drew could spot the ticks and twitches of someone trying very hard not to entirely freak out. As much as Drew suddenly wanted to be serious and get rid of the promise the guy had made Drew wasn't entirely sure he'd remain among the living if he did. This promise worked very much in his favor for the moment.
"Yeah that's my power. A real doozy isn't it? Sadly there's nothing I can do for ya. I can't get rid of promises. If I could I wouldn't still have these."
Drew pulled up his left coat sleeve to reveal the array of tattoos up that arm. He was taking a gamble on this but if it worked then no harm done to him. Literally in fact.
"Sorry."
He shrugged, keeping the poster tube at the ready but not in any position to strike. Drew wanted to able to defend himself in case this guy snapped.

Soul mate? Drew snorted at Short Stuff's assumption. He braced the tube in the direction of the swing, grunting as the blow slid and hit a hand instead. He lashed out at the wannabe swordsman with a kick at the same level as the sword slash had been at.
"Soul mate? Please, you maybe cute but you're hardly that special. Besides, you already have a boyfriend. I so don't date cheaters."
He heaved a theatrical sigh.
"A shame really. You are cute. No, I think you'll be wanting to check your own neck. Go ahead, I'll wait while you find a convenient window or car mirror or something."
Drew felt himself smirking again. It was hard not to smirk when someone fell into that trap. He'd spent so long under that particular boot himself that having company just made him happy as a clam. Well, so long as it wasn't a clam destined for clam chowder or something. Those clams probably weren't too happy at all.
When had he gotten this silly? Most fights he was all business. Of course those fights were generally against stronger opponents. This one he felt like he was fighting on equal terms. Maybe that was making him so snarky.

Drew shrugged off the hit and rolled his eyes at the comment.
"I'm quite happy out of that closet thanks. Twice as many possible dates and less confusion with a side of self loathing out here. Don't like closets much."
More than anything he was glad that Short Stuff was leaving the sword sheathed. He didn't want to end up resembling sliced deli meats this evening. People just didn't carry swords with them! Well unless they were nuts. Which this guy possibly was. And definitely homophobic. As if he hadn't had that to deal with in the past.
It was so old news to him.
Short Stuff made a mistake though in his following bit of snark. While trying to boast about his improved combat chances he made a promise. One that made Drew laugh riotously, while holding the poster tube mind you. The connection snapped into place and the mark started forming. Apparently Drew had enough promises down his left arm now that this one decided not to form there. Drew couldn't see where his was forming but suspected it might mirror the design that he could see edging it's way around Short Stuff's neck.
"Oh you!" he had to stop to laugh a little more, "You just had to make a promise didn't you?"
Drew grinned widely and held the empty plastic tube up as a makeshift weapon/defense.

Short stuff started to unscrew the tube as Drew attempted to tug it away from him. He'd even started making a smart comment about sharing before Drew swung at him and he had to desperately duck to avoid the fist. Shame that he'd missed. At least the pretty face wasn't mangled.
"Why not? We're already close enough to trade blows. What's a poster tube between friends?"
Unfortunately by the time Drew finished his response to the unfinished banter Short Stuff had screwed the tube and retrieved a sword. A freaking sword! Seriously?! He'd faced guns, knives, and various mutant abilities but this was a new one. The casual dismissal of being gay by his newly armed opponent forced Drew out of astonishment and put a wry grin on his face.
"Well sounds like someone's in denial."
Whether that was Short Stuff or his 'boyfriend' Drew didn't know or care but they were too deep in the flirtatious banter for him to just give up now!

Not being distracted by contorting his body into a number of positions it was easy for Drew to watch the whole game progress with amusement. Well amusement and a dose of interest. After all even the nicest guys would hardly turn away from what was essentially a free show. Rebecca was rather nice to look at and as expected the game had provided a position that would have likely been incredibly embarrassing if red head was paying attention to it at all. Drew watched with only mild interest as the rest of the participants arranged themselves according to his order and Drew smiled at them.
"Everyone settled in? All nice and cozy?"
The moment between his question and his spinning the dial was likely torture. Drew didn't move to make it any shorter.
"Left foot blue."
Drew settled back in his chair to watch this round's excitement. Who knew what would happen in this round?

Success! She smiled little by little until finally Andrea broke out in a full smile and even indulged in a little bit of a laugh! Time seemed to disappear as they talked and drank. The topics got increasingly ridiculous as the glasses emptied. Eventually they ended up on their adventures. Andrea had much more funny adventures than he did. Most of his ended up about fighting. Why was that? Why didn't he have any silly bookshelf climbing stories to tell?! It wasn't fair at all. Drew pouted and took another drink.
"Why don't I have funny bookshelf climbing stories?"
Andrea's snakey buddy tried to curl around him yet again but Andrea pulled him back like usual. Maybe snakey didn't like him? That seemed pretty likely to Drew but he wasn't going to say anything to him. Andrea was still here after all. Telling the snakey buddy not to mess with him would have to wait until he could get the snakey buddy alone. One day....
Meanwhile Drew called down another round.
"I mean I'm always punching people and getting punched. Maybe next time it could be a pie fight? Yummy and funny!"
Mmmm...a pie fight sounded awesome. And yummy. Can't forget that.

Whoever Alex was quoting was a wise person. Drew remained quiet as he led the way until Alex mentioned the rumors of the X-Men and the Mansion. Drew threw a grin in the other man's direction.
"Yup, pretty much true. Why, you looking to become one? 'Cus let me tell you the training can be pretty rough sometimes."
Sam certainly didn't go easy on him. And there was the sparring with Maya but that was followed by beer so it was ok. Drew stretched and walked out of the park onto the city sidewalks. The bastion of nature in the middle of the large city was left behind for concrete and pavement. His car wasn't far now.
"The X's help out the cops with mutants that are just a bit too tough for the city's MRC to handle on their own. As well as running other missions. Mostly we just try to keep the peace and help out where we can."
And then they arrived at Drew's car. He unlocked the doors and hopped in the driver's seat.

A raise of a hand, a few words exchanged along with some bills, and Drew had a beer sitting in front of him. It took Andrea a while to get around to answering him but when she did he frowned. Ditched? That sucked.
"Well good riddance then. If she shows up, we'll ditch her."
Drew took a drink of his beer as Andrea admitted to not knowing why she'd stayed since she'd figured out that the girl wasn't coming an hour ago. How long had she been there alone? Sure Drew was willing to drink alone but Andrea? In her case it just felt sad. But she pointed out that his presence made it a bit better and Drew grinned lopsidedly at her.
"Glad to be of service, m'lady."
He even turned and sketched a bow in her direction. Sure he was acting silly but if it cheered up Andrea then he could tolerate looking the fool. As a fellow mutant she deserved to smile a little. Taking another drink of his beer, Drew eyed the rest of the bar again. No taking chances that drunk and clingy wouldn't be back. Once he was sure he was safe for the moment Drew gave his attention back to Andrea.

At least the story of Matt was good for getting a laugh out of someone. That was a good thing. It hadn't been too fun when it happened but now it was just a funny story to tell. However the humor of the story quickly bled out of the air as Alex related a no doubt shortened tale of discovering his mutation. It was with a solemn expression that he dropped a hand on the other man's shoulder as they walked in silent solidarity. It wouldn't be alright. It never would. But, as Alex said, you got used to it. After a minute Drew withdrew his hand.
"I was out with my friends and the only one who had their license at the time. When my mutation activated I got a blinding headache and nearly got us all killed when the car drifted into the oncoming lane. For the next four years I shut everyone out and lived like a recluse. I was afraid they'd hurt me you see. I was different and unlike other mutants my power didn't give me any cool tricks in return. I got over it, mostly, but it took a while."
After that little speech Drew let the silence settle between them as he lead the way to his old black car. Being a mutant was never easy but it got easier with other people around who understood. The bonds of fellowship and all that. Drew walked leisurely toward the exit that he'd left his car nearest. It wouldn't take too long but the walk would be nice in the meanwhile.

Drew is ready willing and able but a bit full on threads at the moment. Still, if ya need someone to fill in a spot let me know. Drew may not have his blue but he's been asked by CS to join so he's technically a trainee now.

Hmm, no balance on this guy. The one kick the ankle took him down quick and hard. Sure he got back up but still. However the footsie comment reinforced Drew's grin even as he took a hit to the side from that suspiciously clacking poster tube. To be on the safe side he grabbed at the end of the poster tube. Whatever was clacking around in that tube, Drew didn't want Short Stuff to have access to.
"Well you know how it is. You see a cute guy and you can't help yourself."
He followed up with a cheeky wink. If he was going to fight and flirt then he might as well do it right.
"Gotta make sure you know I'm interested if I'm going to have any hope for a second date!"
Drew then swung in with a right jab aimed right at Short Stuff's face.

Watching the short guy double over with a wheeze brought that little smirk into full wattage so to speak. Listening to the wheeze turn to a cough and then a laugh however dimmed it again. Was there a chance the little guy had more to him that Drew had expected? For one brief moment he entertained the idea that maybe he'd attacked a particularly arrogant mutant. Then the thought was ditched because he couldn't bother spending time thinking about anything but the fight. Short stuff grabbed the poster tube he'd been carrying and swung it at Drew with a grin. Drew dropped down enough that it skimmed over the top of his head, disturbing his hair but not hurting him at all.
Then Drew straightened up and unleashed a pair of kicks in quick succession. One aimed at the ankle and the next at the opposite knee with the other leg. He was grinning as well. A fight, a good fight, was precisely what he'd wanted and short stuff was obliging.
"Nice shot, short stuff."
Of course there had to be taunting. Non-life threatening fights demanded taunting, back talk, and sass!

Score! He'd finagled a laugh out of Alex. Ok so maybe it was more of a chuckle but it still counted! Drew wasn't quite sure when getting the guy to smile had become part of the mission but he'd succeeded regardless. Alex certainly looked a lot better when he smiled but there were few people that didn't.
"Then I think you'll manage to land a job there easily! Even if they weren't mutants it's still a school full of teenagers!"
Drew grinned and then laughed. Acting as a recruiter huh?
"Yeah, you aren't the first guy I tried to bring back to the mansion but the first guy didn't really work out. And oh boy was just getting him there a mess." Drew gave Alex a conspiratorial look, "When I met him he was almost falling down drunk and had used his power to clog up a street with a bunch of golems that he was singing and dancing with! Not only that but he managed to start a riot too! We barely escaped unscathed. There were casualties though. My car got scraped up as we pulled out of the parking lot and the living room rug was a mess the next morning."
The comment about hope wore off Drew's humor and he nodded.
"Yeah, I wasn't in a very good place either when I got to New York. Stayed here two years living in fear of being discovered as a mutant. Sam and Kealey were probably a couple of the best things to happen to me. Even if I did meet Sam while trying to rob a cafe."
Drew stood up from the bench.
"Well then follow me. I drove out here so I'll drive us there."

Points for the attitude carrying beyond that swagger in his walk. Minus more though for being stupid enough to goad him right back. Drew smirked as the little guy stood there as though he was untouchable.
"Alright then."
That was all the warning he gave before his fist flew toward the shorter man's stomach. Drew was intent upon teaching this guy a lesson. The same lesson he'd been teaching so many other humans around the city lately. Don't screw with mutants. Besides, fighting made him feel like he had some iota of control in his life and that was a good thing. If the little guy fought back it'd be even better. A nice drawn out fight where both of them got hurt but the human came out the worse for it would be just the ticket tonight.
