Jorge
Jorge had laid the sandwiches down. The look on Chase’s face was priceless. Apparently he really did not expect even the child’s meal to be so large. But Jorge knew Gregor, all too well. The man made sandwiches big, no matter what the general consensus on the size was supposed to be. He lived by the code that good food deserved to be served generously. That was why many of the people that left this establishment did so with doggie bags.
It seemed that Chase was going to be joining those ranks rather soon. He nibbled on his sandwich after Jorge had taken his first bite. Instantly the detective sighed. He didn’t know how the man did it, but he always managed to make a damn good sandwich.
>> “This is good…Jorge, do you come here a lot?”
Jorge nodded with a smirk after he had swallowed. Reaching over he plucked up his can of soda, cracked open the top, and took a sip to help wash down some of the food so that he could talk.
“Pretty often. The guys at the precinct like this place a lot when we have to do all-nighters at the station. They usually ask me to come here to get the food because I know the owner and he gives us all a great discount.” Jorge said with a nod. “Plus it’s right across the street so, convenient.”
Time ticked by slowly but it was not an agonizing effort. They chatted a bit more, chuckled and laughed as they spoke about the events of their day. Slowly they aate their food, heartily, but in the end, neither of them seemed able to finish it, at least Jorge didn’t. He still had another ¼ of his sandwich left. So, he carefully wrapped it up in the paper it had arrived wrapped in, sighed, and turned his attention to Chase.
He sighed contentedly.
“Alright,” Jorge smirked as he eyed Chase and whatever of the sandwich that had been left behind. “You still with me?” He smirked.

>> "Thanks. But I'm not so sure that that's a good thing. Let's just be careful."
Yup, apparently Shawn was having the same feelings about the whole mess. He really had no idea what to expect anymore because as much as he praised the weapons, he feared that it would draw them far too much attention. One glance of them by the duke and suddenly the man’s whole attitude had changed in their favor. But that led him to wonder…was it their stories he was compelled by? Or simply the silver weapons that would probably be worth a small fortune?
Whatever the case, Jorge tried to wrack his brain to think of some way out of this whole mess. There had to be something that could help them here. They couldn’t have just appeared out of nowhere, with absolutely no way of getting back. It just didn’t make any sense at all.
What they needed was a sign. A sign from God, or whatever higher force was pulling the strings of this mad puppet show, to show them that they were not alone, that there WAS a way out of this.
Then…a monk suddenly appeared before them.
The simply dressed man in a dark robe that announced absolutely no fortune, stood before them and ground the procession to a complete halt. At first Jorge worried that maybe whoever this person was, brazen thief, or something, that wanted to attempt to rob them. Odd for the middle of the city. But as the man lifted back his hood, Jorge saw the last thing that he expected…a familiar face…
>> "My Lord…It's good to see that you have arrived safely. Unfortunately I've been unable to arrange lodging for the night but perhaps you have already managed that?"
Jorge tilted his head. That face. It certainly was familiar but from where? It was obvious not someone from his own life because that would be utterly impossible. Who else would be in this time, and how? But he just could not shake the feeling that maybe, just maybe that this man was someone that he knew.
>> "Sir Cervantes, do you know this monk? If not I can have him removed from our path and send him on his way back to the monastery."
The detective regarded the man closer, scrutinizing every feature of his face from the gap between them…until finally a name popped up. Paul. Paul McCoy. There was absolutely no way that this was the same man…but the look he was giving him. It was as if he were absolutely willing him to remember him. To make that connection.
Jorge would have to take a stab at it…
“Umm…yes…” Jorge responded to the duke with a nod. “This is our third, traveling companion, Paul. I sent him ahead to announce us, but…it seems as if he was unsuccessful. Paul,” Jorge said as he tried to take on a reprimanding tone. “I told you that you could complete your worship later. Lodgings were most important to us at the moment, especially after our run-in with the HIGHway men we barely managed to escape from?”
This was such a bad decision. But he couldn’t just abandon Paul. Even if he was suspected of murder at one time…

Jorge
Jorge had heard the story from the mansion staff. One of the new students, a child, was a runaway but this boy was apparently being sought after by his father. While normally there was nothing wrong with this, lots of mutant kids runaway from parents because they think they don’t understand, this was an entirely different ballgame, though. This boy, Michael, was found with suspected evidence of abuse. That was why the detective was called in, just to listen to the boy’s side of the story, to see if he could reveal anything about what happened to him, and who did it.
Strolling down the lengths of the mansion halls, detective Jorge Cervantes sigh as he pinched the bridge of his nose to release some tension. The detective tried to dress less official-like for the boy. Instead of his usual dark gray suit and coat, Jorge instead opted to wear a dark gray shirt, blue jeans, and his favorite bomber jacket over his thick frame. Around his neck his badge on a chain bounced along with every step, catching the sunlight in just the right angles to send a cascade of colors in all directions.
He sighed as he rolled is neck from side to side, now, to help further relieve some stress. Ever since hearing about this case the man had been in a sort of whirlwind. Not only was it a tragic thing to hear about this child’s possible upbringing, but it killed him because Michael was so close in age to Chase. Recently Jorge had finally started to become very close to the boy and the similarities between Chase’s background and Michael’s was just too much for him to bare. Both runaways, both with abusive parents, it was enough to make the cop wish he could just be left alone with those men for five minutes.
But, alas, he was the law; and he needed uphold it at all costs, despite his personal feelings on the matter. So, taking a calm breath and remembering that there was a lot this boy had gone through, Jorge knew that he was going to have to be both patient and friendly with the boy. If Michael decided to clam up, then there would be little that Jorge could do for him. They needed to remain on speaking terms.
Hopefully the boy would be chatty today.
Checking his watch, he saw that he was exactly on time as he arrived at the door that he was directed to. One breath, two breaths, and Jorge raised his knuckled hand and gently wrapped upon the door.
“Michael?” he asked gently through the door. “My name is Detective Jorge Cervantes? We have a meeting?”

>> “Nice to meet you, too…May I please have the vegetarian? Except… kid-sized? Please?”
Mr. Tifka smirked as he looked down at the boy. “Haha, a light eater, are ya? Well that is absolutely no problem. I will get that started for ya, right away!”
Jorge chuckled. “Thanks Gregor!” He then steered Chase off to the side to claim a small table where they could pick up lunch.
Off to the side there was one table that was open and Jorge slid into the seat, Chase across from him, and decided to hunker down in waiting for their lunches. Jorge was actually a little surprised by how good of a day that he was having. Not that he figured that Chase would be a bore or that he was going to hate the child. He had been worried all day that they would never find any common ground to talk about. Thankfully, they managed to find that common ground.
The wait actually not at all as long as one would expect. This deli was surprising fast with their service and before they knew it, Jorge’s order number came up. It took only seconds of him to stand, leave the table, and return with a tray laden with two sandwiches, both of which (even though one was excellent for a junior) were quite hefty.
With a smirk at Chase’s eyes he chuckled as he set the tray down with sandwiches and free sodas.
“Don’t worry, Chase. You don’t have to eat all of it here. We can wrap up what you don’t eat and take it home,” he nodded cheerfully. “Come on, let’s eat,” he said as he nodded to the sandwiches. “Get you all that much more closer to the precinct.”

Jorge
The day was long but really it did not feel as boring or irritating as it normally did when he was alone. Having Chase around had helped to elevate some of the boredom and even gave him a chance to chit chat a little with the boy. Apparently the kid’s knowledge of comics was a rather extensive one and once he got onto the topic, he was a chatterbox. It was actually really cool that the boy was opening up a little more to him and it made the detective feel like he did something right for once. After all, he really wanted this relationship to work since he cared about both Gemma and Chase so much.
At least there would not be any bad blood between the two of them.
On top of the kid’s great attitude, he really was a trooper to put up with the plethora of boring errands that he needed to run today. They were dull to say the least: dry cleaners to pick up his suits, grocery store for supplies, bread and bagel shop for some snacks for his co-workers that Cynthia had called and BEGGED him to pick up since she forgot, and a hardware store to get some things he needed for the apartment. And through all of it, Chase didn’t complain once.
He definitely deserved a good lunch for it, which is why he took him to the best little deli secret in town, Front Stage Door Deli. Few people knew of it, but it was a gem of the city. Most of the police force knew that if lunch were going to be bought for the office, they needed to go here. Great sandwiches, excellent portions, and every sort of drink that one could imagine. The place was a heaven send. Thankfully there was not a huge line by the time both he and Chase arrived. As a matter of fact, as the seconds ticked by, they found themselves nearing the front counter closer and closer.
Jorge yawned, as he read the menu, but glanced down to see the excitement in Chase’s eyes.
>> “We get to go to the police department next, right?”
He smirked and nodded.
“Yup. I can show you around a little bit,” he said with a chuckle. “But first, I’m starving and I’m assuming you are as well.” he then nodded to the large menu that was situated on the wall behind the counter. “So, pick whatever you want, champ. You can’t go wrong with anything here. See, that roast beef sandwich they have is amazing…and their vegetarian sandwiches actually are too bad eith—“
“Next!” a voice bellowed.
Jorge perked up and nodded to the man behind the corner and nodded to Chase. As he walked up to the counter, with Chase at his side, the detective was met with a large, happy grin from the man there, who looked absolutely more than pleased to see Jorge. The two laughed and exchanged quickly introductions.
“Haha! Cervantes! Nice to see you again. Picking up for the precinct again?”
“Nah, just out with my young friend here. Going to grab some lunch,” Jorge said as he patted Chase’s shoulder. “Chase, this is Mr. Gregor Tifka, owner of the best delicatessen in town. Gregor, this is Chase. My girlfriend’s son.”
Tifka, a large, hairy man but with a brilliant smile and a happy aura just chuckled and nodded to Chase. “Nice to meet you boy! You look like a good kid. How about a soda on the house? What you two having?”
Jorge smirked as he nodded. “Roast beef sandwich on Italian herb,” Jorge answered in reference to himself and then nodded to Chase. “Get whatever you like, Chase,” he said warmly.

>> “Christian Walker? Oh, he’s from Powers!-It’s a, um, comic book. And there are mutants all over the place, they call them powers… and there’s two people, Christian and Deena, they’re cops who investigate cases that involve powers. Kinda like you do.”
Jorge had to tilt his head a little as he listened to what Chase was saying. This comic book…it actually sounded pretty interesting. Of course he grew up with the normal types of comics, superheroes, monsters, cowboys, etc., but this actually sounded kind of fun. He had noticed a few times when Chase came over that he had his nose buried in a comic book, but he had never really questioned the boy what it was. Simply he didn’t want to intrude on the kid’s personal space.
Chase seemed fine talking about it now, though. It actually made him chuckle a little to hear the passion with which the boy spoke of the comic. Maybe he could get Chase to actually show it to him sometime so he could see what it was like. A cop running around, investigating crimes involving “Powers”; he had to grin because it really did sound so much like his everyday job.
As he climbed out of the car, Jorge slipped his wallet back into his back pocket and made his way around to where Chase was waiting for him. He tilted his as he approached the boy and found him just kind of eyeing him. Then he smirked.
“What?” Jorge asked with a chuckle.
>> “You kind-of look like him. Christian. That’s kinda funny.”
Jorge smirked.
“Really? Well, maybe that means I too am secretly a superhero,” he said with a deep laugh. Reaching down he patted Chase on the shoulder as he led him to the dry cleaners. “Come on, let’s get the boring stuff over with so we can have some lunch, huh?”

Jorge
Jorge sighed. He was thankful that the gambit had paid off. He knew that he was just piling on lie after lie, but it was what he needed to do. He was not going to die by the sword of some Duke in this time. He needed to make it back home to his own time, to the woman that he loved. Whatever had hurled them backwards through time, had to be able to be undone. It simply had to be.
But, with little clues on what happened in the first place, the most that they could do was simply survive until they could figure a way out. That was going to have to mean that they had to blend in as best they could. Hopefully while doing so, they could figure some way out of this mess.
>> "We thank you, your elegance. Your hospitality is most appreciated."
Jorge nodded in response. Hopefully this would go well.
“Agreed, we are extremely grateful for your hospitality.”
The troupe moved on and Jorge and Shawn followed along with the duke riding horseback and the rest of his men.
The rest of the trek to the castle seemed rather uneventful. Safely walking with the armored men seemed to help ease the people’s wonderment at the strange garbs that both Jorge and Shawn wore. Though the men and women they passed on the way to the castle walls still stared, there was less fear that Jorge could feel from them. They were…almost accepting. Maybe they were just used to the odd dresses of foreigners when they were part of a precession. Certainly visitors from other countries dressed in far stranger clothes.
Jorge sighed though as he watched them approaching the marketplace that was set up before the large, castle walls. Though people may stare, at least the tight quarters also allowed them to move slower. From there Jorge could hopefully trying to think of some more back up plans and lies for them to stay alert.
He nudged Shawn as the pair of them walked on and he nodded to a few of the townspeople who were out and greeting them. The gleam of their silver weapons were obviously be big draw because soon people were gathered, gawking and waving at them as if they were celebrities. Jorge merely waved back before he whispered to Shawn.
“Nice job on the weapons,” he said with a nod. “Its garnering us a lot of attention.” He wasn’t sure if that was a good or bad thing, but it was definitely a development.

Jorge smirked as he glanced out of the corner of his eye. Chase seemed to actually be a little impressed that Jorge was a cop that worked with mutants. The boy seemed to drink up every single word he said with an excitement that the detective really was never sure that the boy possessed. Most of the time whenever he spoke or was left alone with Chase, the boy was rather subdued and seemed a little unsure of how to react around him; unless of course he was with Lizzie. Chase just loved his little bulldog and the presence of the boy had really breathed life into his old puppy.
But that was off point. Jorge explained his job and Chase seemed to definitely be impressed, to the point that a glance at him made it seem like the boy was watching an intense action movie.
>> “That’s so cool! You must meet so many cool mutants! You’re like… Christian Walker, from Powers!”
Jorge smirked a little and tilted his head. Christian Walker? Powers? He was afraid to say that he had not met or heard of either of those. Maybe it was from a TV show or a video game? Jorge was known for not always being up with the lingo or pop culture of the youth. But, he had let it go, for the moment, since Chase suddenly looked a little shy at what he said. Jorge hoped the boy was not going to suddenly clam up all of a sudden…
>> “Yes please,”
He nodded. So the boy was going to see his job place. He was fine with that. Maybe he could get him some of those deputizing stickers that the officers usually pass out students whenever they do school fairs. He was cure that Cynthia had some around somewhere.
Turning down the road to a shopping center, Jorge slowly pulled up to a stop. The dry cleaners was here where he had dropped off his suits for work to be cleaned. As he pulled into a parking space, he sighed as he turned off the ignition and unbuckled his belt.
As he began to get out, he could stop his curiosity.
“Chase, if you don’t mind me asking,” he said, “What was that…you know…name you compared me too? Christian…something? What’s that from?” he asked with a friendly smile.

Jorge
Jorge nodded. So far it seemed as if the Duke was actually, possibly started to buy their story. That bit about the bandits seemed to help cement some of that. Thankfully Jorge had a feeling that it would. It was the perfect explanation for at least SOME of their inconsistencies. Bandits making off with their horses was a good touch, good enough to hopefully make it past the Duke and his men. But he only hope that Shawn could make some believable weapons. He saw that silver bow and arrow from before and that was pretty damn convincing.
>> "Thanks for going along with this. I'm obviously grasping at straws here."
Jorge smirked, though it really was not the time to be doing it, but he couldn’t help it.
“Obviously, Sir Quincy of Beetlejuice,” Jorge muttered as he pretended to look through the bushes that Shawn had led him to.
As he did though, he actually took a second to marvel at the sight. Shawn subtly shifted himself into silver and managed to produce a pair of swords that looked balanced and well enough to fit the both of them. He really was impressed with this young X-Man. Thankfully the kid had this ability or the two of them would be sunk right now…
>> "Do you want a bow or the sword?"
“Sword,” Jorge said as he took the blade that was offered to him. It would going to look funny, them not having any sheaths to slip the swords into, but they could always chalk that up to the thieves as well.
He then watched as some nice, strong looking shields were made. One Shawn crafted with the emblem of a scorpion, and other created with a raised boar’s head on its surface. Shawn really did have an artistic eye to be able to make such things out of nothing. Part of him wondered if he was an artist or something, but before he could think too far on it, the shield was offered to him. He nodded as he took it and slipped his arm into the handles. Having a firm grip on it, he tested the weight and it certainly seemed adequate.
>> "Think they'll buy this?"
Jorge nodded. “Looks real enough to me.”
>> “I sure hope this works, otherwise this could be a really short trip."
Jorge sighed as he straightened up and gave Shawn a calming nod. “It’ll be fine. “ Jorge confirmed and slipped the sword into his belt. It would have to do until he could get a sheath for it. “We just got to stay on our toes. Ready?”
Once he got a confirmation from Shawn, Jorge turned and began to head back to the Duke and his men. Proudly Jorge continued with his character of a knight from Hogwarts (siiigh) and tried to keep the mindset of the time that they were in. As they approached, the duke and his men all eyed the weapons with confusion and wonder. The weaponry was obviously not battle hardened enough but they had a beauty about them that made the soldiers just slightly jealous. Obviously, these were the weapons of high rankings.
The duke, most of all, eyed the weapons with a near greedy-like look upon his face.
“My,” he said, “those truly are quite impressive. The crasftsmanship is quite…remarkable.” He said as he eyed them both. “But, how were you able to escape with those in hands. Those alone are worth far more than a simple pair of horses.”
Jorge nodded.
“Obviously, my lord,” Jorge said. “We, unfortunately had to make a choice when we escaped. We take our weapons, or our horses. The woods were too dense for our horses, so…we took our weapons in anticipation with meeting with more unfriendly company.”
Again, the duke narrowed his eyes as he watched the both of them. His snake-like eyes did not let a single thing escape his vision. He seemed to try to pierce into their very souls, trying to extract whatever information he could. But it was slowly becoming apparent that no matter how hard either of them tried, they would never be able to read this man’s expressions. Not the true expressions anyways.
But, he smiled.
“Wise decisions. Weaponless, you both probably would have been far worse,” he nodded “Sir Quincy, Sir Cervantes, please, join me on my trek to the castle to meet my grace. You shall find food and warm beds for the both of you.”

Jorge
Jorge did not like awkward silences, especially since he felt that this was a time for him and the boy to try to get to know each other better. But he definitely did not want to for the kid into talking to him if he didn’t want to. Thankfully, though, when he asked his question, there seemed to definitely be a twinge of intrigue in Chase’s eyes. The boy wanted to know. At least that was a topic that the detective knew he could discuss AND it would help cement their relationship a bit. After all, they were supposed to be getting to know one another, correct?
>> “No, she hasn’t.”
He nodded, keeping his eyes on the road. Gemma was more than likely just focusing on getting Chase used to his new life to really go into too much detail about himself. After all, all the boy really needed to know was that he was a cop and that he could be trusted. Gemma must have trusted him to explain more when the time came.
Jorge definitely felt that the time was right.
“Well,” the detective said as he pulled to a stop at a red light. “Check this out.”
Once he stopped, he pulled out his wallet, flipped it open, and handed it over for Chase to see. The gold shield was much like any other police badge. But it was not a fake, toy badge. It gleamed with shiny, polished metal and had a weight about it that few citizens really expected the badge to have. But underneath the badge, in his wallet, was his police ID that had to letters “M.R.C.” on it. He smirked slightly as Chase inspected the badge and ID and turned his eyes back to the green light that had just shifted.
“I work for a special division of the police department,” Jorge explained. “The M.R.C.—Mutant Related Crimes.” He eyed the road as he drove. “What that means is that I work with a lot of mutants, everyday. Sometimes they’re the bad guys and I have to arrest them, but a lot of times, they are the victims so I help them. Either way, when there is an issue involving mutants, they call me.”
Jorge still remembered the first day he had ever met Chase. He was there, working, and it was the perfect example of him being there to help a mutant. Chase was the victim of his parents, victim to a broken system. And Jorge was there to make sure that the kid, a mutant, had a fair chance at life. To make sure that he didn’t go back to his cruel parents. But Jorge didn’t bring that up.
“You know, I actually have some business there by the end of the day,” Jorge said with a warm smile. “Would you like to see where I work?”

Jorge sighed, a little satisfied with himself that he was able to hit the target again with just as much skill as he always had. A glance down the range and he saw that other shooters were not having as much luck, except for that sharp shooter he had spied earlier. Of course that man had obliterated his targets without much problem. He certainly did have a plethora of guns about his person as well. He must have been a collector, or an enthusiast…he hoped that was the extent of it.
But Jorge pushed such thoughts out of his man. So long as the man was not parading around with a bazooka and a gatling gun in his hands, he was not going to pry on his day. He needed to get his own practice in.
A glance at the target he say that his own was pretty tore up as well now. He knew that it was time to replace it.
“Everyone okay with my changing targets?” he announced to the group once the last shot was heard. Once he got the okay back from everyone, Jorge holstered his gun and plucked up a pair of targets.
Stepping out onto the range, Jorge moved to his on target and pulled it off of its place. The bullseye was pretty much gone, littered with the holes left behind by the bullets. The old target removed, Jorge replaced the target paper with a fresh sheet, as well as placed another target above that one. He wanted to try his hand at a pair of targets this time. After all, he rarely was attacked by only one person anymore.
Targets situated, Jorge headed back to his stand with a grateful nod to the rest of the shooters. Behind his stand, he replaced his goggles, replaced his earplugs and took a breath as he stared at the two targets that glared at him from across the range. His hand rested on his at his side, he took a breath and released it slowly.
Then, a second later, Jorge pulled his glock from its holster and unleashed two rounds into the twin targets that were situated ahead of him. Both had bullet holes directly in the centers of their bullseyes and the detective smirked a little.

Jorge
Jorge watched the exchange in silence. Shawn was doing his best, but he was floundering. Bad jokes were really not the best things to be throwing around today, not with the company that they were staring down. But still, the detective could not blame the kid for at least trying.
Unfortunately the tides quickly began to turn against them. The Duke’s men were eyeing Shawn as if he were something kind of harbinger. At first Jorge really did not understand why. Then he remembered the X-Men’s eyes. They were silver and more than likely it was easy for them to look just slightly unnerving, especially to this populace. They had never seen mutants before. And in a world filled with such religious turmoil that anything out of the ordinary seemed supernatural, they were definitely on the wrong side.
The last thing he wanted was to be burned at the stake, not that he couldn’t get out of that, but it was inconvenient nonetheless.
In strong silence he continued to eye the Duke who was peering closely at them. Whether or not he believed them, Jorge couldn’t tell, but watching the man closely. They were being peered at, scrutinized for validity to their stories. Finally, he spoke up…
>> "What do they call you two in your distant lands?"
Jorge’s mind whipped into a whirl. How much renaissance literature had he read in his lifetime? After all, that was his major in college. He should be able to come up with some names that would be iconic and yet vague enough to not draw suspicion. Maybe--
>> "My name is Sir Shawn Quincy, Lord of Beetlejuice. And this is my traveling companion Sir Jorge Cervantes, Duke of Hogwarts and we are X-Knights of the Round Table."
Slowly Jorge turned to look at Shawn. Was he…SERIOUS? Not only was the older cop flabbergausted but he really just had no way to register exactly what was said. He was a Duke from Hogwarts!? Should he laugh, cry, or punch Shawn out, he simply didn’t know. But he was going to have to hope that it was just ludicrous enough get past medieval nobility.
"Where are your swords and horses? Surely if you came this great distance you didn't come by foot and certainly without any protection."
>> "They're in the brush back there. We decided to leave them there and enter your domain unarmed as a sign of good faith on both our kingdoms parts. We can get them if you would like us to enter with you."
The Duke arched a brow as he peered closely at both men. His expression was unreadable until finally he muttered.
“Please do,” the man gestured to the bushes. “I would like the seen the emblems of your country for myself. I’m a collector.” He said as he motioned for them to get to the bushes to retrieve their swords. “And what of your horses? You must have traveled by some means.”
Jorge lowered his gaze a bit. Get their swords from the bushes? The detective hoped that the kid had some plan for getting out of this. He nodded to Shawn as they both began to head to the brush, but along the way he finally decided to chime in.
“Unfortunately, my lord,” Jorge said as he gestured down the road from whence they came. “My companion and I were ambushed by some rogues. A large man, with a thick mustache and dressed in red. We barely managed to get away with our swords. Our horses, unfortunately, were taken.”
A spark of recognition flittered across the Duke’s eyes.
“You both came from the west? Hmm, you must be strangers to our lands,” he chuckled. “No traveling with a right head comes from with the west without an entire guard. Those roads are infested with the Red Baron Cris and his highwaymen. We’ve yet to capture them. The woods around the road are dense. Maybe…there is some accuracy to your stories…”

>> "Maybe coming to the castle wasn't the best idea ever.”
“It would seem so,” Jorge mumbled as he paused. Slowly he turned around to face the newcomers onto the scene.
The guards were all standing a safe distance away, a pair of them holding pikes with points aimed directly at the duo. Jorge narrowed his eyes as he watched them, trying to figure some way out of this situation. Sadly every scenario he thought of involved harming these men. He doubted he would be able to shift into his water elemental form fast enough to scare them off again. And even if he managed it, these men would probably retreat to the castle to garner more forces. There where would that leave both Shawn and himself?
It was far too risky so that most he could do was to hopefully play dumb.
>> "What is you propose here? You have been caught young man, you and your Spaniard, trespassing on the Kings land. What business have ye in his domain wearing such strange attire as this?"
There they go again with that SPANIARD business! The detective knew he should have kept a closer eye on his history. Then again, who could have really anticipated something like this? What he did know was that there was a tense relationship between the English and the Spanish, though how tense really depended on the era in which they were in. For the most part, Jorge could not tell that on appearance alone.
Unfortunately, the attention seemed to be fairly focused on Shawn, rather than himself. He hoped that the kid could at least keep some of the attention off himself…
>> "First of all, he's not 'my Spaniard' he my friend. Secondly, I'd appreciate it if your pals could lower their weapons seeing as we are unarmed. And thirdly, who the heck are you?"
Jorge saw the spear being pointed roughly towards the Shawn. He would have jumped into action there, but the look in the X-Man’s eyes told him to remain calm. For the moment it looked like they were going to have to play the roles that they were dealt. Eyes on the man on horseback, and his trigger happy guards, Jorge mere watched and waited.
The royal, merely smirked on Shawn’s question. “You must be new to these lands, boy,” the man announced with a cackle. “I am Merek Seymour, Duke of Devonshire. What business do you and your Spaniard have on these lands? Be you spies?”
Jorge rolled his eyes. Of course they would think they were spies. He ground his teeth as he tried to think of some way out of this, that wouldn’t result in them altering the flow of time. Instead he merely glanced at Shawn and hoped the boy had some ace of up his slee—
“Oi,” one of the guards said as he crept closer and eyed Shawn closely. “What is wrong with your eyes? Has the devil marked you?”
