The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Megan sat up a little on her elbows and looked over at Lenna. Yeah, her clothes were pretty baggy as well. She wrinkled her nose and dove back into her phone. "Yeah, i'll help. Just let me know what you like and I can get you set up with a few different looks."
Megan liked fashion for the most part. She liked looking good and feeling cute. Lenna was pretty cute looking, so she was sure she could help her pick out some not-trash clothing.
Searching through the same map app that had led them to the hotel, she looked up clothing stores. There was even a very helpful 'open 24 hours' option!
"Sounds weird to say out loud, but it's $%#$ o'clock at night. Do you wanna go to this place that should be open now and get the shopping over with, or nap first and then do it?" She wasn't super tired since she was still running off the adrenaline of waking up in a bar fight that was also on fire, but at the same time she could probably pass out on one of the two beds pretty easily. He brain probably needed the rest at this point.
She stuffed the phone away finally and looked at Gawain, her...friend? This was gonna be weird.
"I heard about it a long time ago from my then fiance. He had been interested in going to try out for the x's at one point." From what she could recall he'd been pretty pumped about it for a few years, too... and then just gave up on the idea one day.
"He could vibrate himself to a crazy degree. Like, enough to disintegrate walls and stuff." But that was neither here nor there, really.
"I didn't get a lot of snooping done before you found me, so I think I only know the basics. There are x-men here, and classes, and students who live her-"
She paused, looking suddenly horrified. "Oh no, did I ever finish school?! Gawain, was I dumb as an adult?!"
Her education was part of her pride, honestly. If she couldn't be smarter and more attractive than everyone else then what good was she?
Megan froze like she had been turned into a goddamn statue, bright eyes locked on perfect lips as they leaned in and-- was that... honey?
She calmed the heck down a little when it kicked in that Agnes hadn't been about to swap spit with her, and instead seemed to be showing another facet of her power. She watched, patient and expectant. There was a buzzing, like you would heard from a beehive.
A fly popped out. Megan jumped a little, but hardly looked put off. Her eyes widened a bit and she followed it with her eyes until her gaze was brought back to Agnes' mouth. More bugs came out. Lots, actually! Eventually just staring at Agnes while more came out wasn't going to cut it, as there was a swarm growing. Megan glanced about in wonder, trying to pick out which bugs she knew and which she didn't. It was like a plague! A beautiful, loud, buzzing orchestra!
Perhaps a tad bit too excited about being surrounded by a sward of creepy crawlies, she looked back to Agnes as the girl spoke. A living hive, huh?
"Aggie," She reached for the girls hands, not caring if she was being too forward at the moment. "It's wonderful. You are wonderful. Something like this could never be too much. Just look how beautiful they all are!" She turned and pointed at them.
"That is the coolest thing I have ever seen!" The grin she turned back to Agnes with stretched from ear to ear. She reached up to pull the shoulder of her sweater down slightly, exposing the healing wounds from her latest batch of spiders.
"I make my spiders from my skin... and spider parts, and web. The whole works."
She thought they were cute. That in and of itself was cute. Aggie was adorable and Megan simply couldn't help but watch as she cooed at them. She could hear them chattering away happily in her mind, and smiled widely. "They say thank you. They seem to like you quite a bit already." She accepted the spiders back, lifting then so that they could scurry back into the safety of her hair. Little strings of web nearly vanished into the black, but some could be seen clinging to the ebony strands and catching the light.
She watched the wings for another moment before tearing her eyes away. She didn't want to make Agnes uncomfortable by staring too much. Instead she focused on the question Aggie had asked her. Something cool? "Sure!"
She was fully unprepared for Agnes to step closer to her, and even more unprepared when she grabbed her hand. Her face was proof of that as a deep blush bloomed on her cheeks and traveled all the way to her ears. Still, she watched with rapt attention as the skin on Aggie's arm started to move. Before her eyes it split, and the most wondrous creature slowly emerged.
Megan's face looked like a kid who had gotten exactly what she wanted for Christmas. "Oh, you are so beautiful!"
She leaned in closer so she would see all of the details of its poisonous little claws, where it's little eyes sat, everything! She reached out a finger with a short black nail and gently ran the pad over its smooth head. After a bit of embarrassing baby talk at the bug, she straightened back up and grinned at Agnes again.
"Thank you for showing me her." She didn't dare retract her hand yet. She was enjoying the girls soft grip too much, selfishly. "I can only made spider, and things related to spiders... that I know of. Is your power similar? Just one kind of insect?"
She had a guess that maybe there were more, if the wings were anything to go by, unless the wings were specifically unrelated to the centipede?
Gah, @#$%. She grinned back while rubbing the side of her healed nose bashfully. "Drunk people, apparently.. but it's okay because it healed just fine. Though I wouldn't have complained too much about a dashing scar."
Having Agnes scoot in so close that she could smell what kind of shampoo she used set off pleasant warning bells and a blush swamped her pale cheeks. She tried not to be a creep by politely turning her head slightly.
"Kinda a pet, I suppose. I made her, er... I'm a mutant too."She held her palm out with the little spider as it scuttled cutely across her black, sparkly nails. "I have a few others as well. They tend to hang out in my hair where birds can't peck at them."
It wasn't super surprising that the girl with beautiful bug wings wasn't freaked out by spiders, and yet it also kinda was. Even some hardcore men she had met tended to have a fear of any and all arachnids.
With a silent call, she had two more skittering out from her dark tresses, one dropping down past her eyebrow to land on one (still red) cheek, and the other crawling down the side of her exposed neck. She hurried to collect them gently in her other palm and held them out towards Agnes.
"You can hold them if you want, Aggie. They don't bite unless I tell them to."
Another brief silence settled over her until she found herself peeking at the pretty girls wings again.
Pretty name? Shit, her blush was stuck now wasn't it. "Aggie. I like it."
She watched the wings flutter, appreciating how the light reflected through them. She'd never thought something usually so tiny would look like stained glass when human sized.
"If I've learned anything from this city it's to never get close enough for someone to retaliate. Call me a coward if you want, but I like my face as it is. Don't want to get punched again." She grinned in a pleasant way, "I'm from a pretty small town originally... The kind where dudes like that wouldn't have survived for long. Here though... yeesh, seems like the city it crawling with them."
A little black spider tumbled from her hair onto the shoulder of her sweater. She glanced at it for a moment before lifting a hand and letting it crawl into her palm. IT was a little jumping spider and had little blue pinpricks for eyes that matched her own. She had found she was rather fond of the little goofs, the more she played with her power.
"Um.. it was a how from a while ago. Old black and white one. Each episode was like, abstract, slightly scary ideas. like 'What if everyone but you had cat heads'.. that sort of thing." She didn't know how to explain it any better.
She threw herself on one of the two beds with a groan.
"I mean... I guess it's not impossible or anything. Mutants can do a lot, right?"
What Lenna was saying didn't sound any more or less far fetched than any other ideas Megan had come up with. Maybe they had both been kidnapped or something? Their likenesses used for nefarious purposes? Shit, she didn't know.
"I'd like to use my cards to buy some other clothing. I feel like a wannabe punk rocker who doesn't know her own size."
She sighed. She'd heard that tone before. "I'm 16, and my parents consented... not that it matters much now."
The teen pouted at the phone, scrolling through more numbers she didn't recognize. "I guess that's better than the dinky little motel I've been in since I woke up here. Either this, or go home to Oregon and see what might still be there for me." She wasn't sure about that idea though... what if everything was gone? Parents left, or... dead? Siblings to the wind. She sighed.
"Thank you."
She glanced away from the phone when he brought up her powers. "I figured, a little... a few of them had been following me around since I woke up. I didn't know I could make them until the other day, when-- er... I don't wanna talk about it." Hadn't been the most pleasant discovery ever. Still got the creepy crawlies, too. "... then there's the vision thing. I haven't gotten the hang of that yet though."
If she was going to learn anything from the first one, it was definitely 'don't get punched again'. Her delicate face couldn't handle the heat, so she didn't want to go anywhere near the kitchen. If this was going to be a regular occurance maybe she'd just invest in a stun gun.
Right now though, there were more important things to focus on.
"Mine all say my name, but the ID is not my face. Same birthday... Same height and- oh no, I could not possibly weigh that much." Was this the twilight zone? What the hell was going on?
While the maps app gave them bread crumbs to follow, she poked through the rest of the phone. Quite a few contacts, up not very many calls. What kinda name was Magawainya?? She wasn't looking for any social media sites because the only one she was even remotely familiar with had been Yourspace, and she wasn't away that modern day phones had apps for that.
She did find a plethora of cat pictures and meme's though. Too bad she also didn't know what a meme was.
After making it to the little rundown motel she got them checked in. The woman behind the counter hardly looked up from her phone through the whole process, which helped honestly. Megan felt like she looked mighty suspicious with lenna and her truding in at this time of night in too big clothes and with obvious signs of a scuffle.
She didn't relax until they were safely inside the room and the room was locked, and even then it was hard to loosen back up.
"Lenna." She wasn't worried about outing the other girl right at the moment, on the off chance that it could help the situation.
The idea that another mutant had done it sounded plausible. She had considered it herself after talking with Lenna. It didn't make it any easier to accept, though.
Megan flopped back on the bed she had sat on with a groan, throwing an arm over her eyes dramatically. "But i'm not from here. I'm from backwater Oregon. I had a life and friends and a fiance..." Sure, she had been having second thoughts about the wedding, but there had still been plenty of time to think it over! "... and I wasn't a mutant, either. This is all so... new, and strange. I just wanna go home."
But she couldn't, because home was in the past and might not even exist anymore.
"I don't even know where the older version of me lived because she didn't seem to want to update her ID card for some reason, and her stupid phone--" Cutting herself off, she jolted back up on the bed with wide eyes.
"If you were friends with her... maybe you could make some sense of her phone? There were names and numbers in there but most of them were disconnected. A few addresses that didn't lead anywhere livable..."
She fished the blacked cased phone out of her pocket and unlocked it with her thumb, scrolling back through the contacts quickly. "Now that I think about it, I think there was a name in here that sounded like yours."
Ah, there it was. She shuffled off her bed to bring the phone to him. The contact page that greeted him stated 'Magawainya' With a picture of a girl scout as an icon.
Would flannel learn anything? Maybe. She would place her chips on a bet that he crawled back home to complain online to the rest of his bro buddies about slags never understanding him.
Tucking her weapon away, she watched as the woman started walking. Her cheeks flushed little at how cute the walking backwards was, when combined with her question.
"Absolutely!" A smile stretched red painted lips and she hurried along, straightening her sweater out as she went. Once they were far enough away she didn't have to worry about Flannel possibly hearing her, she introduced herself.
"I'm Megan." She offered, tucking her hands into the pockets of her dress to avoid the chill on the air. "Sorry if you already had something planned for dealing with that chump. Seeing @#$%boys out in the wild makes me irrationally angry. They belong in zoos."
Taking a moment to eye the woman, she decided she couldn't be much older than herself... and was dressed very imaginatively. Attractive, certainly. It didn't escape Megan that since she was super into herself, she would be super into someone else who shared similar beauty traits.
"I would really appreciate that, actually... I've never been punched before so this is a little unfamiliar." She winced, and then winced again because wincng hurt.
"I've got some money on me, so I can probably swing it." Then again, she probably needed to make sure that was still accurate before making any promises. Anyone at that bar could have taken her wallet while she was out. Where had her purse gone?
Lenna made a little sound behind her, so Megan stopped and turned to look. She was looking at her wallet. Megan patted around for her own wallet, any wallet, and found a slim one tucked in the other butt pocket. It was a men's style leather one. Flipping it over with her thumb she spotted a little bit of cash peeking out the top, some credit cards she was unfamiliar with, and an ID she was unfamiliar with.
They all had her name on them though.
... Nope, she didn't wanna deal with this right now. Hotel first, mental break down later.
"I've got credit cards. We're good." Was her voice just a tiny bit shaky? You bet the hell it was.
Her nose wrinkled at the other girls response. Her creeper senses had activated correctly, it seemed. The spider mutant turned her attention back to Flannel and she started picking him apart with her eyes. He wasn't terribly muscular, but had some mass to him. She could see hidden strength in the muscles of his forearms where he had his terribly hipster sleeves rolled up. She could see a few tattoos peeking out here and there, so he was comfortably with pain at least to a certain degree. There were plenty of pockets and folds in his attire for him to hide a weapon or two, and his Ego was clearly out of control. And Ew, god... those kissing sounds.
She huffed and glanced back at the girl. "It's funny you should say that." She didn't elaborate further, digging into one pocket of her pretty dress and pulling out a little gun shaped taser that was very much illegal in the city.
"You're choice where he get's hit." She lifted the self defense weapon and aimed, tongue poking out a little bit and one eye squeezed shut.
Flannel seemed to finally get he wasn't wanted, but before he could beat a hasty retreat Megan fired at him. The little darts were able to close the distance in the blink of an eye, landed right where she wanted them to, and Flannel was down for the count.
Five seconds later he stopped thrashing around from the voltage, and started groaning. Megan popped the spent cartridge out and tossed it. She turned to the other girl with a humor filled grin.
Black jeans and red flannel man didn't seem to know a clear dismissal when one was sent his way. He began idly following the pretty lady at a lazy amble.
Megan noticed that she was no longer alone as she came out of staring off into space. A young woman was heading her way, probably to enjoy the view of the lake like she had. She nodded back in greeting, wearing a tired smile herself.
She also noticed flannel man after the woman has taken a spot by the railing. He was heading their way with hands in his pockets, and a little crooked smirk on his lips.
Flannel was so ugly. Ew. She didn't get a good feeling from him.
"Someone you know?" She didn't often reach out to strangers these days what with losing a good chunk of her life, but her female intuition could generally peg a threat from some distance away. She could feel herself stiffening up and shifting her stance into something else, for a reason she still had yet to grasp.
She wasn't a fighter, or, at least she hadn't been at her current age. She got the impression that her older self had been a bit of a hard ass and it was rubbing off on her now. Thus, she wasn't about to stand around idly and let some dude bro harass anyone in front of her.
Moving through mirrors was... weird. She wasn't entirely sure she liked it, but maybe that was just the situation talking.
It seemed that this Gawain guy knew her, the older her, quite a bit. Once they were outside the glass again and she had adjusted to the startling sensation of things chatting away in her head, she plopped herself down on one of the beds as well.
"I dunno, but it's a real @#$% show, that's for sure."
She crossed her arms and a leg as she thought it over, trying to get the puzzle pieces to fit. So far hammering them together wasn't working.
"So, when I woke up I was in this nasty bar, and there was like a huge fight going on. Some other girl was there too and we beat a retreat together. She was just as confused as me about where she was and how she had gotten there."
She'd had been pissed that was for sure. "If there were two of us out there with similar situations, do you think it could still be traveling through time? Or... were we dragged here for some reason? Where did older me go?"
She thought about it for a second more."I did wake up in clothes that were definitely not mine, and too big for me..."
