The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Andrea's stomach often ruled her life. A sad, but true fact. She found herself wandering around a local food mall, hungrily eyeballing the various stalls and shops. Her hunt was stopped, however, when she caught sight of a child. A kid who couldn't have been all that old, who was by himself. She knew this, because she had spent a good while watching him... just to make sure.
After building up the courage to approach him, she had asked as calmly and nicely as possible if he was alright, and where his parents were. The kid have given her a look of mixed panic and confusion, lowering the corn-dog he had half eaten. She had been just about to ask if he needed any help, when his face screwed up in the strangest manner... and he sneezed. Right. In. Her. Face.
The unexplainable pain and confusion that followed, was lost to her, as she shrieked and pitched head long into darkness...
---
When her eyes opened again, she could not help but cry.
She was in an unfamiliar place... There were strange people everywhere, and her parents where nowhere to be found. On top of that, she had these odd serpents stuck to her head.. and they were very mean! They bit at her, and hissed at her. She didn't like it all all. Andrea rubbed at her eyes, standing alone in the middle of a crowded food court. People walked on by like she wasn't even there... and she was too afraid to ask for help. Voices were buzzing everywhere, in strange dialects and unfamiliar tones. She could recognize some of the words, because her daddy spoke in the same way sometimes. Late at night, when he thought she was asleep. She always heard the hushed, angry conversations... but she could never make out the words.
Sniffling, she glanced around. The boy she woken up to had taken off, and she wasn't sure why. One moment he had been there, not moving an inch while staring at her, and the next he blinked, jumped, and had turned to run. The nine year old figured that he had hurt her somehow, even though she couldn't find a scratch on her body, and that was why he had fled. Everything on her just throbbed, and though it was getting better little by little, it upset her all the same. Rubbing at one eye with the palm of her hand, she turned and tried to find someone to help her. It would be hard, she knew.. since none of the faces around her were familiar at all.
Her confusion tripled, when she moved to take a step from the stop she had been standing in, and found that the clothes she had one were far to big for her. Her shoes slipped easily off of her feet, and she was swimming in a black t-shirt. The coat she had been wearing had slipped off entirely, and the arm length snake that had a hold of her refused to let her put it back on. The shorts she had been wearing came off completely, pooled around her feet, but with how long her shirt was in her, she hardly needed them. Sniffling, she turned and glanced around, taking the large glasses from the bridge of her nose. A man in a nice suit had been watching, though wary of the obvious mutant, he was still more than a little concerned for her. He walked over, kneeling next to her, and placed a hand gently on her shoulder. "...Are you alright? What happened to you?" He had seen the whole thing, or at least the transformation. It had looked... painful, and he wasn't sure if it was some strange power of hers or not.
Andrea sniffled and looked over at him, wiping her nose on the back of one gloved hand. "...Am lost... help?" The thickness of her accent nearly kept her words from being pronounced right. But, as luck would have it, he had heard her. The man's kind Grey eyes sought her's out, and he searched her face in a concerned manner. She was lost? He'd have to bring her to mall security, and let them handle it then. His eyes met hers, and he went completely ridged. Andrea blinked up at him, tugging on his arm when he didn't answer her. The action caused the man to topple over, and she barely scampered back out of the way before she squished her. Her heart sped up like a rabbits, hammering away inside her chest as she stared at the still figure of the guy, and when a woman caught sight of the fallen man and came over to investigate, she made the mistake of looking at the child beside him first.
The lady toppled over too, stiff as a board, and joined the man on the floor. Andrea shrieked and ran for it, frightened beyond measure and not understanding in the least what was happening. She didn't make it far, before running face first into someone's leg. The nine year old let out a soft oof! and dropped back onto her rump, frightened tears running down her cheeks.
"yessss" Started one Slug twin, while the other rubbed her hands together happily. Their miniature slugs were working perfectly. "We have a job for each of you, a special, unique job..."
Andrea turned, from watching the boy in the costume as he assaulted a wall... wondering if she too, should join in, and blinked as she was approached by one of the twins. It paused before her, brown and green splotched face slimy and concentrated. Without warning, it grabbed her cheeks in its oozy mitts, and warbled off some strange tune that she couldn't understand the words of. "This woman is now a child of the slime! You have been reborn, sister! Rejoice!"
The hands were retracted, trailing sticky slime with them, and she reached up to touch the goop on her face. Normally, she knew such a thing would have been rather upsetting, but she could not help but feel a swell of pride in her chest. "Woohoo!" Throwing her arms in the air, she grinned widely. The little slug on the side of he neck wiggled behind a curtain of dark hair, sharing in the joy it was feeding it's host.
"Now, Sister, you shall bestow the gift of our people upon anyone you come across. Share our love with them, to bring them back to the side of good!" The Slug sister before her stepped away, still within arms reach, and grunted. "Hhhhnnnggg!" From a special pouch on it's belly, it pulled a arm full of newly born parasite slugs, then offloaded them into Andrea's arms. The Greek looked down at her squirming, gooey bundle, and frowned momentarily... before her neck slug sent a current of motherly affection through her system.
"D'awww! They are all so very cute! look'atcu!" She leaned down and rubbed her nose against one, cooing in a motherly manner. "Who's the cutest slug ever?! Who's the cutest slug ever?! you are! yes, yooou are!"" Then, she looked back up, smiling brightly through the slug slime dripping from her face and nodded at the two. "I will share our love, yes! I WILL SHARE THE LOVE!" Pride swelled in her chest, and she saluted the slug twins with renewed vigor. She had a misson now, and she would. not. fail them!
The Slug Twins exchanged glances. Maaaaybe their children were working just a little too well. With a shrug, they turned to the next...
Andrea felt her heart sink a little, and her breathing hitched to a panicked rate. There was no escape... no exit. Her limbs tingled slightly as a wave of weakness washed over her. She honestly felt like giving up... like dropping to her knees and waving the white flag.
Bent over, her hands on her knees as she attempted to catch her breath and slow her heart beat, she heard the approach of the yellow beast and froze. Sloth moved quickly, uncurling himself from around the man's arm she had bulldozed into. He positioned himself around her shoulders, poised and ready to strike if need be, and hissed as loud as he possibly could.
Andrea squeezed her eyes shut, dropping to her knees and curling in on herself while willing the world to go away....
The drooling mutant had them cornered, delightfully cornered. The game was coming to an end, and it was the victor. As always. She couldn't wait to revel in her spoils, both of them, from what she could smell! Brazenly stepping closer to the two cornered morsels, its tilted head at the sudden hissing, tendrils of drool dangling from it's chompers. "Is that a challenge, I hear? Oooh~ goody Goody!"
She was beginning to freak out, and rightly so. Her mind was a haze of 'let's pretend this isn't happening' with a splash or two of blind panic and flashbacks to very unpleasant times.
She didn't even notice his hand at her throat until he started squeezing.... and by that time, there was little she could do to stop him. A few fear filled moments were spent wrapping a gloved hand around his, intent to try and pry it off, while absently reminding herself how similar this felt to when her snakes had parted from her one by one. A slow, pressure in her head that grew and grew... until she felt numb, and her vision faded.
... She awoke later, jostled slightly from little bumps in the road, and from words being thrown her way, from a voice that was both oddly comforting and frightening. She blinked behind her glasses, her head lolling from one side to the other, before everything came back to her, sluggishly.
Where was she?... in a car? She could see rain in the windshield, ever wiped away as it fell by the wipers. She could feel a seat belt strapping her to the seat, and she could hear the sound of tires rolling happily through puddles and across wet pavement. And... she could also feel her neck, throbbing gently... a painful reminder of what had just happened. His words were suddenly no longer comforting... and she felt the overwhelming desire to run. Where was he taking her? Why was he acting like this? It felt to the frightened Greek as if her nightmares had pushed past the borders of their dream worlds, and were slowly invading her reality. She cast a quick, sidelong look at Martin... and her body acted on it's own accord. One hand flew to unbuckle her seat belt, while the other reached for the door.
She wasn't even really thinking anymore. Fear had overridden the little part of her that made sense now days... She felt the need to run, and run she would. A light up ahead shifted from green, to yellow, to red... and she had her door open. Intent on flinging herself out, and making a run for it.
A certain Greek had been out and about, poking about in one shop after another, looking for gift ideas for those friends she had only recently reunited with. There were several birthdays she needed to make up for, a hand full of earnest 'I am very, very sorry' gifts, and a few things for herself that she needed quite badly. Like a new toothbrush, socks... and basically everything she had been forced to leave behind after being abducted from the Sanctuary. ...not that she was complaining. In the span of a few blessed days, she had found her love again, and she felt happier than she had in a looong while.
In fact, she was walking on clouds, and it honestly felt like nothing in the world could bother her.
It was probably the fact that she had been waltzing around out in the open, with her hair down and her snakes hanging freely, that had drawn the attention of two quietly chattering slugs her way. They had followed her a short distance, whispering to each other about the various useful things her special breed of mutation seemed to offer... until...
"Oh dear! I am soooo sorr...y" Picking herself up off the ground, she reached for her glasses, already wincing at what she had done. Some poor man had rushed out of a shop at the wrong time, a hot coffee cup in his hands, and bumped right into her. Unfortunately for him, her glasses had been bumped from her face and he had caught full sight of her eyes. As well as spilled his coffee all over the front of his suit. Andrea quickly picked up her bags again, unable to do anything more than tilt his cup back into an upright position, and place the hat that had fallen from his head back on him.
The two slug twins slithered on behind her as she scrambled away from the scene, eyeballing the effect her eyes had had on the man. They shared a swift nod and a glance, took hold of each others slimy hands, and followed.
Currently:
Unfortunately for Andrea, she had been unknowingly drafted into their devious little plan. During the course of the day, she had been jumped and a miniature version of the slug twins had been slapped onto the side of her neck. She had been told to follow them... and for some off reason, had.
Really, she couldn't quite put her finger on it. Still, she ended up with two others, casting confused glances right and left, while the twins that had brought her with them rounded their pawns together outside of some sort of factory.
"You all have been brought here for a very important mission! My kind... our kind," One started, motioning to the other, "is being tortured and eradicated right this very moment, all over the world... and this evil, vile building, is one of the culprits!"
The other stepped forward, switching places with its twin. "Our mission today is to make sure no more vile deeds are done with the product that this factory produces. We will raze this building to the ground, if we have to!"
Andrea listened, and due to the little pulsating slug on her neck, was compelled to agree with most of what had been said. A factory that churned out nothing but destruction? It could not be allowed to continue! She turned curious glanced to either side, wondering how her companions in arms were reacting...
Power: Creation of smaller slugs, which can be attached to other people- both human and mutant. The parasite then feeds the wants and needs of the Slug twins into he hosts. The host is urged to protect the slug twins and follow commands, often without knowing why. The slug being attached to the victim can cause slight feelings of intoxication- similar to those of being tipsy. The removal of the slug ends the effect. The host returns unharmed to his or her natural state.

Plot:
The slug twins have had enough. They have been forced to sit back and watch for countless years, as their smaller insect cousins are killed off in the most inhumane way possible. Salt.
They hate that mineral with everything in their squishy, slimy bodies. After so long of keeping the feelings suppressed, they have finally worked up the courage to take action! The twins have decided to round up a handful of unwitting helpers, and stage a hostile takeover on a salt factory. They intent to burn the building to the ground!
She had been avoiding it for far too long. Since she was back, since Saph had already convinced her to stay, she knew that it was only a matter of time before she ran into old faces. Though the shame of having left them behind with no warning, with no apology, was still a ever present shadow on her heart, she knew it had come time.
Taking a deep breath, she reached out and turned the doorknob to her old room.
It was just as she remembered it, the beds, the walls... She felt tiny tears prick the corners of her eyes, and bit down on the inside of her cheek to keep them at bay. Now was not the time for tears... not just yet, anyway. Taking a slow step into the room, her eyes fell on he bed first. It had been clothed in a new blanket... one she had never seen before.
The Greek automatically assumed that the bed belonged to someone else, some new roommate, and while the thought of that wounded her slightly, she understood. She had left without so much as a word to Verdi... hardly even a goodbye written down on paper. She could not blame the girl at all, and wouldn't. Orange eyes slipped across the room, the dresser they had shared, to the bathroom, and all of the other things that tugged at her memory. She found herself smiling slightly. Sloth, and the other small snakes within the darkness of her hair were not as impressed with the room as she was.
They could smell... something. A musky scent. Prey... Something yappy, that they were absolutely sure would taste wonderful. As if on cue, Andrea started to smell something too. She was able to point out what it was, though. It was the very feint smell of a dog. For some strange reason.. it made her mouth water a little. Blinking, the Greek chalked it up to being peckish, and decided that it would be best to leave.
Whatever Verdi had been doing, she was sure that the girl had gotten along just fine without her. Perhaps this new roommate, to whom the patch work blanket belonged to, had stepped up to fill any sort of hole she might had left behind. Turning, with the intent to leave... she stopped dead in her tracks...
Gently, she touched her hair, and the newly born snakes within. It was still a bit of a mystery, but she wasn't in the mood to question it right now.
It did bother her a little though, that he had gone to the church. He knew about what had happened to her, at the very least that she had been attacked. She didn't very well like that... nor did she really like the notion that he had been trying to track her down.
"Yes... a shower would do me some good, you as well it seems. Um... How much did you hear... about.. well, you know..."
She asked quietly, standing and turning her back to him. Sloth peered at him from over her shoulder, orange beady orange eyes locked on. Among the many things she wanted to say, to ask, that was hovering at the top of her list... as well as how she had gotten into his room in the first place.
"...Do you..um, have anything I can wear... like glasses?" She asked after a moment. She was tired of having to stare at the floor, or the walls. She wanted to look at him like a normal person.
Something about the way he spoke dragged her from her thoughts. She glanced over at him, making sure to keep her eyes pinned on the floor.
Could she live with such a burden? The idea of him putting himself in harms was was ditsressing... but. if she did leave, he would be alone. There would be no one to tend to his wounds, to yell at him for being so reckless in the first place... No, she knew that if she left she'd never survive without him. Not anymore, anyway.
His own confession came back to her, and she sniffled, smiling despite the fact that her mood hadn't changed all that much. She was still unsure... still hurting, and still very, very frightened.
... but having him close by made all of that better somehow. Dropping her hands from her hair, she wiped the tears away from her cheeks and clamed Sloth down. The large snake was uncomfortable being so close to the man who had given him the scar on his face. She turned slightly so that she could see the plate of food she had brought, and giggled.
"I brought it for you... actually. I am not all that hungry." Really, if she had intended to feed herself as well, she would have cleared out half of the fridge. Reaching out to take the plate, she help it out to him and smiled, watching his hands in the absence of her glasses. "... I thought you looked awfully hungry when I woke up, so I wanted to make sure you were fed. I do hope I made it alright."
His confession caused her heart to skip a beat. He admitted many things, but none of them hurt her more than his admission of the danger he had put himself in because of her. The color would have washed from her face, if physically possible. She shuddered, allowing herself to be scooped up into a fierce hug... and stared wide eyed at the wall behind them.
Slowly, as if any fast movements would cause such a fragile moment to shatter like glass, she pulled away. She wanted so desperately to look him in the eyes, to search the colorless gray for answers to the many questions sprang to life from his words... but she couldn't. Her features twisted into a mix of confusion and concentration, and she stared pointedly at his chest... where her hands sat motionless. Palms flat against his shirt.
Of everything that had happened to her since leaving... the idea that she had caused him such pain struck her hard. She was the reason he looked so terrible. She was the reason he hadn't slept for eaten... she was the reason he had driven himself into the ground.
A certain cockroaches words came floating back to her and she sucked a breath in sharply, her lips pulling back into a pained, silent snarl. A look of absolute horror overtook her eyes, and she broke contact with him. The man she had just confessed her love to... the man who had just confessed his love back.
You play innocent, act coy... One might even think you were a good person... You know better, though...
She shuddered involuntarily, taking a quick step away and then another. Turning, her hands flew to her hair, then her ears... as if she could block that terrible, terrible voice out. Images flashed through her mind... of her dreams. Silent, unmoving figures. Cold bodies that had long been forced into violent retirement from life. Saph's unblinking gaze...
You are the most pathetic and cruel type of monster. The type that lies about it.
"...I... I cannot.." Her fingers balled into fists, tugging hair and small wiggling snakes alike. "...I can't do this... I should not fill that hole in your heart... I should not be anything to you! I should not even be in this country!" She set herself down on the bedside, facing away from him, eyes squeezed shut. "I will only hurt you... This is all a lie... I cannot be what I am not..." Salty tears slipped out, racing down her cheeks and onto her clothed knees. "I refuse to be what I am not, if it means hurting you any further!"
She was unsure if moving on was the best idea... but figured that there was a better chance of blending into the crowd if she wasn't by herself. So, she followed along, fidgeting with her hands in her pockets the whole way, her jacket tucked in the crook of one arm.
As they transitioned between sets, she took to wondering about what the next scene would be like. It was supposedly action related, if she had heard right over the murmur of other mutants talking. The Greek hoped dearly that it would be better secured to prevent any more incidents from happening, especially with any type of fighting going on. While the others questioned the best place to stand and watch, she neglected to notice if she had separated herself form the two she had been sitting with. Carving a path between people standing around, since she was too short to see over heads, and slim enough to squeeze between others easily.
The few who noticed her politely let her pass, while those who didn't hear her pardon herself as she moved, or just didn't give a damn, were treated to an angry snake. One who didn't like being touched with elbows and shoulders and was quite happy with voicing his displeasure with hisses loud enough to earn her a nice little bubble of space to see, big enough for a few people to stand on either side of her, right up at the front of the crowd.
She was too busy staring at the cranes and rigging to really care how Sloth might have been affecting those around her, though. Images of the circuses she had seen on TV as child came flooding back, and she found herself filled with a giddy, child like joy for a few moments.
The serpents in her hair wiggled, visibly distressed by her train wreck of emotions. It felt like the world was all coming back to her, from deep within the haze her medication had built up around her. She could feel her scalp, the wetness and the pain of the recently birthed snakes. Andrea could not wrap her mind around them being back... it still seemed like it was only yesterday that they had all been violently lopped off.
Saph stepped forward, wrapped his arms around her, and everything just.... stilled. She could feel her heart beating and the panicked way she was breathing... but she could also feel Saph's heart. It calmed her. She relaxed, leaning into his embrace, and let herself weep. "...Oh saphirus... I am so sorry I left."
Slowly, with heavy arms, she returned the hugs. It was needed... she needed it very much. After having to more or less block him from her mind for so long, she was determined to let herself have this one thing. "I never meant to hurt anyone.. I thought everyone would be better off without me here.. I... I..."
Standing on her tippy-toes, she wrapped her arms around his neck again and buried her face into the crook of his shoulder. "I missed you so much... A day did not go by that I did not regret leaving." The snakes on her head shifted, leaning away from Saph as Sloth did. Their presence brought her straight back to that night.. the church, as he had mentioned. She sobbed, and squeezed her eyes shut tight. "...I love you...."
Her serpents were starting to react to her panic, Sloth squirmed uneasily. He recognized the man who blocked their path... he was a danger to be avoided. But the other, smaller snakes did not hold the same knowledge. A few of them let out little hisses, being too small to strike out or do any real damage from where Andrea stood. She froze on the spot, shaking slightly and wringing her hands in front of her.
He... didn't want her to leave. "...I cannot stay... I will not put y-" She caught herself at the last minute, and dropped her eyes from the wall next to him, to the floor. "I do not want to put anyone in danger.. I cannot live with myself if I harm the people here..."
More tears pricked at her eyes, and she clenched her hands at her sides. "Everyone is better off if I am far away..." She recalled everything she had said, but was aware enough at the present to make the connections between the dots. Saph had been still and silent... he had probably been affected by her power. That meant that he hadn't heard her confessions... and she could leave him be without affecting him anymore than she already had.
One of her newly birthed snakes fell into her vision, and she finally paid attention to it. Orange eyes went wide, the salty tears captured in her lashes dripped and she stared in wonder at small black snake hanging before her face.
...they... were back? For real? Her vision swam again, and she reached out for something to steady her. Her mind couldn't keep up with all of this... these... things that were happening. "...Wha-... How.. are they back?" Slapping a palm to her forehead, she squeezed her eyes shut and clenched her teeth. She could feel a headache coming on.
The momentary spell of unconsciousness wore off, and she came too again. Only... this time she was back on a bed, and Saph was there... fanning her gently. She sat bolt upright, connecting face first with his face... only, nothing happened. Sloth was jostled around her neck, and her hair wiggled nervously. She was breathing harder, almost panicked. "What am I doing here?" She asked, her voice quiet and soft.
She wasn't supposed to be here! Not for real! "I am not supposed to be here! Take me back! Take me back right now!"
She hurried off the bed, tugging her shirt down to cover part of her exposed midsection, and headed straight for the door. She didn't know what was going one... how she had gotten from one place to the other, but she knew that she absolutely could not stay.
Her muttered lyrics were interrupted by a voice, a voice she had longed to hear for a while. The Greek reveled in it for a long while, not bothering to reply to him... and then Piggy jumped on in and ruined it.
With a giggle, she scooped the squirming pink thing up in her arms, and detached herself from Saph's lap. Half dancing across the room while muttering sweet nothings in her native language to the creature. She had gotten fatter... somehow Andrea found that fitting.
"...I do not want to wake up from this... Oh! I wonder if the Garden will be here..."
Turning, she started to move back toward Saphirus, intent on dragging him with her. Though, it was her dream, so he'd probably be more than willing. Instead, one of the small snakes squirming around in her heair got in a fight with another, and it ended with her getting nipped on the ear.
She hissed at the pain, one hand flying to the little pinpricks, and when she pulled it back there were little spots of blood on her fingertips. The Gorgon blinked, her lips parting in confusion. She didn't feel pain in dreams... not physical pain, anyway. Not like that...
In an instant, reality came crashing in like the Koolaid man, not caring in the least for her carefully constructed mental walls. She dropped Piggy like a sack of potatoes, earning a squeal of surprise, and felt her head swim. "...I am... not dreaming." Her cheeks heated to the point where it felt like her face had caught on fire, and she turned brown from her toes to her nose.
She had just been in Saph's lap.... the *real* saph's lap. SHE HAD JUST PLAYED WITH HIS HAIR. The Greek toppled, fainting dead away, droppin to her knees before planting her face into the floor.
