The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Juka watched the preparations being made for his band to come out on stage from behind the curtain seperating the venue from the backstage area. Over the course of the next 20 minutes the drum set of the previous band was taken down and the drum set of his band was put up. Sound checks were done on the guitar, keyboard, drums, bass and mic to make sure that everything was working to perfection. Finally done the lights began to dim and the crowd began chanting. Adrenaline raced through Juka's system; this was what he was here for, this was what made life worth living. There was absolutely nothing in the world quite like having hundreds of fans chanting his name and the name of his band and that included his almost incomparable bubbles.
Juka waited two full minutes, letting the anticipation build in the crowd, before sending out his first bandmate. Kane, the drummer, was the first one through the curtain, long purple hair framing his delicate features. He was a colour-mancer, changing and shaping colours to his will. It wasn't much of a power in a fight, save perhaps as a distraction, but as a performer it was perfect.
Daemon on keyboards was next. His hair was very blond and spiked, his eyes pale blue and piercing. He wore skin tight leather and chains, the most punk rock character in the band. He had the ability to create fireworks and they had spent many long hours practicing to have the fireworks erupt in time with the music. Who needed expensive production when you had an all mutant band anyway?
Tsune and Kane were next, siblings and both anthopormorphic animal mutants. Tsune, on base, was a silky soft furry arctic fox and Kane, her older brother, a black and white lemur mutant. They were as close as two siblings could be and made for an exotic and engaging site, standing on stage together.
Finally the band was on stage waiting only for Juka. For another half a minute he waited, building the crowd into a frenzy, before stepping out onto the stage. For his first show he opted for something of a gothic lolita look, a frilled black lace dress working in stark contrast to his high bright orange hair. He wore fishnets and tall stilletto boots. The crowed absolutely erupted and he stood there simply taking it all in. Yes, this was life. This was what it meant to be alive.
For once Juka wasn't the one paying for drinks and that was a strange feeling. He was often the one to pay simply because he was the one with money to spare. What did he care about a few hundred dollars when his visa card was always full and paid off? Still, it was nice for once to have someone else with cash in hand. He was starting to feel the effects of the alcohol in his system and decided to slow down a bit. Alcohol might make for a good time, but he wasn't about to get drunk; not only was it not fun for him but most girls didn't much like drunken idiots either.
Juka grinned, imminently satisfied, as the quartet of women first bought them drinks and then made their way over to the trio of guys. He bowed deeply as Sam made the introductions and gently took the hand of Jess and kissed it. "It is my pleasure to meet you loveliest of ladies. You are stunning as the most beautiful summer's day." Some might have found such words condescending and most would have used such words as a fake come-on but Juka had always spoken what was on his mind and it wasn't really his fault that he preferred the elegant and poetic to the blunt.
Next Juka turned his attention to Erica. "And you, my sweet damsel, are the very image of perfect beauty. It is my absolute pleasure to meet the both of you." He thought they might have been sisters, but wasn't certain.
If there was one thing that Juka understood (and in his opinion there were several things that he understood) it was attention. Attention was a glorious thing, it helped to affirm one's own importance. Perhaps it was a selfish thing also but it didn't really serve to do any harm so he saw no reason to be ashamed of the fact. Deirdre seemed to agree with him in her own way, given her admittance.
"I don't like women the way I like men, but I don't mind if they like me."
"Maybe you just don't know what you're missing," Juka said with a wink. He supposed it was a rather modern view even to not mind attention from both sexes but there just didn't seem to be too many that appreciated both the way he did. Well, he certainly wasn't doing anything in life for the approval of others. Attention seeking or not, he was his own person now and for the rest of his life.
"So, Juka, you say you like attention too. Does it matter to you where it comes from? If you don't mind my asking, of course."
"If you're narcissistic I guess I'm just as bad," Juka admitted, laughing. If one couldn't laugh at oneself who could one laugh at? "I'm a singer in a band and I dress like an eccentric woman so I figured it went without saying that I like attention." He grinned at Deirdre, taking a sip of his orange juice. "I don't really do it for the attention, of course, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate it. I just like to look beautiful and colorful and not like anyone else." It wasn't much of a leap to figure that she might be curious about his fashion sense.
I just wanted to bump this one more time before making my next post. Anyone want to join Raina in seeing Juka's first official performance in New York?
Saph's advice on how to attract someon in a club actually made sense to Juka. There were times, of course, that he actively pursued the man or woman of his eye, but more often he would let them come to him. It wasn't intentional so much as the fact that people simply were attracted to him, at least the sort of people that frequented his favourite sorts of clubs. He knew he had charisma and he certainly had style. Plus, the fact that he was in a band didn't hurt and even way over here in America people occasionally recognized him from his days in Ukime.
"You see, when you are going for the kinda girl you meet at a bar... It's nice to think that they will like you for you, but a large percent of them are just too shallow... That's why you are mostly having a one night stand, and not a real relationship, you know?"
"Isn't that kind of the point?" Juka asked. He knew where they were and the type of people one tended to attract in a place like this. He certainly wasn't looking for some serious long term commitment and only the truly desperate came to a club looking for a relationship. When at all possible Juka avoided those types. He didn't want a commitment but he wasn't a player and he didn't want to hurt anyone or lead anyone on. The people he slept with knew, straight up, what everything was about and therefore (hopefully) didn't get hurt by it. "I thought the point was a night of fun and dancing that might, if we're lucky, lead to after hours activities?" He winked slyly at Saph.
”It’s more fun to be someone else sometimes, sides no one really believes me when I tell them my real job anyways.”
Juka arched an eyebrow in curiosity at Sam. He hadn't seem inclined to go into detail about how he lost his eye and Juka wasn't certain that he would want to go into detail about his job either so he didn't ask directly. Still, curiosity was curisity and he had to at least attemp to make his interest known. Who really needed secrets anyway? Maybe one day he would learn to read minds (which is said to be related to telekinetic powers anyway, which his bubbles sort of were, weren't they?) and then he woudldn't have to rely on people actually telling him what he wanted to know. Ah, that would be the life. Then again, there wouldn't really be much challenge in just simply knowing.
”To a night of epicness with my two new wingmen!”
Juka lifted his own glass and clinked it with Sam's. "To a night of epicness," he agreed, taking a liberal drink.
I've decided to npc all of Juka's band mates since there didn't seem to be too much interest on that count. However, I have just started the thread for his first official New York City performance and would love for everyone to come see him. Come watch Juka perform!
The show has been promoted through postering all around the city as well as through the various social networking sites. Its known that the headliner is an all-mutant band.
Juka stood in the doorway of the dressing room watching the opening band finish their final song. The opener was a band by the name of Rememberance and they were good, no question about it. They would be a hard act to follow but Juka was ready for it, had never been more ready in his life. It had been months since his last performance at the side of his fellow band mates in Ukime. He had still been back in Japan at that time and it had been a memorable night. He wondered, briefly, where they were now and if they had continued on without him. He hoped so. Tonight, however, wasn't going to be about Ukime at all; Ukime was his fondly remembered past. Tonight was about the beginning of a new chapter in his life and a new era of music with his new band Light in Darkness. For the past few months he had been gathering up band mates, writing music and preparing for this night and finally it was here.
Juka could admit, if only to himself, that he felt some nerves and it had been a while since he had felt nervous on stage. Nothing he couldn't get over of course, but it was such an important night. This was the night that he would either make his reputation as a new force within the local New York City music scene or fade into mediocrity and mediocrity was simply not an options. Besides, he knew that there were going to be several people he knew in the crowd tonight and he dearly wanted to impress them all. Jewel, for one, had never before seen him perform having never visited him in Tokyo. He wanted to show the world that he was someone special. The stage was his home and even after his long vacation away from it, he still felt that reality keenly. Oh, what a welcome home party it would be.
Juka glanced over towards Tsune, the basist for his band and the only female member. She was an arctic fox mutant, beautiful in her way with pure white fur covering her entire body, cute perky fox-like ears, little claws on her fingers and a bushy white tail. His eyes almost glowed his his anticipation and he could see the same sense of anticipation in her. His entire band were mutants, each one of them skilled at their respective instruments and each one of them prepared to put on the best show they were able.
Rememberance played their final chord and Juka's anticipation went up one more notch, if that was even possible. All that was left now was to wait for their set to be taken down and Light in Darkness' set to be put on. It wouldn't be long now before all 5 of them were on stage where they belonged.
"Orange juice would be fine," Juka answered the blond. Despite the fact that he liked to party and have a good time, he honestly wasn't much of a drinker and when he did drink he preferred his drinks to be sweet and fruity. Beer was not exactly his idea of an ideal drink at all.
"So I notice you're pretty into fashion. When did you start getting so interested?"
"It started back in Japan," Juka answered. He could tell that Deirdre was tired and honestly wanted to be able to offer to help her with that. He knew that he could, with his bubble, but after the last "experiement" of that nature he'd done and how badly it turned out he didn't want to risk it. Wiggly hair was one thing, he couldn't imagine what might go wrong with a scorpion tail.
"I got adopted into the visual kei band Ukime. Since then music and fashion have been my two passions in life. I love making people smile and I love the attention. Something tells me you can appreciate attention." Juka smiled and winked. He was rarely wrong when it came to reading people, even first impressions.
Juka could tell that the shawl made Andrea happy (even after the horrible thing he had accidentally done to her hair) and that in turn made him happy. There really wasn't anything more to want out of life aside from making pretty ladies smile and mean that smile. Although Andrea was a bit on the unusual side, Juka did find her pretty in her own unique way. He was coming to realize that he, perhaps, had a thing for visible mutants. First there was his red Prince Venus, the only one he had actual experience with, but as time went on he found he was more and more drawn to those who didnt' look like your average every day human. The hair was something to get used to of course, but even that was oddly compelling in a lightly creepy sort of way.
"Well... I do have two places in mind. There is a musical playing tonight that I was interested... and the Art museum is a place I haven't been to yet... But! I refuse to let you pay for my ticket. You've been so caring already that I would feel like I was taking advantage of your kindness."
"Art museum it is," Juka agreed, beaming. "And if you must insist on payin for your own ticket then I suppose I will have to allow you to do so, much to the chagrin of my naturally chivalrous nature." He winked to let her know that he wasn't really being serious, although he had a suspicioun that money probebly meant less to him than it did to her.
"Only, this time I really think you ought to take the lead. You see, as someone who generally floats above the city when travelling, I get lost easily when I'm not floating." Juka smiled sheepishly. Maybe he ought to learn more about navigating from the ground level rather than from the air.
Juka thought it was cute how Jewel insisted upon wearing some proper clothing for their float over the city. Of course it was true that his bubble was mostly see through, but at this time of night and considering how high they would be floating, no one would be able to see anything anyway. Well, unless they had some amzing mutant vision or something, of course. But he still waited patiently for her to return.
Juka stepped outside into the brisk spring night. "Ready?" he asked, taking her hand and stepping close to her. A moment later he bubbled them both and they were off, flating far above the inhabitants of New York. He was sure not to do any fantastic tricks with his bubble (he was learning where appropriate limits were) but he decided to make the trip more leisurely than it had to be. After all, it wasn't far to go and it was beautiful at this time of night.
Juka wasn't entirely sure that he got the whole concept of making up an elaborate story to get with a girl. He blinked, in some confusion, at Saph when he brought up the whole archeologist idea dn then blinked at Sam. Archeologist? What did that have to do with hooking up with someone? One person got with another person because they wanted to get together for a good time, it didn't have to be any more complicated than that did it? Plus, it struck Juka as kind of dishonest to come up with some sort of elaborate backstory anyway. Of course he regularly got with people for one night stands or brief flings (though admitedly not as much since he got to New York) but the girl or guy in question always knew that that was the intent anyway. Fun was fun but lying was wrong.
Then Sam started talking about being a treasure hunter and Juka being a fashion designer and his confusion got to be even worse? "But...why would I be a fashion designer? I can just tell them I'm a muscision," which was true and the posters around the city promoting the debut of his new band would confirm it "and they'll love me. Why would I lie about it?" That had been his experience. He was gorgeous which helped of course, but men and women alike couldnt' get enough of rock stars, even if "star" was a bit of an exageration but it didn't really matter. He had never had to lie to get with anyone and didn't intend now. It wasn't needed but, more importantly, it was dishonest and immoral. Honesty was the best policy, or so his mother used to tell him. Of course, she also told him not to wear dresses so maybe her advice wasn't the best.
Juka's first reaction upon Sam stating that he wanted the dark haired woman he had his eyes on was negative and maybe a little competitive. But then he mentioned that Juka could have both of the blonds and, while outwardly they didn't strike him as much as the brunette, two instead of one did have its advantages. Besides, one couldnt' always judge someone by their cover so it might work out for the best anyway. "Deal," he agreed magnimoniously. Because, of course, he was being imminently generous in the agreement since obviously Sam wasn't anywhere in his league. Treasure hunting archeologist or not.
“I’m from out west. Wyoming, remember? Anyway, it’s not that amazing. There’s a lot of nature, if that’s the kind of things you like. There are geysers out there and they can be quite amazing. Although they do stink and smell like rotten eggs. There’s an abundance of them in Yellowstone National Park. Needless to say, I didn’t visit that park very often.”
Apparently Juka's sense of geography left a little something to be desired. Well, he had an excuse didn't he? After all, he was Japanese and hadn't spent his entire life in the US. "Parks aren't really my thing," Juka admitted with a chuckle. "I'm more of a people party music performance type person. Just isn't much of interest at a park."
As Juka followed Deirdra up the stairs to her appartment he had to supress a grin as she tripped over her own heels. It was almost an art to walk in high heels, an art that Juka had become master of, out of necessity. After all, if it was difficult to walk in heels just imagine how difficult it was to dance and perform in them and when Juka Miami put on a performance he gave his fans their every penny's worth.
“Come in, come in. You want anything? A drink? Or..I don’t know.”
"Anything is fine," Juka answered. Suddenly he felt a little awkward, something that was a bit of an unusual experience for him. He was used to being in stranger's appartments, of course, but there was something about this Deirdre that he wasn't too sure about. Oh well, no turning back now. At the very least he had to remain polite, stay for a drink and see where things went.
"A puppy? Why, that's a wonderful idea!" Juka was not so much a dog person, or a puppy person for that matter; they tended to not get along so well with his precious kitties, but he had nothing against puppies and as a general policy anything that was cute and fuzzy was good by him. And puppies most certainly fit into the cute and fuzzy category. "You must promise to let me meet him or her when you get him."
"Tell you what. I'll go visit Jolteon and Ninetails, if you fly me there."
"You know you only have to ask once, my precious one. Its particularly beautiful floating at night." Juka stood up and walked to the door, beckaning Jewel to follow. His bubble might be amazing and awesome but he still wasn't able to float through walls and therefore they needed to make their way outside before they could have an amazing Juka bubble ride.
