Derek smiled sweetly at Xavia. He was waiting on her to continue when Delilah ran over with what looked to be a stick. Squinting, he saw that it was a pregnancy test. Derek's heart dropped. Was she...? No, maybe she was just making sure because her period was late. That happened to females sometimes. Right?
By the paleness of her face and the way she moved, he knew. Derek's eyes were large, but he didn't say anything. She was obviously either in mourning or just shocked. After he finished, he turned to look at her.
"...How am I? Jesus Christ," Derek whispered, "you're pregnant?!" he lightly hit her shoulder. "Fam, you're...right now, my life doesn't matter." He stood up from the stool and started to make her some tea. "How did it happen?"

Derek was already half way done with his bowl when he heard Delilah get up and run toward her grandmother. He knew that Xavia was sure to quickly follow behind.
"Hey, rose flower. How are you?" He asked, smiling brightly at her. Xavia had been sick and was out the entire week of school. Of course Kendra and himself proudly kept the place going.
Derek could tell that she was slowly recovering from being under the weather. "I'm happy to see you too. How are you feeling? I brought cookies over for Delilah when she finishes washing her hands." He smiled warmly at her. "...I'm glad you're finally gettin' some sleep, Xavia." He scooped a spoonful of soup into his mouth and swallowed. "Your mother is a saint."

Derek nodded his head. "I know, I know," he bit his lip, "I just want to help. Be apart of something bigger than myself." He shrugged his shoulders before glancing down at his shoes, then back up at Artair.
"About two weeks. I really love it there. I keep myself busy and participate in projects and challenges that will increase my overall being." With the help of Xavia, his friends, and Jorge, Derek was really growing there. He felt like a apple seed that was starting to blossom. The Mansion was a strong and sturdy foundation. Period.
He listened to the story that Artair was telling of how he got involved with the Haven. It was something to admire. To Derek, the Haven simply seemed like good hearted people who fought injustices with super good looks. But more so good hearted people. And good looks.
"That's inspiring. I honestly want to do that. To stop crimes like that. No one should feel afraid of being who they are." That was coming from a place of hurt. He quickly regain his composure. "Hm...so now what? Is the training session over?"

"Oh, well, that's definitely good." Derek continued to examine Amber's raptor body. It was certainly designed to take down prey much larger than themselves. God, what Derek wouldn't give to watch one of these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat.
"Mm, have you been to the Smithsonian Museum yet? They have dinosaur fossils there. Maybe going there and being able to touch the exhibits there will allow you to add more dinosaurs to your register." Derek commented before moving back to the front of her.
"I bet those teeth of yours could slice through anything."

"You have a point there." Derek nodded his head. If he wanted to become a superhero he should stick with his original idea of being an X-Men. Though, that was no longer what he wanted. He wanted to change things. Change the way people thought and do some good along the way. At Haven, he could see himself doing just that. TV wasn't for everyone and he felt that Artair, along with the other Haven members probably didn't have time to with being a very productive organization.
The training went better than that Derek initially thought. Panting a bit, he stood up from his form and rolled his shoulders back. "Thank you, Artair." He nodded his head at his fellow mutant and moved his staff to his left hand. "Being at the Mansion has helped me a bit." He added with a grin.
"If you don't mind me asking, what attracted you to the Haven?"

When Xavia's mother opened the door, Derek smiled. He followed her instruction to be quiet and walked into the house. He mouthed a thank you before turning his head to look at Xavia and Delilah cuddled up on the couch. He wanted to aww, but decided against it.
"You didn't have to do that." Derek whispered to her. Now he knew where Xavia got her generosity from. "Thank you, though." He knew from living in the south and being a poor college student that you never turn down free food.
He sat down at the barstool and placed the basket of tasty cookies on the table and out of the way. Derek looked up at her and smiled kindly. "Thank you, Mama." There was a warmness in his heart that spread to the rest of his body. Picking up his spoon, he dipped it into the soup. Without hesitation, Derek tasted it.
An explosion of flavor conquered his tastebuds. The taste of authentic, home cooking was almost overwhelming. Without much words he continued to eat the soup.

A lot has been happening over the course of a week for Derek. Working with Xavia has been a real pleasure and running into one of her other assistants, Kendra aka Daydream, has been even better. He was preparing to move out of the Mansion, but promised himself that he wouldn't completely leave the the extraordinary institute. Derek has made too many friends and connections there that he wanted to keep strong like Allegra, Kendra, and a few others that he was getting along with.
Derek had called Xavia ahead of time that he was coming over with a special treat for Delilah and honestly, he couldn't wait to see the look on the little sprout's face when she saw the basket of freshly baked double chocolate chip cookies.
After paying and getting out of the taxi, Derek made his way to the front door and rang the doorbell. They both had a lot to talk about.

Derek smiled warmly at Richard, "thank you," he nodded his head at his -hopefully- apartment mate. When he mentioned a "beautiful living gargoyle",, only one person came to mind. "Are you talkin' about Gina? I know Gina! Here and I talked earlier today about this place!" That made Derek even more excited at the prospect of moving in. This day couldn't get any better.
That is until the zoo was closed which put a stunt in Richard and his plan to see the animals. Luckily Richard came up with a suggestion. When he offered going to the Central, Derek was even more excited.
"Sure! Yeah, let's do that!" Derek had plan on going there anyway.
Derek rerouted his phone to lead them to Central Park. The walk wasn't too bad since it was filled with small talk about New York City as a whole and living here.
After fifteen minutes, Derek and Richard came to one of the entrances to the park.
"Still ready for that adventure?" He asked with a grin on his face. "Are there any trails that you've been on?"

Derek wanted to argue with Leon, but knew that it would be in vain. Leon saw himself as a monster and nothing more than a beast that should be held in a cell for everyone else's own protection. Derek didn't know how that felt, but he could see the pain in those cyan colored eyes. With a sigh, Derek put his hands up and took several steps back. Leon needed his space right now and more importantly, he needed Derek to listen.
"Okay, okay," his voice was quiet, "I'm listenin' to you. I'm not going to stab myself with your quills and I'm not gonna help if you don't want it." What Derek did do was sit down. He wasn't going to move until Leon was ready and if that meant staying there all night and "failing" the challenge.
"Even the sides of the quills are dangerous?"

Derek laughed along with Artair. "Yeah, no. I'm not the singer. Well, I do a little, but not enough to summon a flock of birds or anything like that." He shrugged his shoulders with a grin on his face. "If anything, the animals would run in the opposite direction."
"Gotcha. I'll remember everything." Or at least he'd hope so. He did have a notepad and pen in his duffle bag, but decided not to waste time with running to get it, jot down the things that Artair said, then running back in his place after putting the writing material back. If Derek wanted to succeed here, somethings will just have to be committed to memory.
Derek took the staff from Artair, "thank you," then moved it from one hand to the other. "I feel like I'm in the first season of some superhero show on Binge." He grinned. Derek spun his staff around in his right hand. "Like, uh, that show Herc with the guy with super strength. Have you seen it?"
