The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

At the moment his last question reached his own ears, the little goblin was beaten by an irrefutable certainty, what he had spoken with such unconcern contained a startling truth. That creature could die if for some reason were to fall from that height. The fear forced him to withdraw his hand at once to deposit them on the side of his body. The simple task of remaining in that position was extremely complicated and boring, especially when all he wanted to do was to explore everything, but still he managed to hold still, terrified by the mental image of dropping the statue by accident . He could almost imagine himself trying to catch it before the statue hit the ground, to explode into thousands of pieces.
Fortunately for Guglin who was struggling with the desire to touch the statue one more time, the man gave him something new to think about when he replied his first question. Her name was very strange and very difficult to pronounce, but despite the peculiarities it had a certain charm that reminded him of chicken and chocolate pudding mixed together. Delighted to have a distraction, the little goblin commented on the difficulty of the name "Hard name." Then he focused his attention again on the human, forgetting the statue and the solid words he desired to touch. While still staring at the magician, Guglin remembered that his name was also complicated, so he calmly pronounced his displeasure. "Me like simple."
As soon as the little goblin pronounced his name, the man smiled with satisfaction and then began to nod. It was then that the man responded with a funny phrase that Guglin never heard before; at least not while referring to him. Probably it was just another of those presentation customs, since humans were always presenting themselves to each other and putting names to themselves and even others things, so he was sure the man was using one of those many phrases, yet the little goblin could not help a small chuckle. "Why honored?" The creature asked as he tilted his head slightly as a curious puppy.
Finally the magician answered his last question generating mixed feelings in the little green monster. Fist relief since he was sure he could not break the petrified creature, as metal was one of the hardest things to break... yet he also felt worse for those people because the spell on them seemed so strong and hard to dispel. While he was still contemplating the possibilities of having metal for skin, he came up with a great idea that he did not hesitate to share. "Have friends?" He asked excitedly. And without waiting for an answer, he continued exposing her idea. "Ask them help." Of course the little goblin was so excited by the idea that he did not consider the possibility that the mage could have no friends... or maybe they were not magicians.

((OOC: Sorry for the LOOOONG wait! I finally managed to dredge up a little Akshay muse!))
>> "Hard name…Me like simple."
Akshay nodded. Of course the creature would. Most goblin-speech was just simplied grunts, growls, vowels, etc. Human speech would be difficult for them. But he had to be curious about that. The name he had given was purely goblin so why would he have trouble pronouncing it? Hmm, maybe Akshay just didn’t pronounce it correctly. His goblin-speech was so absolutely rusty.
>> "Why honored?"
The little goblin had a right to wonder. After all, he was probably separated from most human customs that he would have to ask the simple questions. Why should Akshay be honored to meet him? Well, he couldn’t really tell him the truth could him? That he had always wanted to meet a real life goblin and yet had never had the opportunity until right now. No, he still had a part to play, he needed to be the knowledgeable wizard and so he couldn’t fawn over the little creature.
Thankfully, before he could think up a painfully obvious lie, Akshay stood back and watched as the creature regarded the female goblin more closely. It was obvious that he wished for “his kind” to be free from this “spell”. It was to the point that Akshay actually felt a little sorry for the creature. All alone in New York, or so he thought. He really shouldn’t be lying to him but the last thing he wanted was an angry goblin running rampant in his shop.
Nice big hole your digging yourself in, Akshay. Dumb***…
>> "Have friends? Ask them help."
And the spider web of lies shall continue.
“Oh, uh, I’d really love to. I would,” Akshay nodded. “But my friends are not wizards like me. They don’t know magic. And, those that do, well, they don’t have the power to free them. Not until I do more research anyways.” He looked solemnly at the creatures in his case, as if they were old friends he would never see walking and talking again. “But, rest assured, they are safe here. No one bothers them, no one can steal them,” he assured Guglin. “I can keep them safe until they can be free. And, you know, if you wanted, you can visit them whenever you like.”
Despite his proposal was very simple, Guglin was very sure that it was going to work. In his mind, if a magician was able to create words out of nowhere, a bunch of them would be able to transform metal into flesh easily... even when both feats had so little in common. But once again, the wizard denied that possibility by tagging it as "impossible".
His smile full of hope vanished instantly, to give way to an awkward grimace of disappointment but even then, the goblin was not going to give up and let them suffer forever in that uncomfortable statue form... not even when he could not think of another thing to try, so he remained silent while listening to his explanation. Maybe the wizard could inspire him with his speech.
"Research..." repeated the goblin with curiosity. Which item of that huge cave was his research? The goblin repeated the question mentally while his eyes searched each corner of the store. Everything he saw was very interesting but it was almost impossible to distinguish any huge and complicated book that could contain his spells and research. Maybe he was a more modern wizard and his knowledge was not stored in books... maybe it was not hide in a big book but several small ones like the colorful magazines he noticed before.
When he was unable to contain his curiosity anymore, the little monster advanced with steady steps to the center of the large room where he saw what seemed to be books with many colors. "Your research?" The creature asked while pointing at the comics with his green index finger.
Like everything else in that well lit cave, the books seemed to be very strange. In the past his human father had taught him things using big books with hard covers that resembled steel and were as heavy as stones, above all that these books contained letters as small as ants that were sometimes accompanied by small photos... Instead what he saw there was a completely different breed of books. These were small, compact, lightweight and the words appeared to be very large and colorful with large drawings that illustrated what was written in them... Would it be impolite to climb the furniture and take one?
While he was still trying to find an easy way to climb up there, the magician finished his sentence with something very interesting, Guglin responded immediately with a new smile on his lips. "Me will visit." He affirmed with joy as he imagined his next visit. Maybe he could hunt some rats for them to eat together.

>> "Research... Your research?"
Akshay tilted his head. He had hoped that he had given the small goblin enough information so that he would finally trust him to leave the statues alone. Akshay was sad that he had lied so much to the little goblin but at the same time he knew that he really had no other choice. The creature was lost in this world and if he knew that there the wordsmith was little more than a comic shop owner and a goof, well, he may want to leave and never return!
Of course he couldn’t have that.
He looked up, though, at his comics that Gugin seemed so interested in. Obviously he was confusing the books of entertainment for something that he would able to glean knowledge from. Akshay hated to burst his bubble and tell the little creature that he was wrong, so Akshay simply nodded to go along with the idea.
>> "Me will visit."
To this, of course he smiled! Akshay had managed to get a little goblin to take interest in his and continue to visit him after this encounter! He knew that such a promise was rare among goblin-kind, since they tended to be more scavengers and detested hanging around humans for too long. But, this little one definitely seemed like he wanted to come back
And…was that a smile? Akshay smiled back in response! This was awesome news!
He nodded as he plucked out one of his “research” books and handed it down to the goblin to thumb through if he so chose. It was a rather basic comic, laminated cover, brightly colored heroes, big blocky letters, filled with the stories of heroism. Obviously it had nothing to do with magic but maybe Guglin would find it interesting.
“I’m glad you will come back,” Akshay grinned wide with joy. He thought a moment before he snapped his fingers. “OH! How’s about I give you a gift? Just, ugh wait right there!”
Akshay dashed into the backroom. He figured that the best way that he could win and keep the goblin’s friendship was to prove that he was trustworthy by offering him a present. Akshay doubted that Guglin would be able to return to his own world. If he had to go out into the world again, it would probably be best if he could defend himself. By offering him protection, Akshay would prove his friendship.
After digging through one his chests in his back room, Akshay beamed once he found what he was looking for. Returning to the room in which he left Guglin, he grinned as he slowly walked up, knelt down near the creature and held out a replica sword and sheath from one of his favorite movies. It really was made out of steel and was a pretty good reproduction. But Akshay felt good parting with it, knowing it would help his goblin friend (since it was exactly his size!!).
“Here, Guglin. The world can be dangerous. This can keep you safe.”
The little goblin was greatly relieved with the confirmation that those books were containing his complicated investigations, since these books were scattered in every corner of that gigantic cave and that meant that his research was serious. There were so many copies of these colorful books that Guglin was certain that no one could read them all twice. Clearly the magician had developed some spell to control the flow of time, because Akshay did not look old enough to have written all those books. It never occurred to the little green monster that the human could have been helped by others, since the work of a magician seemed to be complicated and extremely secret.
His curiosity grew exponential as he watched the different covers that showed men with swords, wizards with long robes and fantastic creatures he had never seen. Fortunately before he could decide to climb to the top of that cabinet, the magician handed him one of the volumes that locked his extensive research. Containing his curiosity with great difficulty, the little goblin started to turn the pages carefully while trying to show some respect for that sources of knowledge. Each page was divided into small rectangles that enclosed pictures of what Guglin believed to be an ancient civilization.
The wizard's voice reminded him that he was still in his cave, and not in the green fields pictured in these drawing but before Guglin could ask any questions regarding the gift or the content of those printed words, the magician disappeared leaving Guglin alone with the book. The actions inside the small rectangles caught his attention one more time, telling him a story that he could not fully understand since he could not decipher the meaning of all those words. Maybe in his next visit he could ask the wizard to teach him how to read those strange runes...
Soon the magician was back from the depths of his lair; he knelt in front of Guglin and extended the promised gift with her pale human hands. This time the little goblin did not achieve to control his curiosity, so he hastened to take the offering from the human. Once in his hands, he pulled out of the delicate leather sheet to find a beautiful carved sword that was at least three times bigger than the knife he normally used to hunt. Despite its size, the weapon had the right size and weight for him. In complete silence, the little goblin returned the sword to its sheath as if it were a religious ceremony and then he carefully deposited it on the carpet to launch himself toward the wizard in a friendly tackle hug. "Thanks!" Guglin exclaimed as he squeezed the mage as hard as he could with a huge smile on his lips.

Benevolently, Akshay offered the sword to Guglin and awaited the goblin’s response. Maybe it was not the smartest idea to just hand over a weapon to a little, rogue creature like this, but Akshay knew that the poor goblin probably needed a friend. Being alone in the wide world of New York could be scary, especially for someone of Guglin’s stature. And though the sword he offered was little more than a replica paperweight, it should still give the little goblin a good weapon to help defend him from what could be an unfair and opportunistic world.
In silence he waited to see the goblin’s reaction. Would he approve? Maybe he had his own cache of weapons here in New York? But if that were so, why was he not carrying any of them when he found him?
He was just in the middle of another thought when he looked over to see Guglin now setting the sword down. For a second Akshay feared that maybe the little goblin was going to reject the gift but before he knew it, the saw the goblin launch himself. Akshay would has squeaked and screamed in fear but he quickly realized that he was not being attacked.
Well…unless he was being attacked with hugs!
>> "Thanks!"
It actually warmed Akshay’s heart to know that he made the little creature’s day. Maybe Guglin would seem him as a valued friend now until he found his way back into his own world? Akshay would be only to fulfill such a role.
Grinning as the creature hugged him, Akshay gently reached around and patted the goblin’s back.
“You’re welcome, Guglin,” he said. “Hey, if you ever need help while you’re out in the world, you can always come here. I’ll do my best to help you out whenever I can. Deal?”
He could not remember the last time he had received a gift or the last time he felt the urge to hug someone but the little goblin was sure he will remember that day for a very long time. It was not only the cool looking sword or the frozen creatures; there was something in his house that filled Guglin with curiosity and invited him to return. Maybe it had something to do with the mountains of colorful books or the fact that he had found something friendly enough to forgive him for the delicious food he stole. The circumstances of their meeting were strange but in the end everything resulted very well for both of them.
Guglin nodded energetically in response to his first question. Having a new ally made him feel confident and safe even when he never felt unsafe before… it was weird to be counting on someone after so much time of being by himself but it was something he was glad to be able to experience once more. Most important was the fact that he had a new friend. He extended his green hand toward the human and once he grabbed it, he confirmed the pact with a cheerful “Deal.”
