The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>> "A goddess is allowed to love whoever she chooses to love. But love has nothing to do with marriage. It is a desire of the heart and the soul. Marriage is a lasting arragement between two people."
The world was a weird place when the marriage traditions Europe outgrew centuries ago were still not only alive but thriving in India. She spoke as the self-imposed ultimate authority on marriage, but she did not sound quite so condescending the second time.
Nate did his best not to be annoyed, because she was from a different world, and as much as he did not agree, it would be culturally intolerant to bash her beliefs. He spoke more politely, willing to continue the dialogue they so tenuously opened. "With all due respect, Mahadevi, I disagree. Personally, if I ever get married," the thought still felt like an oddly-shaped fit to him, "I would like to be able to spend my life with someone my heart truly desires."
The painting was coming along nicely; one of his better works, despite the distractions. He would be finished soon, so hopefully the conversation would follow suit, but until then; "Wouldn't not loving a spouse make people more likely to cheat?" If he was stuck with someone he had no interest in instead of Quin, would the temptation of leaving not be overwhelming?

She thought about that for a moment. It was not like the idea was completely unknown to her. She had thought about things like that quite often; she was still a woman, after all, even if one that was used to men only saying yes to any wish of hers. Then again.
"No one would cheat on a goddess" she noted, just for good measure "and only a god can spend an eternity of a lifetime with one. Mortals make great lovers, though. Their love is different from ours."

If Nate did not know any better, he would think Mahadevi might have been taking his words to heart. In the end, she returned to her goddess defense. There was no doubt in her mind that her life was eternal, even if it meant being reincarnated. Nate was still not going to see divine when mutant was right under his nose, but he was impressed by her conviction.
Nate finished the last touches on Mahadevi's body (in the painting, of course.) "Well, no offense to you holy beings, but I think I'm fine sticking with my silly little mortal love."
Mahadevi was finished, barring a few shading refinements. "And you are finally... free to... get up."

>>"Well, no offense to you holy beings, but I think I'm fine sticking with my silly little mortal love. And you are finally... free to... get up."
Even the Goddess caught the tone of his voice this time.
"I did not mean to offend you" she said more gently, getting up and stretching her arms "Love is a wonderful, wonderful thing, a gift from the gods. Marriage, however, comes from man, and it shall be different in every corner of the world. But I am glad people can find love even in the darkness of distrust and hate."
That, of course, being the life of a mutant in America.
>> "I did not mean to offend you. Love is a wonderful, wonderful thing, a gift from the gods. Marriage, however, comes from man, and it shall be different in every corner of the world. But I am glad people can find love even in the darkness of distrust and hate."
Considering how frustratingly belittling Mahadevi had proven she could be, her last comment was surprisingly understanding and tolerant. He had to also understand that marriage was very different depending on where someone might be in the world. He was happy to be able to choose his own partner, but there were plenty of instances where arranged marriages worked out. He took the experience as humbling.
”You know, I couldn’t agree more, Mahadevi.” He really wished he could shorten her name, but there was no question in his mind that calling her “Maha” would be seen as disrespectful and void his paycheck.
He stepped back from the canvas and gestured toward it. ”Would you like to see how it came out, your holiness?”
Her opinion on love and marriage seemed to please the painter. That amused the Goddess to the extent of making her smile. Mortals could be so prideful sometimes, they could have put the gods to shame.
>>”Would you like to see how it came out, your holiness?”
"Indeed" she nodded, rising from her pillows and walking over to look at the canvas. She hoped the painter did a good job. For his own sake.
The goddess came over to where his canvas was set up, and he turned the now-drying painting to face her so she could pass her judgment. For his wallet's sake, he hoped she deemed his work up to par.
"Here you go, goddess." He held out his hand, presenting what he honestly felt was one of his better pieces. "It was my intention to capture the decadence and nobility of a higher being, while also bringing to life the passion and beauty of woman personified." Hopefully Mahadevi appreciated looking at her own beauty and believed Nate succeeded in his goals.
