Once Shane had been successfully extracted from the car, Sam took the time to look around. He had been expecting bright lights and crisp clean buildings instead he got gloom and broken down warehouses. But he held his tongue; it was not his place to question things, not when he had been the one calling for help in the middle of the night.
So he waited for Celeste to climb out and make the necessary arrangements, he just concentrated on keeping Shane upright. Which was proving slightly harder than it had been earlier… had the other mutant always felt so spindly? He tried to ignore the strange feeling and instead focused on the fact that his unfortunate companion would soon be someone else’s problem.
Celeste had a brief conversation with a man in a white coat, which Sam assumed was the doctor she had called earlier, before the man made a bee line for them. The doctor inclined his head in greeting before urging Sam to escort the patient inside. The illusion mutant took note of the fact that the doctor did not volunteer to help him half carry Shane inside.
Luckily the side door to the “clinic” was not far and they were soon inside, where they were greeted by the lights and cleanliness Sam had been expecting to see on the outside. Well the inside was the bit that mattered and there was a fresh made bed waiting for Shane. So Sam helped him the last few steps and let the other man sit down.
“Better than a dark alley don’t you think.”
