Character
Personality: Sarah loves learning new things. Even before her mutation manifested, she always had a book in hand and eagerly listened during class. Her thirst for knowledge includes information people would prefer not to be known, but while she may know these bits and pieces, she rarely uses the information unless necessary. Having grown up with a brother who really couldn't care less about his bookworm sister, Sarah learned how to be vindictive and how to get her way without getting into trouble. She also learned early on how to entertain herself without 'being a bother' as her brother put it. Able to hide like any wallflower can, she found she liked being able to spy on people without actually hiding. She spends a lot of time alone and doesn't always understand people as well as other subjects, but she tries. Sarah never really told anyone of her mutation, as when she first figured it out she didn't think much of it. Knowing how much a secret can destroy a person, she has kept this to herself. Not speaking of it to family or friends. Though she does keep track of mutant laws. Though she keeps secrets and is introverted, Sarah has a close-knit group of friends and has weekly phone calls with her mother. Not big on parties, she tends to stay away from crowds, but she does on occasion as she has learned to push her own limits. Hobbies/ Interests: Watching it rain, reading (not by touch), knowing secrets, learning history Job or part time job and description: Sarah is the secretary for Hadden's Havens COO (while reporting said COO's actions to the big boss) Fears/ phobias/ concerns: Fears spiders, no matter how big or small; not knowing something when it counts Special talents:
Morality Good/ bad/ neutral/ other: Neutral mostly. The beliefs she was raised with lean more towards 'lawful good' but Sarah's figured out that the law isn't always right and sometimes it's a good idea to have a little something to convince people to help her out.
Mutations
Learning via "Osmosis" Mutation Description Sarah can learn through touch. It must be ink on paper for her to do so, but by holding a book or letter, she can absorb the knowledge of the object and recall the information perfectly. She uses this is a variety of ways, such as: reading her mail without opening letters, helping her way through school, and learning some less-than-appreciated secrets. She does have to use her ability actively; it isn't passive. In order for her perfect recall to work, Sarah has to essentially sort the information in her mind's eye. This allows her to have a very organized mind which allows her to notice telepathic intrusions. Though this really only works for active telepathic abilities.
Strengths:
- She can 'read' about 30 standard size pages a minute (A4 paper) - which averages around 380 words per minute
- She has perfect recall of the information she learns through her mutation
- Awareness of telepathic intrusions
- Knowledge is power
Weaknesses and Limitations:
- She can't read more than 900 pages before needing to stop and 'sort' the information - which would be 30 minutes of continuous use
- If she goes over this amount, she begins to get a headache. Which intensifies with each new page 'read'
- As her mutation only really works with paper (and paper like things), in this technological time, she sometimes has to do things the hard way
- While there are books on psychology and social dynamics, she has to work at understanding how interactions affect different situations (i.e. she's awkward)
Specifically Known Information:
- All mutant based laws
- Basic college level Psychology and Sociology
- The Endangered Species list
- Most 'classic' literature
- A lot of historical texts
Fighting Style
(Unchanged)
History Of Your Character Sarah grew up in the city of Seattle, Washington with her parents and older brother. Her brother was often in the local gym learning how to fight, while her parents both worked. Sarah was often spending her time alone with a book, which would be a 50/50 chance at being fiction or non-fiction. When her family spent time together, they usually went camping. Nature became Sarah's reminder of her family and the times they really were a family. Besides the camping trips, Sarah spent time with her family doing different activities. One of her favorite bonding activities was when her brother taught her how to fight, even though he may not have wanted to in the beginning.
Small, quiet, and often thought of as too into her books to pay attention, little Sarah Jackson learned early on that pretending to read while actively listened let her learn quite a bit about the people around her. Knowing certain things and implying she would tell their parents was one of her favorite ways to get her brother to spend time with her.
Sarah went through school with few friends and relatively good grades. While going through high school, a running joke of her biology teacher was 'learn through osmosis.' Somewhere in her seventeenth year, this joke became more than a joke for her. After having rested her head on a maths book and wished she could 'absorb the information' her mutation activated. It was weak at the time, able to read 1 page a minute for a total of 10 minutes at a time.
It took a lot of trial and error to figure out how her ability worked, but by the time she graduated high school she could activate her ability on command. She had also increased her limits to 10 pages a minute for a total of 15 minutes. Already having a love for books and learning, Sarah planned to go to school to become a librarian. She was accepted to a program in New York, and took the opportunity to travel and learn.
It took her a total of six years before she completed her masters degree. By this point she could now read 20 pages for 30 minutes total. Now certified and already having six years of NYC living under her belt, Sarah applied and received a job working at the New York Public Library. She has spent the past four years working, learning, and increasing her ability when she could.
