The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Aw man, he was so excited. Quin shook her head very slightly as she continued to try and wrap her head around this whole thing. How were these reversions even possible? She stopped that line of thought right there. In a city full of mutants, anything was possible. The real question was, who had caused all of this, and how were they going to fix it.
As to Nate's semi rhetorical questions, Quin decided to give him information where she could. After all, he'd remember this when he was an adult again, and she wanted to be sure he knew she'd helped in any way should could...despite what she'd learned.
"I'm not entirely sure where you picked it up." Quin said, frowning slightly at yet another thing she wasn't sure about. She and Nate had been dating for what seemed like forever...and she knew some about his....
Oh. Maybe that was it? Maybe he'd changed his name after his rough childhood? They'd spoken briefly about all that...she stopped herself again. Not the time.
As to New York. "And yup. You love New York." she said as they made their way towards the precinct.
He'd been asking a lot of questions, Quin decided maybe it was her turn.
"Tell me about you..." she said, trying to gain some perspective on Nate's past. "What do you want to be right now?"
What did he want to be when he grew up? It felt like the sort of question he would be asked in classes, but he understood that Quin probably wanted to get to know the him before he was Nate, and for that, he could not blame her. "Well, I like books... maybe an author? Though being a police officer would be awesome. Or maybe a spy!" He thought about the question for another moment, but the truth was, "I don't really know yet. I'm twelve." He chuckled; what twelve year-old knew what he wanted to be when he grew up. (Well, besides twelve year-olds who were told what they would become in their own future.)
Stephen wanted to know more about Quin too, and for all he knew, when he grew back up, maybe he would know new things. "What about you? Did you always want to be a policewoman? And did you always live in New York?" She did not have any noticeable accent, so there was no way of knowing where she might have grown up.

That...was a fair enough answer for a twelve year old to give on the subject of future career prospects. Quin chuckled at the answers he'd given. A spy or police officer...it was funny how things turned out, she decided, going with amused over anything else.
It was her turn to answer questions now, and she smiled at how earnest the kid in the seat next to her was. He wanted to learn things back. Some of the questions were the same, but some were different too, things that she was pretty sure Nate had never asked.
"I don't know. At one point I might have wanted to be a teacher like my parents, but I grew out of that really quickly. I've been playing at being a cop since I was young enough to be on playgrounds. It just kind of fit." Which was hilarious considering the circumstances of her upbringing.
"And nope, I grew up in Indiana. New York caught my eye when I was in college. There's a whole special division here dedicated to mutants. It's right in the middle of the action, and the most progressive department there is. I had to get in."
She grew up wanting to be a teacher in Indiana. He had never been to Indiana, but the very little he knew made him think it was somewhere between what North Carolina was and what New York seemed to be. "So you are living out your dream. That's really cool." He thought about how this woman would be someone important to him in the future. "I must grow up to be a pretty good guy if I find someone as awesome as you." Maybe Nate Holloway was not so bad.
Being an artist and a teacher for other mutant kids seemed like a pretty good life, but he was a little jealous of Quin's exciting career path. "Hm, well if I don't become a policeman, maybe I can be a superhero! I have powers after all," he joked. There were plenty of superheroes to look up to, and to his knowledge, he'd be pretty unique with his power. Who would not want to be a superhero?

"Thanks." Quin said to Nate's comment with a small smile. Traffic was surprisingly light, so they were making good time through the city. "I feel pretty lucky that it's all worked out sometimes." She could have gotten into start paths and signs and all the things that generally earned her amused tolerance from Nate, but she withheld. There was still more to be discussed.
Super heroes. Quin couldn't help it, she frowned just a little bit at the idea. "We've got our fair share of those guys around here too." she said. "They do their best, but being biased like I am, I prefer when the police work sticks with the police."
Suddenly she felt like a dream crusher, so Quin sighed, "But I'm sure you'd make a great super hero."
Stephen's eyes lit up when he heard that superheroes really did fight crime in New York, wondering why he was not already a superhero as an adult. He could not think of any reason that would have changed his mind as an adult.
Quickly, however, it became apparent that the police and the superheroes were not all on good terms, just like in the comics. Sadly, Quin was one of those police at odds with the masked crowd. She did her best to fix it with a compliment, but he knew it was probably best to stay away from the topic. "Thank you, ma'am."
Thinking about his situation and the big group of kids at the station, he wondered if being a mutant had something to do with what happened to him. The thought led to another important question: "Are you a mutant too?" Stephen was always very quiet about his mutation, so maybe if she knew about it, Quin like him.
