The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

After her brush with death a year and a half ago Kate had avoided rain like the plague. She was terrified of getting caught in it and dieing again. Well that was until Hanna and Albie. They had gotten caught in a storm in the Roman heat of July. At first Kate had panicked and tried to frantically looked around for some kind of place to hide; that was until she heard Albie laughing next to her with his face up to the sky. The sun could still be seen in the distance but it was pouring where they were and he was laughing. She remembered wondering if her boyfriend had finally cracked. He took her hand and pulled her to him so they could dance in the rain. After the shock of the moment was gone she could finally feel the warmth on her skin. This was different then the rain she had seen in England and New York. This rain was warm and it was wonderful.
It was because of that that Kate now found herself standing in the back yard of the mansion with her face in the air and her eyes closed. She could feel every drop as it hit her face and she made a wish that she would see Albie soon. She knew she wasn’t done here and she didn’t’ want to endanger him by being around him, he was only human after all, but she missed him desperately and this warm New York rain only reminded her of that.
The garden behind the mansion was amazing. Kealey had ranted to her about that one day. She'd decided today was a good day to explore. And with the rain coming down, all warm and nice, she was hoping for a rainbow. That would make it twice as nice.
She ignored the umbrella. She really didn't think she needed it. She went with a hoodie instead. Hoods worked for her. It was nice.
This whole thing was nice. Walking in the rain, being happy.
Some ways ahead, someone else was being happy. What the heck were they doing? Sitting on a rock, sunbathing in the rain. Her curiosity got the best of her. Amelia bridged the distance between them and plopped down on the grass by the rock. Without turning to address the person she said to the sky "It's nice, isn't it?" She let the words hang in the air.
Kate sat down on a rock at the far end of the yard letting her hair fall around her back as she leaned back on the large surface and stretched out her green clad legs in front of her crossing them at the ankle. Her style had changed so much in just a year. She was wearing a long flowing pair of pants, a mustard colored jacket, and a long sleeve sweater, even though the rain was warm it was still only in the low 70s. The only thing that hadn’t really changed about her style was her shoes, they were the same vintage style she always wore. In actuality that was the one thing that hasn’t changed about her. Her style was now and would forever be vintage designer chic. It was classic and it was her. The girl really didn’t know how to dress like a slob. Though in her defense she never really had to do much to look great. So now here she sat her stylishly colorful outfit sitting on a rock in the rain when she was startled out of her thoughts of times past by a small voice next to her.
She looked over to find a young girl sitting in the grass next to her. She had dark brown hair and was about Kate’s size it seemed. She couldn’t be much older then Kate herself to tell the truth. She studied the girls face not recognizing it at all. She had only been back at the mansion for a few months but you quickly got used to seeing the same faces over and over around here. “Um… Yes I suppose it is.” Kate just sat looking at the girl with confusion spread across her face.
She supposed it was. She didn't add anything else. Silence had a chance at falling. Forget awkward silences. Amelia cut it off at the pass.
"My name's Ami," she announced. "Any special reason you're out in the rain?"
On a normal day, such a thing might be cold. Today it wasn't that cold. It was actually kind of nice. Maybe that was what the other girl was thinking. Or maybe she was simply insane~
“Very nice to meet you Ami.” Kate’s accent seemed to thicken through the name, “I’m Kate and I am out in the rain because it is warm. I don’t generally get to enjoy things like rain.” She shivered as she thought about the terror that had been a year and a half ago when everyone thought she had tried to commit suicide after the death of her mother. She had actually never even thought about the consequences of going out that day and she had surly never thought that she would be sitting out in the rain now. Honestly if this had been the girl that she used to be Kate would have been cowering inside afraid of the consequences of going out. “So why are you outside?”
So, the Kate girl was out because it was warm... and she didn't usually get to go out in the rain. Interesting. Must have some sort of power... Amelia's thoughts strayed. But not too far.
Back on-topic, she said. "I was going to check out the garden. Kealey's ranted about it a few times, so I figured 'why not?' Usually, I'd be going with Gawain, but... guess he's busy." She didn't frown. "Guess I'll just have to go out there with him later. While the flowers are still in bloom."
“Kealey?...” Kate searched her brain for someone living in the mansion by that name and after a few moments remembered a staff member she had only really seen in passing. She was a friends of Andrew’s she thought, “The librarian right?” She distinctly remembered the woman for her clothes now that she thought about it. She was always at the prime of fashion, something Kate greatly appreciated in the mansions sea of mediocrity. Kate was so lost in her thought that she almost didn’t hear the girl speaking before her, “Oh yes you should see it but I recommend not seeing it in the rain. The sunlight reflects off all the colors and I have to say it is just beautiful. It actually reminds me of my mother’s garden back home. She loved her flowers.” Kate got this dreamy look on her face as she remembered being a child gardening with her mother in the cool English springs. Her mother had taken such pride in the garden that she had made sure to have the staff preserve it just the way she did as a monument to her mother that she could go back and see whenever she wanted. She would have to bring Albert there when she was better and felt it was safe to be around him again. He would love it.
Sunlight, flowers, reflection, science. Amelia approved. "It sounds it." She smiled. "My mom loves flowers too," she added. "She's always finding the best ones for the table at her restaurant. Or her table at home."
Come to think of it, she hadn't seen any flowers on her mother's table lately.
Note to self:: Bring mom flower. She added it to her mental shopping list.
Kate smiled at the young woman next to her. It was nice that her mother cared so much as to make their world colorful and beautiful. “My mothers garden is the one thing that I took extra care was preserved after her death. It is the one thing she cared for as much as she cared for me so it was only appropriate. Or at least I think so.” She sat silently closing her eyes and just feeling the rain on her face.
“You are welcome to use my umbrella if you would like." Kate reached beside her and picked up an umbrella handing it to the girl. "Though what is the point of sitting in the rain if it isn’t to feel it. It is so rare that it is warm after all.” Kate sighed happily and picked up hwer coat, putting it on. The longer she sat there the cooler the rain seemed to get and the colder she got as a result. She started to wonder if she should not go inside but the stubborn part of her refused to let her go inside.
Amelia took the umbrella. It still didn't change the fact that she was wet, even when it was popped open and held up. She did it, all the same.
"Still wet," she commented wryly. "Would be nice if I had a mutation that dried clothes... rather than one that was affected when clothes were weighed down..." Her voice dropped slightly in a dark chuckle just loud enough for Kate to still hear. "... Although I bet Gawain would have something to say of wet t-shirts right about now."
Pitter patter went the rain against the umbrella's top.
Somewhere in a deep dark corner of the Mansion library, Gawain woke up with a start and lifted his face off the book he had been reading. Suddenly a thought of wet t-shirts seemed to invade his mind. "I'm gonna **** kill Calley-Clone." he muttered, before he went back to sleep.
Without even realizing what Ami has said and the fact that neither of them knew each other Kate spoke with a kind of familiarity with a loud laugh, “He would wouldn't he. That would be after he dragged me inside yelling at me about rain and almost dying. That boy is far more protective then he needs to be. Though he does have that whole knight in shinning armor thing going for him.” Kate looked down at her own clothes as the rain started to really come down, “Would you like to go inside and dry off a bit? Maybe have some hot tea.”
Yup. Knight in Shining armor complex, check. And wait, what? She did a double-take. Gawain knew this girl? She tilted the umbrella so she could get a better look. Yeah. She was gorgeous. Made sense.
"Going inside sounds amazing," she commented, then casually added. "So, how do you know Gawain? Also. Hope they have lemon."
