The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

It wasn't hard to tell that Sonya didn't want to say too much, and her glance to the other girl named Ash explained why. Sonya seemed a bit nervous but Syn wasn't sure if it was due to Ash being there or the fact that Sonya was telling Syn about herself.
Syn's eyes lit up as she pieced together the little puzzle that Sonya had layed before the girl. That is definately an interesting talent. She could be of great help in gathering information among other things. The smile on Syn's face stayed in place when Sonya practically pledged herself to Syn and the Order.
Nodding to Ash as Sonya introduces the other female Syn smirks at Sonya. "Yes, I do understand and I'm glad you liked our home. You both are more than welcome to join us. We have plenty of space. That is once we're able to get back inside." She didn't know what was going through Ash's head but why not extend her the same offer. Maybe she could be of some use as well.
The information Sonya had discovered was wonderful. They now had an inside person who could find things out as well as assist from a different vantage point than any of the others from Sanctuary. "I'm pleased to hear of your discoveries and any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. I wouldn't expect you to try to get to our friends on your own. In fact..." Syn lowered her voice so that only Sonya and Ash could hear..."A few of us managed to escape. We've been granted a place to stay and operate from by a man named Hunter Antonescu. He's the head of a third group and he has plenty of resources for us to utilize when the time comes to free our friends. So any further intel you can gather or any thing you can do on your own to aid us would be very useful."
The girl leaned back again and addressed Ash now. "Pleased to meet you Ash. My name is Syn. Is there anything I can do for you?"
Sonya shows no overt signs of emotion when Syn replies, but internally she sighs in relief. Thank God, she gets it. There are more details she has to offer, and more coordination will be necessary, but they are minor in comparison and can wait... the important points have been made.
And Syn has more to say, which Sonya attends to carefully. Hunter Antonescu? "third group"? The name means nothing to her, and she has no idea who the first two groups are -- presumably the Order is one of them, though. And on a moment's further thought, she realizes the "other" group has got to be the one Rupert mentioned invading earlier, the one Raina belonged to.
So... three groups of mutants, huh? I wonder how well they get along. It would seem Hunter's group are allies, which is reassuring... especially since they appear to be the only ones competant enough to avoid getting destroyed by the police. But it also appears that Syn wants Sonya to stay on the outside as a covert resource... which is perfectly fine with her. Circumstances have backed her into throwing her lot in with Syn's, but the fewer people who know who she is and what she can do, the better.
Which brings her back around to Ash, whose story she is rather curious about, so she leans back to listen when Syn turns the conversation in Ash's direction.
At the same time, she scribbles her new cell-phone number -- one of the more long-term useful purchases she made with the cash she got from Stanley's credit card -- on the back of a napkin. "For your use only," she scrawls underneath it, and folds the napkin in two before passing it to Syn.

Ash sat next to Sonya in the booth, but not particularly close. Can't say I blame her.. She sat and listened both quietly and patiently to Sonya and another woman, who's name was apparently Syn, hold one of the strangest and most strained conversations imaginable. They were trying to share as little information with her as possible, well Sonya was anyway, she knew that. Ash wasn't completely ignorant. She was however curious about this woman in front of her. She spoke with authority, that much was obvious. But who the hell is she?
> "Yes, I do understand and I'm glad you liked our home. You both are more than welcome to join us. We have plenty of space. That is once we're able to get back inside."
As soon as the word 'home' left Syn's mouth Ash felt a little pang at her chest. Home.. somewhere to stay... with people... Welcome... With friends and warm food and warm beds and friends and people to understand her and friends! Her heart was pounding but she was careful to appear calm and wiped the hopeful smile off her face. She didn't want to seem like a child in front of these people she hardly knew and she was hardly getting off to a good start as it was.
Suddenly, Ash heard her name and quickly blinked out of her daydream, forcing her mind to drift back into the conversation in front of her.
> "Pleased to meet you Ash. My name is Syn. Is there anything I can do for you?"
"Very nice to meet you" Ash reached her hand out toward Syn and quicky brought it back to her lap. "So, um... I think maybe I could be useful to you too, actually," she spewed out as she pulled her small leather gloves from her back pocket and pulled them over each hand. Ash rattles her brain, trying to decide what to say next or how to demonstrate her abilities. Her first thought, instinctively, was to shake hands with Syn and hope for a lucky connection. Pulling a distant memory from her would have been a sure way to get her attention, but after Sonya's reaction, Ash decided to treat this as more of a 'don't speak unless spoken to' situation. But she asked..
"I'm looking for a place to stay... Or a direction even. I can, uhm.." She paused a second, wondering if anyone could overhear and lowered her voice an octave. "I can touch things, and read thoughts off of them. But only partial thoughts, sometimes I can see pictures with them too maybe even hear sounds. Here, I can show you." She reaches back into her pocket and pulls out one of her few possessions, a purple pen, and places it on the table in front of her. "Syn, hold the pen in your hand like you are about to write with it, and pick a number between one and ten, k?" Ash let a thin smile stretch across her features and brought her hands back to her lap. "You can just put the pen back once you've done so."
I hope she's impressed.. Suddenly Ash thinks back to Sonya. I hope I can apologize later, wonder if she'll forgive me. She really didn't mean to strike a nerve in Sonya, she just wanted her attention. She let out a quiet sigh and decided. We'll just have to see I suppose.
A curious look washed over Syn's face when Ash offered her hand but then quickly withdrew it. Even curiouser was when Ash stated that she might be of some use to Syn also. The girl went on to say that she could read thoughts, images and sometimes sounds from touching things.
This was very interesting indeed. Immediately Syn could see the possibilities between these two ladies. Whether they worked together or apart they both had the ability to gain knowledge that others may not get through words alone. They could be the secret eyes and ears of the Order.
Ash then went on to conduct a little demonstration. She offered Syn a purple pen and then stated that Syn think of a number between one and ten. It was a simple test and Syn went along with it. She held the pen in the writing position and thought of her favorite number. Six. Syn then placed the pen back infront of Ash and waited. She wanted to see what else the girl might pick up other than the number she thought of.
Ash's reaction to Syn's offer, an expression of longing only partially concealed by the attempt to appear sophisticated, surprises Sonya, as does her flustered explanation of her goals and abilities.
Maybe I misjudged her, she thinks to herself... after all, if her powers are what she describes, she could have picked up my name telepathically. And it would be pretty hypocritical of me to give anyone flak for using their powers to lift information off of strangers.
Of course, that's a big "if"... the girl could be lying. But if so it's part of a game Sonya can't make sense of... why pick up the name from her mind, then admit to having it? The deceitful thing to do would have been to strike up a supposedly casual conversation, let Sonya introduce herself, make friends under false pretenses.
Like I did with Calley... She squelches the thought, and the associated pangs of conscience, with the speed of habit. After all, it's not like Tiger-Boy didn't have secrets of his own... and anyway, she doesn't owe him a thing.
Lost in her own thoughts, she doesn't even notice Syn taking the pen until she puts it back down. Girl, woolgathering in this crowd is gonna get you into trouble! she berates herself, and concentrates on paying attention to what Ash is doing.

Ash knew very well she should not have been so open, but this woman was the leader of something big, she didn't entirely understand what, but she knew enough to know that it was indeed something important. And the fact that she was being invited into something made her hopeful. Maybe.. I'm a wee bit naive. I should work on that.. She heard the click of the pen being dropped back onto the table and picked it up between her fingertips, slowly running them over its surface. She didn't want to smudge any of the prints before she got the chance to read them.
Six, my favorite number.. The thought was clear, being a clean new print. Syn's voice rang smoothly through her mind.
"You picked six.. its your favorite number." Ash smiled, wishing she could see the new acquaintance's face. She wished she could read it. Was she amused? Unimpressed? She enjoyed being the center of attention for a few moments but sat back, knowing she was way out of her element. To think, I don't think I've ever met a mutant before, and I've now met two in a matter of minutes. Ash was desperate for information but figured she would find out all she needed to know in due time.
When Ash repeated what Syn had thought about the number six being her favorite number it truly impressed the girl. "That's very good. I applaude you Ash. Though, I wonder what else you are able to pickup besides my favorite number." Syn's voice had a tone as if to say 'That's a nice opening trick but what can you really do?' She wanted to see for herself just how much information Ash could pick up from a single print. Especially one that was freshly made.
Looking to Sonya for a moment it appeared as if the other woman was heavy in thought. Yet she was paying attention to what was going on still. A thought then crossed her mind as she waiting to see is Ash would respond. The thought was this. Do I want Sonya to copy me? She could prove useful as a decoy should the need arise, but do I truly want her to truly know what I'm capable of. That might be dependant on how well they got along.
There's something weird about asking someone to read your mind, thinks Sonya as the strange interview proceeds, and she wonders whether Syn's abilities somehow protect her from telepathy or if she's really that confident of her ability to take care of things if Ash finds out something she shouldn't.
She hopes it's one or ther other, since the prospect of having shared her secret with someone who is careless about keeping secrets makes her a little nervous.
Well, too late to worry about it now. She'd told Syn the truth because she'd learned she needed allies if she was going to be really effective, and Syn was the most well-connected mutant she'd met. That remains true, no matter what happens now, and that's going to have to be enough.
Thinking it through further, it occurs to her that were she in Ash's position, it might be best to pretend to less information than she actually has. Come to think of it, I don't really know for sure that she can only read thoughts through touch... it would be clever for her to pretend to that limitation, so the rest of us feel safe around her. Of course, she hasn't exactly demonstrated that kind of devious mind thus far... on the other hand, maybe that's what she wanted me to think...?
Her waitress arrives with her Reuben and coffee, distracting her from the threat of infinite regress, and she chuckles as she takes a big bite, waiting for Ash to strut her stuff. Surely I cannot take the cup in front of you...

>"That's very good. I applaud you Ash. Though, I wonder what else you are able to pickup besides my favorite number."
Ash sat back and thought a moment. What could she do, really? She could pick up thoughts from fingerprints. Something important only if she was lucky, but she could never be sure. Some people think in more detail than others. Some people think in words rather an images. She never knows what to expect from people.
But just how well should she explain herself? Come to think of it, what can Syn do exactly? She sat and told them something even her mother never knew. And why? Because she was lonely and weak. Not a good combination. Note to self: Learn to better control you're emotions.
An idea popped into her head and she sat up straighter. It wouldn't hurt to show off a little, after all, I need Syn's approval, right? Ash had no reason to think otherwise and frankly, no other choice as far as she could tell.
Ash turned to Syn, "When the waitress comes back, ask for a coffee and don't touch it? And you'll see," and she sat back again, idly running her fingers across the edge of their table, letting the thoughts go in one ear and out the other, barely even registering.
Decaf... sugar or equal... home-... gonna fail... gotta pick up Alex at... -is he?... With so many voices passing through her head she wondered how schizophrenics felt. Maybe they aren't crazy at all. Or maybe she is.
With Ash accepting Syn's little challenge the girl gestured for the waitress to come over to their table. "I'd like a cup of coffee and that's all." The waitress just gave a quick nod and headed off. She was back only a couple minutes later with the cup of coffee. Setting it down she then left to tend to other customers.
"Very well Ash. There's the coffee." Syn then waited to see what the other girl was going to do next.
> "When the waitress comes back, ask for a coffee and don't touch it? And you'll see,"
Wow, this is getting dull. Sonya thinks as she munches on her sandwich and waits for the coffee to arrive, and then laughs at the thought. Guess I’m getting jaded… a year ago the prospect of getting to watch a genuine demonstration of telepathy would’ve had me on the edge of my seat!
Of course, since then she’s seen a man throw fire with his mind, met a woman with the body of a cat, and watch a teenage boy turn into a tiger (or, well, she only actually watched it go the other way around, but still), and her standards for spectacular have gone up.
“So, not to interrupt your interview process here, but I was thinking maybe you could fill me in on our plans for getting the rest of us out of the Camps… there’s got to be other irons in the fire, right? I talked to Calley about it the other day, but you know how he is. So what can I do to help?”

Ash slipped off one of her gloves and dropped it in her lap. She slid the steaming mug closer by the brim with the tips of her fingers. No use ruining fresh prints.
She sank down into her seat slightly at Sonya's statement. She doesn't seem too impressed. And decided she didn't need to show off, just needed to answer Syn's question. She rested her chin in the crook of her elbow and ran her bare pointer finger over the handle, clean clear thoughts drifted through her mind's eye.
"The waitress doesn't like us, she thinks we're looking for trouble. Though it seems to just be paranoia, she thinks that about all of her customers. And she's mentally counting her tips, isn't too pleased with the $8.72 she's made in the past 4 hours." Ash sat up and yawned, her eyelids suddenly felt a little heavy. It WAS late after all.
She shook the sleep out of her head and turned her attention back to Syn and Sonya, she had to admit, Sonya had some good questions.
Well, Ash's little demonstration was impressive and while Syn was wondering what Ash could pick up from herself the girl was some what relieved that Ash didn't pick up anything. If the waitress thought the three of them were looking for trouble they sure would've gotten it if Ash had blurted out anything about Syn.
"That's a very useful talent you have Ash. I can definately use the two of you in helping to gather information as well as providing any kind of assistance you can while not being captured. Whatever you can uncover regarding our friends or just keeping me up to date on what's going on would help out greatly." Syn asked the waitress for a pen and she then wrote her personal cell phone number down and gave each of the other two girls a copy. "If you find anything out that you think is helpful in any way I want you to call or text me."
Syn then turned more to Sonya as she had asked about the camps. "Right now a few of us are teaming up with Hunter and his people to come up with a plan to get our friends out as well as get the law revoked. I don't have any specifics as of yet but if I find out more then I'll be in touch."
The black and red haired girl the sat back and looked at the two new girls. They were special in their own ways and could be very good Order members should all this work out. "Is there anything else on either of your minds?"
> “Right now a few of us are teaming up with Hunter and his people > to come up with a plan to get our friends out as well as get the law > revoked. I don't have any specifics as of yet but if I find out more then I'll be in touch.”
Sonya nods quietly as she adds Syn’s number to her cellphone’s memory under a nondescript pseudonym.
She’s a little disappointed, and it shows; she’d expected to find the Resistance more organized than that. Still, maybe she’s just being impatient…it hasn’t been that long, after all. Or maybe Syn’s just being careful about what she talks about in public, which Sonya approves of.
“That sounds fair. Remember I’ve got a potential inside contact who can help, if we can arrange for some way to transport and hide the escapees... so, you know, keep me in the loop, OK?”
> "Is there anything else on either of your minds?"
Sonya thinks about that for a while. There are things she wants to know, about the Order and about Calley and about Syn and about all kinds of thing, but none of them are urgent. The important thing is that she’s finally made contact with the mutant underground; everything else will come in time.
She shakes her head.
“Nothing that isn’t just as well handled by phone some other time. Except…” she blushes a little at the absurdity of this, since she’s a real believer in the principle that two can keep a secret only if one of them is dead, but given that she has confidants now it’s best to encourage them to keep her cover, “well, don’t forget, my name is Teresa. I’m a healer, by the way… myself, only… and if Calley asks, I was around Sanctuary for a few days before the raid. Everything else, well, I’d rather keep it between us, OK?”

((OOC: Sorry it took me so long to post, life's been crazy with college applications and Christmas coming. I'll be much better about my posting from now on, promise.))
Ash tried but couldn't keep a smile from spreading across her face as should took the paper from Syn. Blind means I can't read, dear.. She thought, but held her tongue. When she was presented with a reading situation, her powers obviously came in handy. She shoved the paper into her pocket.
> "Is there anything else on either of your minds?" She cocked her head to one side, thinking a moment. She nearly laughed, There's plenty on my mind, I practically live in my mind. She was happy enough knowing she could be of some use in the future, it gave her something to focus in on, rather than roam aimlessly as she had been doing the past three or four weeks. Damn, she wasn't even sure what day of the week it was.
> "Everything else, well, I’d rather keep it between us, OK?” She turned to Sonya and gave her a quick nod, of course she could understand. She had spent her entire life, up until this very night, hiding her secret from anyone she had ever come in contact with. Something we have in common, everyone is hiding something..
Ash yawned again, reminding herself just how tired she was and started thinking where she'd be staying tonight. Its nice out, park bench, under a tree, in a tree. Wasn't a big deal as long as the weather was fine. She brought her focus back to Syn, "Syn.. where are you going from here?"
