The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

It had been a couple days since Syn had returned to her beloved Sanctuary and even though she felt right at home she still wasn’t feeling quite herself. The gathering with her old friends and brother in the dining hall was rather pleasant, but it didn’t make her feel completely whole again. There was something she needed to do that she couldn’t for quite some time.
Changing into some workout clothes consisting of a red sports top and tight black shorts Syn sought out her brother (who wasn’t far away). “I need to get myself back into tip top shape. I didn’t get much exercise while I was gone. Let’s go to the gym.”
Leading the way to Sanctuaries gym Syn looked around at all the various equipment. “Ok bro, I appoint you as my personal trainer. What shall we start with?”
Coming to the door with half a doughnut in his mouth and the other half in his hand was hardly an inspiring sight. He was however already dressed for it. He had black windbreakers on and a white tank top. "Hrng ron" He said around the dough nut. He shoved the rest of the food in his mouth and washed his hands. He pulled on a pair of socks and put his sneakers on.
Abyss looked down at his sister in what he assumed she thought was appropriate work out gear, and what he might have considered as a bathing suit for her.... " First we stretch, While we do that, we can figure out what our goal is and work around that.strength training, cardio? Personally I could use some time on the treadmill."
Boring days were a rare thing for Kyle, but when they decided to make their presence felt, they made their presence felt. Today was one of those elusive days. Outside was terrible and when things were terrible outside, less trouble would be taking place in obvious sight. Add on top of that all the people he was acquainted with here being away or busy today, everything added up to a boring day.
It was on these kind of days that Kyle had to find amusement in three other things; practicing his skills atop the nearby roofs, workout or interact with other member's of Sanctuary. The weather outside ruled out the first option, but two and three were still viable.
Which was why Kyle was in the gym, dressed in a simple, short sleeved black muscle shirt, with shorts to match, save for the red stripes along the sides. The Sanctuary gym was well stocked, with plenty of different equipment and exercises for its mutant population to make use of. At the moment, Kyle was hanging about ten feet off the ground, swinging from the monkey bars. The bars were spread decently apart and with no ground to support yourself on, the entire exercise was designed to work out your upper body.
Swinging back and forth with an ease borne from practice and his own extended stamina, Kyle was well into his tenth rep when two new arrivals caught his attention. Or rather, the one arrival made him do a double take, which allowed him to spy the second. Holding to the bar he was on, Kyle turned his eyes to what he could swear was Mercury, the man he'd encountered with Isabel recently. And with him was...
Someone he did not know or remember seeing until lately. A woman, correction, a stunning woman. And he did not know her yet, compared to the rest of the folks currently residing within the gym at the time. It was time to change that.
With a smile, Kyle waited till they were closer before shouting out a greeting. "How come whenever I see you Mercury, you have an attractive woman beside you? I do hope though that you're not here to work out; I doubt this equipment could handle your strength."
Even as the words left his mouth, Kyle was dropping to the ground, landing in a roll and then moving to just outside arm's reach of the pair, his smile holding firm, despite the fact that the man could snap him in two if he wanted too. "And who, might I ask, are you Ms?"
Trying to push the image of her brother stuffing his face out of her mind Syn nodded in agreement to stretching first. She tried to remember the various exercises she used to do in cheerleading. Back then she was fast, strong and agile. That’s how the dark girl wanted to be once again.
“Ok, that sounds good. I think some treadmill time is a good start to get the heart pumping.” As Syn started to stretch with her brother she noticed someone else was in the gym. Almost immediately the guy started shouting in their direction, and apparently he thought he was talking to Mercury. This in itself made Syn smirk to herself, but it quickly faded as the guy kept talking. He was now referring to her as arm candy for the one he thought was Mercury. This was just before approaching the siblings and directing himself to her and asking who she was.
Oh how he had come forward in the wrong manner to her. Granted he didn’t know who she was let alone the position she used to hold within Sanctuary and the Order. It was the way he spoke of her to start with. In that brief moment he had already earned himself a retort.
Not letting the guy mess up her gym time Syn continued to stretch as she replied back. “You might want to watch who you refer to as arm candy. You could end up having a very bad day.” Syn stretched her arms up above her head but kept her focus on the man standing in front of her brother and herself. “My name is Syn and you are….?”
He nodded, “If nothing else the treadmill will help us burn more calories during the rest of our workout.” He managed to say all of that without laughing, as if he cared about calories.
Abyss grinned at the man, He was one of the newer members of the Order, the mistake was common enough, but should he just correct him or confuse him more. Mecury tended to make odd impressions. “Mercury was with an attractive woman? not Venus? Hmmm. Ah, Isabel. That makes sense. Nah, the cardio equipment is the only thing I really bother with here, though sometimes I rearrange the equipment when it needs it.” He shrugged. He would let the man pick his own battles with his little sister, though he did want to smack him a little for watching while she stretched, he couldn’t help but feel he was leering. He reminded himself that if Syn didn’t want people looking she might have worn more clothes.
He almost felt bad for the guy, if he was trying to pick up Order woman he was in for a rough time, Maybe he’d have a talk with him and atleast give him an Idea of what he was up against.
He bended over attempting to bring his fingers to his toes and not coming any where close.
Kyle blinked and tilted his head partially to the side at the man. His appearance was similar enough, along with his voice...but this wasn't Mercury. There was a slight difference to the way he held himself, to the way he spoke. Plus, he had referred to Mercury in the third person and from his last meeting with the man, that wasn't something he did. A relative perhaps? The mention of one called Venus added in another factor to consider, perhaps another one of these red skinned men.
The man's joking tone at least, for now, weakened the possibility of violence incoming, but Kyle kept a part of his mind geared to being ready if that time came. "So you're not him then? I guess that's my mistake...you do look an awful lot like him. So if you''re not him, then might I ask what to call you then? "
If this man was related to Mercury in any way though, Kyle would have to really be on guard. The memory of just what that man could do was still fresh and if this man was capable of that in any way...
Something to worry about in the future, but not for the moment. The man wasn't showing any open hostility and if Kyle could keep it that way, then all the better. The Sanctuary gym didn't need a remodeling after all. So Kyle turned his gaze to the woman, who had been stretching all this time and during her response to him. It wasn't so much leering as it was investigating, a breakdown that Kyle did to everyone he met. Physically fit, pretty, shaped in the right dimensions; the woman would give a model a run for their money. But there was something about her that set of warning bells in Kyle's head, a caution to take when approaching her.
And his instincts were usually right. Not like that had ever stopped him before, just made him more prepared for trouble. "My apologies if I was offensive in any way. It was supposed to be a compliment, though I guess it was a poor one.
Syn is it? A rather unique name. Well, it's a pleasure to meet you Syn. I'm Kyle. So...are you new here or have I just missed running into you?"
Choosing to ignore the conversation between the man and her brother, Syn continued to stretch. She sat down and reached out grabbing her toes. “I don’t like being referred to as someone’s arm candy so it’s not a compliment to me.” Pulling her feet in close she pressed down on her knees with her elbows. She noticed the guy kept checking her out, but it didn’t bother her as she was used to always being looked at. “Yes, my name is pretty unique, but it fits who I am. As for your other question Kyle, you could say I’ve returned home after being away for awhile.”
“ It happens with Seven of us running around, You can call me Abyss.” A hidden smile came to his face as he was bending toward the floor, she already had the poor guy on the ropes and apologizing, though he seemed well meaning enough. There was something also that made him want to chuckle at Kyle asking Syn if she were new. Though he couldn’t blame him now could he.
“So Kyle, you’ve joined the Order haven’t you? We should have met long ago, I’m afraid that’s my fault. I’ve been distracted up until recently. Mind if I ask, what it is you bring to the table?” He always felt more comfortable at least having a hint about other mutants powers.
The big red man continued to stretch and pop his joints as he went. He was still wondering what kind of fitness guru he was supposed to be. He could definitely spot her if she wanted to do some weight training he supposed.
"Well, then I'm sorry for insulting you. I'll make sure any further compliments are indeed compliments."
Kyle waited a moment, watching Syn stretch out a little more. She was quite flexible, he noted, stretching down to reach her toes with what seemed to be reasonable ease. She must have been in remarkable shape as well, for what parts of her body were exposed were well defined, with very little fat to be seen. Clearly Syn liked to spend time in the gym, a fact that could provide useful in the future.
Lifting his gaze to the man who had introduced himself as Abyss, Kyle rose an eyebrow when Abyss said there were seven of him. Seven? Seven men that were all the same save for their personalities perhaps? Just thinking of seven men with Mercury's strength made him wince inside. "Far as I know I have. As for not running into one another, no worries. I'm learning new faces every day."
Glancing back to Syn for a moment, Kyle smiled and offered her a hand up when he noticed her moving to stand. "Well, I'm glad to welcome you home." Then Kyle turned to Abyss again and pondered how to answer his question. After a moment, Kyle waved at the gym with a hand. "I don't mind at all. Long story short, while most people can only work out hard for a few hours, I could work out here for maybe half a day going all out. I don't tire easily.
There's more to it but I can't be giving away all my secrets that easily. Not without something being exchanged to make the table fair." Giving a grin and a wink to Syn, he waited a moment for a second before adding, ""And by that I mean asking to join you for your session here. Not too much trouble to ask, I hope."
“It would be much appreciated if you did Kyle.” Giving a nod accepting his apology Syn transitioned from her current position to doing the splits instead of standing up. A stretch she had perfected a long time ago before ever going to school. She used to do it just to watch the boys cringe when she was younger. That would always bring a smile to her face.
When her brother asked a key question directed at Kyle regarding being part of the Order Syn allowed their conversation back into her hearing. She wanted to hear and see any possible power demonstrations, but so far that was a bust as Kyle only gave a verbal response. “So you can workout all day huh? That’s….useful.” Syn added some sarcasm to that last bit. “The gym is for everyone to use Kyle, but for joining us…it’s no bother to me.”
Abyss nodded his ascension to kyle joining them, and he could hardly be annoyed with him anymore if syn was going to go and flaunt her flexibility, because where boys would consider what the splits would do to them, men tended to think of other possibilities.
“That’s impressive and You can work out with us either way,I doubt we will be going all out, all day long. Also you don’t have to give away your secrets if it makes you uncomfortable, I just like knowing what potential my associates have to offer.”
Abyss smiled at the grin and the wink genuinely liking the fellow for forging ahead inspite of his sisters cold and taunting reception.
Abyss got onto a tread meal and set it to three, a nice, slow steady jog. He could trod along at this pace for quite some time, however he did need to build up his stamina. So he tapped the speed button once more. He was making good time know at the wreck less pace of four...The treadmill maxxed out at speed twelve in which someone could run a six minute mile, at his pace it would take him thirty.
What Kyle had interpreted as a move to stand turned out to be completely wrong; Syn was merely switching positions so she could do the splits instead. For a second, Kyle was caught in that awkward moment, standing there with hand out for no reason. Then, casually and without worry, he shrugged and retracted his hand, placing it on his chin to rub it absently as he watched her do the most dreaded move known to males.
Which she did with flawless technique no less. She was practically flat to the floor and yet, it didn't seem to bother her in the slightest. Quite the flexible one, this Syn was. Kyle also noticed, amusingly, that when he went to answer Abyss's question, that the red man was the only one listening. Curious to what I can do, I see. Well, all in good time.
"Well, it has its uses. But I can tell that hasn't wet your appetite in the slightest, so I think I might be able to satisfy your mind hunger a little better."
Nodding to Abyss, Kyle joined him on a separate treadmill. Setting it to an average five for the moment, Kyle waited for a few moments for Syn to possibly join them before continuing with what he had been saying before. It took him a moment to delegate how much was worth telling them at this time, but he figured that telling them details about the two gifts his powers granted him would suffice.
"You see, from what I gather, my body produces excess amounts of thermal and electrical energy. Because of this, the muscles in my body take much longer to grow fatigued, allowing me to, in short, do anything of the physical nature for inhuman amounts of time. It's quite useful for many other reasons too.
Sorry, I've droned on a bit. I can tell you there's another purpose to my power, but one never shows all his cards right away. I propose a trade; you show me yours and I'll show you the rest of mine. Logically fair, correct?" The question was directed to both of them, but he was looking at Syn when he made the request.
Both of the men started going on a couple of the treadmills, and Syn did the same on her own machine next to Abyss. Like her brother she started out on a lower setting. No need to try overdoing it right away. She was smarter than that and knew how to take care of herself. Setting the machine to 3 she joined her brother in a nice easy jog.
Listening to Kyle talk about his ability Syn occasionally looked his direction. His description of what he could do started to sound a little more useful than just working out in the gym all day and not get tired. However, Syn’s experiences with reading people told her there was still something else being left out.
It was at that time when Kyle made his proposition, and when Syn noticed the man looking at her when he said it. She responded with a sly little smile. “I’m afraid I can’t show you anything. There’s simply nothing to see. Sorry for the disappointment.”
Abyss smirked as he listened to Mercury’s assessment of Forte in his head, the events that transpired at an ice cream shop on a rainy day.
“Mmm, you haven’t droned, merely explained something not easy to explain. And while my sister speaks true about being able to show you her power I think she could still display it if she was inclined. I however am not afraid to answer a question that I asked of you.”
He nodded toward the weights. A black oval appeared seemingly from nowhere, It was a tear in the world as they knew it, a black whole that lead to his mind. And while he could have simply asked mercury mentally to exit the void and perform a task, he thought he would give them the benefit of hearing the conversation. “Mercury, would you please smash something. Mercury leaned forward out of the black oval of nothing and pointed at Forte. He reached down and grabbed one of the hundredpound weights, lifting as if it were a feather, he pressed his hands together kneading the metal like a dough, smashing it into a thin circle, and smushing it once more until and rolling it with his palms until it was a hundred pound tiny medicine ball. He let it roll from his hand and it smashed into the ground. Mercury glared at Forte and slid back into the void.
Abyss looked to Forte,"I don’t think Mercury likes you.” The smile on his face was slightly apologetic, Abyss knew exactly why Merc didn’t like him, abyss felt it was petty, he would have to have a talk with him.
Kyle matched Syn's smile with his own, keeping a constant pace on the treadmill even without having to focus on it. He knew just as well that not all mutations had to be seen to exist; his power was one of them, until he chose to make it appear otherwise.
"Is that so? Well, maybe you could describe what it does, if that's not too much to ask?"
Abyss chose that moment to speak, so Kyle reluctantly turned his gaze to the man to observe his demonstration of his own power. Turning his head to the weights as Abyss indicated, Kyle almost lost a step when a hole in space appeared. Glancing back to Abyss for a moment, Kyle turned to stare at the apparent void in the room...and found himself staring into a face that looked just as familiar as the man beside him.
Mercury. Mercury, who he'd run into at that shop a few days ago. Mercury, who had attempted, at Isabel's direction, to try and crush him like an ant. The man obviously had not forgotten that, as before making an ample demonstration of his power on one of the weights, Mercury pointed at him. Despite the obvious threat behind the motion, Kyle couldn't help but grin at the man as he glared on his way out.
Shaking his head, Kyle clicked the speed up another notch on the treadmill as he turned back to the others. "Yes well, I'm not too partial to him either. That tends to happen when someone tries to splatter you over a wall. Still, I can respect him and his strength; I just have to make sure I'm not caught by it."
Shrugging his shoulders, Kyle brought the conversation back to where it was before. Before Mercury's appearance, Abyss had managed to say some very interesting information and Kyle was curious to know more. "Now then...there is a way to display it? Would I be able to notice if it was working?...and did I hear you right when you said "sister"? You two are related?"
Odd considering one was bright red and strong likely strong enough to crush most things to pulp and from what he could tell, there was little resemblance between them. Still...mutants could easily not look anything like other members of their family.
