The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Kaitlyn could talk about it for hours, but they only had time for the short version. She kept leading Dahlia out of the garage. "It's kinda like a homeless shelter, but nicer than a normal one, and it's only for mutants, like us." The duo was about to make their way around a corner, following a sign that said "exit" on it.
"Wait," the cartoonish voice echoed through the garage.
Kaitlyn looked back, then stopped, and turn around. A mutant that looked part man, part walrus was addressing them. He was wearing a mall cop uniform, but his handgun was holstered, and his hands were held out in front of him, palms open, indicating that he meant no harm. Were it not for the obvious mutation and the body language, he might have scared Kaitlyn into blowing up; as it stood, she was still very close to it. Her eyes didn't leave him for a second.
Paul was at a loss for words. How, exactly, should one address a young deity? 'Holy one' or 'your holiness' seemed a bit much. 'My liege' or 'My lady' didn't really fit either. "...Ma'am," he began, "That isn't the best way to sneak out. There's another guard sitting there who handles most of the cars that go in and out. He might catch you. But there's another way out, without anyone there, that way" he pointed across the parking garage.
Kaitlyn kept staring at him, rooted in place. She wasn't sure how she was supposed to react to him, unless he decided to start trying to take them in. The radio on his hip blared to life. "Any sign of our terror suspects in the garage?" asked a voice. Slowly, carefully, Paul reached for his handheld radio, brought it up to his mouth, and softly told it "Nope" before putting the radio back on his belt.
...You've heard stories about me? Don't listen to them! It's safe to sit next to me, really!
There was that word again, us. Dahlia wasn't sure it meant what Kaitlyn thought it meant. Whatever Kaitlyn could do it would never make her like Dahlia. Kaitlyn could blend in with the normal people. But whatever, someplace to live would be nice! Finding warm places had been difficult sometimes. Not having to worry about that would be good. When the wait echoed through the garage Dahlia didn't even have to turn around. It was quiet down here so her hearing better. Her eyes swiveled backwards and locked onto the man and kept him in sight of one eye or the other while she turned around with Kaitlyn.
The guy seemed to be focused on Kaitlyn more than her so Dahlia kept quiet. Whoever he was he was giving them a way out and Dahlia was thankful for that. No matter what was going to happen Dahlia's eyes kept darting this way and that. Her ability to move her eyes independently was one of the few good things that turning into a monster had given her. Practically nobody could sneak up on her now!
The guy even went and told his other cop buddies that they were there! Maybe he was a good cop. With one eye on him and one eye on Kaitlyn, Dahlia spoke up quietly.
"Uh, thanks mister."
Reaching over to Kaitlyn, Dahlia poked at her gently with two taloned digits.

He was actually helping them escape?
... Well, he was a mutant, she decided, so this was a good and natural thing for him to do. Clearly he was just doing this to stick up for his own kind. Mall cop here was making an admirable decision, choosing the good of his race over the mission his employers laid out for him. She gave the man a respectful nod before going on her way.
In a way, he wasn't doing it for their sake, so much as for his colleague's safety. In the visions that the Oracle had given him, Paul had seen what this girl was capable of, and learned that this was far more than an ordinary little girl. Though, it couldn't hurt to get on the good side of a minor deity.
The way out was another entrance for those parking in the garage. Kaitlyn and Dahlia passed by a car as its driver pushed a button and received a parking slip from a machine, which then moved a large wooden barrier out of the way to let the driver in. Kaitlyn narrowly avoided getting hit in the head by said wooden barrier. Soon, the two had made it to the sidewalk, and began to blend in with the mass of pedestrians found there. "Blend in" was a relative term; Dahlia still stuck out like a sore thumb.
"So... what now?" Kaitlyn asked. "I can still take you home with me if you want."
...You've heard stories about me? Don't listen to them! It's safe to sit next to me, really!
They managed to get to the exit that the mutant cop pointed out for them pretty easy. Though Kaitlyn nearly got smacked by the wooden barrier and Dahlia's horns got caught on it for a moment. But they got out and that was the important thing! They were out of the mall and now the mean cops couldn't catch them and hurt them! Dahlia had Kaitlyn to thank for that so if she thought that this Sanctuary place was the best place to go then that was where Dahlia would go. It would get her off the street and she might not even have to steal! That was a very nice thought.
"Um, would they really take me?"
Kaitlyn was a normal looking person after all. What if they only liked normal looking people? Dahlia didn't want to get there just so they could laugh at her for being a monster. She'd kept saying 'us' so maybe Kaitlyn really meant it and they'd take her in but Dahlia just wasn't sure. Who would want to have a big lizard around? She didn't even look remotely girlish anymore!
"I mean, uh, sure!"
Dahlia perked up. No one liked a mopey lizard. Entirely justified or not she needed to act happy. So act happy she would! Dahlia would go to this Sanctuary place and then she'd have a bed and food and wouldn't have to thieve anymore! Maybe she'd even get to make a pretty necklace for Kaitlyn as thanks!
