Daria Wanted to be alone.
It was her first week at the mutant academy and her classes hadn't started yet. She'd decided she would take a walk and had teleported herself to central park. She'd been walking for almost an hour contemplating her new life and trying to avoid the stares of people. She hated when they looked at her. She was wearing a long hooded sweater and tried to keep her tail pressed against her leg so that no one would notice it. She missed being able to walk down the street and only having to deal with guys asking for her number. Now she had cat ears and eyes to hide beneath a hood and tinted shades. She approached the bridge in central park, letting her sneakers slide across the slick cobblestone, freshly wet from the rain. Daria leapt onto the side of the bridge perching herself comfortably where she could look into the water and see her reflection. She dared not remove the hood and shades; who knew who was watching? And Daria already knew what lied beneath. Who was she? Why had she taken her life for granted for so long? Why did it take something so drastic as..whatever had happened to her ... for her to realize how wonderful she was? Why did she have to be a..freak? "You could end it all right now..." she thought to herself. "you could just jump" Cats hated water. Daria could feel a slight breeze pass by her , playing around her face, teasing her hood. She felt herself leaning forward. "stop that, now Daria" she warned and leaned back to an upright position. She put her right hnd down next to her intending to push off with her foot and jump back onto the bridge but her sneaker slipped and she slid off . Her back was to the construction and she couldn't get a grip on it. She panicked too much to teleport and went splashing into the water, the cold liquid filling her lungs. As she thrashed, she was vaguely aware of a boy sitting beneath the bridge. She forgot about her unusual features and cried the words her heart had been screaming since her mutaion: "HELP!"

Daria's own scream woke her from her daydream. She was sweating although the crisp fall day didn't have much heat. She still sat on the edge of the bridge able to see her reflection and, to her dismay, nothing had changed. She shooke her self like a cat and jumped back onto the walkway of the bridge. She wasn't in the mood for her little mood swings, not now.
Daria made her way back to the Academy.
