The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Therapy. Apparently she needed it. Quin sighed as she made her way towards the cookie cutter office where the police-contracted psychiatrists worked.
It had been what, a week since she’d almost been killed? A week since Ashton had burst through her door like some sort of hero and brought her back to life. The whole thing was just so darn outlandish, even when she said it to herself.
She’d felt okay about it that night, and the day after, but as time passed the reality of everything that had happened had settled in. The surety that everything was going to be fine had disappeared, and the cold reality of near-death had settled in. The last few days had been rough.
Shadows were scary now, and every little sound when she was alone made Quin sweat. Her apartment was ready for her, but she didn’t want to go back. How could she when there were so many shadows, and that place by the front door where a man had been impaled by a door? How did you get over being attacked by an invisible assailant?
The police said she needed therapy, and time to heal before she came back to work. Quin had to admit that she agreed. Nothing like this had ever happened to her before, and she was far too self-aware to try and deny the fact that she needed help. Nate had been excellent so far, but there was only so much he could do to help. He didn’t know what it was like. It wasn’t an option to talk to Ashton either. Not yet anyway. He was probably dealing with his own stuff. It wasn’t easy to kill a person.
Dr. Bennings was a nice looking lady. She wasn’t cold and unfeeling like the doctors sometimes were in TV shows. Quin didn’t think the woman looked judgmental either. They’d chatted, gotten to know each other, and the redhead found herself more relaxed than she’d been in days.
“Now. Why don’t you start by telling me what happened.” The doctor asked, and Quin sighed.
”It all started with this murder case I was working on with my partner....”

"Tell me about your partner." Doctor Bennings requested.
She was the kind of woman who you expected to whip off her glasses, undo her braid, and let her hair fall over her shoulders in a cascade of black silk.
Ashton clasped his hands on his chest and stared at the ceiling from his back on the couch. What did he have to say about Archer...?
"She's a good officer," He said, after a fashion. "A good cop."
Brave. Smart. Sometimes, a bit cocky maybe? But she'd only wanted to show off... and she took orders without questioning his sanity. That earned her bonus points. Sometimes, people did that. Sometimes, they did that a lot.
He shared the first two of those traits with the woman, and half of the second-to-last one.
"And seeing her hurt. How did that make you feel...?"
How did that make you feel? That was a stupid question. "Bad." Like he hadn't gotten there in time. But he'd done his best, and she was alright, so things were good.
"Bad enough to kill the man who did that to her." Bennings noted.
Ashton eyed her. He'd already told her about the case. Seemed like she might have had inside knowledge, too.
"He could have been incapacitated, you know. Through other means. He didn't have to die."

”If he hadn’t needed to die, Ashton wouldn’t have killed him.” Quin said with complete confidence.
“You seem much more sure about that than your own actions.”
It made Quin pause. She’d explained the sequence of events leading up to Ashton kicking in the door. To Ashton killing Maurice the Elephant Man. To Ashton giving her CPR and saving her life.
”I am.” she admitted. ”Ashton is that guy. That cop. He does something, that’s because it’s the right thing. He tells you to do something, and you don’t question him because he’s got his reasons.”
Dr. Bennings nodded her head and jotted down some notes. That’s what shrinks did.
“How does it make you feel to know that if he hadn’t made it, you’d be dead?”
”It made me sick for a while. I felt like I’d missed something. That there were a hundred little things that I could have done to stop this whole thing from happening in the first place. That I should have just stopped the second I realized the door was unlocked. It took me a while to come to terms with the fact that these things happen to people every day. Hell. That’s why I have a job.”
“Because when you don’t make it in time, people die?”

"Yeah," Ashton replied. "Archer needed me. And I couldn't see or hear the guy. I didn't know if my power would directly work on him. And even if I had been able to grab him, I'm not very good with taking people with me when I go. I did it with Archer once... and felt lightheaded afterwards. She's light. She's a girl. That guy was different."
Bennings chewed on the end of her pen as she made some notes. Ashton noted this, even if he was trying not to.
"You were worried."
"Yeah."
"And you did something risky."
"Well, that's what you do when someone's life is on the line." Ashton folded his hands behind his head and focused intently on the ceiling. "You do everything you can in order to help."

Ashton grimaced at her words. 'Only natural.' Right. "I used to have this partner..." He confessed. "She died. I messed up." He fell silent for a second.
The therapist let the silence sit. Ashton broke it again.
"I just couldn't let that happen again."
There. He'd said it. He'd compared Eve to Quin. And now the shrink could do what shrinks do. He beat her to the punch.
"I cared about her too much." He interjected. "Eve. The loss hit me hard... I just didn't want a repeat. Archer's a good cop. And."
"You care about her?"
... What? Ashton blinked. No. That wasn't it. He didn't care about her. Not like that. Did he? For some reason, that knocked him off-balance, ruined his game.
"Well, yeah. She's my partner. And..." Not that way, dammit. He didn't care about her that way. She had a boyfriend. Covering, he continued. "Well, what about you? You have someone you care about, right?"
"Lots."
"You seeing anyone?" He defended.
"Sorry?"
"Want to get coffee after this?"
"That's hardly appropriate..."
"I'm not hearing a no..."
"Well..."
Ashton smiled and arched his eyebrows at her expectantly.
Screwing around, he could handle. It was easy. Dealing with the possibility he 'cared about' anyone as anything other than a partner, even if that is completely not what shrinky had meant... was hard. Which meant he was gonna avoid it. By...
"I guess we could do that."
"It's your time. Not mine."
"Indeed it is."
Dates. He would avoid it by dates.
"Speaking of." Bennings glanced at the clock. "It looks like your time is up."

"Hooray for you?"
Quin nodded her head. "Yeah. Hooray for me."
It was hard to put into words. She was glad Ashton had saved her...of course she was. The last thing she wanted was to be laying on a slab right now or in a silk lined box. It was just...
"Disillusionment, I guess, is the word I'm looking for here."
The redhead paused, still trying to get her words to come out in an order where she wouldn't sound like a total crazy.
"Somehow, being a cop has made me feel a little invincible, I guess." It was an admission that was hard to give. Dr. Bennings nodded her head.
"That's not unreasonable. Police have a lot of power. They uphold the law."
"But we can't control everything, and I learned that the hard way." Another pause.
"I'll sort it all out. It's just hard to realize that you're nothing more than normal."
