The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Agnes sighed. Not just a little sigh, but a forlorn sigh. This was her first time out in the mansion gardens after her…change…and she was really just not sure why she did this. She did love working in the garden but enough to possibly draw more attention to herself? Agnes hated attention, especially because the majority of the time she simply wanted to vanish into a crowd. She knew though that now that was never going to happen.
But…she couldn’t stay cooped up in her room forever. Maybe that was why she decided to return to working in the gardens. She wanted to go out but still have some sort of escape for herself. Her fellow students rarely went into the gardens, especially when she was working, because she tended to pull most of the insects to her. No student wanted to run into that. Therefore she should not have fear of them running into the shy girl with a pair of fly wings sprouting out from her back. Right?
She sighed as she shooed her thoughts away. She was tired of being stressed out because of it. This was her mutation, it was who she was, and she needed to accept that. There was nothing wrong with the way she looked. Jasmine still loved her, Gina still loved her (especially because she gains a flying sister) and Sveta still loved her. Those were the only people that truly mattered to her in life.
She breathed a sigh of relief. She was fine.
Adjusting her clothing, she was dressed in a long sweater, jeans, and a purple t-shirt underneath, and her big, red, floppy gardening hat. Agnes sighed as she twitched her back. The wings were itchy underneath the sweater. A glance to the left…then to the right…upon seeing no one she stripped off the sweater. The material of her sweater to scratch up against her wings and simply made them itchy. She needed the relief of exposing them to air.
Slipping her sweater off, Agnes breathed in satisfaction as she felt the cool air of the garden brush against the beautiful, iridescent wings that lay flat against her back. She twitched them briefly, felt them flutter, and returned them to their prior stationary position.
“So much better,” she said with grin. It would take getting used to, but she knew she could do it.
So, feeling slightly better, Agnes made her way deeper into the garden, sighed as she caught the smell of flowers in the air. She loved this place far too much.
Kneeling down she plucked up her bucket that was filled with her gardening tools, such as her trowel, sheers, gardening gloves, and various other paraphernalia and made her way to the nearest bush. She sighed as she set down her bucket and tilted her head. The leaves and branches were so bushy. She shook her head. Obviously her replacement during the time she was out was not doing that well of a job.
Agnes grumbled at the thought.
“No one’s been taking care of you, have they?” she asked as she fished her sheers out of the bucket and adjusted her hat. “Well…let’s take care of that.” she said with a resolute nod and began to cut the stray branches.

Rebecca's room was in order, if not a bit plain, and her experience with Gina was a good beginning to her time at the Mansion. She had handled a grey girl, giving her the confidence that she would be more ready for what the school threw at her. Rebecca was getting less nervous about this fresh start with each passing hour, but there were some things about home worth missing, such as her parents and her beautiful country.
New York was a breathtaking new place, and such a magnificently active city, but besides a park, it lived up to its name as the "concrete jungle." There was a paltry amount of green in the city. Gina mentioned a garden on the mansion grounds. It would be a good excuse to look around at the grounds, which Rebecca was interested in seeing. A garden might not be a sprawling countryside, but it would be a source of green she could visit constantly. She tossed on a plain blouse and one of her green skirts and ventured outside.
After moderate wandering and admiring the campus, (would you call it a campus? It was a school...) she found the garden, and was not disappointed. She should have expected in a school this large that the perks would be equally impressive.
She kept drifting around, taking time to examine the prettiest flowers and the most interesting vines and leaves. She would have completely disregarded the only other person around had it not been for the sound of metal against metal coming from the sheers. She turned to look toward the sound and saw a girl trimming branches.
With wings.
Rebecca gasped, but it was a quiet gasp, unlike what she treated Gina to. She looked at the wings; they were not bird wings or bat wings like Gina's, but something... maybe like an insect? They were translucent. They were not "pretty," but somehow they were not unsettling or ugly. With the light passing through them, they were eerily stunning, almost like a fairy.
The wings were captivating enough that Rebecca failed to notice she was staring. Quietly, she thought aloud to herself, "They're sort ay shiny..."
Agnes sighed contentedly as she soon found herself wrapped up in her work. The clipping of the bushes was a great way to relieve tension as well as do something good for the bushes themselves. Though it may have seemed like it was purely for vain reasons that she was clipping them, the truth of the matter was that it did help the plants to grow so that they would not get too tangled with one another, struggling to reach out to the sunlight. At the same time, it only managed to help the plants look and feel better.
Clip! Clip! Clip!
She smiled as she felt the warm sun on her skin and felt her wings flutter briefly at the warming sensation that coursed through her pale body. It took some getting used to but thankfully, with Gina’s help, Agnes felt more comfortable with the newest addition to her body. She still did not know what brought it on, but whatever it was, there was nothing for her to blame. She simply had to chalk it up to chance.
A small adjust made to her hat and Agnes was about to get back to work when something struck her as odd. The back of her neck began to tingle. It was like the tiny hairs were rising to warn her that the presence of another had been felt.
Confused, Agnes slowly looked left…saw nothing…
Looked right…saw nothing…
Turned to look behind her…
A stunned redhead staring directly at her and muttering to herself…gotcha…
>> "They're sort ay shiny..."
Agnes jumped a little at the quiet voice, causing her wings to flutter nervously. The light that shone through sent a cascade of colors gleaming around them but Agnes managed to calm down enough to fold her wings against her back. She still needed to get used to having them react to her body. It was like suddenly growing another limb that had its own reactions to certain stimuli. She needed to get those wings in sync with the rest of her body…eventually…
She sighed as she held her gloved hand to her chest and calmly held the hedge clippers against her hip as she tilted her gaze to the newcomer.
“Um…Hi…” she said with a small blush. She hated when people stared. But it was not like she was going to hurl her clippers across the gap and impale the girl…unless she was staring with malicious intent. She cleared her throat. “Umm…a-are you…okay?” She had to be staring for a reason…right?

>> “Um…Hi… Umm…a-are you…okay?”
The attention of the girl caught Rebecca by surprise, knocking her out of her hypnotic trance and into an awkward inability to talk, as the gardener uncomfortably questioned her. She had just been plainly busted being incredibly rude. She could feel the blood rushing to her cheeks, a sensation she prayed would not be occurring as often as it had in the past two days.
She had to be honest and apologize. She was somewhat more practiced after her rambling apology that came with her first meeting with Gina. She took a deep breath and consciously slowed her normally frantic embarrassed pace. "Ah'm, um, Ah'm pure sorry. Ah'm new herr. Ah've ne'er seen wings lack 'at 'afor. Weel, nae on a person." She cringed at how awkward and rude that last addition felt. "They were pretty in th' light."
She was very conscious of keeping eye contact with the girl, whose eyes were a striking blue. She was not sure if the young gardener lived at the Mansion or just worked there, but if Rebecca wanted to visit the gardens often, it would be terrible if the one who maintained it hated her already. Quietly, she finished, "Sorry Ah stared. It wasnae proper." She waited for the verdict of the winged girl.
>> "Ah'm, um, Ah'm pure sorry. Ah'm new herr. Ah've ne'er seen wings lack 'at 'afor. Weel, nae on a person…They were pretty in th' light."
Agnes tilted her head. The rush of words that came at her were apologetic and so sympathetic that Agnes could not help the small smile that appeared on her lips. The rambling of the girl was cute but she was able to get the gist of it. Her accent was strong but it only added to the adorable quality of the apology she was attempting to give. Agnes was quickly finding it more and more difficult to stay mad at the situation.
Her wings fluttered again and she calmed herself fully. She could not hold it against the girl, especially if it was something that she was simply unused to. Then again this was a mutant school…
>> "Sorry Ah stared. It was nae proper."
She looked the new comer up and down, after all Agnes did not recognize her and she had been living at the school for over a year now, and she just nodded with an appreciative smile. She was never the kind to really hold a grudge unless an extremely cruel crime was done against her person. The girl only stared and Agnes could hardly blame her for that.
She waved her hand dismissively as she tossed her gardening sheers into her bucket and pulled off her gloves. A small smile played on her lips as she came forward and held out her hand to shake the other girl’s.
“It’s no problem,” she said gently. “They can be a little startling when you don’t expect them,” Agnes explained as her wings flexed briefly before she curled gently against the length of her back. “My name is Agnes, by the way. It’s nice to meet you.”

>> “It’s no problem. They can be a little startling when you don’t expect them. My name is Agnes, by the way. It’s nice to meet you.”
Rebecca heaved a deep sigh of relief. The girl was not as offended as Rebecca expected her to be. She shook the girl's hand, noticing that she was even more thin than Rebecca and that there was a scent coming from her, but she assumed it had to do with her mutation. She ignored it, not wanting to offend Agnes more than she already did. "It's braw tae meet ya, Agnes."
She searched for something to ask that did not have to do with the wings on Agnes's back. She looked at the bucket where the sheers were dropped. "Are ye a student ur th' gardener? Th' plants here are pretty."
Looking closely at the sheers in the bucket, as though her eyes were adjusting, a field began fading into her sight. She was still developing her ability to see magnetic fields. So far, she could only do this by focusing, but now it happened innately, making her wonder if it would start to become something that just happened. "Woah," she muttered softly.
Agnes smirked and nodded as the girl shook her hand. She had a feeling that she really was sorry for staring so Agnes did not hold it against her. She no longer wanted to be the type to hold grudges anymore, especially over something as small as just staring at her because she had wings. The first time she met Gina, her sister, she wanted to do the exact same thing. But not she was a hell of a lot less likely to staring gapping at some mutant with an obvious mutation.
It would just take time and understanding and this girl would more than likely be the same way. If she were coming to the mansion they it would be something that she got over fairly quickly.
>> "Are ye a student ur th' gardener? Th' plants here are pretty."
“Thank you,” Agnes said with a beaming smile. She liked to know that student’s appreciated the beauty of the flowers that she was helping to take care of. But she shook her head at the girl’s first question. “I’m both, actually. I’ve been a student for over a year now and I was appointed a gardener about a few months back. Some of the new flowers are mine but the majority I’m just upcoming from the previous gardener.”
As she explained all this, Agnes had to think back on how funny it was that she actually started off as just another runaway mutant showing up on this school’s doorstep and now was working for her diploma, as well as had a job working for this school that took her in. It actually made her feel just a little accomplished.
But as she shook these thoughts away, she looked up to see that the girl was staring at something off in the distance and a surprised look appeared on her face. Agnes tilted her gaze to her and glanced in the direction she was staring at, seeing nothing really in particular. It was just the bushes, the side of the mansion in the distance and several other things, none of which actually looked out the ordinary…
>> "Woah,"
“A-Are you okay?” Agnes quietly asked, unsure if she needed to call for help or if this new girl was even alright. “Is something wrong?”

>> “A-Are you okay? Is something wrong?”
In a soft, dazed voice, as if attempting not to scare away her newfound insight, she replied, "Whit? Oh, Ah'm alright. Ah jist... mah mutation involves metal an' Ah jist started noticin' a magnetic field without tryin." She focused on the area around the sheers.
The field did not have a defined color, but she could still see it. She constricted it around the object and dragged it upward. The sheers followed, moving out of the bucket. She pulled it close until it was in front of her and she held the object in her hands, brushing a finger across the metal. She chuckled softly. "That's still weird tae me."
>> “I’m both, actually. I’ve been a student for over a year now and I was appointed a gardener about a few months back."
A student and the gardener; for some reason, the thought had not crossed Rebecca's mind that Agnes might be both. If the school was willing to hire students for certain tasks, maybe Rebecca could find a part-time job within the friendly confines of the Mansion.
She turned to a white and purple flower, held it lightly in her hand, and inhaled the sweet scent. "Want help? Ur if Ah would be a bother, mebbe some company?" She helped take care of flowers at home, but it was a small flower bed, much different than the garden here.
>> "Whit? Oh, Ah'm alright. Ah jist... mah mutation involves metal an' Ah jist started noticin' a magnetic field without tryin…That's still weird tae me."
Agnes tilted her head curiously. She really did not know what the girl was talking about. Magnetic fields? So far Agnes had never run into a mutant like this girl before. She wondered how the world looked to her if it made her want to suddenly pause like that. Seeing fields like that must have been a trip. But before Agnes could even think of asking her about that, she jumped when she looked back to see that her sheers floating towards the young woman.
Mouth opened in surprise, she slipped to the side in order to keep from being impaled by the gardening tool.
She smirked a little, then, as the young lady plucked the sheers out of the air and held them between her delicate looking hands. She had to admit that that ability was pretty damn cool and seemed a heck of a lot more helpful than her own. But as her awe began to wear off, she noticed that the young lady was speaking once again.
She shook her awe away and turned her attention back to her…
>> "Want help? Ur if Ah would be a bother, mebbe some company?"
Again that smirked appeared as she tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear. Agnes was never opposed to making friends so she nodded gratefully.
“I would love some company,” she said as she nodded to the watering can that was next to her bucket. “You can help me water some of the plants if you like. I’m know they’re extra thirsty today,” she smiled as he wings fluttered happily.

>> “I would love some company. You can help me water some of the plants if you like. I’m know they’re extra thirsty today."
Rebecca smiled widely, handing the sheers over to Agnes. She watched as her resting wings fluttered back to life, her eyes still widened at the act. "Ah'm noae sure if Ah would ever get used tae havin' wings like ye ur Gina." It was starting to seem like she might be the odd one out going wingless at Xavier's.
The Scot caught sight of the watering pail, or rather, she could see the field somehow through the side of her head, or rather she sensed it. Focusing once more, she lifted the metal pail as it hovered gently into her possession.
Rebecca gave a light showering to the flowers nearby. "Sae ur there many jobs fur students aroond here? Ah wouldnae min' a wee paycheck." She had no preference where she might work as long as she could get some money and feel more independent.
>> "Ah'm noae sure if Ah would ever get used tae havin' wings like ye ur Gina."
Agnes just had to smile. She knew how the girl felt. When she and Gina began to get close she too began to wonder if it was just weird that she did not have a physical mutation like wings. So many of the mutants who attended this school did so because they needed a place to runaway to in order to be accepted. Many of the reasons for this were because of physical mutations that they had no control over. Gina was like that, a young woman who had the physical characteristics of a gargoyle, Xavier’s was perfect for her.
Now, though, Agnes herself seemed to be part of that league of the physical mutated. She had wings, bug wings. Though at times they could be pretty, they were indeed a trial to live with. Eventually she could get used to it, though.
But that she was interesting, she had met Gina already? Agnes was not surprised. Gina was around more often than the mansion greeters usually were…
Silently Agnes continued to clip the stray branches and leaves as her newfound friend watered the plants. She had to marvel at how much easier the job was with a helper. Though Agnes still did prefer to do this job on her own for today it was rather fun to do this with another person.
>> "Sae ur there many jobs fur students aroond here? Ah wouldnae min' a wee paycheck."
Agnes had to nod. Pretty much that was the exact same reason why she took the job here at the mansion to begin with. She was tired of ghost writing for some of the other students and wanted something that was just slightly more legit and less academically illegal.
“You can go to the guidance counselor, Gemma Taylor,” she said with a nod. “She helped me to get the job here at the mansion. I’m sure she could find something for you to do as well, so long as you’re a student here too.” She beamed helpfully. She really was liking this girl and hoped that she would stick around at the mansion. Who knows, maybe they could actually become friends…

Rebecca smiled at the condition. "That's stoatin, since Ah am a student. Ah guess 'at means we'll be classmates!" She was optimistic that Gina would be a great friend, but she was a few years younger than Rebecca, so she was not sure if they would be in classes together. Agnes seemed closer to her age, which made Rebecca hopeful. If she was going to be in new classes, it would be nice to have someone she already knew there.
The garden was tranquil for Rebecca, with the soft quiet only nature seemed to create. She switched from plant to plant, being sure not to over-water, every now and then taking a short break to enjoy the sweet scents.
The field was still present in her sight without Rebecca forcing it. If this was permanent, would that be distracting or would she get used to the constant presence? Time would tell, she thought, taking advantage of it. She focused her influence around the pail and slowly let go with her hands, leaving it hovering in front of her. She kept her hands close by, concerned about a lapse in her focus dropping the pail on delicate plants. She maneuvered the field to tip the pail carefully, and sprinkles of water successfully poured out. Rebecca could not help but grin victoriously.
Returning to the topic of school while continuing to magnetically feed the flowers, Rebecca commented, "Are there many boys at th' school? That's gonna be weird efter bein' in an all-girls school." It probably seemed almost silly that she was more concerned about male classmates than being in a school of mutants. She was starting to gain her bearings with other mutants, but if a boy even started talking to her...
She looked at the pail before her and realized she had tipped it too much and water dumped out on a viney plant. She righted it and grabbed the handle with her hand. "Ack! Sorra, mind slipped."
>> "That's stoatin, since Ah am a student. Ah guess 'at means we'll be classmates!"
“Yeah, I guess that means it does!” she beamed happily. It was always nice to meet a new potential friend and girl here seemed particular happy to make her acquaintance. That was good because Agnes did enjoy hanging out with this girl. She hoped that they would at least get a class or two together, or if not they could even hang out outside of classes. It was not that uncommon.
In silence they continued to work. Agnes shooed away bugs that were getting too close to the plants and sheered the bushy edges of the planets so that they had a less tangled and more uniformed look. Though she went into this job knowing only the basics, Agnes was a quick learner and in no time began to grow an affinity for this job. She enjoyed it, it got her outdoors, and her powers were really helpful when working with the plants to keep them healthy and beautiful. She actually found a use for herself and her at first basic gardening knowledge of plants.
Clip…Clip…Clip…
She silently hummed to herself as she clipped away branches, only vaguely aware of the girl’s presence nearby. She seemed to be having fun just pouring water on the plants and giving them a nice long drink.
Agnes then smirked, though, as she turned and watched as the girl manipulated a metal watering pail and gently poured some for the plants. She definitely had a knack for her abilities that impressed Agnes greatly.
>> “Are there many boys at th' school? That's gonna be weird efter bein' in an all-girls school."
“They’re everywhere,” she said with a small smile. She began to wonder if the girl was a little boy crazy…then she began to drench the plant in water. “Ugh!” she started to say.
>> "Ack! Sorra, mind slipped."
A meek smile played on Agnes lips as she watched the girl regain her composure and keep the watering can from fully spilling onto the plants that she had been watering. It was probably the thought of the boys that managed to knock her off balance. If she really had come from an all-girl school then this was definitely going to be a culture shock. She hoped that she was ready for it.
“It’s okay,” she smirked. “They’ll be okay.” she was referring to the almost drowning plants. “And yes, there are a hefty number of boys here so be prepared to get hit on. But thankfully they cannot come to the girl’s dorms after dark so you should be fine.”

>> “And yes, there are a hefty number of boys here so be prepared to get hit on. But thankfully they cannot come to the girl’s dorms after dark so you should be fine.”
Hit on? Was that an idiom or would the boys of Xavier's be hitting her? She assumed that in the context of the conversation it probably meant they would flirt with her, but if not, she'd just be sure to toss a door at them. Hell, maybe she'd do that if they tried flirting, too. "They can come tae th' girl's dorms?" That was quite the change from how she had lived the first eighteen years of her life. "If mah faither knew 'at, he'd probably faint!"
She returned to watering plants, this time with a hand firmly holding the pail. Agnes assured her the plants she flooded would be fine, but she did not want to look silly in front of her again. "Ah'm nae sure hoo ready Ah am tae be going tae class wi' boys. Ah've ne'er bin flirted wi' 'afore. Ah probably wooldnae know whit tae dae." She said it jokingly, but it was a very honest statement. Rebecca was barely sure she would realize if she was being flirted with.
>> "They can come tae th' girl's dorms? If mah faither knew 'at, he'd probably faint!"
Agnes giggled at the shocked look on the girl’s face. It really seemed as if she was fairly innocent about such things. It was cute, to say the least. She knew that nothing illicit ever really happened around here, unless her own time with Rhythm counted (and she no longer counted that), so she was sure that this new girl would be relatively safe.
But she was right, if she came from an all-girl school into and into this place then yeah, her father probably would faint. She just chuckled as she continued to clip away at the hedges.
>> "Ah'm nae sure hoo ready Ah am tae be going tae class wi' boys. Ah've ne'er bin flirted wi' 'afore. Ah probably wooldnae know whit tae dae."
Agnes turned and glanced at the girl.
Seriously? For whatever reason she could not grasp why this girl had never been flirted with before. Sure if she went to an all-girl school then that definitely cuts down the chances of such an occurrence. But still, did her father just shun away ALL boys whenever she was out of school? It seemed a little odd.
But who was she the judge?
She smiled encouragingly at the girl nodded to her.
“You’ll be okay. Not like the boys here will throw you over their shoulder and drag their knuckles all the way to the nearest cave,” she said with a laugh. But once she was done, she sighed. “And hey, if it really bothers you, you can hang with me and my sister in and out of class. She and I will definitely keep you safe.”
